Sony America has announced that a new PlayStation 3 LEGO The Hobbit bundle will be heading to North America this spring, tying in with the forthcoming game that features action from the first two movies in The Hobbit trilogy.

The bundle throws together a 500GB PS3 console and a copy of LEGO The Hobbit for a suggested retail price of $269.99, meaning you can grab a PS3 and journey across Middle-earth with Bilbo, Gandalf, Thorin Oakenshield et al.

LEGO The Hobbit is out in spring 2014, ahead of Hobbit trilogy closer 'The Hobbit: There and Back Again' in theatres this December. Get some new screens from the game below.

  • Ummm... Why?
  • Still don't understand why they're releasing it now when the last films out in December. They can't just release the last film as a stand alone game, surely?
  • Is it a super slim?
  • @2 It'll be released as DLC probably. I really don't get it. Almost as confusing as releasing a PS3 bundle with this game. I like the LEGO games, they're amusing but surely they could bundle a higher quality game?
  • Anything to sell more PS3 units.....
  • Why introduce a new PS3? seems pointless to me.
  • @3 The CECH-4000 series is the only model in production, so it'd be wise to assume so. @6 It's not a new PS3, just a new bundle. I'm guessing this is meant to be a more kid-friendly bundle. PS3 is nowhere near being finished, so whatever moves units I suppose. PS3 still has a chance to finish the race in first since Wii sales have essentially stopped.
  • ok, I am getting the feeling that we are getting a bit rip-off, they could have waited for it to release the same day as the final movie, and have all 3 movies in it, not just 2. it will be a short game I guess.
  • Would've preferred they put all 3 movies into one like others have mentioned (like with LOTR), but perhaps they have plans for the third movie. Let's just hope the games aren't rip offs for what they're being released as. If not... I'll wait til it's in the bargain bin, lol.
  • If you guys don't play all the Lego games, let me remind you that Lego Pirates of the Caribbean came out before Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides and still had all 4 movies on it. I finished the game before the movie and knew how it ended. Since they have Warner Bros license they may have the story for the third movie, which has been done filming for 3 years, and the game may have the third movie on there already. Or they'll do what they did with Harry Potter or Indiana Jones and make 2 full games out of it. Either way more fun for us. If you like games just trust them.
