Warren Spector Confirms Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two

After some pretty substantial rumours, Warren Spector has confirmed that Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two is in development for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii.

The first Epic Mickey was a conceptually interesting, but ultimately flawed Wii-exclusive. But now the designer of the original Deus Ex is bringing the sequel to the big boys.

In doing so, Spector’s taken an interesting angle. Speaking to Associated Press, he revealed that the game will actually be a musical, featuring full voice acting for all of the cast of characters.

"I'm such a geek about musicals," he said. "I love the co-op and next-gen stuff, but for me, when a character breaks into song, which they do on a regular basis in this game, it's magic."

The game itself will see Mickey and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit explore the Cartoon Wasteland, a place forforgotten Disney characters and theme park attractions. It will feature drop-in, drop-out co-op, with one player controlling Mickey and his paintbrush, and the other playing as Oswald.

"You can sit down at any time with a friend who is playing as Mickey, and you can take control of Oswald," said Spector. "If you're playing as a single player, Oswald will be there every second of the game. He's not just a multiplayer character. He's a helper, whether you're playing alone or with a friend or family member."

Spector also said that his team is working hard on the game’s camera, one of the most criticised aspects on the original Epic Mickey. "We've had a team working on the camera from literally the day we finished the first game,” he said. “They'll be working on it until the day we ship the second game.”

"(There have been) over 1000 specific changes made to the camera. Our goal is that you will not have to touch the manual camera controls even once to play through the main story path of this game."

No further details were given. Still though, exciting!

I always wanted to buy the first one, just didn't have a Wii. Since it's now coming to PS3 I hope they do something similar like Mass Effect did and explain the story of the first one in the second one.

Back in my day...

Warren Spector made System Shock and Deus Ex!

Seriously though, this is still cool news. I never played the first Epic Mickey but I'm sure this game will be better than the first and bring some good old-fashioned fun to the PS3.
