In recent years we've played many military shooters where we explored a sandy locals, but we've never played one like this. An epic sandstorm has wiped Dubai clean off the map. Six months later, signs of life have emerged. A Delta Recon Team is sent to investigate.

You play as Captain Martin Walker. Together with your Delta Force Bravo Team you embark on a search for survivors in a city buried by sand in this tactical third-person shooter. Expecting a routine operation and an easy evac, you instead find yourselves caught in a war ignited by an out-of-control madman.

You must now make difficult decisions as you try to survive a frantic combat zone where out-of-nowhere sandstorms can shift the battlefield in an instant. You're going to have to improvise, shoot straight, and make good use of your squad commands if you ever want to get home alive.

Step 1:
Play through the campaign on "Suicide Mission" difficulty. This is the second hardest difficulty setting but finishing the game on this setting is required to unlock "FUBAR" difficulty. Suicide difficulty is not difficult as the name suggest. If you play smart, take cover, and don’t go all “Rambo” you should be able to knock out this playthrough in about 6 hours. Also, the fact that this is a squad based shooter means you can order your squad mates to do some of the heavy lifting if you're low on health and/or ammo.

During this playthrough enjoy the game and make whatever decisions you like. You will have another playthrough and there is also chapter select so don't worry about the decision based trophies.

As you play through the game try to get as many kills with each weapon type as you can but don’t dwell on the weapon kill trophies. You will have more than enough opportunities to get those trophies.

Optionally, you can go for the collectibles trophies in this playthrough or save it for your FUBAR run. Even though all stats and collectables carry over between playthroughs I suggest you get all the collectibles during this playthrough so you can focus on killing and surviving during your FUBAR playthrough. During this step you should unlock the following trophies:

  • They Live
  • Treacherous Ground
  • The Lost Battalion
  • Desert Storm
  • The Horror
  • Three Kings
  • The Great Escape
  • A Bridge Too Far
  • Boot
  • We Were Soldiers
  • The Devil's Disciple
  • Spotter
  • Recon
  • Intel Operative
  • Marksman - Rifle
  • Marksman - Small Arms
  • Marksman - Shotgun
  • Marksman - Sniper
  • Marksman - Heavy Arms
  • Marksman - Grenade
  • Aim High
  • Applied Force
  • In Your Face
  • Blind Luck
  • Good Training
  • Situational Awareness
  • Battle Management
  • Close Combat Carnage
  • Airspace Control
  • Damn Close
  • Army of One
  • Preventive Diplomacy
  • The Human Factor
  • Deer Hunter

You should also unlock half of these decision based trophies:

  • A Man of Action or
  • A Man of Patience
  • Damned if You Do or
  • Damned if You Don't
  • Friendly Fire or
  • Unfriendly Fire
  • A Line, Crossed or
  • A Line, Held
  • A Farewell To Arms or
  • Too Late The Hero
  • The Road Back or
  • The Road To Glory

Step 2:
Playthrough the campaign again on the FUBAR difficulty setting, During this playthrough be sure to make the opposite decisions of the ones you made during your first playthrough. FUBAR is clearly more difficult than the "Suicide Mission" difficulty. You will die quicker and the enemies are stronger, more aggressive and deadly accurate. By far the most common question asked is how FUBAR difficulty stacks up against this generations other popular shooter's hardest difficulties.

  • FUBAR is harder than Modern Warfare 2, 3 and Black Ops' Veteran difficulties. A general consensus has also concluded that FUBAR is more difficult than all 3 Uncharted games on Crushing.
  • FUBAR is not as hard as Killzone 2's Elite or COD: World at World's Veteran difficulties (specifically the late Russian missions).
  • FUBAR is considerably harder than Battlefield 3's Hard & Homefront's Guerrilla difficulties.
  • FUBAR is on par with Resistance Fall of Man's Superhuman difficulty (i.e. Yes it is difficult but no, not in a cheap way).
  • If I had to choose one game that has a similar difficulty level to Spec Ops' FUBAR difficulty, I would say SOCOM 4 on Elite (but without the burden of having Chung on your fire team always ruining everything by being an idiot).

For assistance with FUBAR difficulty please see the trophy description for MFWIC, you should also check out my FUBAR - Problem Areas Guide Here!

During this step you will unlock:

  • MFWIC

You should also unlock the opposite decision trophies of the ones you unlocked during your first playthrough, these trophies include:

  • A Man of Action or
  • A Man of Patience
  • Damned if You Do or
  • Damned if You Don't
  • Friendly Fire or
  • Unfriendly Fire
  • A Line, Crossed or
  • A Line, Held
  • A Farewell To Arms or
  • Too Late The Hero
  • The Road Back or
  • The Road To Glory

Additionally, you should also unlock any trophies you missed during your first playthrough. These trophies possibly include:

  • Adapt and Overcome and any number of the weapon kill trophies.

Step 3 - Clean Up:
Use this step to clean up any trophies you may have missed via the chapter select option. These trophies more than likely include:

  • Sierra Hotel
  • All You Can Be

See the Guide for more info if you need any more help with them.

Once all steps have been completed, congratulate yourself on your new shiny Trophy.

  • Complete game on "FUBAR" difficulty.

FUBAR unlocks after finishing the game on "Suicide Mission." Its not easy. Follow these tips to make this playthrough less painful.

For help with the toughest spots on FUBAR difficulty please see my FUBAR - Problem Areas Guide.

    General Tips:

    • First and foremost use your squad mates and command ability as much as possible. This saves you important ammo and lowers your risk of you dying.
    • Take your time. This game does not have infinite enemy spawn points. So there is no need to rush to the next checkpoint. So if you find yourself a nice piece of cover then stay there until the enemies push up to you.
    • Don’t think about the game in terms of chapter to chapter. Play the game from checkpoint to checkpoint. Every checkpoint you reach is a victory. Keeping your focus on checkpoints will do wonders for your mental health.
    • Execute enemies for extra ammo. Sometimes when you shoot an enemy he doesn't die, he just lays there dying. If it is safe to do so then get close to him and execute him by pressing . You will be rewarded with ammo pick-ups for both your carried weapons and sometimes grenades.
    • Remember not all cover is good cover. Some times that barrier you’re camping behind can be destroyed. And enemies often flank your position.
    • To piggyback off the last point, always use cover. You will die in 2-4 shots; you don’t want to be out in the open.
    • When one (or both) of your squad mates goes down make sure you clear the area, and whomever downed him before you pick him up or send the other team member in. You have a decent amount of time to get to your fallen comrade, so take your time before you try for the revive. One downed soldier can quickly turn into three and a game over screen.
    • Use the Uncharted cover method. For those of you unfamiliar with the Uncharted method its basically when enemies are around a corner or high wall you should not go into cover mode. Just stand close to the corner/obstacle and slowly peak outside while aiming down the sights. This will enable you to shoot the enemy without them being able to hit you. That corner/high obstacle will act as a protective barrier.
    • Specific areas can be made much easier and conflicts can even be avoided entirely by using stealth. If you have a stealth weapon always chose the stealthy approach.
    • I know this sounds obvious but aim for the head. Quick kills are critical.
    • On that same point, make sure your aim is true. This is not Call of Duty where as long as you put your reticule in the same area code of an enemy your sights would “snap” to the enemy. Note: You can choose to turn on "aim snap-on" and it will not negate this trophy.
    • Keep an eye on your ammo situation. Ammo in Dubai is scarce. There will be many instances when you won’t be able carry your favorite weapon because you won’t have ammo for it. Always make sure you have at least one full weapon before you move on to the next checkpoint, this may not be a preferred weapon.
    • Use your grenades. These things are life savers. Even a well placed stun grenade can be the difference in you beating a certain checkpoint.
    • Move slowly. Sometimes when you think you have cleared an area, there is a cowardly enemy soldier hiding and waiting for a quick kill.
    • Properly prioritize your threats; if there is a CQC expert in the area, he is the main threat. This also goes for the aggressive shotgun guys, snipers, and of course Heavies.
    • Get rid of your pistols as soon as you can. They’re worthless.

    Weapon Tips:

As I mentioned above you won’t always have a chance to wield your favorite weapons. But if you have a chance, always hold on to these weapons.

    • AA-12 - Best gun in the game, hands down.
    • M32 MGL Grenade launcher
    • M4A1 - your default weapon, it’s dependable.
    • 417 assault rifle - Powerful single shot assault rifle, with a sniper scope.
    • SCAR-H - Powerful and has an attached grenade launcher which is awesome against Heavies.
    • P90 - This gun has good stopping power, a high rate of fire, and shreds through armor. But it's not great at a distance.
  • Kill 350 enemies with any rifle. (campaign only)

These stats are cumulative. To unlock this trophy all you have to do is kill 350 enemies with any rifle (assault rifle) in the game. Spec Ops’ assault rifles are listed below:

    • M4A1 Carbine
    • FAMAS F1
    • SCAR-H w/launcher
    • AK-47

Any combinations of kills with any of the above listed weapons count towards the trophy. You do not have to get 350 kills with any single assault rifle. These weapons are frequently placed throughout the game so you should have no problem finding one. This trophy should come naturally during your quest for the platinum trophy, as you will be playing through the campaign 2+ times.

  • Kill 100 enemies with any pistol or SMG. (campaign only)

These stats are cumulative. To unlock this trophy all you have to do is kill 100 enemies with any of the pistols or SMGs in the game. Spec Ops’ pistols and SMGs are listed below:

    Pistols:

    • M9
    • Desert Eagle

    Submachine guns:

    • UMP45
    • Micro Uzi
    • P90

Any combinations of kills with any of the above listed weapons count towards the trophy. You do not have to get 100 kills with any single pistol or SMG. These weapons are frequently placed throughout the game so you should have no problem finding one. This trophy should come naturally during your quest for the platinum trophy, as you will be playing through the campaign 2+ times.

  • Kill 75 enemies with any shotgun. (campaign only)

These stats are cumulative. To unlock this trophy all you have to do is kill 75 enemies with any shotgun during the campaign. Spec Ops’ shotguns are listed below:

    • AA-12
    • M1014
    • W1300

Note: Even though the AA-12 is technically a shotgun, it's kills count towards the Heavy Arms Trophy.

Any combinations of kills with any of the above listed weapons count towards the trophy. You do not have to get 75 kills with any single shotgun. These weapons are frequently placed throughout the game so you should have no problem finding one. This trophy should come naturally during your quest for the platinum trophy, as you will be playing through the campaign 2+ times.

  • Kill 50 enemies with any sniper rifle. (campaign only)

These stats are cumulative. To unlock this trophy all you have to do is kill 50 enemies with any of the sniper rifles during the campaign. Spec Ops’ sniper rifles are listed below:

    • M-99
    • Scout Tactical

Any combinations of kills with any of the above listed weapons count towards the trophy. You do not have to get 50 kills with any single sniper rifle. These weapons are frequently placed throughout the game so you should have no problem finding one. This trophy should come naturally during your quest for the platinum trophy, as you will be playing through the campaign 2+ times.

  • Kill 150 enemies with any heavy weapon. (campaign only)

These stats are cumulative. To unlock this trophy all you have to do is kill 150 enemies with any of the heavy weapons in the game. In Spec Ops heavy machine guns and launchers (both grenade & rocket) are considered heavy weapons. These weapons include:

    Machine Guns

    • FN M249E2 SAW
    • General Dynamics GAU-17/A
    • M134 Minigun

    Launchers

    • M32 MGL Grenade Launcher
    • RPG-7

Note: Even though the AA-12 is technically a shotgun, it's kills count towards the Heavy Arms Trophy.

Any combinations of kills with any of the above listed weapons count towards the trophy. You do not have to get 150 kills with any single machine gun or launcher. These weapons are frequently placed throughout the game so you should have no problem finding one. In addition to those weapons you will get a chance to wield an unlimited grenade launcher during chapter 10 - Part 2. This trophy should come naturally during your quest for the platinum trophy, as you will be playing through the campaign 2+ times.

  • Kill 50 enemies with grenades. (campaign only)

These stats are cumulative. Grenades are very effective in this game and good strategy dictates they should be used frequently. You should easily unlock this trophy sometime during your two playthroughs. There are only two types of grenades in this game that kill (Frag and Sticky) and they both count towards this trophy. Stun grenades obviously don’t kill, thus don’t count.

  • Kill 250 enemies with headshots. (campaign only)

These stats are cumulative. As the name of the trophy says, aim high. There should be no problem getting this trophy while just playing through the game on your way to the platinum trophy.

  • Hit 10 enemies with your melee attack. (campaign only)

These stats are cumulative. All you have to do to unlock this trophy is to melee attack 10 enemies. To melee an enemy get close to them and press . This should come naturally throughout your playthroughs. Note the trophy description, you don’t have to kill an enemy with the melee attack, you only need hit them with it.

  • Kick an enemy by vaulting over a cover. (campaign only)

Vaulting over cover in this game works similarly to how it works in the Uncharted series (and pretty much every other third-person shooter). You can either take cover at a “chest high wall” by pressing , once you’re in cover and there is an enemy on the other side of your cover point press to vault the cover and kick the enemy. Or you can approach a chest high cover point and press to vault the cover and kick an enemy.

There are not many opportunities during campaign to get this trophy. When you do get an opportunity this move isn’t necessarily practical or particularly smart while playing on the higher difficulty settings, unless you feel like dying and restarting the checkpoint.

But one great place to get this trophy is during chapter 11. After a cut scene you will approach a balcony where your squad is being held captive. As you approach the balcony you’ll see some sand bags and an enemy standing with his back to you. Vault these sand bags by pressing and kick the clueless soldier off the balcony and unlock your trophy.

Or you can use the method FLIPADELPHIIA used in chapter 2.

  • Kill 5 enemies using blind fire. (campaign only)

Self-explanatory and cumulative. Before you can blind fire you must first take cover near any large object or structure by pressing . Once in cover aim your reticule and fire your weapon at a nearby enemy by pressing . You cannot aim down the sites by pressing . Kill five enemies like this and the trophy is yours.

  • Sprint into cover 10 times while under fire. (campaign only)

These stats are cumulative. To sprint into cover press and hold to run towards cover. As you approach the cover point you will automatically dive or slide into cover. Repeat this 10 times over the course of your playthroughs to unlock this trophy. You should get this trophy within the first three chapters.

  • Stun an enemy by dumping sand on their head. (campaign only)

To unlock this trophy you will need to shoot an interactive environmental object or cause an explosion resulting in a “sand avalanche.” You should have no problem unlocking this trophy as there are many opportunities to dump sand on an enemy’s head. Once they have sand in their “you know what” this trophy will unlock.

One confirmed spot to get this is during Chapter 10. While Riggs is unlocking a door you will need to fight off a group of enemies. The rooms you're in has glass ceiling pains. What you need to do is wait for some of the solders to come in, then shoot the glass ceiling. If timed right you will have stunned at least one of the enemies and unlocked this trophy.

  • Blow up 10 explosive objects, killing at least one enemy each time. (campaign only)

These stats are cumulative. This trophy is a tribute to the venerable exploding red barrel. This trophy is pretty self-explanatory, all you need to do is shoot a explosive object like the flammable oxygen tanks, propane tanks, or any other high flammable object. You'll need to do is shoot ten of these flammable objects making sure the resulting explosion kills an enemy. You will find numerous explosive objects throughout the game and should have no problem unlocking this trophy during your two playthroughs.

  • Kill 50 enemies using only the Attack Command. (campaign only)

Spec Ops features SOCOM like squad based commands. Just like in SOCOM you can choose a squad mate and command him to follow specific orders. For this trophy you will need to order your squad mates to kill 50 enemies (cumulatively).

To order a squad mate to kill an enemy, select an enemy by placing your reticule over him, now press and hold down . Your squad mates will target whomever you were targeting when you released the button. It’s not guaranteed that your squad mate will get the kill but there is a high likelihood of that happening. This trophy should come naturally throughout your two playthroughs and subsequent clean up. Liberal use of the command squad button is a great strategy for your FUBAR playthrough.

  • Kill 4 enemies with a shotgun in 10 seconds or less. (campaign only)

To unlock this trophy all you have to do is kill four enemies with any shotgun within 10 seconds. The shotguns in Spec Ops act closer to their real life counterparts (they are most effective in close quarters) than in Max Payne 3 other games where they can be used as sniper rifles.

There are various opportunities to get this trophy during the campaign. But there is a very easy and quick opportunity to get it during chapter 4. About half way into the chapter you will rappel down to a CIA bunker. Just to the left of where you rappel down you find the second Intel on a desk. Directly in front of that desk will be two (2) enemies behind a little nook. Kill them with a shotty then turn around and kill the two (2) other enemies in the room.

Or you can use PowerPyx's chapter 6 method provided in his video is below

  • Kill 10 enemies while they use zip lines or are rappelling. (campaign only)

These stats are cumulative. To get this trophy you mush shoot and kill an enemy while they are rappelling or zip lining. I would venture to say that you will see close to 200 enemies zip line or rappel down from various structures. But for the most part it will be counterproductive to focus on these enemies because they are quick moving and you should be focusing on more immediate threats.

I would suggest you grind these kills out in chapter 5 so you won’t have to worry about them moving forward through the game. Towards the end of chapter 5 you will fall down a crevice and fight a large amount of enemies. This is the same area where you are first introduced to the Edged Weapon Expert (See Damn Close for more details). After killing two of those CQC experts and moving into the big room take cover at the pillar directly in front of you right next to the grenades pick up. From this position you can easily kill 4-8 rappelling enemies that will rappel directly in front of and above you. Kill as many of the rappelling enemies as you can and then let yourself die or restart checkpoint and repeat this process until you get the trophy.

  • Kill an Edged Weapon Expert while he is up to 5 meters away. (campaign only)

Edged Weapon Experts are kamikaze enemies who sprint at you with melee weapons. Most times when they appear they will get within five meters of you regardless of if you want them to or not. You will fight a ton of these guys throughout your two playthroughs so you should have no problem getting this trophy easily. I’m sure you will get it in chapter 5 when you are first introduced to these CQC experts.

If you need additional information or just prefer visual aids then refer to FLIPADELPHIIA’s video below.

  • Kill 3 enemies with a single grenade. (campaign only)

To unlock this trophy you just kill three (3) enemies with a single grenade. Grenades in this game are phenomenal and enemies tend to group up a lot. There are literally countless occasions throughout the game you will get a chance to do this.

Note: If for some reason you think you blew (no pun intended) a perfect opportunity to get this trophy then reload the checkpoint and try again with explosive results (pun intended).

Or you can use PowerPyx's chapter 2 method provided in his video is below

  • Kill an enemy just as they are throwing a grenade. (campaign only)

To unlock this trophy you need to shoot an enemy who is about to throw a grenade at you. Your shots must kill him for this trophy to unlock. This trophy is very simple. During one of the many firefights you get into look for an enemy who is about to throw a grenade at you and shoot him. If you shot the enemy while his arm was reared back and obviously before he threw the grenade, then he would have died and dropped the grenade causing an explosion.

If you need additional information or just prefer visual aids then refer to FLIPADELPHIIA’s video below.

  • Kill an enemy by tagging him with a sticky grenade. (campaign only)

To unlock this trophy you need to tag an enemy with a sticky grenade. A sticky grenade is exactly what it sounds like; this must be “Saving Private Ryan” reference (sticky bomb?). To Throw a sticky grenade you must first select it with the either or on the D-pad. Once you have the "center" grenade selected lock onto an enemy by pressing and holding , release to throw the grenade. You won’t get a chance to use these sticky grenades until chapter 6, but during that chapter and onwards there are countless amounts of times you’ll get a chance to do this. Once you achieve this “sticky” kill the trophy will pop.

If you need additional information or just prefer visual aids then refer to FLIPADELPHIIA’s video below.

  • Complete three chapters in a row without being killed or reloading a checkpoint.

Unless you have superior luck and the shooting skills of a God then you more than likely will not get this trophy during your "hard" or "very hard" playthroughs. So, after you have finished your hard mode playthroughs load up the game from the first chapter on "Walk on the Beach" difficulty and carefully make your way through the first three chapters. By now you should understand the game and how to avoid pointless deaths; this trophy should cause you no problems especially on this easiest difficulty setting.

If needed you should combine this step with the trophy All You Can Be.

  • Complete any chapter with 60%+ accuracy without dying or reloading a checkpoint.

Unless you are a master marksman this is another trophy probably won’t get during your two playthroughs. Again, after your playthroughs (and with the tons of aiming experience you have gathered thus far) load up the game from the first chapter on "Walk on the Beach" difficulty. Take your time and carefully fire your weapon at the enemies, use semi-automatic weapons when available. Finally make sure you are using your squad commands as much as possible so your teammates are doing most of the shooting and killing. This trophy will pop after the chapter finishes.

  • Kill an oryx. (campaign only)

To unlock this trophy all you have to do is upset PETA and for no real reason kill an Oryx. An Oryx is a large Antelope. You’ll have your chance to play Cabela’s Big Game Hunter right at the beginning of Chapter 1. You will come to a section where they want you to rappel down a cliff, but don’t rappel yet, first look to your right and over the edge. You’ll see a peaceful family of Oryx minding their own business; your objective is to murder one of these magnificent creatures. Pick out an innocent Oryx, shoot it and the trophy is yours.

There are a total of 23 Intel items located throughout the game’s 15 chapters. Not all Intel items look the same; the type of Intel you pick up varies from clipboards, to cassette tapes, to bags both large and small. Once an Intel item is picked up the game auto saves so if you die you don’t have to pick up the Intel again.
