Assassin's Creed III Cover Art Confirms American Revolution Setting

Ubisoft has finally put a stop to the speculation that's been surrounding Assassin's Creed III's lead character and setting, by publishing the game's cover art on the official Assassin's Creed Facebook page.

It seems that everything we've seen so far was 100% bona-fide and genuine, as the packshot clearly shows a Native American assassin packing a pistol, a quiver of arrows and a bow, brandishing his assassin-crested tomahawk in the middle of a busy battle.

It's an immensely tantalising glimpse of what's to come in Assassin's Creed III, hinting at muddy battlefields filled with redcoat soldiers, bayonet rifles and all manner of chaos. Will we be waving goodbye to hidden blades and steathy executions? If the frenetic-looking cover shot is any indication, then the answer may well be yes. We await more details with bated breath... Roll on March 5th.

Assassin's Creed III will be striking on October 30th, 2012.

  • that looks awesome!
  • It looks great ! Looking forward to monday for more details ! :)
  • I see dead red coats in my future.
  • The leaked picture would had been better just to keep the traditional main Assassin posing alone in the middle.
  • Finally, feels like I waited a lifetime for AC III. Loving the artwork. Hope they release some limited edition art prints like this.
  • @4 I agree, it would have been cool to have it look similar to the previous numbered titles. though this does look cool too.
  • I just could never get into the assassin creed games. I loved the settings but the gameplay and story really didn't do it for me. However this has intrigued me. At any rate its some of the coolest cover art I've ever seen.
  • Wow. Now this I am excited about.
  • Day 1 like all AC games for me :)
  • i see the AC III border thing around this website... nice ;)
  • First day buy for me. And this cover art is the best I have seen so far in an AC game.
  • Ubisoft stealing ideas from Iron Maiden?? Ed the Trooper ;) Cover looks awesome, bring on Red Dead Revelations! Why did they leave the old ages and are moving on to the more gunning ages? Can't wait to see how this turns out. Loved the other parts
  • HELL YEAH
  • Love this cover!! :D
  • QUIVER ON HIHS BACK WOOT WOOT!
  • Ive never wanted to make sweet monkey love to a cover.....Until now.
  • Gonna be interesting to see how this turns out. At any rate, I foresee more "how do they not notice the 1 and only person wearing an assassins robe that sticks out like a (insert term of choice here)" jokes in my future. Excited to see how it all turns out. Maybe instead of rebuilding a Villa or City, we will get to build on a reservation. (insert Casino joke)
  • Annnnd this series has now jumped the shark officially. I mean it really stopped being good after 2, after they made it a yearly release. Just call it Assassin's Creed '12 and '13 from now on.
  • haven't played an assassins creed game since AC2, but this has my interest at the moment...
  • This is starting to sound great! I like the way they're moving away from Europe, was getting a bit bored with the whole Italian scene... (I've never played Revelations btw!) Hey #18, you're an asshole!
  • Day one buy (limited edition if their is one)
  • I hope the stealth aspect is still important because even with the option of using the gun in the revelations, I still preferred close kills. After finishing revelations I assumed it would be set in America (like many others) because of the final video, however I can't help but being a little nervous that it won't have the same feel as the others and becoming too advanced (weaponry etc.). But whatever happens I'm sure it will be a great game, and I'll have to make sure I get it before the world ends so it can be saved :P
  • Guess this won't be taking place in Egypt. Shit I was really looking forward to climbing on the pyramids, but this does look awesome I can't wait.
  • I hope theres no online
  • im not sure about moving it away from europe but i suppose there has to b an american assassin for th link with desmond. also its cool th way its a native american assassin and not th original european-american settlers
  • Revolution!
  • That's a sweet looking cover.
  • This game looks amazingly interesting and I hope it lives up to my expectations. Enjoyed the other Assassin's Creed games
  • Tomahawk to the face? Me likey.
  • Not a lot of towers to climb and observe from in 18th century America, but alright. I hated the first Assassin's Creed, so much so that I didn't even bother with the subsequent titles... that said, setting a game in the American Revolution is a good way to get me to reconsider. I might actually end up checking this one out.
  • Oh my god. This makes me interested in this franchise again! :D
  • I must be the only person that doesn't actually like the new cover art. No way near as good as the previous games. That being said, I'm highly anticipating this game irrespectively.
  • The logo, cover and whole new story doesn't really look like it's actually gonna end the trilogy, but it has to, since they have always said it was gonna be 3 parts and it's 2012 of course... I kinda lost interest in AC after being an annual release, but I'll pick this up... Unless the other games (The Last of Us, GTA V(?)) are being released in the same week :P
  • Finally a sequel to assassins creed 2 and its not another $60 add on
  • It's funny cause the American founding fathers and Capitalism itself are Abstergo agents. So possibly very anti-American.
  • This is stil Desmond, right? How did native american ancestry make an appearance? This is still about genetic memory isn't it? Think of all the small things they can include. Freemasons formed by assassins? The beginning of democracy. Trees for climbing, disguise involving animal pelts? I imagine a more sandbox style game, heavy on woodland stealth. Did you notice the AC symbol is the open area in the middle of the tomahawk blade?
  • Who is this assassin. Its not Ezio.
  • Well...I've climbed up this barn...That was fun.
  • @33 The game really doesn't have to end the trilogy. Sure they always intended to make the series a trilogy, but it did better then they probably imagined. Remember Final Fantasy was only supposed to be 1. But this series is honestly a series that may never end. And maybe, it is a trilogy, for desmond. If he were to die, there are many other people that could be chosen. I never want this series to end, i want to see many different time periods. And to everyone who keeps complaining about Brotherhood and Revelations, just stop. They were great games and stand apart on there own.
  • @36, perhaps this assassin was chosen for a reason, desmond probably has learned the leap of faith from the bleeding effect by now, and this guy might not use it.
  • @36 I dont know why everyone thinks hes a Native American. Tomahawk does not equal NA. @37 Really? What gave it away? The fact that this takes place in America during the Revolutionary war? Its Altair. ;P. derp
  • @? Dude if that's Altair then I'm Jesus XD I don't think he could live that long. Anyhow, it will be interesting to see how this turns out :) I'm gonna enjoy killing the Redcoats to free America :D LONG LIVE FREEDOM!!!! Assassin style They should go to Canada for the next AC, am I right, eh?
  • CAN'T WAIT XD
  • @42 It was a joke. Dude said "its not ezio". I was bein a smart@$$. Hence the derp AND a tongue stikn out emoticon. lol. It takes place in the 1770's. So, yeah. Prolly a safe bet to say its not Ezio or Altair. derp
  • NATIVE GUY= NO BUY
  • I was mad at the fact that it's taking place in the American Revolution and not Egypt but after seeing this, I want. They have been working on Assassin's Creed 3 for 4 months so that means it's going to be twice as fun as Assassin's Creed 2. Imagine if you could go to England in this game.
  • I'm gonna miss Italy but still this is gonna be awesome.
  • I'm a literally tearing of excitement even though i dislike ac online stuff i enjoy most the games, except 1 didn't really give it a chance
  • 1 was a pretty good intro to the series 2 just made the series as awesome as it could get Brotherhood was a nice entry Revelations....play it for the story only But this....this gets me excited for the series again
  • I was personally hoping for another setting like the French or Russian revolutions, but oh well. Hopefully I'll find the story more interesting than I found Brotherhood's. I still need to play Revelations though.
  • FELLOW GAMER'S, CHANGE CAN SOMETIMES BE A BIT SCARY BUT LETS EMBRACE THIS NEW AND AWESOME EXPERIENCE. THINK OF THE POSSIBILITIES..... WHOA! JUST TRIPPED MYSELF OUT...
  • Not being bitchy towards the article but assassinations are in their very nature "stealthy" so I highly doubt that the hidden blades and stealthy take downs will be gone. It's pretty stupid to suggest that an assassination game will lose its primary weapon for assassinations
  • @46 "They have been working on Assassin's Creed 3 for 4 months so that means it's going to be twice as fun as Assassin's Creed 2" 4 months? you mean three years? its three years they have been developing AC3, Brotherhood and Revelations were just filler while this was in production in the background. I personally like the idea of the American Revolution but like comment 12 said Red Dead Revolution is my worst fear for this game, not that Red Dead Redemption was a bad game but I wouldn't like Assassins Creed to follow up to that. Im surprised they didnt just have Desmond go nuts from the animus and you play as different assassins over the whole timeline leading up to the current events of them outside the cave rather than just have one set assassin.
  • @50 - WTF? Brotherhood was amazing, i found it way better than revelations.
  • I must agree with #4 on the cover. Maybe it's the US cover, they tend to be ... "less subtle" than the European ones. Anyways, I'd like to have the previous cover style to return. Has a much more serious feel to it than "cool dude slaying guy, guns in background".
  • I just hope that the multiplayer gets a good 'update' or overhaul. Don't forget the support for it too.
  • Well, I hope the multiplayer stays away from this one. Or at least that I won't be forced to play it in order to achieve platinum.
  • Well well..American revolution then..I was hoping for the french one and the girl assassin. But well..we'll see what they will invent now. I was thinking what was there during the American rev? I mean structures to climb on? There was fields and nothing else if I remember right. Correct me guys.
  • Benjamin Franklin is going to hook me up with some cool gadgets
  • i would prefer to be made to wait another year for this, might make me actually want it
  • This is pretty unique, so thats a good thing. I lost interest in this series after AC2, Brotherhood was pretty good, Revelations just sucked. Now that we have a new Assassin and setting again, its like the excitement for AC2 all over again, cant wait for it. I still dont think this will be the only game featuring this assassin, since Ezio had 3 games of his own, I doubt hes gonna have only one.
  • @ 58 there is plenty of structure in colonial America especially in new York and Philadelphia. Worry not about the setting, America will not let you down.
  • Definitely getting this on the first day. I'm glad there's a new assassin, I don't think Ezio was going to be able to get much older.
  • Cover Art looks cool. but I wouldn't mine a complete overhaul of the game-play. It was fun at first, but as the series went on it just felt repetitive with the same type of strategy and fighting in each game.
  • Best cover art of the series by far…i just hope it is not as repetitive as the other ones were…
