Deep Silver and German developer Piranha Bytes have today announced Risen sequel, Risen 2: Dark Waters, which is set to take the RPG franchise to 'uncharted territories'.
Dark Waters takes place several years after the conclusion of Risen with an expanded setting, a fresh story and new characters, as well as all-new technical foundations. And although the first Risen didn't make the jump to PS3, the announcement press release says that the game is to release on consoles, as in plural, suggesting that it could come to PlayStation 3.
With titans devastating the world and humanity pushed to the brink of extinction, more monsters have started rising from the sea, bringing seafaring to a halt. As a member of the Inquisition, the game's hero find himself on a quest to prevent the chaos being caused by these monstrous creatures from the watery depths, which sees Risen 2 adopting a new pirate theme.
The journey begins when the hero learns rumours that suggest pirates who sail the southern islands know of a way to rid the world of the deep sea monsters for good. As such, he must set out to find the pirates and find a way to put an end to the monsters' reign of terror.
Risen 2: Dark Waters will retain its third-person viewpoint within a gritty universe, with a variety of island-based locations to explore and multiple paths through the game's challenges with interactive environments and a full day/night cycle that will have an impact upon the game world.
