Introduction:

To platinum this game in one playthrough it'll require you to focus on all the collectibles (chests) as well as missable trophies. To ensure you don’t miss any chests, or overshoot an ideal spot for one of the missable trophies, it will require a considerable amount of saving. This game features a manual save option, and you can save at any time whilst playing. However, loading a save will place you at the most recent waypoint (autosave). You will know when you have reached a new waypoint by the blinking “Saving…” icon in the upper left-hand corner of your screen. It is recommended to either save every 2-3 chests you open, or you can even save at each waypoint. Each time you save it logs your current in game location in the save details which you can see in the load save screen. All collectibles and missable trophies are listed by their in game location, so making use of this feature is suggested.

Walkthrough:

Step 1Play through the story to unlock all story related trophies
Before playing the game there are a few things you should take note of. First, it’s possible to platinum the game in one playthrough given you don’t drink any health potions (see Dehydrated) and open all one-hundred chests (please refer to It’s Mine, All Mine!). Secondly, since difficulty doesn’t affect trophy unlocks, I highly recommend playing on Apprentice (lowest) difficulty. You can choose the difficulty when starting a new game; at the difficulty selection screen select Apprentice. Basic tips for playing through the game:

  • Most trophies in this guide have a location listed. To view your current location, manually save then choose to load a game and look at your most recent save – the location will be listed.
  • You can avoid attacks by either blocking with your shield or dodging.
  • To remove shields from enemies, either shield bash or hit them twice with Ice bolt.
  • Some enemies are resistant to certain types of magic so switch to another type if you are only dealing little to no damage.
  • Earth, Ice, Fire, and Lightning magics have a limited number of casts before you must wait for your mana to regenerate, so don’t cast spells with these types too quickly.

To avoid playing a complete second playthrough, do not drink a health potion for Dehydrated. If at any given point you accidentally drink one, you can load the most recent manual save prior to drinking and still earn the trophy. To further reduce the platinum time, open every chest in the game without missing one. I highly recommend taking advantage of this amazing collectible guide written by Wozamil: Sorcery Collectible Treasure Chest Guide.

In the collectible guide, chests listed as ‘chest’ contain a random alchemy ingredient depending on your location and/or gold coins. If you pass a chest location, the game will put up an invisible wall behind you that will prevent you from walking back to open a chest. To ensure that you don’t miss all the chests, manually save often. This way, if you miss a chest you can go back and get it by simply reloading your most recent manual save. Keep in mind that when loading a save you will not start at the exact spot you saved – instead the game takes you back to the most recent waypoint (checkpoint) at the time of saving. Similarly, if you die it takes you back to the most recent waypoint. This means you will need to collect all chests after the waypoint; both missed and previously collected chests from that point forward.

The remaining miscellaneous trophies aren't too difficult, and while quite a few can be earned at any given time, most of them have ideal locations. Below is a list of the missable trophies in the order earned based on earliest/best location:

  • The Tower
    • Makin’ Bacon – Dash’s Departure
  • Lochbarrow
    • Shooting Blind – The Shattered Bridge
    • Let’s Get Physical – The Shieldbearer’s Tomb
    • Bank Shot – The Ancient Mausoleum
    • The Old One-Two – The Ancient Mausoleum
    • Quit Hitting Yourself – Banshee
  • Endless Stairs
    • Finish Him Already – Ice Shrine
    • Shattered – Crossroads
    • Like a Rat in a Trap – The Catacombs
    • Ice to Meet You – Valley of the Winds
    • Booty Hunter – Fire Shrine*
  • The Faerie Forest
    • Spider-nado – The First Star
    • Burniated – The First Star
    • Master of Ice – Waterfall Glade (if following trophy strategy)
    • 1.21 Gigawatts – The Lightning Garden
    • The Miser – Interlude with Sheep (if following trophy strategy)
    • Zapped – Interlude with Sheep
    • Fire & Ice – Interlude with Sheep
    • Master of Fire – Sylph Ambush (if following trophy strategy)
    • Full Spice Rack – Forest Chasm*
    • The Potions Master – Forest Chasm*
  • The Slumbering Palace
    • The Collector – Treasure Room*
    • It’s Mine, All Mine! – The Great Tower*
    • She’s Just Not That Into You (Boss Fight Related)
    • Take that! And that! – The Great Tower
    • Dehydrated – The Great Tower

(* = if no chests were missed up to this point)

Step 2 – Miscellaneous trophy clean up
As long as you finished the first playthrough without drinking a health potion and opened every chest, you will not have to play a second time through as long as you created many manual saves. To get one of the miscellaneous trophies, all you have to do is load the closest save prior to the best location for the trophy you are after.

34 trophies ( 11  18  7  )

  • Collect all the other trophies in the game

  • Kill an enemy with a double ricochet

Missable. You encounter a ricochet when you fire a bolt at an enemy wielding a shield. The bolt will bounce off the shield, and has a chance of hitting any defenseless enemies nearby. For this trophy, you need to kill an enemy with a bolt that has bounced off of two shields. The earliest you can attempt this trophy is in The Ancient Mausoleum section of Lochbarrow when you first come up against three enemies wielding shields. I recommend making a manual save so that if you fail you can load the save and try again. You will need to remove one enemy’s shield with shield bash ( + ), then hit either of the shield-wielding enemies with Arcane Bolt. It will take at least three hits to kill the defenseless enemy, and the killing blow must have been from a double ricochet.

Note: This is also a good location to earn The Old One-Two.

  • Kill an enemy that you can't see with curved bolt

Missable. This is a relatively easy trophy for which you have to kill an enemy not in your line of sight (i.e. not visible on screen) with a curved bolt. Please note that only Arcane magic can fire curved bolts. The earliest this trophy can be obtained is in The Shattered Bridge section of Lochbarrow. Early on into the section you will come upon a room where the floor has caved in, and pillars lie on each ‘island’. Enemies wielding bows will appear and proceed to hide behind the pillars and then fire at you. I recommend making a manual save so that if you fail you can load the save and try again. Target one and while they are out of your sight fire some curved bolts (flick the motion controller left/right) their way. If the enemy dies while out of your line of sight, the trophy should pop. I personally fired a curved bolt at an enemy not completely behind a pillar, and as the killing bolt hit I moved to where he was out of my sight.

  • Take damage from a reflected arcane bolt

Missable. The earliest this trophy can be obtained is during the Banshee boss fight in the Banshee section of Lochbarrow. While the Banshee’s health meter is gray as opposed to red, Arcane bolts do no damage and are instead reflected back. Simply reflect bolts back until one hits you.

  • Kill an enemy with shield bash

Missable. Another easy trophy. To perform shield bash, press ( + ). The earliest you can obtain this trophy is in The Shieldbearer's Tomb section of Lochbarrow right after finding the shield. Simply use shield bash on the next enemy within your reach until they die and the trophy will pop.

  • Shatter 3 enemies with one hit

Missable. This trophy proved a bit tedious. For this trophy you have to first encase three enemies in ice by hitting them each three times with Ice magic, then use Heroic Strike ( + down motion) to shatter all three simultaneously. The earliest you can obtain this trophy is in the Crossroads section of Endless Stair after you learn Ice magic. You will come upon a teleporter that requires mending to pass through, and encounter a Fire Shaman Bogey for the first time. I recommend making a manual save so that if you fail you can load the save and try again. After defeating the Fire Shaman Bogey, more Bogeys will appear. Wait until only three are on the ground near you to attempt this. Unlike Arcane magic, Ice magic has a limited number of casts before you have to wait for your mana to replenish. You will need to hit all three enemies three times, while going back to hit each one again to make sure they don’t shatter prematurely. Continue hitting each one in turn until you can use Heroic Strike, and then use it to shatter all three enemies. If none shattered on their own whilst you used Heroic Strike, the trophy will pop.

  • Freeze yourself with a reflected ice bolt

Missable. This is another easy trophy, and can be obtained in the Valley of the Winds section of Endless Stairs. When first entering the area, you will encounter some Bogeys, some of which are Ice Shaman Bogeys. For this trophy, simply hit an Ice Shaman Bogey with Ice bolt until the bolt is reflected back to you and the “Shake Controller Left/Right” prompt for breaking out of ice appears.

  • Pick up 5 spiders with a whirlwind

Missable. This is an easy trophy, apart from only being able to do it in a handful of locations. For this trophy you will need to cast a whirlwind spell (Wind magic) on a group of spiders larger than five. The earliest you can obtain this trophy is in The First Star section of The Faerie Forest when you first encounter spiders. I recommend making a manual save so that if you fail you can load the save and try again. The first group you encounter contains only four, so kill those but refrain from killing anymore. Head out into the larger area and keep moving around as more and more spiders cluster together while chasing you; there are a total of ten spiders in this second group. Once a majority have clustered together, cast whirlwind with Wind magic (flick the motion controller left/right). If done correctly, a majority of the group will be trapped in the whirlwind and the trophy should pop.

Note: This is a good time to get Burninated; please refer to that trophy for further details.

  • Execute the fire/wind/arcane combo

This is story/puzzle related but can be obtained earlier. By the trophy’s description one might think they need to have Fire, Wind, and Arcane magic learned but indeed that is not the case. In fact, this trophy can be earned in the same spot as Ice to Meet You. In that first wide area of The Valley of Winds section of Endless Stairs there are some fires as well as whirlwind ‘geysers’. To get the trophy you must shoot an Arcane bolt through one of the fires and into a whirlwind geyser while a whirlwind is shooting out. For time’s sake, I suggest doing this right as a whirlwind pops up to give yourself enough time. If done correctly, the whirlwind should catch fire and all you need to do is hit it again with a regular Arcane bolt a few times and the trophy should pop.

Earning it by solving the story-related puzzle:

In case you didn’t get the trophy at the aforementioned spot, you create another such combo as part of obtaining the Fire Nexus later on in The Fire Shrine area of Endless Stairs by casting a whirlwind spell using Wind magic (flicking the motion controller left/right) near a fire then first hitting it with Arcane bolts shot through the fire, and lastly shot by regular Arcane bolts.

  • Kill 4 sylphs with one lightning bolt

Missable. There are many opportunities to earn this trophy, but the earliest place is right after learning Lightning magic. After passing the alchemist in the Interlude with Sheep section of The Faerie Forest and blasting/burning your way through a passage blocked by three trees, you’ll enter an area infested with regular, ice, and fire sylphs. I recommend making a manual save so that if you fail you can load the save and try again. If you want, some of the trees the sylphs hide behind can be destroyed by fire or lightning, and will force the sylphs to hide behind other trees thus ‘herding’ them. There are many ways to do this, but the surefire way is to destroy a tree or two then when at least four are close together cast a whirlwind spell using Wind magic (flick the motion controller left/right) and while they’re caught in the whirlwind zap them with a lightning bolt. If done correctly this will land you both the Zapped and Fire & Ice trophies.

  • Kill a fire sylph and an ice sylph with a lightning storm

Missable. I recommend using the strategy mentioned above in Zapped to unlock this trophy. At least two of the sylphs caught in the whirlwind should be fire and ice, so just hit the whirlwind with a lightning bolt to turn it into a lighting storm; killing all four sylphs simultaneously. If you don’t get it the first time, you can kill off a few of the regular sylphs before casting a whirlwind spell using Wind magic (flick the motion controller left/right) to ensure at least one of fire and ice are caught inside.

  • Hit an enemy with arcane, ice, wind, fire, and lightning

Missable. If an enemy reflects the damage, it will not count towards the trophy as a ‘hit’. Because of this, any boss with a gray health bar won’t work. I recommend going for this trophy during the Nightmare Queen Boss fight in The Great Tower section of The Slumbering Palace. Once the fight starts, just hit her with Arcane, Lightning, Ice, and Wind, then create a Fire Tornado by creating a Fire Wall and creating a Tornado on top of it; shoot off Arcane bolts through the Fire Tornado to hit her with Fire. A video strategy by Wozamil can be seen below:

  • Change every sheep at the tower into a pig

Missable. This trophy can only be obtained during the Dash's Departure section of The Tower (Prologue). After first grabbing the wand and going through a ‘tutorial’ you will then head outside the tower. Outside you will see some sheep. By hitting a sheep with an Arcane bolt, it will turn the sheep into either a pig or a rat. If one gets turned into the latter, simply hit it again to turn it into a pig. None of the sheep are easy to miss, and the last sheep can be found after performing a telekinesis spell on the fallen rock blocking the path. If you turned every sheep into a pig up to that point, turning that one should land you the trophy.

  • Hit an enemy simultaneously with a curved bolt and a straight bolt

Missable. I recommend going for this trophy in the same location as Bank Shot. Instead of performing shield bash on one of the three shield bearing enemies in The Ancient Mausoleum section of Lochbarrow, start hitting the group with a flurry of attacks. As you play around with firing curved vs straight bolts, you will learn a simple fluid motion to perform both in rapid succession. Since the curved bolt is slower, first fire off a curved bolt (flick the motion controller left/right) then continuing the motion fire off a straight bolt (flick the motion controller forward). When done correctly (this will take multiple attempts, hence the flurry suggestion) the trophy will pop.

  • Keep an enemy chilled for 20 seconds

Missable. This can be done at any location after learning Ice magic, but I personally earned this trophy in the Ice Shrine section of Endless Stairs. To freeze an enemy you need to hit them three times with Ice bolt. To keep them frozen, simply keep hitting them to maintain the frozen state. Keep in mind that use of Ice magic is limited (as shown on the mana bar in game) so feel free to wait a second before firing again to let your mana regenerate. I recommend doing this against a lone enemy so you don’t have to worry about 1) a second enemy attacking you and 2) the game auto-locking on to the second enemy thus making it difficult to keep the first enemy frozen. Once the 20 seconds are up the trophy should pop. Alternatively, this trophy might be obtained while going for Shattered.

  • Set 7 enemies on fire at the same time

Missable. I highly recommend going for this trophy in conjunction with Spider-nado as it is one of the few rare occasions where enough enemies are in the same location. After following the strategy for Spider-nado and having put at least seven spiders into a whirlwind, quickly switch to Fire magic and continually cast fire bolt on the whirlwind until, as well as after, it catches fire. If done correctly the trophy should pop.

  • Cast lightning trap, lightning storm, and lightning bolt simultaneously

Missable. I personally unlocked this trophy in the Lightning Shrine section of The Faerie Forest using this strategy by Wozamil: You can get this as soon as you learn the lightning spell. It doesn't require you to kill anyone so just mess around with the spells with no enemies around until it unlocks. I got this by building a trap which you create by flicking left or right with the lightning spell, then whirlwind the same way, and finished by shooting lightning bolts into the whirlwind by flicking forward.

  • Open 50% of the chests in the game

Missable. Please refer to It’s Mine, All Mine!

  • Research every potion in the game

Missable. Once you have unlocked Full Spice Rack, press to open up the alchemy menu. Hit or until you are in the ingredients section, then select an ingredient by hitting then select two more and hit again to research a potion. Repeat this for all eight ingredients (sixty-four total combinations/potions) and the trophy will pop.

  • Find every ingredient in the game

Missable. Please refer to It’s Mine, All Mine!

  • Die while you're a rat

Missable. You first turn into a rat in The Catacombs section of Lochbarrow (return) after going through a teleporter from the Crossroads section of Endless Stairs. Immediately after transforming into a rat for the third time, Erline will warn you to stay out of acid dripping down onto your path. Walk into the acid while it drips to be dealt some damage. The recoil of being hit will knock you back so you will need to walk into the acid repeatedly until you die. While the game is loading the last save point the trophy will pop.

  • Accumulate 20,000 gold

Missable. This can be done at any time after entering the Faerie Forest given you have 1) opened all the chests up to that point and 2) haven’t spent much money buying things from the alchemist. To get this trophy, you must first reach an alchemist. There are alchemists in The First Star, Interlude with Sheep, Forest Ruins, and The Sky Shrine sections of The Faerie Forest. Once you have reached an alchemist, make a manual save and then sell him things until you reach 20,000 gold. The trophy will pop after you back out of the alchemist trading menu (staying in the menu does not register you as having obtained 20,000 gold). I personally did this at the alchemist in Interlude with Sheep and sold all my treasure/alchemy ingredients for roughly 27,000. For a surefire method, if you’ve opened all the chests you can just sell all your treasures to the very last alchemist in The Throne Room section of The Slumbering Palace before the final boss battle.

  • 150 kills with ice

Missable. It’s possible to earn this naturally by just playing through the game, but if you’re worried or just want the trophy over with then I recommend using Ice spells exclusively until it pops (barring resistant enemies). Following this method I unlocked the trophy somewhere in the Waterfall Glade section of The Faerie Forest. Alternatively, refer to the strategy for Master of Fire below.

  • 150 kills with fire

Missable. Using the same method mentioned in Master of Ice, if you start using Fire exclusively after unlocking Master of Ice, the trophy will pop sometime near the end of The Faerie Forest or early on in The Slumbering Palace. I personally unlocked the trophy in the Sylph Ambush section of The Faerie Forest.

If you find yourself having trouble getting kills, you can use the following strategy by Mendel:

During the Corrupt Forest Guardian fight in the Corrupt Guardian section of The Faerie Forest, the Corrupt Forest Guardian will infinitely spawn spiders. So long as you don't defeat the boss, you can rack up all required kills for both the Master of Ice and Master of Fire trophies.

  • Open every chest in the game

Missable. For this trophy you must open all one-hundred chests in the game. These chests can contain treasure, alchemy ingredients, and gold coins. The fiftieth chest is located in the Fire Shrine section of Endless Stairs. You find the last alchemy ingredient for Full Spice Rack in the Forest Chasm section of The Faerie Forest, and the last treasure in the Treasure Room section of The Slumbering Palace. For all chest locations, please refer to Wozamil’s Sorcery Treasure Chest Collectible Guide

  • Collect every treasure in the game

Missable. Please refer to It’s Mine, All Mine!

  • Beat the game without drinking a single health potion

Missable. To unlock this trophy, simply go through the entire game without drinking a health potion. You drink a health potion by pressing (), so you can still pick up health potions and sell them to the alchemist without risking the trophy. If at any point you accidentally drink a health potion, you can load up a previous save and the game will not register you as having drunk a potion. In lieu of drinking health potions, should you die you will revert to the last waypoint with full health. This is extremely useful for boss battles should you be low on health when entering. Also, by researching potions using alchemy ingredients you can increase your health bar; once you have found all eight alchemy ingredients you can max your health as well as research a potion which gives you the ability to slowly regenerate health. For those going for the platinum in one playthrough, this trophy does not pop in conjunction with Dark Victory and instead will pop midway through the climb up the will-o-wisp light bridge after you regain control of Finn at the very end of the game.

Secret trophies

  • Kill the Banshee

This is story related and cannot be missed. To earn this trophy you must defeat the Banshee, which is the first boss of the game located in the Banshee section of Lochbarrow.

When the fight starts, the Banshee’s health bar will be gray meaning you cannot deal damage. After a moment the banshee should drop down and charge you so dodge roll ( while moving) left or right. Immediately after charging, the banshee will be vulnerable for damage momentarily giving you enough time to land 2-3 well-placed hits. When her health is roughly half depleted she will change tunes and start summoning enemies and firing projectiles at you. At this point she is entirely vulnerable and once her health is done to one quarter or so she will stop summoning enemies and change tunes once again. In this third stage, she will traipse about then drop down and launch a beam at you. Right before (and during) launching the beam she will be vulnerable so land an attack or two before either blocking the beam with your shield () or dodging in an attempt to land another hit before doing the former.

  • Kill the Troll in Ordale

This is story related and cannot be missed. To earn this trophy you must defeat the Ice Troll boss found in The Ice Troll section of Ordale.

At the beginning of the fight there are a few fires laid about. When the fight starts the troll will slowly charge, and you will want to hit the boss by shooting Arcane bolts through one of the fires. Once the troll’s health has significantly decreased, the troll will change tunes and retreat to right below and in front of a crumbling tower to begin tossing town rubble at you. At the same time, Bogeys will start appearing for you to deal with simultaneously. For this part you will need to doge the troll’s rubble while taking down Bogeys until your Heroic Strike meter is full. Once you can perform Heroic Strike, charge to directly below the troll and perform the attack ( + downward motion). The attack will not damage the troll, but a cutscene will show the crumbling tower move. You will need to repeat this process two times until the tower completely crumbles and crushes the troll.

  • Kill the Elf Assassin

This is story related and cannot be missed. To earn this trophy you must defeat the Elf Assassin boss found in The Foresting Door section of Endless Stairs.

(Note: I found this to be the easiest of the boss battles) Fire spells are the most effective against the Elf, and when he goes invisible you can use wind magic to make him reappear. After his health goes down a bit he will summon waves of Elf assassins, which go down just as easily – I personally used Ice magic to freeze them and shield bash to shatter them. In between waves the Elf will reappear giving you a chance to deal more damage. Rinse and repeat until defeated.

  • Kill the Forest Guardian

This is story related and cannot be missed. To earn this trophy you must defeat the Forest Guardian found in the Corrupt Guardian section of The Faerie Forest.

Starting off the Forest Guardian is encased in purple flame and cannot be damaged. His attacks include stomping, throwing ice, and summoning spiders while stomping (if spiders are no longer present). The spiders make are merely a nuisance when aiming for the Tree Guardian, but try to ignore them as best you can and focus on freezing sections of the Forest Guardian’s body. The sections include left and right arms and legs, and his head. Once you have hit a section of his body with Ice bolt three times, switch to Arcane and hit it with Arcane bolt to shatter the ice and permanently removing the fire from that section. Once you have removed the fire from all five sections, switch to Lightning magic to deal serious damage.

  • Repair the sky

This is story related and cannot be missed.

To earn this trophy you must align the seven stars, thus repairing the sky. The stars must be aligned into a circular pattern with lines connecting all seven.

  • Killed by Erline

Missable. This is story related but can be missed. I recommend going for this after unlocking Take That! And That! To earn this trophy you must let Dark Erline kill you during the Dark Erline boss fight in The Great Tower section of The Slumbering Palace. On top of Dark Erline, an Elf Assassin will be attacking you so take care to dodge his attacks. The easiest way to die is by standing in the circles Dark Erline places on the floor.

  • Kill the Nightmare Queen

This is story related and cannot be missed. To earn this trophy you must defeat both Dark Erline and the Nightmare Queen bosses found in The Great Tower section of The Slumbering Palace.

Starting with Dark Erline dodge the Elf Assassin’s attacks while avoiding walking into the circles Dark Erline places on the floor. Once Dark Erline has placed a circle on the floor, position yourself to where she is between you and the circle, then use wind magic to push her into the circle. This deals considerable damage and on Apprentice difficulty you only need to perform this step twice to end the battle.

Once Dark Erline is defeated the Nightmare Queen fight starts with her floating above the platform while attacking you with both tentacles and the magic circles Dark Erline used. While dodging both attacks, use lightning bolts to bring her health down and once it’s down far enough she will grab you with the tentacles. After following the “Shake Controller Left/Right” prompt to break free of the tentacles you will momentarily gain control over them so quickly dish out more damage before she hides herself in the tentacles (like a cocoon) and regenerates her health. While she is regenerating health, more Elf assassins will appear – lightning magic takes them down fairly quckly. Once her health is back up she resumes her assault and her health turns vulnerable again. Repeat the first strategy of lightning bolts while dodging both tentacles and circles with the addition of fending off Elf assassins. Once her health reaches the halfway point you will start a prompt to ‘pull’ the Nightmare Nexus from her. You then gain Nightmare magic which deals some serious damage. Continue avoiding attacks while dealing damage until she’s defeated.
