The vice president and managing director of Sony Computer Entertainment UK, Fergal Gara, has resigned.

According to a report by MCV, Sony says Gara departed the company to “pursue a new professional venture”. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s general manager of Nordics, East & South East Europe, Warwick Light, will replace him on August 10th.

Gara has been the boss of PlayStation UK since 2011, joining the company from a role as head of entertainment at supermarket chain Asda.

“Fergal is an extremely talented leader, and in his four years managing the UK business has significantly strengthened the brand and made countless contributions to our success,” said SCEE boss Jim Ryan.

“He has also served as a key member of the European Executive team, helping to steer PlayStation to even greater heights. We are extremely grateful for his dedication and for the legacy that he leaves.

“I have complete confidence that Warwick is the right person to replace Fergal in the UK role, and his 20 years of service to Sony has been marked by outstanding performance.”

For his part, Gara said, "I have had a fantastic time leading the PlayStation business in the UK and Ireland over the past four years. I am very grateful for having had this opportunity and I want to thank my team who have been amazing and, of course, Jim, for his support along with the wider PlayStation family who have helped make this period as successful as it has been.

"I wish Warwick every success as he takes on the UK and Ireland business at this exciting stage."

  • Warwick's talent overlooked for 20 years? That's loyalty you got there. Seems to be the right guy for the job.
  • looks like a virgin
  • May as well leave on a high.
  • Is it his leadership that has strengthened the brand in the UK, or is it the fact that Microsoft were absolute morons regarding the xbox launch? Regardless, I widh him the best of luck for the future.
