L.A. Noire Dev Looking to Merge With Film Studio?

While the critical reception and ensuing sales for LA Noire have been fantastic, Team Bondi's reputation in light of reports on the developer's working practices has been immensely damaged, leading the studio to apparently look towards forming a merger with another group to avoid bringing the Team Bondi name to the fore when developing its next game, according to rumours.

A report from Kotaku Australia claims that Team Bondi could be absorbed by the Dr. D Studios and Kennedy-Miller Mitchell Films group, co-founded by Mad Max filmmaker, George Miller. With Rockstar severing all ties with Team Bondi following the revelation of the company's supposed harsh work conditions, it's thought that other games publishers would be reluctant to work with the studio, which has led Brendan McNamara's team to look elsewhere.

"Brendan McNamara was seen walking through the buildings of Dr. D yesterday, where Happy Feet 2 is being made," states Kotaku Australia's source. This was much to the chagrin of certain Dr. D employees claims the source, as some also used to work for Team Bondi. "Because Dr. D is filled with former Team Bondi employees who left due to the abusive work conditions, this unexpected visit was quite... unsettling - to put it mildly."

Another verified source from within Kennedy-Miller Mitchell Films claims that George Miller was impressed by Team Bondi's efforts with LA Noire and McNamara's refusal to compromise his artistic vision, which matches a statement given by a source from Dr. D Studios: "The word is going round that Team Bondi is being folded into KMM studios, Team Bondi is pretty much doomed after the scandal and can’t find any new supporters, so by doing this they can hide their name."

So, it could be that LA Noire 2 - if Team Bondi gets around to making a sequel - might be released with the name of a different developer and publisher on the box, if these rumours prove to be true and the studio gets rebranded.

Hmmm, never heard about this apparent shake up, but I guess it was behind closed doors - I wonder if R* were aware all along though, but just wanted to get the game out there before breaking ties…..

I'd not heard of the abuse at Team Bondi at all, I got sick of in-house political news after the Infinity Ward and Rockstar stories the other year. However this McNamara sounds like a right cock, he'd still be picking faeces off his toothbrush if he'd treated me like that.

I doubt gamers would give two hoots whether Team Bondi develops a game or not, but those working in the industry will know all about Brendan McNamara and will steer clear of him regardless of what he calls his team or who publish their work. He should go work for Activision, him and Kotick sound like a match made in heaven.

Hmm if this is true then i'm quite glad i didn't buy LA Noire.

I'd rather not fund a company that will treat it's staff that way and i certainly won't be looking into any other games the company makes, re-branded or not.

Glad R* broke it's ties with them.

Quite sad if this is true as the only good Australian developer nowadays. Oh well.

@2 You mean Infinity Ward and Activision right?

@3 If you don't buy the game, then they won't make any more games due to loss of revenue - So whilst you you are not supporting the 'mean'/bad company, you are contributing to thier redundancy ;P

It's funny because Bondi had the stones to blame the PS3 and blue ray for the game not releasing complete. Apparently, as #4 says, there was supposed to be two more desks and 11 missions/cases. But the blue ray disc wouldn't hold enough. However they used it single-layered instead of double. Yet no mention of how XCRAP had I believe 6 install discs. C'mon 6 to 1 and PS3 is to blame. This lack of accountability has turned my interest off for good. I played LA Noir for about the first 5 hours and it just wasn't my thing I guess. I still have vouchers for Naked City Vice and the Counselor's Car (I think) if anybody wants one or both send me a message.

Sad thing was I was looking forward to LA Noire, only for it to be a shoddy product that would crash my PS3. It just wasn't up to the standards I expected out of a game associated with Rockstar. After having the worst Customer Support experience of my life, I'm pretty much turned off of both Team Bondi and Rockstar.

Eh, I think the working condition complaints were greatly overstated. I've had to work 12-hour days, and I didn't like it any more than they did... and I probably made a hell of a lot less to boot. But these parasites are making it out to be something straight out of the Book of Exodus... you're not building pyramids. You're sitting in a climate-controlled office, creating art assets for a fucking video game. Grow a pair of testicles or please kill yourselves.
