Finally got my FIFA10 100% a couple of weeks ago after they fixed the UT store. It is, and will be the last sports game I'll ever own. These server closures are nonsense

Poor showing, EA, as always. People buy these games, expecting to be able to fully enjoy them. Something which EA prevents them from doing, rather soon after release. A disgrace, truly.

And now watch me get swamped by corporate proxies, trying to rebuke my point. It is not expensive to keep a few servers running. But EA is just too greedy and non-caring to please their fans/Trophy Hunters. It doesn`t matter that they`ve already puked up two or 3 new versions of the game; they are basically stealing parts of the game you bought.

Here`s a little something I`d like to see implemented; Guarantees with every copy of every game, stating that it`s online components will stay active for at least 4 years, not withholding the company going out of business. If publishers don`t want to support their paying customers that long, they should be forced to put a big sticker on the cover, stating that online play will be killed within 4 years.

So? Do you dare claim no one plays FIFA 10 and 2010 World Cup anymore? Indeed, you can`t be sure. Besides, the latter is the only one involving all the national teams, making it stand out from the newer versions. People purchased those games, and are now getting locked out. Inexcusable.

Its been 2 years since FIFA 10.....Trust me, 95% of FIFA fans will have moved on.

Theres plenty of products that get discontinued for various reasons...It doesnt just apply to games......Its called "business"

@#9, and what about the 5% that have stayed? Are they supposed to be left out in the cold?

You`re going to quite some lengths to justify this nonsense. There are still plenty of older games that still have their servers running. You can say that there`s newer versions of FIFA anyway, but does that make the previous iterations lesser games? Then why were they sold for the same price as other games, hmmmm?

EA has made more than enough money with rehashing, DLC, and UT junk on both of these games to support them longer. It shows they don`t care about their customers. That`s the point where "business" becomes something malevolent.

Yes, it makes them lesser games because, in the context of annual releases, they're old news.

The 5% that have stayed can still play the game.....The online component will be dead anyway, because everyone else will be playing 11 and 12.

The game isnt gone, it doesnt self destruct in your hands, it doesnt vapourise into thin air....If you want to play FIFA 10, then play it......Theres no point in keeping a server online anymore of the costs of it dont justify the fanbase still using it.

You need to understand the concept of business, my friend.

@#12 Does EA have your pet as hostage? I honestly can`t believe someone is willing to go this far in defending a multi-million dollar business with a reputation for not caring.

In the context of annual releases, they should sell the games for lower prices. But EA charges 65 Euros here, time and again.

And if that 5% stayed, how can the online possibly be dead? People who want to play the game will find others through boosting threads, etc.

And no, the game doesn`t self-destruct. But with the unplugging of a plug, EA instantly limits the content on the disc. Online is a big part of the FIFA games, and that is taken away in an instant. So, in a way, part of the game does vapourise.

And the costs aren`t high. Keeping one server running is almost no effort. And for paying customers, it should be kept on, regardless of the 2 years and 2 versions with a new lick of paint that have passed since release.

You need to understand the concepts of customer service and caring about consumers.

Errr fuck off ea I was going to trade FIFA 11 for 12 soon but FUCK THEM!!! I'll trade 11 in for skyrim instead the stupid greedy bastards! Never again will I buy fifa

I still play FIFA 10, coz i don't want (and can't) spend 70€ on a newer and pratically equal version of the damn game. IF they reduce the price to 40€ then I MIGHT CONSIDER doing it.

Besides, it's not only the online component that's gonna be gone. FIFA 10 had A LOT of issues with offline 2+ players matches and, after these 2 years, a lot of bugs are suddenly appearing (btw, i am super careful with all my game discs, none of them have a sratch).

Dunno if this happened to others or not, but it's strange right? It's almost as if everything's planned so that we rush into a store to buy the new one. Well, screw you EA! It's because of everybody and every corporation thinking like this that the world's as F'd up as it is.

I don't know what's worse, the people complaining a server for an older out of date game shutting down, or the very high probability of those complaining who don't even own any of those titles.

@20, for one, bugs don't "suddenly appear" as if to convince you to buy an updated title and two, please don't ever liken the shutting down of a FIFA server with the problems of the world again.

I really wouldn't mind them shutting them if their servers were top notch all the time or they were shutting them down to boost recourses for FIFA 12 but they don't. EA's servers and customer service are absolutely atrocious. Their a disgrace of a company. FIFA 12 still has huge issues online (I still can't play one match of ultimate team without being disconnected) and they can't be bothered to fix anything. That just makes it a slap in the face when they shut servers down. I've bought every FIFA since 97 (including the tournament games like world cup and the old champions league ones) but I highly doubt I'll be buying anymore because EA are a***holes.

Please excuse my French, but it needs to be said.

personally i do think it's unreasonable to shut this games servers down so soon. as commented on other posts, there are older games out there with the servers still active. if your not a trophy hunter, you might just want to play for fun when the game is cheap. so you get home and install the game and try to play online, but then you find out the servers are no longer available. wether you pay £45 or £5 for a game, you should still be able to access all the features that the disc states when you buy it brand new or second hand.

This is why matches need to be set up with the ps3/xbox hosting the games and not their servers like some games do... example, shadowrun for 360. It chooses a player to host the match and changes as needed. The trophies should then be allowed to get in those situations, like private matches. Enough of the ranked matches required trophies and stupid server shutdown. Im STILL PISSED about army of two. I bought that game and then found out I cant even play it online. F U EA.

When EA shut servers they should patch game so the online runs P2P like alot of other online games.

In fact while I am on my rant since I cant edit posts on here... I think every store that sells new games such as walmart and gamestop etc, should be required to put stickers on the front of the game cases that say "online play no longer available." Since the game I bought was BRAND NEW. But they would never do that cause it would hurt business. Instead they would rather lie to their customers and act like online still works and wait til they spend their hard earned money, then jump on live only to get denied. And they ignore ALL emails the upset customers have sent them about the matter. F that stupid company. Im not one that usually complains about stuff either. I dont mind activision either... but F U EA. You Damn thieves.

@#17, nice retort, mate.

Perhaps you haven`t realised that some people don`t want to/can`t shell out 60 bucks for the basically the same game every year. I expect to be able to play for more than 2 years when dropping that much cash on a video game.

By doing this, EA is simply stealing parts of your game. Sure, it`s "legal" thanks to the ToS no one ever reads, but imagine this; You bought Star Wars IV when it came out on video. But, 3 years later, when V lands, George Lucas comes into your home, and erases the lightsabre battles off the tape.

Sure, it`s not the exact same situation, but people wouldn`t roll when Lucasfilm would try to pull such a stunt. Yet gamers do, when EA comes knocking at their door. Because I have yet to see a single boycot or action against EA over this.

agree with everyone who says the platinum should be completely offline.

@45: if you think like that, then the gaming world is insignificant (not economicaly speaking)! we don't need gaming nor trophies to be happy, but we play because we enjoy it, because it gives us some moments of pleasure and fun! the trophies do the same: they challange us to do "more" or "better" in the games we love. because of that, some of us enjoy collecting them. if you don't, then that's your opinion.

@23: 1st, they did suddenly appear; glad it didn't happen to you, but it did to me. 2nd, i'm not saying the end of online servers is the end of the world, i'm just using EA's greed as an example; that greed has become a mentality for the whole human race, and it's that mentality that's F'ing up the world.

You'd think EA would pass it onto a part time server or something to keep it going I agree it doesn't cost anything to run at least 1-2 servers for this game then again EA servers are never dedicated anyway so they ain't saving much anyway.

Consider yourselves lucky. Fifa's been selling quite well the last couple years and they still kept the 2010 servers open this long. Madden and NHL shut down a month ago and the basketball servers shut down in like a year or something.

Considering that there are probably only like 20 people ever online at a time (maybe a little more for fifa because of soccer's popularity in lower income countries, just throwing out that there, dunno if it makes a difference), I don't think keeping some servers open would be that expensive but at the same time like 95% of people have already upgraded and like 3% that were playing fifa 10 will upgrade when the servers go offline. It doesn't make sense for EA to worry about how 3 year old games' server's are running, whether or not there are hackers etc etc. Just upgrade if you like the franchise so much.

Paying $60 year after year for the same thing is stupid imo but the fact is that people do it. I dislike EA very much but it doesn't make sense for them to keep their servers open if they only disappoint like 100 people. They know people are still gunna buy their product and if they don't, who cares? The yearly growth on their games is significantly larger than the people they lose by shutting down old games' servers.

Where does everybody get these statistics? "95% of the gamers will have upgraded to newer Fifa titles!" Bollocks. SimplySupreme was the first one to say that in reply number 5 without any back-up whatsoever.

You can discuss all you like and give your personal opinion all you like. I have my own. Just don't pretend your opinion is backed up by the majority of players without providing a reference.

"93.7% of all statistics are completely made up." See, I just spouted some nonsense as well.

I really think that once dedicated servers shut down there should be a P2P online portion for ANY game. Sure it would be slower but at least the online would survive and the game dev wouldn't have to host servers for it anymore...
