BioWare Edmonton and Montreal boss Aaryn Flynn has been discussing the new Mass Effect game, saying that the upcoming sci-fi- RPG will not be completely separate from the previous trilogy.

Speaking to GameTrailers, Flynn said “I can’t get into that too much. We’ve got a really cool idea for how we’re going to carry on – keep the trilogy separate but at the same time give a bunch of nods to fans who enjoyed the trilogy in the past. That’s all going to come out soon."

When asked about returning characters, Flynn added, “Hmm. Definitely returning races. It wouldn’t be a Mass Effect game without the Krogans – we showed a Krogan today.”

He’s right, they did show a Krogan. You can see one in the behind-the-scenes vid below, shown during EA’s E3 press conference earlier in the week.

  • Most of EA press conference was a joke IMO. Definitely the weakest one, with showing behind the scenes footage and concept arts on few games I was hoping would at least get proper trailer or something... Typical EA. I do like some of their franchises, but they are getting worse and worse each year. We don't want to see ppl talk about games they're making, we want to see them with our own eyes!!!
  • Translation: We wrote more space magic so we can keep milking Mass Effect.
  • @1 I'm sorry to say this but, isn't that the whole idea of the E3.
  • @#3 Nope, the idea of E3 is getting your hands on the latest and greatest. Think Ubi Rainbow Six announcement. We want to see something more than few art designs and devs talking about their games. Not sure if EA was trying to appear as someone letting their devs take their time with games after disaster BF4 was, but it didn't work for me...
  • I think this is going to be awesome on the next gen. Not a fan of EA but I love Bioware's work. @1 and 3, I'm with Doomsdayman on this. As far as E3 and gaming goes, sometimes you get trailers and sometimes you get discussions. E3 is not so much about getting your "hands on it" but more showcasing what is to come. Granted, EA was pretty weak with thier showcase, but they did "showcase" something.
  • If I don't have the option to make my protagonist Krogan, Turian or Asari I might honestly not be interested in ME4. As much as I love the trilogy I am so bored of Human heroes in general.
  • @6, I know what you mean. As long as the focus of the story is not Human specific, there is a good chance of playing a non human species. I would love to play an Asari, Geth or Quarian.
  • Uh...SO the game is a sequel, and not completely separate from the trilogy. Uh...so Bioware will canonize one ending? Because they are pretty much irreconcilable unless one pulls a Deus Ex Invisible Wars. Also, Bioware, how am I supposed to buy into a world and characters you are begging me to get invested in and (your words)a story I am supposed to be co writer of given the fact you had no qualms taking control away from me and force suiciding my character at the end if ME3 (or maybe not, I am supposed to actually imagine his fate in high EMS destroy because Bioware could not be bothered to give us a clear Shepard lives ending....would not have been artistic enough I guess)? right, I am very much not convinced of this
  • @4 Can't you just put a trailer up and post the link in twitter.
  • @8 - They're just gonna change the original trilogy by using the Bobby Ewing shower scene from Dallas. It was all a dream.....(For those of you too young to remember this, just google it)
  • @9 yeah because that is not a copout at all. Thank you Mac Walters, thank you very ****ing much
  • So this may as well be a new game with the Mass Effect name, since its not completely centered around the original trilogy... Why not make KotOR 3? Cuz honestly I'm sure most fans are sick of Dragon Age and Mass Effect being milked. And we need some proper closure to the KotOR lore anyway; I refuse to except anything in the MMO as canon.
  • I've saying this since Mass Effect 3 came out, in the next one I want a playable Krogan or I'm not buying it.
  • ME 3 Ending Spoilers: @8: Shepard lived in my ending. At least he was still breathing underneath all the rubble.
  • @13 According to Bioware that could be his last breath depends on the player. Sorry, I am not paying 60$ to imagine the fate of my character because they could not be bothered.
  • Well Regardless On How Weak Their Presentation Was Still Looking Forward To It
