Ever since THQ's uncerimonious end more than a year ago, the fate of several of the former publisher's work-in-progress projects have been up in the air. Two of the most high-profile titles whose current status has been rather quiet of late, are fimmaker Guillermo del Toro's inSANE and ex-Team Ninja dev Tomonobu Itagaki's Devil's Third.
However, former THQ boss Danny Bilson has some information on where the future of both games currently lies. In relation to Guillermo del Toro's iNSANE first of all, Bilson says that he's planning to speak to the Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy and Pacific Rim director about the game 'soon.'
“I haven’t heard that he’s doing anything with it yet, although I do have an idea how to revive it, and I’m gonna speak to him soon,” Bilson said of del Toro and inSANE. “As much as I can tell you about it is that it was an action adventure game with really great environments, story and characters, and it was period and very Lovecraftian. I don’t wanna spoil it, in the hope that Guillermo wants to go further with it.
“It was really atmospheric, a great world. There were environments in that game that players have never been through before. It had a really interesting narrative, a really great character that the player inhabited in it," Bilson continued.
“It was at Volition for at least a year towards the end there. The people who really worked on it were at Volition. There were probably – I don’t remember exactly – about 35 people working on it in preproduction, doing some prototyping and working on some technology, things like that. They were very passionate about it at Volition.”
Last we heard of inSANE was at the beginning of last year, when del Toro claimed to be in talks with a "very, very big company" about bringing the game to fruition. It has since gone deadly quiet on that front. Announced in 2010, inSANE had been originally slated for 2013. We'll see what happens following Bilson and del Toro's meeting.
“I know a whole lot about it. It’s funny because that one there’s gonna be an announcement about soon. I don’t wanna spoil information but I can say I’m very close to Itagaki, and I’m very, very aware of Devil’s Third," Bilson teased.
“I can’t say very much because I believe there’s an upcoming announcement beyond what he said in January that’s pretty specific and very, very exciting. Even though I’m not working for any of these guys I have to respect all the confidentialities. There’s an update coming for sure.”
We'll have more on inSANE and Devil's Third as it drops.

As for Tomonobu Itagaki and his team at Valhalla Game Studios, Devil's Third is supposed to be in the pipeline for an independent release in 2014, as it apparently nears completion. Indeed Bilson says we should expect an announcement just around the corner.
