Final Fantasy XIII-2 Western Launch Date Narrowed Down

Previously given a tentative release window of 'early 2012', Square Enix has now managed to narrow down the western launch date for Final Fantasy XIII-2, settling on a specific month.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is heading to Japan in December 2011, and the game will subsequently be releasing in North America a mere month afterwards, in January 2012. That's a pretty quick turnaround between the game's debut in the east and its arrival in the west, which ought to come as great news to western FF fans.

Starring Noel and Serah on their search for original Final Fantasy XIII protagonist, Lightning, Final Fantasy XIII-2 hopes to rectify the shortcomings of the previous game, which still went on to sell millions. Check out our E3 2011 preview for more on the first direct Final Fantasy sequel since FF X-2 to find out how it's shaping up.

  • Where is Snow????? I won't buy this if Noel thinks Serah is his girlfriend.
  • Given the history SE has with meeting deadlines, I think the picture text says it all.
  • This is just a glorified ff x-2 with better graphics and worse battle system, don't be shocked if dress spheres make an appearance, after all the paradigm shift system is a souped up dress sphere battle system
  • i hope there will be a european release announced soon too :(
  • I really do not like what Square Enix have done to the Final Fantasy franchise. I really wish it would return to its roots of Squaresoft. It seems a lot of companies are doing this now :s
  • Final Fantasy just isnt Final Fantasy anymore :'(
  • So when does it hit Europe? Well anyway this give me more time to play Skyrim and Dark Souls. ^_^
  • I can understand a few comments people have said regarding Final Fantasy isn't the same anymore. Everyone has there own opinions and favourites and I thought Final Fantasy XIII was ok not brilliant. It just didnt have the same impact on me like Final Fantasy X did a few years ago not even any other for that matter. It would be brilliant if they bring out a few HD collections. Count me in for a Final Fantasy X and its sequel! lol
  • What happened to evolution? Times have changed and so must the games. I have enjoyed every FF game released. Accept it for what it is and maybe you will enjoy it better. XIII was a challenge and required you to think on your feet. This is the future. Give me more
  • Another 100 hours of my life gone lol!!
  • i am disappointed this game is not coming out before the holidays. was looking forward to playing this over winter break this year. guess instead of being able to fully enjoy this game in one week im going to have to spread it out over 6 months. or wait till summer which wont be good because then i will be married and the new wife wont want me playing video games 24/7. also please please please fix the money system. i dont want to have to spend 40-50 hours grinding to kill some turtles just to get all the weapons
  • I miss Squaresoft, enix's titles have left a bitter taste in my mouth for years now.
  • Great news if it's the same for Europe, I can't wait for this game to be released.
  • @9 ate you for fucking real!!!!! If you kind final fantasy 13 a challenge them I suggest you go back to school and avoid any older final fantasy games. What can possibly be challenging about running down a linear corridor for ten minutes fight a boss and continue for another 50 hours soon that exact same notion repeatedly?????? Unless you refer to the challenge of actually trying to understand how that game was labelled and RPG or the challenge of actually not falling asleep. No side quests, no hidden summons, no using multiple characters in battle, no npcs, no shops, no interesting or rewarding weapon upgrades, no character customization. I could probably carry on but i think I've made my point. Seriously Apart from pressing x repeatedly or changing a paradigm then tapping x repeatedly again what thinking did you have to do whilst on your feet? The game held your hand all the way to the final credits
  • I wish everyone would stop complaining about this game BEFORE IT'S EVEN OUT! If you dont like the game, then dont comment on this post. And to people whining about how much its changed, grow up. Not every FF game can be FF7. Games need to evolve and grow bigger. I am very excited for this title and will be picking it up day 1!
