"Do I Think That We Will Create a Dead Space Game Again? Yes,” Says EA

The Dead Space isn’t finished, EA continues to assert. And while there isn’t currently a Dead Space game in development, they’re not counting out a return at some point.

It’s hardly surprising. Dead Space creator Visceral Games currently has its hands full working on Battlefield Hardline and a new Star Wars game. But after that? Who knows.

"To the largest extent we can, we want to get the game teams to work on the things they want to work on themselves," EA Studios executive vice president Patrick Söderlund told Polygon at E3 2014. "There's an incredible amount of enthusiasm over Hardline and the Star Wars game at Visceral.”

"Do I think that we will create a Dead Space game again? Yes, I think so. But when we do so, we have to think about what made the previous ones successful and how we go about envisioning Dead Space for a new generation."

"Now, I'm not announcing a Dead Space game. We're not building one just to be very clear, but I'm saying is there an opportunity or possibility to do one in the future? Absolutely.”

  • 3 words EA. NO MORE MICROTRANSACTIONS.
  • Cool, I would love another Dead Space. Especially if its more like the first two games.
  • I'm done with Dead Space, if EA sold the rights to someone else i'd be down for another. Let me be clear i do not like EA their publishing policy sucks and their ideas "to make the game better" never makes the actual game better, just worse. Take a look at Dead Space 3 - Microtransactions and complete co op, something that complete destroys the heart of Dead Space, add that and you take away the atmosphere and horror. It's insane for a company like EA with so many employees to go and tell the creators that this will improve the game, that this is what the fans want. They are completely out of tune with the community and i honestly really dislike them. It's a shame they own such great studios such as Dice and Bioware...
  • If it'd be anything like Dead Space 3, they can keep it to themselves, thank you.
  • If you insist on adding MP, don't give it any trophies. Even in 2014, Dead Space 1 is still considered one of the best games on PS3 simply because of it not having online trophies. I really enjoyed DS1, hope DS4 would be something very similar.
  • Well, just make it a survival horror like Dead Space 1 and 2. If they´re planing to do another shooter like Dead Space 3, it´s better to let the franchise die.
  • Dead Space 4. You must pay this much to be able to start the game. You must then pay this amount to allow control of your character. Oh, and do not forget to pay this much for story progression.
  • Dead space 1 and 2 hands down great games 3 was average as a shooter with weird shit happening the carver missions and awakened ( the dlc) were the highlights of the game a really awesome place to stop ds3 at earth too bad most people never got that far
  • @5 I don't think anyone considers DS1 one of the best PS3 games 'simply because it does not have online trophies'. That's insane. I don't like online trophies, and I'm a pretty avid trophy hunter, but no one should have their opinion on how good the actual game is by the inclusion of online trophies. People like DS1 because it's the best in the series, and a damn good horror game. Plus DS1 didn't even have multiplayer.
  • I enjoyed Dead Space 3, but it wasn't a horror game. I feel like it went where the series was pushing: towards more action. It felt inevitable. I'd like to see a return to the style of the first game: eerie, atmospheric, and scary. Not sure they can do that with a direct sequel if the Awakened FLC is anything to go by.
  • Microtransactions have been in the series since the beginning with all the suits. You can also chapter select and farm materials making the material DLC worthless. And hating on co-op? Is this because you have no one to play with? Game is a blast with someone else and it's a blast solo. Also Isaac is too much of a beast. Series has never been survival horror when you go through the whole game with the starter weapon and you don't even break a damn sweat.
  • @11 I feel the same way and it applies to resident evil too. I'm a narrative driven person, and for me to feel uneasy I need to know the character I'm playing as does. So why Gould Chris Redfield, a fucking tank who killed the most bosses including wesker, feel scared? A game staring him SHOULD be an action game. Leon is right there with him although does things differently. Scale the world back some and give us a dad with a nailgun, looking for his family as an outbreak is just settin in. Dead space 4 had a solid opportunity to be set on earth, as a whole different character, or even let us play as Ellie. Someone who isn't on ther fourth game and a pro. DS1 was a brilliant game and easily the first one tht showed us you can give us power and mobility, and still make us feel like it's not enough.
  • Well, that Battle Royale at 5 bucks... might as well go for it... MIGHT being the key word in the phrase.
  • Dear EA Instead of Visceral games creating Hardline (which is going to fail) you should of got them to do a next gen Dead Space a new character and maybe storyline and back to its horror roots
  • OOpps, wrong place of my last post, I swear I was reading the sale news....
  • @#3 TO be fair it was still a great game. Not a survival horror like first one, but if you took it at face value as an action shooter ( sort of later RE games in space if you will) it was quite a blast to play both by yourself in co-op. I never even spent single dollar on so called micro transaction, so I can't condone them if someone is up for it. TO each their own. All I want is going back to the roots. Sure make it more linear, and control the story and scares more tightly and you're on to a winner=)
  • Go play 1 and 2. Understand what made those games great, why people loved them. Do that for 4 or a reboot and people will jump to get Dead Space again. it should not be an action game. It should be a game of suspense, atmosphere, trying survive while trying to destroy the very thing causing the problems.
  • yes and yes please please go back to the original first two three was good at some point but I do not like to build your own lego gun please please please go back to the first two
  • and it better take place after dead space 3 DLC on earth
  • The microtransactions never got in the way. I couldnt even tell how to buy them. I love dead space, first one was tense as hell second was still fantastic and third was pretty good.
  • microtransactions since we all love em lmao on a serious note i havnt gotten around to playin DS3 :/
  • @3 I totally agree with you here. I won't buy EA games at all no matter how tempting they are. I use to enjoy hockey too. But, these micro transactions in almost every game has to go. It took all the fun out of HUT mode for me. As to be able to complete HUT I would have to buy extra cards extra. I am done with micro transactions period, no matter the company and game. No need for them with any game at all. Keep everything on disc too so, done with DLC as well!
  • I stopped buying EA games since they ruined Dead Space 3. I will not be purchasing Dead Space 4 unless they get rid of the microtransactions and return the gameplay to the way it was in the first 2 games.
  • You want to stop microtransactions? Just don't buy them. Again majority will rule. If people buy them, they'll continue doing it. If they don't, then they'll stop. Voice your opinions on their message boards on their website. Not just here. I'll still buy EA stuff as I like the games the developers EA publishes make. Sometimes publishers force certain things into their developers games but overall, I still enjoyed the games. (non-sport games)
  • "Do we think that it will be shit? Yes,” say the fans.
  • EA: "Do I think that we will create a Dead Space game again? " ME: Yes,please make a new Dead Space game for PS4. EA: "Yes, I think so. But when we do so, we have to think about what made the previous ones successful " ME: Easy,no multiplayer,no co-op mission,no microtransation, and must be ONLY survival horror game.
  • Honestly, I don't think they can re-capture what made DS1 so good. In 1 We didn't know what Necromorphs were, we didn't know what Unitology was, the Ishimura was dimly-lit, tight corridors. The creep factor and horror served up there was largely due to the unknowns. 2 was a decent action/shooter but the aforementioned mysteries were largely gone, so we went fell to hallucinations. It was good for a scare at times, but the environments were way too open and populated with monsters to saturate us in the isolated creepiness. 3 was a cash-in. Pure and simple. It was an average co-op shooter. I would prefer the series be left alone... even though I know it won't because EA is made of Dementors (a la Harry Potter) that suck unique ideas and innovation out of every series and studio they acquire to reduce costs and dev time. Sometimes I wonder if anyone at EA has ever met a gamer?
  • If they do make another dead space i hope they take out co op and make the game scarier like DS1
  • please god dont make another one, #3 has no one online, literally as dead as it gets, why would these tards make another game when no one is playing the current one???!
