EA and DICE have released some concept art and details on Star Wars: Battlefront's Battle of Jakku DLC, which will be available on 1st December 2015 for anyone who pre-orders the game, and a week later for everyone else. The free add-on will enable players to take part in a key moment in which "the New Republic confronted key Imperial holdouts on a remote desert planet".

Set 29 years prior to the events of the upcoming seventh Star Wars movie The Force Awakens, the Battle of Jakku puts you at the centre of a conflict taking place amid the aftermath of the Rebel victory in the Battle of Endor (as seen in Return of the Jedi), and will centre around the massive crashed Star Destroyer shown in the artwork. Imperial ground troops and Rebels will butt heads on this strange desert planet's surface.

"There’s a David and Goliath theme to this. The epic, huge super structures of the Star Destroyers contrast against the tiny but brave Rebel soldiers fighting the Imperial forces,” says DICE Concept Artist Anton Grandert. “We wanted to portray a battle completely surrounding you, in every direction. Debris is falling from the sky, telling the story of battles above. On the surface of the planet you can see ground troops as well as X-wings, all taking part of the fight.”

Check out the Battle of Jakku artwork above and below. Star Wars: Battlefront launches on 17th November 2015 for PS4, Xbox One and PC, before the Battle of Jakku DLC will be available on 1st December with pre-orders and will be free a week later for all other players.

  • Your advertisements are far too obtrusive. Almost every page, I have to click the X to close, the X moves, I open the advertisement site etc. Shame as this is my go to site for news and trophy tips. I will start to look elsewhere if things don't improve.
  • While I doubt they'll worry a great deal about losing a lone reader with O forum/community posts I agree the ads can be too obtrusive here. Sometimes they're so flash riddled I can't even read the site on my ps4 (which is surely counter productive). Its not the only site ps4 struggles with, even dualshockers and twitch ads cause probs now and then. P.S. can't wait to get behind a x-wing again, this game looks true next gen
  • @1 Download Adblock, It's free and takes like less then 1 min to install.
  • I've posted a couple of times (funny to see the big fat zero). Adblock's not an option as I'm surfing at work. Yes, I guess surfing on a PS4 is problematic.
  • #4 Maybe you should be working instead of viewing PS3 Trophies at work. I don't use Adblock and I have no issues with adds at all on this site... Sounds to me like you are using the "mobile" site on a smart phone.
  • Considering how little contest is coming with the core game, showing off anything DLC related months before release seems pretty distasteful.
  • Let me break go different route and actually comment on the article (which I can view no problem from work as well). This sounds fucking epic, I can almost see it=) Definitely can't wait for this to come out, so I can snag it up! Mr Fibers are you getting this as well?
  • That map looks epic! But I hope there's more pre-ordering bonuses, because a ``1 week timed exclusive`` free map sounds pretty weak as pre-order incentives go...
  • @ Vinny Planning on it!
  • It's a date then!;-)
  • I had to check my reading glasses to make sure I had the right prescription on, this did say FREE DLC right? Coming from EA and DICE, now that's a surprise. Not a fan of pre order bonuses as I want to wait and see how all this pans out since it is EA and DICE.
  • Looks epic. Definitely need this game!
  • At least it's free but, you know, the old announcing DLC months before the actual game release.
