Introduction:
Tales of Xillia is the lastest installment in the “Tales of” series celebrating the series’ 15th anniversary and has shown the most sales in all of the “Tales of” games just from preorders alone. This is the first time both of the Tales teams work together on a single Tales game as Team Symphonia and Team Destiny work with together to give us this amazing product. The story of Xillia takes place in the world of Liese Maxia where humans, spirits, and demons reside within this world together in perfect harmony. Milla Maxwell ,the main heroine, also known as the Spirit Maxwell, protects everything to keep it in perfect harmony; however, a dictator known as Nachtigal appears to disrupt that harmony for the sake of his own power. You play as Milla Maxwell and Jude Mathis along with the additional characters you meet in the story to stop the evil aspirations of Nachtigal and prevent war from breaking loose.
Trophy wise the game is much easier in comparison to previous Tales games such as Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Graces F. In previous games you are tasked with obtaining every single treasure chest, completing all subevents, skits, and much more. In Tales of Xillia, you are given a little room to breathe as you are only forced to complete around 90% of each task for its respective trophy. There is also the factor that you can play the game strictly on easy and still unlock every trophy doing so. The only troublesome trophy when obtaining would be ??????????? (Best Sub-Eventer) because some of the subevents will be unattainable after you progress to certain points in the game; however, if you follow the story walkthrough supplied under its description it will list out the subevents for you when they become available as well as let you know which ones have a time restriction on them.
Dual Raid Linear Motion Battle System ( DR-LMBS ):
In almost all “Tales of” games, a form of the Linear Motion Battle System was used. In Tales of Xillia, the DR-LMBS is used and has various features such as:
- Assault Counter (AC): This system is similar to the Chain Capacity (CC) system in Tales of Destiny & Tales of Graces where all of your attacks will consecutively hit the enemy so long as you have the necessary AC for each attack used.
- Link Mode: You can link up with one of your 3 allies in combat and have your AI Ally do various things such as protecting your from certain attacks and surrounding an enemy target with you and attacking it with you. Also, with Link Mode you can perform Link Artes with your allies combining various Artes that both characters have. Please note that while playing multiplayer with friends, the other player will not be able to control his character if put under a link.

Optional Downloadable Content:
As Tales of Xillia grew closer to release, more and more DLC became announced for the game, specifically DLC such as costumes. While this DLC holds only visual appeal to fans, there is also DLC that can help trophy acquisition such as the following:
- LV???+5(1) (Level Up +5) : 300?
- LV???+5(2) (Level Up +5) : 300?
- LV???+5(3) (Level Up +5) : 300?
- LV???+5(4) (Level Up +5) : 300?
- LV???+10(1) (Level Up +10) : 450?
- LV???+10(2) (Level Up +10) : 450?
Yes, they are all just DLC to increase to level of your characters. However, as you get closer to hitting the max level (which is LV.99), the amount of experience you are required to earn will skyrocket from its previous levels so you can use this DLC as a shortcut for that or even to just make the game easier for you in the long run. The DLC does carry over between playthroughs so if you use it in your 1st Playthrough it will still show up in your DLC selection of items in your menu during the 2nd Playthrough. For a complete list of DLC please refer to the following link: Downloadable Content (Translated)

To Download this DLC you require a Japanese PSN Account. If you do not have one or do not know how to create one you can view this Tutorial: Making a Japanese Account Using Your PS3
If you require Yen ? to purchase DLC you must purchase a PSN Japanese card off an import website or a local import store if they so happen to carry it.
Trophy Acquisition (Track Your Progress):
Tales of Xillia has many trophies that require you to perform a certain action or complete certain tasks a multiple amount of times. Trophies like these usually leave players in the dark in other games as there is no counter or way to track your progress so you know how much longer until you will unlock it. Luckily, in Tales of Xillia there are two ways of tracking your progress towards your trophies. You can view your progress by going to ????? (Library) in the menu and then selecting ???? (Records) or by checking your ????? (Titles List).
Getting Started (Difficulty Influences)
When you start up a New Game on Tales of Xillia for the first time you will be redirected to the options menu where you can set various things such as the speed of the text in dialogue boxes, background music, battle music effects and much more. The only notable select however would be the difficulty setting, here you can select what difficulty you want to play on. The difficulty you select will no penalize you as far as trophies go however it will affect the amount of drops, experience and gald that you receive in battle. If you are an experienced player or at least understand japanese characters then you may want to play on one of the higher difficulities otherwise it would be better for novices or those who don’t understand what anything means to set their games to the easiest.
Missable Trophy ??????????? (Best Sub-Eventer) Details:
While going for the in Tales of Xillia this trophy will be the biggest obstacle in your way of completing all the trophies. What makes this trophy missable is that there are only a little over 100 Sub Events in the game and you are tasked with completing 90 of them, and of those 100+ Sub Events you have around 30 that are timed meaning you must complete them before a certain point in the game (usually before the end of the chapter you are currently playing in). So when going for this trophy be sure to keep yourself updated with one of the links (depending on which playthrough you are going through at the time) as it’ll let you know what sub-events are available to you as well as if they are timed or not so you know which events hold a priority over the other.
Long Term Trophies (Start These ASAP)
There are various miscellaneous trophies which require you to do a lot of extra things outside of regular play, some of these can be unlocked naturally but others you must be aware of the requirements for the trophy right away otherwise you might be grinding them out during end game which would waste quite a bit of time. Here are the list of trophies that should be started ASAP to avoid a longer end game grind:
????????? (Peta Treasureman)
??? (Pirate King)
????? (Jet Black Wings)
These trophies are related to treasures in some way, make sure you pick up every random treasure and treasure chest in each map you go through. Also keep the Aifreed Treasure Locations (Translated) in hand so you can collect them as you proceed reducing the amount of back tracking you must do. And so long as you are always picking up random treasures and treasure chests the amount of black feathers you need for ????? (Jet Black Wings) will reduced or possibly achieved by end game.
????? (Cruel Bastard)?????? (Representative of Link Arte)
????????? (Chain Wanderer)
?????? (Mentalist)
??????? (Amazing Chef)
These trophies involve in-battle actions. The required amount for most of these trophies goes as high as 1350 so you definitely want to get started on these right away to an excess amount of time wasted grinding these out. Please refer to all of the above trophies in the guide for more information in regards to them.
Character Specific Trophies:
In battle, each character has a trophy that can be unlocked while controlling them and while having them as your link partner. For each trophy you have to perform the certain action 150 times. Opposed to the list above these trophies aren’t so long to grind out but I would definitely recommend getting started on them early on while you progress through the main story. Here is the list for both controlled and linked character specific trophies:
Controlled:
??????? (Spirit Artes Master)
???????? (Charge Master)
??????? (Tipo Master)
?????? (Tuning Master)
???????? (Staff Artes Master)
Linked:
?????? (Skillful Restore)???? (Skillful Binding)
????? (Breaker)
????? (Drain Magic)
??????? (Spirit Artes of the Iron Wall)
???????? (Amazing Snatcher)
First Playthrough (Complete Everything):
During this playthrough you want to complete every trophy besides the other story trophy that must be done in a second playthrough. Depending on the character you chose for this playthrough please refer to their walkthrough as it will let you know where to go and what subevents and skits you can obtain as you progress for their respective trophies.
This will be a long playthrough, make sure you pick up all treasures, random treasures, Aifreed Treasures, fight every enemy, and do every sub event. The biggest concern you should have is the sub events which was detailed earlier in the roadmap. So long as you successfully unlock that then everything else shouldn’t be a problem. By the end of this playthrough you should have unlocked the following trophies along with the ones listed earlier:
????????? (Monster Doctor)????????? (Item Crazy)
??????????? (Best Sub-Eventer)
?????? (Item Shop VIP)
?????? (Weapon Shop VIP)
?????? (Armor Shop VIP)
??????? (Accessory Shop VIP)
?????? (Cooking Shop VIP)
?????? (Beast-Hunting Knight)
????????? (Rare Monster Professor)
???????????(Great Comboist)
?????? (Black Belt in Kenpo)
???? (Spirit Master)
???? (Strongest Mercenary)
?????? (Pro Spirit Magician)
???? (Genius Tactician)
????? (Folklore Disciple)
???????????? (The One Who Knows of Rise Maxia)
???????????? (The One Who Goes to Rise Maxia)
??????????????? (The One Who Can Feel Rise Maxia)
???? (The Strongest On Earth)
EX New Game (Grade Shop):
Upon starting your next playthrough you will access to the grade shop where you can determine what will carry over from your last playthrough into this next playthrough. If you unlocked all other trophies as you were supposed to then you should have well over 6000 or 7000 grade (maybe even more). To find out what else you can do to influence the amount of grade you obtain please refer to the Titles List (Translated). Now at this point you can also obtain a free trophy at the cost of 3000 Grade which is ??? (Radio). When you are able to access the menu at the start of the playthrough you can go into your list of skits and watch them all under ????? (Library) and then going down to ??????? (Chat List); once you have viewed the 220 needed for the trophy it will unlock and then you can reload your save and spend that 3000 grade elsewhere. Here is a list of good recommended selections you can choose from in the grade shop for this speed run playthrough:
- ???????? (Inherit Half Max Level)
- ??????? (Inherit Max Level)
- ????2? (2x Damage)
- ????????? (Inherit Items)
- ?????????? (Inherit Accessories)
- ?????? (Inherit Fel Arms)
Keep in mind any DLC you bought will carry over as well. You can view the complete list of options in the grade shop in the following link: Grade Shop (Translated)

Second Playthrough (Speed Run):
Now unless you want to stop and listen to the other characters side of the story you can just press and skip every cutscene and go through for your main objective in this playthrough. With levels and equipment carried over as well as 2x Damage you can easily defeat every boss in one hit. Depending on the player this step could take 5-10 hours if the player is fast enough. If you forgot which way you need to go refer to one of the character walkthroughs listed earlier in the roadmap. Finally once you have completed this playthrough you should have both of your story completed trophies and your shiny platinum:
??????????? (The One Who Overcame For Her Unwavering Convictions)
????????? (Xillia Master)
Conclusion:
Overall Tales of Xillia is a wonderful game, it is much more fast paced than previous Tales games and has a well-done story. The trophies give breathing room opposed to most other JRPGs making it one of the easier to obtain. This game is highly recommended for any JRPG/RPG fan. We can only hope it will hit western shores one day!
