Assassin's Creed: Revelations
Assassin's Creed Getting a "Major" New Title in 2012

As Ezio sharpens up his hidden blade for next week's launch of Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Ubisoft has today confirmed that a "full-fledged" and "major" Assassin's Creed title will be coming in 2012, with a reveal in the offing sooner than you might think.

Ubi CEO Yves Guillemot revealed the news during an investor's call earlier today, but stopped short of offering up any details. "There will be another great, full-fledged Assassin's Creed title next year," he stated. "It will be another major release and we will be communicating more about it in the coming months."

Apparently, the Assassin's Creed timeline is moving towards a big "end of the world plot of December 2012", which will need to be wrapped up before that point. To expect the game to be Assassin's Creed III and to release around this time next year doesn't seem like too much of a stretch then, but that's just our guess. We'll find out more soon.

@4: You really don't know what you're talking about. These "side games" are just as big as the numbered entries, if not bigger because of how much more in-depth they go with each game. Each one has been an improvement and just because it doesn't have a new protagonist does not mean it's a spin-off. Play before criticizing, please.

The only problem there is that, unlike the PSP and DS games, Brotherhood and Revelations are not sideprojects. Both continue the story from where the previous one left off (yeah, Brotherhood starts SECONDS after where AC2 ended).

I'm not gonna leave spoilers for what happened in Brotherhood, of course, but you're gonna be VERY lost if you skip Brotherhood. I can't say anything about revelations yet, but the teasers show that it's another direct sequel because of where Desmond is.

Wow. Nobody saw this coming. Who'd have thought? An Assassin's Creed when the end of the world is supposed to occur? Jeez, this really surprised me.

Yes, I'm being sarcastic for those that hadn't already realised. If you hadn't already realised, 10 points deducted from Gryffindor - you should have known.

Can't wait bring it on. True AC Fan since the beginning. In my opinion Assassin Creed is one of the best series this generation. My top 4 go like this Uncharted, Assassin Creed, Bioshock & Mass Effect

@5 & 6 couldn't agree more.

In my opinion the Assassins Creed series has gotten better and better with each installment. Assassins creed 1 was a good game. But poor character development made me not really care to much about Altair. But Assassins Creed introduces Ezio, and he is awesome and the fact that we get to see so much of his life is truly epic. And so far Brotherhood is in my opinion the best game in the series just due to the whole story. I really look forward to hopefully seeing some character development with Altair this time around.

I don't know about the trophy list for revelations yet (don't want to spoil anything for myself) but my only hope with yearly releases is that the online trophies arent too harsh. I ran out of time with AC:brotherhood, and i'm happy to keep playing online (i find it pretty enjoyable) but within a week everyone will move on to the next game and the online will die. :(

How about The killuminati creed (ok ok, the title wont make it that obvious what the games goal is)?
Or something similar, because they will start to focus more on desmond in upcoming titles however there will still be the animus and going back for assassins time to time i think.

As fun as AC2 and ACB were, and ACR will probably be, part of me is hoping they introduce a new character or deviate from Ezio. It will be interesting to see how they develop Desmond, especially after what happened in Brotherhood

@2 If you love the AC games, why wouldn't you want them to put out a new game every year? I can't get into the CoD games, but if I were a fan I'd be very happy to get a new game so often.

@10 being a true fan doesn't mean clamouring to get a new game in your sweaty little hands every year, being a true fan is understanding that a 2 or 3 year development time could allow them to refine the game, introduce new things to it, and develop it with a new engine that makes it look even better and play more smoothly, Greatness cannot be rushed

#17, So if someone loves a certain game series, buys every game as they come out, and they can't wait for the next installment of it, they're not a true fan? Huh. Learn something everyday I guess. >.>

Yeah, because I was criticizing, wasn't I? -_- If I TRULY will be lost with the story without playing Brotherhood and Revelations, then I'll just leave the AC series. Its not that I don't care (I rather enjoyed Altair as a character, but thought 2 was a superb game), I just don't feel like playing a series that doesn't let a little dust settle between games. Does that make sense? Maybe it doesn't. Like I said, its my opinion.

I met Yves back at MIGS... I died a little on the inside hearing him talk about his vision for the future of games.
He was one of the keynotes, and his speech was just one terrible idea after another. He brought up Assassin's Creed at one point : Was not pleased with his ideas. They essentially all boil down to, constant connection to internet, breaking immersion in a game to make players "talk with their friends to continue" aka google a guide, and then restricting content (not actually, but making it a bitch to access without inviting friends).
Still got a picture with him since he's CEO... but I really hate his ideas. I hope this AC doesn't have too much of his influence. Had a good time touring Ubisoft Montreal though.

The story in these games are really boring, for the most part it's rehashed shit that I learned in high school, or the plot of hundreds of historical fiction novels already out! Ubisoft throws in a little sci-fi and suddenly there is new "depth" to this game? If you ask me it's a little corny. The extremely repetitive gameplay really doesn't help. I regretted playing Brotherhood and I will not play Revelations, if this new title is at least something different, then I'll play it. And there are very few games that I would be able to stand every single year (without change).

An Assassin's Creed game every year is very different to a Call of Duty or a Sports title each year. Call of Duty is multiplayer driven and each year is just a rehash. They don't have the greatest story, and it doesn't develop very much. Assassin's Creed has a very in-depth story, and each new installment isn't just a rehash, because the story is always advancing. It's like a new book being released yearly, you get it because you want to continue with the amazing story.

@19: I'm sure most people would agree that a year is enough time to "let the dust settle" as long as each game is enough of an improvement (unlike COD cough, cough). So criticizing a game series because it has a one-year cycle is ridiculous. If anything, it's a good thing for the fans because they don't have to wait so long for their next fix. And it's not like they're rushing the game; they have five or six studios working on it. Plenty of people to get it done in one year.

@24, you are more than entitled to your opinion of course, but you are really doing yourself a disservice to not play Brotherhood, and Revelations looks amazing as well. You probably won't be totally lost by not playing them, but some really important story events happen, and AC:B really improves on what ACII did so well. You really out to check them out. I can't wait to play Revelations after what happened in Brotherhood, and then after this one we get ACIII next year to whet our appetites for the story arc, so that's fine by me. If they keep putting out yearly releases after the 3rd, then that might get a bit old.

I cant wait to play both, but yeah it makes the most sense to get the game out before the time set in the game for the end of the world and all. I hope that it will be all or mostly Desmond in 3.

That's not really what he's saying and he's right. Assassin's Creed needs to refine what made it so great in the first place, that it was doing something nobody else was doing and brought forward a big spark of innovation.

I remember the games designers saying they wanted to take Assassin's Creed to places no game has gone before and it's a shame really because it seems like now it's a hit with gamers Ubisoft just want to release it yearly instead.

Releasing the game yearly can only lead to problems, take a look at Call Of Duty, sure it has a lot of people rushing to buy it but is it actually "NEW". I don't want Assassin's Creed to end up like Call Of Duty.

Nah, AC will never end up like CoD, since each new game is moving forward with the story, and they're actually getting somewhere.

At AC's ending, you learn that there's something mystical behind all of it.
At AC2's ending, it's developed further, and in Desmond's own words: "WTF".
At AC:B's ending... Well, shit really hit the fan for 'em, didn't it...?
Now with AC:R... OK, I can't really say anything yet.

At any rate, the story will come to an end eventually. If not with AC3 (which should really be called AC5), then with the next one.
