Mass Effect 2
BioWare "Aware" They Need to Provide Introductory Experience For Mass Effect 2 on PS3

The biggest and most welcome surprise for PS3 owners at this year's Gamescom was easily the announcement that BioWare's hugely successful Mass Effect 2 title would be heading to PS3.

Talking with the BioWare doctors at Gamescom this year, Ray Muzyka, BioWare CEO, when asked about whether we could see the original on the platform, told PS3T that they are aware that they need to provide an introductory experience for PS3 owners.

“We’re really focusing on Mass Effect 2,” said Muzyka, “We are aware that we really need to provide a great introductory experience to bring that context for people that want to just jump into the Mass Effect 2 action and have some context for it, so we’re going to make sure we provide that as well as part of the Mass Effect 2 launch on PS3.”

Can PS3 owners expect to see the 360/PC downloadable content available at launch as well then?

“Our goal is to try and provide a lot of extra content,” said Muzyka, “Naturally some of the PDLC we’ve used in the past on 360 is a good jump off point for that.”

BioWare were unwilling to comment on whether or not that content will be included on the disc though.

“I don’t think we’ve announced the details of that yet, but that’s certainly an interesting idea,” added Dr Ray.

Whether any of that implies that the original will be heading to the PS3 remains to be seen, but considering that the best experience you can get from Mass Effect 2 is achieved with a Mass Effect 1 save, BioWare need to address that somehow.

If they don't... we still have Mass Effect 2 on the PS3, so you win either way.

I really don't understand all the love for this game. It wasn't by any stretch of the imagination BAD, but I certainly can't even entertain the idea of it being GOTY, or "such an amazing sci-fi tale" or whatever it is the fans are saying about it.

Btw number 1 will never be on ps3, because it's PUBLISHED BY MICROSOFT GAME STUDIOS, just like heavy rain will never be on 360 because sony publishes it.

Good cath #7. I'm assuming this just means that BioWare will add more stuff to the intro of ME2 to make it feel like a stand alone game.

@#7 - Yes, it's puiblished by MGS, but only because at the time, MS owned BioWare. Now they don't and if they're putting ME2 on the PS3, that means that BioWare have a lot more control over the license than you'd think.

@7: I'd be surprised if Bioware doesn't have some control of its license, as 9 says.

As for me, I'm stoked for this, with or without ME.

ME2 is by far one of the best RPG games of all time. And one of the best sci-fi stories as well. It is truly next gen in terms of playability, and graphics. It sets a standard for other rpgs and other games in general period. I woudn't be surprised and many would actually love to see a bundle pack of ME1 and ME2. I'll buy that for the ps3 in a heartbeat for whatever price. And so would many. With the ME franchise on the PS3, I can truly say that the 360 has nothing for me. And I like both systems I am far from any fanboy. But fact is fact.

Look at Demon's Souls. Sony published it in Japan, Atlus in NA, Namco Bandai in EU. The publisher means absolutely nothing. Square has published FPS's in Japan. It is all about localization. They don't end up owning the rights to the game when they publish it.

The reason Heavy Rain will never be on Xbox is because Quantic Dream is a First Party Developer. That means that Sony actually owns a majority stake in the studio. Same with Naughty Dog (Uncharted), Santa Monica Studio (GOW). Bioware and Insomniac are in the same boat. They are third party devs that had exclusive deals with M$ and Sony respectively.

Sony Japan is co-Owner Of Demon Souls. It will never go to Xbox because SCEJ and From Software were the ones who developed it Atlus and Namco Bandai released it too North America and Europe, Sony sold them the licence to bring it to everyone else but it's still Sony's IP and that means Atlus or Namco cannot bring it too Xbox unless Sony Tells them it's ok but in other words Demons Souls will never be for Xbox.

If everyone wants a chuckle, go to the xbox sister site and look at the thread on ME2 coming to us. Some are REALLY funny! A lot of xboxers want Uncharted, and a lot of them hope our PS3's crash when ME2 gets loaded. LOL! Personally, I am soooo stoked we get a chance to experience this. A definite win for us!

Its not a win for ps3 owners, you'll never get to play the first one suckers. It was a lot better and it makes no sense if you play trough the sequel without importing a charater. I'm glad i own a 360 wich is a lot better than the ps3. I only have one because of LBP and Uncharted. This is a mega fail by sony, PLAY mf1 before MF2.

Doesn't matter who publishes a game when it comes down to it what matters is who owns the license therefore yes ME 1 could make it to ps3.

You are a perfect example of 360 fanboys. Arrogant, jealous, indenial, immature, disrespective new age gamer. What I mean by new age I mean gamers now a days reside much more in there system of choice rather than the important part of this hobby we all share. The video games. I own systems both from launch including the Wii, and I must say to truly exp[erince the next generation of gaming is to purchase all three systems and open your mind and your experience to what all three has to offer. In other words...grow up.

There talk about Splinter Cell Conviction coming to the PS3 as well and when it does, the majority of teenagers of the 360 community (which is most of them) will go ape shit. And like I said, I wouldn't be surprised if Bioware and EA decide to release a bundle pack of both games in the series to the ps3.

first of all Microsoft has already said that because they published ME1 they will not be bringing it to the PS3 so that ends that conversation (Bioware does not have the right to publish it on any other platform because that is up to Microsoft)...secondly, I'm pretty stoked to get into this series because I have never played the games before and my friends have said they are pretty addicting, I'm hoping it will be a good game with loads of extra DLC included because it'll be a year old game by then

@26 Yeeesh. A little angry, aren't we? I have total respect for 360. Don't own one. Won't own one. Not because I don't think it's any good. Just can't get used to the controller. Most xboxers and PS3 guys are decent, but it's people like you that ruin it for everyone. It IS a win for Sony. Mass Effect is no longer an XBOX exclusive. And last I checked, Mass Effect is a big game. It would be like if Sony lost exclusivity on InFamous, LittleBigPlanet or Uncharted. Man, lighten up. As 29 said, we are ALL gamers. Don't be a dick.

Well do we get it or not? They didn't really manage to say much right there. Personally I probably won't buy this, as I have no idea what it is like, and I normally don't like sci fi, unless it has a very well developed and realistically grounded setting/story.

Ill be happy if 1 somehow got ported, as unlikely as that is. Maybe they will make a short DVD movie disc summarising the first game to be included?

@35 The big rumor I have heard is that ME2 will include an interactive prologue. It will go through ME1's story and allow you to make decisions based on what you are seeing in the prologue. Not perfect, but STILL better than no Mass Effect. Of course, take that with a grain of salt, as it is just a rumor.

wow XD im glad that we get ME2 im a huge fanboy and i would always says ps3 is better and we lost our share of exclusives as well but i didn't complain Midnight Club, Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear Solid, and many more lol. If Halo came to ps3 Xbox would be done but thats not gonna happen but idk if we lost an exclusive but nothing like GOW 3 UC2 LBP or something like that then ill get pissed cuz its bad enough we dont have too many exclusives.

Look all im trying to say is that, for exemple if killzone 3 or Infamous 2 would be coming to the xbox, I dont think it would be a win for microsoft. In my opinion you have to play all the games of a serie to really enjoy it. Playing ME2 makes no sense without importing a caracther (those who played both games on the xbox think will agree on that). BTW im not a fanboy,I think the ps3 is a way better system that doesnt break twice a year but I think the xbox 360 is a better online gaming experience.
What would be an extreme win for sony would be if they got both ME1 and 2 coming to the ps3 and bonus exclusive content for the third installment. I'm a proud owner of both systems it's just that the xbox consummes more of my time, with reason.

Even if theres a playable prologue, you dont get that little smile when you talk to a character you loved in the first game: Tali, Wrex, Garrus, Liara, Joker etc...
In my opinion, there should be no exclusives, every gamer should be able to experience all those amazing games without being fanancialy worried.

I reacted like that because on every thread people were saying things about how much the xbox sucked now, wich isn'true. The only exclusive thats beats the ass out of microsoft is uncharted, the second best serie of all-time after halo.

If u combine the price of a new copy of Mass Effect 2 and all the DLC, you get $61.98, which is close to the current price of ME2 for the PS3 (59.99). This could possibly mean that most (or atleast some) of the DLC from ME2 will be included with the game. (also, if u want the game, buy it new so you don't have 2 pay $15 to be able to get into the Cerberus Network which enables u 2 get the DLC, both free and not free).
