DICE has today unveiled Battlefield 4's seven multiplayer game types, which includes BF favourites Rush (24 players) and Conquest (for up to 64 players on next-gen, 24 on current), as you'd expect, as well as classic Team Deathmatch (20 players), Squad Deathmatch (16 players) Domination (20 players) and two new modes called Obliteration and Defuse.

Obliteration is described by DICE as a "Battlefield Moments Generator", in which players make a "mad dash" to vehicles on foot, before speeding towards one of three opposition targets on the map to deliver a bomb. Each team will compete to grab the bomb, arm it at the objective and detonate it. The first team to destroy all three targets on the map, wins. This mode supports 24 players on current-gen and 32 on next-gen.

Second new 5v5 game mode Defuse is described as "highly competitive and lethal", with each player possessing a single life that can be snuffed out in a nano second. Focused on close-quarters combat, a game of Defuse is won when one team eliminates the other or when a team arms and detonates a designated military objective, like the M-COM stations in Rush.

Also, DICE has confirmed Battlefield 4's ten multiplayer maps leaked yesterday, with proper names:

  • Siege of Shanghai
  • Paracel Storm
  • Zavod 311
  • Lancang Dam
  • Flood Zone
  • Rogue Transmission
  • Hainan Resort
  • Dawnbreaker
  • Operation Locker
  • Golmud Railway

Sounds good to us. Battlefield 4 is out on October 29th in North America and November 1st in Europe for current-gen, before coming to next-gen platforms on launch day.

  • I really like the sound of the 5v5 mode where you only get 1 life. It'll make the game even more realistic, you'll have to work as a team and not just run and gun, it should be quite an intense game mode. I think Conquest is the game mode I'll play the most, purely because it can support 64 players :-)
  • Thats very bland list. Hopefully the 64 player count will make it better.
  • No 64 players on Rush ?
  • @3 All it would consist of would be 60 medics and 4 snipers. I hate Rush players more than any other BF3 game mode. Its not a strategy for everyone in your squad to be medics and cpnstantly revive each other while using the easiest guns in the game to control.
  • @4 I do not have PC but.... man I can feel you
  • Can't forget the one support that c4 the mcoms and camps to wait
  • @3 I know, what the hell? @4 that won´t be practical in BF4 anymore, every class is going to have some "minor" changes that will generate a completely new gameplay and strategy for the modes, regarding that matter about the medic train, it won´t be practical because defibrilators will need a cooldown after each revive, depending on how much you let it cool down it will give either super low health or high health on the revived player, and IIRC, there will only be 3 charges per life, so you can only revive 3 times while you´re alive. So, again, 24 in Rush makes no sense, unless it was a typo, or what´s the reason behind that? why not 64?
  • They call it defuse, I call it search and destroy - either way should be fun and tense with miked up friends, with silent randoms I don't know...
  • @7 Thank GOD!!! I am so tired of being a one many army that massacres 6 people but wait...that 7th guy I didn't see is a medic and he revives a medic who revives a medic who rrevives a medic and they all slaughter my ass and my squad mates that barely arrived to the party. With that in mind why the hell isn't there 64 player for this? Possible update fix?
  • Played a bit of BF4 at Eurogamer in London yesterday. Liked it a lot more than the last one, which I found a bit disappointing if I'm honest.
