Ubisoft has just revealed the very first footage from the next-gen Assassin's Creed: Unity, confirming the game's existence following this week's leaked images.

As originally reported, Assassin's Creed: Unity takes the series to the troubled streets of 18th Century Paris, where the French Revolution is in full swing. You'll play as dark robed assassin Arno, as this first in-game video shows.

There'll be more on Assassin's Creed: Unity for next-gen platforms in the coming months. According to Ubisoft, the game has been in development for over three years and is expected to land in holiday 2014. A last-gen version of AC codenamed Comet is also apparently in the works.

Check out the video below.

  • Oh god, I'm pumped already. Unsure on the name though, "Unity" Hmmmm.
  • So I'm guessing that this is going to be made by the team behind the Ezio trilogy rather than 3+4, judging by the apparent dev time, and that they flipped studios after revelations, for 3 which had been in development since 2. They may be milking this franchise to death, but I like the taste of this kind of milk, really hope they change up the MP, as it is it's a great concept but the people who play it don't understand how it's supposed to be played so either take it back to the drawing board, or scrap it, also hope they sort out the free-running so I can feel more in control and make the combat more difficult by removing that god awful kill streak. Oh and please capitalize on the 18/M rating, and put realistic damage in there.
  • So the Quasimodo the hunchback is the Grandmaster of the Assassin Order in France and the Notre Dame is the hideout i presume.
  • Ugh, this wreaks of AC3 and boringness. Nobody cared about the French revolution. Forcing Assassins into well known political wars is kind of lame. Can't we go back to pirates, or the renaissance. I like the time period but the story is going to be as dull as AC3. I hope they don't have horrible level designs like they did with 3 either. AC4 was just brilliant though, totally awesome and as fun as AC2.
  • I Can understand the name. Unity, equality, fraternity were the core principles of the revolution. What I cannot understand is why it has to be a guy. Again. And one that is named after a river in Florence.
  • I'm sad to say that this game has worn away and I am getting bored of it now. Another series that has been milked, and this looks to be one with a boring, forced plot like Assassin's Creed 3. Bring back the ways of AC2.
  • Not gonna lie, this game could have potential. The archircture of the buildings remind me so much of AC2 or Brotherhood and that's a good thing. Hopefully the graphics are similar to that trailer too. Now if Ubisoft can do something about the storytelling...
  • I think the game market is being saturated with the same old stuff, I like assassins creed, don't get me wrong, however I think they need to give it a break, leave it a while and come out with something truly new and amazing not just the same old stuff with the same old story and an assassin with a different name with a different coat colour etc...please :/
  • Looks awesome, I can't wait, especially with this promising setting ! :)
  • Looks exactly the same as almost all the others... meh.
  • ATTENTION MODERATORS!!!! The new final fantasy 14 patch 2.2 has been in the works for months but barely any news on here for it. The patch comes out on march 27th. And today they put up some really detailed notes on it. Here is the link. http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/topics/detail/638e05ee98d7e940e63b866abfa2f50fd428c5c2
  • Sweet hope this is just really for ps4 I don't want any ports from last gen full next gen killer graphics let's do this
  • sorry that was extremely off topic. But I figured you guys would like this news.
  • Yay?
  • I actually wanted another game with Edward if I'm honest :(
  • I seem to be the opposite of some people but I think this sounds much more interesting than some pirate nonsense.
  • I do like the assassin's creed games(althought revelations and 3 were weak) but come on ubisoft just give us frigging ninjas already.
  • they worked on this for 3 years and only now everyone finds out? impressive. most impressive.
  • Yay yearly release. Yawn.
  • the ''3 years in the making'' is scaring me a bit. they said the same thing about AC3 and it was kinda dissapointing. isn't AC4 took less time than that? anyway, we'll see when its out.
  • This seems to be returning more to the AssCreed Roots: Climbing famous buildings and stabbing people. Instead of Hunting Animals and Steering Boats. Not that 3 and 4 were bad, but they didn't really match the previous titles in the series. They were kind of AssCreed in name only (and the fact that you wore hooded robes by default).
  • Interesting that this one doesn't have a number... based on the previous titles so far, a new protagonist should give this game a number, shouldn't it? So why just Unity, and not Assassin's Creed V: Unity or similar? Also, this means we will have had two Assassin's Creed games on next gen consoles before many series have even managed one.
  • The name Unity is kind of, " could have better" but maby it is a good match with the storyline. Cant wait for it, as soon as the expensive edition is available, I pre-order right away. Only too bad its nof for PS3, but hopefully this Comet is also good.
  • Sure, I'll play it. AC4 was the best in the series. AC3 was awesome. Same ol same, but that's a good thing in this case. Don't fix what isnt't broken.
  • Meh
  • Whats the other ass creed game coming out this year? I heard there was 2
  • Unity prob has to do with the French revolution itself. AC has always has some social/economic class conflict. If you want possible plot spoilers wiki up the French revolution.
  • The name makes me think of Wii U. Thankfully it's not a Nintendo exclusive.
  • This coming out next to games like Arkham Knight and Destiny makes it look so lame.
  • @3: Nope, it's Jean Valjean. And to everyone bemoaning the Unity subtitle, Queen Latifah will be doing the soundtrack, so it makes sense...
  • I Hope they EXCLUDE any multiplayer.. I mean AC2 was the best to ever be,,,So much passion was put in that game. BECAUSE no time needed for a crew to focus on it ... So as a big fan of the series { story-wise }. Please but the beauty back in the game. not the greed that consumes a multiplayer feature. But a Co-op would be okay. It would be new to the series !<
  • @24 Yes, of course! Monotony is usually seen as a good thing. Wait...
  • @32 well if the story is solid the gameplay really just has to be fine and not detach from the experience
  • This game needs at least one trophy related to the guillotine.
  • Not very happy about the setting/time period but very happy they came back to the origins of the series! Ac3 was passable excuse of a assassins game but ac4 was plain awful, great pirate game, worst assassins creed yet!
  • Sorry for the double post, forgot to say, too bad that they were gradually tainting the all white robe with other colors till the point to finally ditch it all toguether :/
  • Thank god, it's not another pirate game, naval combat and having to travel all over the Carribean was what made AC4 suck.
  • Hope this is similar to ac2
  • @22: I've thought the same thing. Maybe they are just doing away with the numbers altogether.
  • Knew it was gonna be French Revolution, so Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, Robespierre and even Napolean could be NPC's No Eiffel Tower to climb though
  • Can't wait for this years installment of Assassin's Modern Creed Duty.
  • I hope it's like acII
