Demon's Souls Online Server Support Extended Into 2012

Atlus has announced that it's extending the online lifespan of the hard as nails Demon's Souls online server support, enabling players to continue utilising the game's innovative network features, such as leaving hints for other players, reviving fellow adventurers and replaying the death scenes of unfortunate souls. You can even enter another player's game and wreak havoc, which just isn't cricket, if you ask us.

"While it comes at significant cost to us and although it has been over two years since the game revolutionised the notion of multiplayer and online functionality in an RPG," commented Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales at Atlus, "Our commitment to the game and the fans that turned it into an incredible success remains as strong as ever.  While the reality is that one day the servers will ultimately close due to operation and maintenance costs, that day is not today, nor will it be this year."

Demon's Souls is currently available for an RRP of $19.99, making it one hell of a bargain, for one hell of a game, that will send you to hell and back again. Spiritual successor Dark Souls is also out next month.

This announcement has to do with the US version which was published by Atulus.

How much longer with the EU and JP/Asia versions be online though?

Whoopee? The online parts of this game are the worst part of it. Hurray, now I can endure more "I'm in trouble!" spam and griefers trying to enter my game if I don't remember to suicide after every boss fight. Thank you so much guys. Now try to learn the different between single player and multiplayer, and that you shouldn't shoehorn multiplayer elements into a single player game.

@7 Just play the game offline then, jees. This isn't multiplayer in the same sense that it was slapped in on the side of Dead Space 2 for example, it's completely integrated into the whole experience. But if you don't like it for whatever weird reason, then it really isn't hard to just play offline is it?

The online portion doesn't make a huge difference as this is such an amazing game even without it imo (so if the servers going down is stopping you from playing it, that is foolish), but online certainly does add in a great dimension to it. How freaking cool is it to be summoned to be the boss of world 3 for another player?! This was such a unique way of integrating an online element into a game, really fantastic idea. Glad to see they are extending it's lifespan. But the question is will this be the same for Europe? I might play through again if it's the case. Then again Dark Souls in 2 weeks. literally can't freaking wait!11!!!

Oh and sorry for thumbs downing you #5, it was meant to be thumbs up but you can't seem to undo?

@7 wipe your bloody fanny and go back to bed you big effing girls blouse. Don't like it? When it prompts you to sign into the servers when you play, choose cancel and play on your own like a sad little hillbilly. God I hope people invade the shit out of you
