The new issue of Edge magazine has dropped onto the doormats of subscribers today, revealing that Guerrilla Games is currently working on development of a new Killzone title, which could quite possibly be Killzone 4 for the next-generation PlayStation.

According to the mag, "the bulk of Guerrilla's staff (is soldiering) on with the next Killzone instalment," with production apparently already underway, as Guerrilla looks to continue the successful FPS franchise on Sony's console. Whether that'll be PS3 or the inevitable PlayStation 4, is currently unknown and Sony has yet to announce any details on the reported Killzone 3 follow-up.

Killzone 2 and 3's Senior Producer Steven Ter Heide will be taking up the role of "Game Director on the current Killzone project", which could be part of Sony's plans for it's next-gen console, as rumoured yesterday in an Edge report that claimed "one major Sony-owned studio has now ceased PlayStation 3 development" to turn its focus to next-gen projects. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

  • nothing like killzone...........bring it on
  • Agreed, Killzone has always been my FPS of choice. Always top notch games. The only thing I ask for in the next one is for them to bring back secondary fire, I loved having a shotgun shell on my Heglhan rifles and grenade on the ISA.
  • Agreed with you both, ^ . What happened to the knife though in KZ 3? KZ 4 will probably be out for PS4, some with MGS 5
  • Much love for the guys at Guerilla, they renew my confidence in my homeland and let me know not everything is shitty here.
  • Why is there still no killzone 1 in HD. I assumed that would have been one of the first HD remakes made
  • Fuck yah can't wait, still need to beat the last few levels on elite and kill like 400 more troops for my plat. Think I'll do that after Skyrim plat.
  • This could always be a PS Vita game, nothing above suggests that it isn't.
  • They said they ceased operation to focus on next gen productions or whatever, I'm sure my next statement is arguable but I feel like the vita is a current gen piece of tech. If it comes out before the ps4 I wouldn't really consider it next gen. I'm sure they'll make a killzone for the vita too but I bet they'll make killzone 4 first so it can either be a launch title or close behind launch of the ps4. That's my assumptions anyways iregore.
  • I am not completely ready for next-gen. What about all our trophies?
  • Awesome, just no frackin Move or 3D!!!
  • SCHWEET!
  • probably a title for the vita
  • @9 if Sony is smart ((which they are)' I'm sure they would do everything in their power to have trophies and our accounts carry over to the ps4 or whatever. unless it's a technical issue they can't get around I can't imagine them not transferring all that to the next console. I'm sure they could use the same network just maybe add a bit more stability or whatever to it. @12 like I stated before I don't think that's the case.
  • i hope its vita if its next gen. im nowhere near ready financially or mentally for ps4. and i like killzone so i hope its on ps3
  • Damn, with how gorgeous Killzone 2/3 on PS3, can you even imagine how eye melting Killzone 4 would be on the PS4?! I just man-gasm'd.
  • Maybe itll be a spin-off title for the PSVita, but i am REALLY hoping for a Part 4.
  • LOVE the Idea of a KZ4 as for PS4 not so excited about it just yet i still the PS3 have a good 2 to 3 years left especially with all those games that came out which i really need to pick them up then again i have loads of summer games that i still haven't finished !!
  • Killzone 2 and 3 are pretty cool games, but they really need to work on the story. The killzone universe has so much potential to make stories just as good as uncharted, or even better. You know what I mean if you've seen the ending of killzone 3.
  • I hope it is KZ4 as the ending to 3 was terrible and lets hope the online modes don't get screwed up this time!
  • Great news loved numbers 2&3!!
  • SPOILER! This may be possible because the ending almost seemed like a cliffhanger and a bit confusing. Not only that, but Killzone is SOOO Badass and Awesome!!!
  • Love Killzone! Finally got around to the platinum in 3 about a month or two ago. Me and my buddy love the ...and I forgot the game mode lol, but the team objectives. Love that jank.
  • I've never played any Killzone games and I'm excited! I must get around to it. Regarding next gen, the PS3 had a slow start so a lot of owners (at least ones I know) have only had a PS3 about half of the consoles lifetime. It's sales at the moment are consistent so I don't think it would make sense to replace for at least another 2 or 3 years. That would probably see Killzone 4 on next gen.
  • @everyone who thinks the ps4 shouldn't be out very soon. People saying the ps3 has 2-3 years left on it is untrue. PCs have startedndestroying consoles considering we've had the same tech in our ps3s since they first came out. The model changed with the slim but the hardware inside remained largely the same. If Sony and Microsoft want to stay in the game and not get left in the dirt by pc gaming they need substantial hardware upgrades. But I don't think they're going to just release the ps3 with upgraded internals, it would make more sense for a ps4. So pcs are pushing next gen consoles because of how rapid their hardware improves. Wouldn't be surprised if there was a ps4 in mid to late 2012. That's 6 years from ps3 launch which is long enough to warrant a new console. Cnsole lifespans I'd say are anywhere from 4-5 years now because of pcs and how fast they improve.
  • Long time fan of Killzone but never got around to the PSP title. I played Killzone online for the longest time and then spent 8 months online with KZ2! If they must have an HD of Killzone they should bundle it with Liberation so you can have the full story like they did with GOW.
  • @24, I agree with you. PS2 came out in 2000 I believe, and PS3 came out in 2006, thats 6 years after, however, There were still PS2 games being made until 2010. Thats a 10 year cycle for the PS2. Sony said the PS3 has a 10 year cycle, which means there will be games made for it until 2016 for sure, so that means if a PS4 came out any time after this year, it would make perfect sense. Killzone 2 is a pretty good shooter, not my favourite but still great, so I am looking forwad to this.
  • @24, yep EVERY single one of my frie ds passed on the Ps3 and XB version of BF3, I am the only one of my group NOT on PC, I feel like I am missing something when they talk about Caspian border and 64 people...
  • @26 I agree they'll still support the ps3 with games guaranteed, especially considering a lot of people may not have the money to shell out for the ps4 when it comes out because every sony console has been a little on the expensive side at launch. Plus with the PS Vita coming out soon too (which I'll be picking up) I'm not sure I can justify getting both depending on how much time is in between them. I'd probably wait a good 6 months to pick up the ps4 and work on any remaining platinum's I haven't collected haha.
  • id rather not think about the ps4 lol, will cost me far too much money as i wont want to wait for the inevitable price drop. of course if trophies cant be transferred, i may never upgrade. besides, the ps3 will live for another decade, right?
  • nice screenshot with that can in his legXD and what is it with this next gen crap all the time? I'd think sony would need to officialy announce it before game producers would start making games for it...
  • kz3 was a letdown as it tried to change it's entire formiula to make cod fans happy. hopefully kz4 goes back to what made kz2 so great
  • @30 guerilla games is owned by Sony, they know things the public doesn't. Plus when they unveil a console they would obviously want working titles available to show off the tech and launch games. No point in unveiling it then telling fans to wait 6 months before they can see a tech demo of a future game running on their new hardware.
  • @29 it's for that reason I doubt theyll discontinue trophies or even prevent us from transferring our current trophies over. Trophies/achievements are here to stay, gamers want to feel badass and rewarded for their accomplishments. I don't think they would just scrap that system all together, and it would be unwise for them to not let us carry over our trophies to the ps4 or even the vita for that matter. Trophies are their own market tool now. There are games out there that people wouldn't even buy unless they wanted the trophies for it.
