Sony's Gamescom presser is just winding down in Cologne and a whole load of PlayStation Vita news was announced.
First up, new SCEE President and CEO Jim Ryan took to the stage and reaquianted us with the social and connectivity gubbins of the new handheld. FourSquare, Facebook and Twitter are all optimised for Vita.
Of particular interest to us, however, was the Trophy functionality. The Vita will have a application that lets you access all of your PS3 and Vita Trophy info. Nice.
Then came the games.
Resistance: Burning Skies was announced. It's a completely new, exclusive shooter set in the Resistance universe.
The timeline is Ellis Island in 1951 and the Chimera are attacking the East Coast for the first time. Taking control of Tom Riley, you have to fight your way to safety.
You can chuck grenades by tapping the screen and there's a new cover system too. It all looked rather nice. "A handheld FPS without restrictions," said the suits.
Then there was an on-stage match of Reality Fighters between outgoing SCEE CEO boss Andrew House and his replacement Jim Ryan.
It was all rather embarrassing to be honest, wrapped up in a mock "let's get ready to rumble" kind of style. Typical cringey press conference stuff.
The game looked fun though. As we know, it's a fighter that allows you to do battle in AR environments. The character animations looked nice and smooth. Might be entertaining.
Next was a trailer for LittleBigPlanet Vita, that didn't seem to offer much new. The suits on stage breezed passed it.
Then came a really interesting little game called Escape Plan. It features a couple of funny little monochrome fellas (called Lil and Laarg), tasked with escaping a series of rooms, in a platformer/puzzle game fashion.
It all looks really rather charming, with a cutesiness offset by some grusomely humorous deaths.
Elsewhere, Ubisoft were confirmed to be developing 6 games for the Vita, including a brand new Assassin's Creed game, which is pretty bloody exciting. No actual details as yet, however.
FIFA will also hit the handheld in early 2012.
