War Between Daybreak Boss and Lizard Squad Rumbles On

The ongoing battle between Daybreak (formerly Sony Online Entertainment) boss John Smedley and the notorious black hat hacker group Lizard Squad has escalated.

Back in August last year, Lizard Squad grounded a plane on which Smedley was travelling by calling in a bomb threat, while simultaneously bringing down PSN is protest at the service’s unreliability. Lizard Squad also claimed responsibility for the attacks which brought down PSN and Xbox Live last Christmas.

In a recent court case in Finland, Julius “Zeekill” Kivimaki was convicted for his part in the attacks, as well as 50,699 others related to computer crimes. Crucially, however, he avoided jail time and Smedley was incensed, taking to Twitter to voice his outrage.

“That was the piece of garbage that brought my plane down, leaked my information and did all kinds of other crap to me,” said Smedley in the first of a volley of tweets. “It's important to note - he was convicted of crimes that had nothing to do YET with the PSN DDOS over Christmas (yes he was part of that).”

“And he still has 15 other criminal cases awaiting prosecution in Finland. I may go after his parents in Civil court too. Little dirtbag,” Smedley continued. “What they won't tell you is he did time in jail already and got his ass kicked hard inside. @what_security - tell us that story Julius.”

“The FBI nailed this guy literally immediately. It took the Finnish government a long time to catch up. I also got to listen to the entire conversation between him and American Airlines the day he called in the bomb threat.”

Smedley concluded by threatening Kivimaki, saying: “His parents need to be held accountable for his actions in addition to his going to jail. @what_security - So I'm coming for you Julius.”

In retaliation to Smedley’s outburst, Lizard Squad attacked Daybreak’s games overnight. Smedley tweeted that the attack was “minor” but it was enough to temporarily bring down all of Daybreak’s games, including PlanetSide 2 and H1Z1.

The battle isn't over yet, either. With neither Smedley nor Lizard Squad looking likely to back down, it appears the war will rumble on for some time.

  • who cares.
  • Little bastards should burn
  • They hacked the network as a response to unreliable service BS!!!! They're just a bunch of idiots who enjoy pissing people off.
  • I've got no time at all for lizard squads shenanigans, but saying you are gonna go after the dudes parents and that they should be held accountable for his actions is a little stupid and harsh.
  • Both parties can do whatever the fuck they like as long as the rest of us don't get caught in the crossfire. If I haven't made it clear enough - Leave PSN alone !
  • What are they gonna do?...hack something so it goes down for a short while? Ooooo so scary.
  • I definitely on Smedley side here I cannot believe he didn't get jail time, if you cannot get to him (His parents need to be held accountable for his actions)I totally agree make life a nightmare.
  • He also made a bomb threat, for all he knows Smedley could of had his family with him. It has been know for families to travel with there husband while he goes on a business meeting.
  • I thought the FBI, CIA, MI5, etc all employed top rated hackers so how come they can't find the rest of the fucking basement dwelling rejects. Now what I don't understand also is that when they do catch them(like this guy) why don't they just bar them for life from being able to purchase ISP, probably don't because "it's against their human rights" which I call bullshit internet is a privilege not a right, anyway because if they done this and then still got around it by using a fake name, etc then the little shits could be done for fraud as well.
  • So, they've attacked his games because he said the truth? He broke allot of laws, the bomb threat alone should give him several years in jail, despite it being a hoax, it shouldn't matter if he's still a minor, throw him in a juvenile delinquent place, then throw him in actual jail when he's older enough, would make a nice and well deserved 18th birthday present for him.
  • why dont someone just go break his hands.
