Risen 2: Dark Waters Will Explore Uncharted Territories

Deep Silver and German developer Piranha Bytes have today announced Risen sequel, Risen 2: Dark Waters, which is set to take the RPG franchise to 'uncharted territories'.

Dark Waters takes place several years after the conclusion of Risen with an expanded setting, a fresh story and new characters, as well as all-new technical foundations. And although the first Risen didn't make the jump to PS3, the announcement press release says that the game is to release on consoles, as in plural, suggesting that it could come to PlayStation 3.

With titans devastating the world and humanity pushed to the brink of extinction, more monsters have started rising from the sea, bringing seafaring to a halt. As a member of the Inquisition, the game's hero find himself on a quest to prevent the chaos being caused by these monstrous creatures from the watery depths, which sees Risen 2 adopting a new pirate theme.

The journey begins when the hero learns rumours that suggest pirates who sail the southern islands know of a way to rid the world of the deep sea monsters for good. As such, he must set out to find the pirates and find a way to put an end to the monsters' reign of terror.

Risen 2: Dark Waters will retain its third-person viewpoint within a gritty universe, with a variety of island-based locations to explore and multiple paths through the game's challenges with interactive environments and a full day/night cycle that will have an impact upon the game world.

Check out the illustration below to get an idea of the kind of look that Risen 2: Dark Waters is aiming for when it launches. When? We don't know as a date or release window has yet to be confirmed. Will it come to PS3? Hopefully. Stay tuned to find out.

  • Hey, did they state ''German developer Piranha Bytes''? Seems like a first little triumph for Germany (So they have something to laugh about, after the Killzone 3 demos and several other games weren't released there).
  • good job both of you guys for making the first comments being extremly pointless... on topic: never heard of RISEN... anyone care to shed some light?
  • never even heard of RISEN
  • Risen is a very good pc RPG!
  • It's pretty good on the 360 as well, it's not a hold your hand RPG like most are these days, it's like the Gothic series of games on the PC or Arcania Gothic 4 which is already out on the 360 and comes out next month on the PS3.
  • it almost looks like a pirates of the caribbean game!
