Assassin’s Creed: Rogue, the upcoming PS3 and Xbox 360 title, will not contain any multiplayer or co-op content, Ubisoft has confirmed.

The reveal, courtesy of Game Informer, comes following the announcement that Assassin’s Creed: Unity, the Xbox One and PS4 AC release of the year, will not feature competitive multiplayer either. It does, however, have drop-in drop-out co-op for up to four assassins.

Assassin’s Creed competitive multiplayer debuted in AC: Brotherhood back in 2010 and has been a staple of the series since then. However, in light of Unity and Rogue dropping the element, it seems AC multiplayer’s day may be numbered. We’ll see.

Rogue was officially announced yesterday, with a debut trailer. You can watch the trailer below and loads more info on the game can be found through the link.

  • Now that is great news, all focus on the campaign :)
  • The more I hear about this game, the more I think I'll prefer it to AC Unity.
  • @1 im with you on this one! great to hear theres no multiplayer, i would prefer them perfecting a single player experience
  • Just been added to my pre order back log. Happy days.
  • YES! Great news. the multiplayer doesn't add anything to the AC experience.
  • This just sold it for me!
  • I hope this becomes a trend in every game.
  • That link doesn't go anywhere. :p But good news actually, the more I hear about Rogue, the more I like.
  • Yes! I was thinking of just going with Unity this time, but now once I'm done with Unity, I'm going to pick up Rogue.
  • As someone who does not have a ps4 yet, I will be picking up Rogue first, and then a Unity+ps4 bundle (if there will be one) So I can see the next gen improvements :)
  • Lol day 1 now
  • Yes, at last don't waste time or ressources on MP, make an even better single player experience instead !
  • my AC backlog is just getting bigger and bigger.
  • AWESOME. I buy Unity day one this at low price, but i'm happy is only SINGLE player.
  • I can't believe even one person misses one of the most unique MP offerings out there. I personally loved ever since it's first iteration and can't believe it's been totally scrapped, considering how popular it's been. All they needed to to is balance low ranked players against higher ranks, but even with that game was amazing. Sad to see this gone as now once you beat the campaign there is nothing to come back to... o matter how great campaign is (most likely isn't) it will never be as replayable as MP... Sad day for AC=(
  • A suitable single player is better than single and multi player together. Arkham series proved this.
  • I didn't realise they weren't getting MP, That kinda sucks, AC actually has really fun Multiplayer.
  • Great news!
  • Good news, about time we got another full entry without MP. Although I don't mind the sound of the MP in Unity as it's not forced and you can still complete missions the same way.
  • Am I the only one that liked the mp? Sure it isn't the best thing ever and after a while it get boring and it were basicly the same for the last 4 games but if it's there and don't take away from the sp and don't have those monstrous time sink trophies, it's a fun way to pass the time... I think the ac4 mp was the most accessible, had some degree of dept, variety, were fun and had nice paced trophies, it's a shame that whem it finally became a complete packaged they scraped... I remember that I played 1 and didn't liked, skipped 2 and only got back into thanks to the brotherhood beta that I played with my friends, now I have ac as my 1st most lived franchise up there with mass effect and god of war, so maybe I'm a little bias about the mp....
  • I liked the MP in AC3 and AC4, but it's welcome news just the same.
  • I really enjoyed the multiplayer in AC. It's nicely different from most other mp's. this is a great shame IMHO.
  • @15 The reason why I didn't like the multi player was because people wouldn't play it the "right" way. The majority of players would just run around and not even try to be sneaky at all. That defeats the whole purpose of the game. I hated every time I was stalking my target trying to get a really high score, and some other player comes rushing at me and kills me for an easy 100 points.
  • The MP has run out of gas. Every game it's the same drill. Tired of grinding massive MP levels.
  • :O SWEET
  • THANKS GOD!
  • My gawd, I am soo happy to hear that. TWICE. Yup that puts them way up the list.
  • I could only guess the AC multiplayer division at Ubisoft were told to only focus on AC Unity. I know studios use a different team to create multiplayer modes, it could be that reason. Kinda sad to see the AC multiplayer go though, despite the horrible match making and connection, it was fun... or at least if you were good at it. But I see getting rid of it for now is for the best.
  • YAY! *jumps for joy*
  • I like how people downvoted @15 for their opinion.
  • Great news this is what i was waiting for, now I'll start buying them again, assassins creed never needed multiplayer in the 1st place, all the good single player games started tacking on multiplayer so it's good ubisoft see that it's not what people want so it's good they went back to single player/ drop in drop out, I'm happy, ac2 got me into assassins creed because i was looking for good single player games at the time an thought i would try it out.
  • @28 Unity only has a 4 coop component. No competitive multiplayer.
  • makes sense. The dev team was already split in 2 to make the last gen and this gen games. MP for both would have had them stretch too thin.
  • Sold.
  • What the F Ubi. Multiplayer in your games is the best multiplayer IMHO. And you done fucked it up.
  • It's probably only out for this round... They're trying something new to the series with Unity and Rogue is probably a product of the ''B-team'' like Batman:Arkham Origins and Dark Souls 2 were... I would bet money it'll be back on the following next-gen one...
  • No multiplayer for Rogue? Love it. I guess it's good that some of the games due out this year got pushed back to next year, less money to spend this October/November.
  • @32, yeah I know, But I would assume the guys who basically designed the multiplayer functions and all would have been put on the Unity project to make sure co-op multiplayer works very good. Even if it's just 4 player co-op, I wouldn't imagine it being as easy to design multiplyaer components being that it's next gen and that it's the first time co-op is coming to the actually story gameplay which would be very tough.
  • I really enjoyed AC4's story. Really hope either this or Unity are just as good as 4 if not better than 2 which is the best 1 in my opinion.
  • I can only assume the number of players on the past few AC's MP were so abysmal that Ubisoft was saving money by eliminating it. The best MP was probably in Brotherhood when it was fresh and new. And since then the only cool thing they added was Wolfpack in ACIII. The multiplayer experience has gone virtually unchanged since its inception and the only changes Ubisoft seemed interested in was turning it into a confused paid-F2P where microtransactions are heavily featured. So while I am sad to see MP go since all it needed was some real changes rather than the small cosmetic lifts it got for each following game, I am also glad to see it go since Ubisoft was killing the game with all the microtransactions that had no place in a retail title.
  • A bunch of ignorant comments without any empathy... There's a shocker. Personally don't play the AC-MP (anymore) since I always get the game too late and get my ass royally handed to me, but this is a real shame. Like a few stated earlier, it's unlike most MP-experiences out there, and it's a real loss for those that don't spend their time whining about it. Hoping it'll appear in AC5, with updated mechanics and preferably with the model that doesn't reward long-time players and punish those just getting started a la... I think BlOps2 did something like it?
  • The only AC multiplayer I truly liked was Wolfpack (same as many). Hopefully this survives and makes it to Unity, as it was a co-op experience, not competitive. I'm glad I won't have to go through multiple versions of AC multiplayer towards the end of the year though, Black Flag was too much, while AC3 had it down perfect in terms of length.
  • No stupid MP trophies. Thank God.
  • So it would be fair to say that I am not the only one who is overjoyed at the prospect of not having to endure silly MP trophies !!! First AC Unity and now Rogue... it just gets better and better... Now if only CD would see sense and drop the MP from the next Tomb Raider game :)
  • It is sad to see that there is no multiplayer. AC multiplayer is quite fun when it is played properly or with friends. And I really enjoy playing wolfpack mode. Since there is no multiplayer, I hope the single player is really good. Don't disappoint Ubisoft
