Introduction:
Ricochet HD is a Breakout clone by Reflexive Entertainment that offers a highly stylised version of brick breaking. Unlike your traditional Breakout clones like Arkanoid or Alleyway, Ricochet is unique in that it offers a great variety of power-ups to pick up and ships to pilot across many very uniquely-designed levels in very atmospheric environments. The trophies for Ricochet HD range from the traditional "beat the game" trophies, to the obligatory collectable trophies (which come in the form of Gold Rings) and unique yet tedious trophies that have you completing 30 levels consecutively without dying. It is not an easy game to get 100% in and the glitches in four of the trophies certainly do not help with this fact.

Before you start - Glitched Trophies:
In its current state two trophies in Ricochet HD are horribly glitched i.e "World Cup" and "Co-op Cup", which are for finishing all 15 planets in general and in Cooperative mode, respectively. For some players these unlock as they should but in most cases, you won't unlock them upon finishing all the planets. Some players have reported them unlocking from doing all 15 planets a second time, whilst some have reported them unlocking upon getting all 750 Gold Rings for "Ring Trophy" whilst in Cooperative mode. Don't worry if these don't unlock when they should, as chances are they will unlock upon collecting all of the Gold Rings. If you're lucky like some players, one or both of the trophies will unlock upon replaying the last level. However, do be warned that in rare circumstances, this won't be the case. The only apparent fix from that point is to delete your Save Data and redo the whole thing in one sitting. A third trophy, in the form of "Power-up Zen Master", is also glitched but not nearly to the extent as the previous two. For this you have to complete more than 10 levels without picking up any power-ups, like it says in the description. The last glitched trophy, "Straight Jacket", is similar to the previous in that it may not unlock upon completing 10 levels on the same planet on Insane. It may take multiple attempts to actually register. You have been warned!

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Complete the game in Cooperative mode
First things first. You will want to start a game on Cooperative mode (cycle through modes with ) and set the difficulty to Kids, though you can do it on Normal and attempt to get "Longevity" and "Amazing Breath of Life" while doing the co-op run. You'll need a second controller to do this, but not necessarily a second player - you can simply move the second player to the side of the level and simply play solo. Keep in mind that for "Helping Hand", you must complete 20 levels in one session, so make sure you do at least 2 planets in one sitting. While doing this playthrough, make sure to collect as many Gold Rings as possible, if not all of them, to save yourself trouble later.

Upon completing Step 1, you should earn:

Helping Hand
Co-op Cup

You may also earn:

Brick Shooter
Frantic Juggler
Power Rush
Hoard of the Rings
Power-up Zen Master

Step 2: Complete 30 levels in a row without dying once
Next up is completing 30 levels without dying. Unlike in Step 1 this must be done on Normal difficulty or higher, so no Kids or Easy difficulty here. It counts as dying when all your balls enter the Out of Bounds zone below you, which will take away one Ion Sphere from your total. Luckily there is a good workaround for these trophies i.e Cooperative mode. Having a second player in the game sitting there without using its ball means that if you lose your ball, you won't lose a life. That way you can either use Player Two's ball and continue or simply restart the level, this way you don't have to start from scratch. It is recommended that for these trophies you do the first three planets: Morana, Barrakis and Europa.

Upon completing Step 2, you will earn:

Longevity
Amazing Breath of Life

Step 3: Complete 10 levels on Insane difficulty
The same principle in Step 2 applies here. Use a second controller to have an extra ball, as that will offer you a safety net so to speak. This must be done on Insane difficulty, though you can die for this trophy - you just can't lose all your Ion Spheres and get a Game Over. The easiest planet for this trophy would be the second planet: Barrakis.

Upon completing Step 3, you will earn:

Straight Jacket

Step 4: Collect all Gold Rings/Clean up
Lastly, there's the clean up. If during the first few steps you managed to miss any Gold Rings or any of the miscellaneous trophies, then now is the time to get them.

Upon completing Step 4, you will earn:

Ring Trophy

If not earned during earlier steps, you will also earn:

Brick Shooter
Frantic Juggler
Power Rush
Hoard of the Rings
Power-up Zen Master

12 trophies ( 2  )

  • Shoot 100 bricks with a laser, blaster or missile.

Some of the power-ups in the game will add weapons to your ship, which you can use with . Using any combination of these weapons, destroy 100 bricks by shooting them. This is cumulative so therefore does not need to be done in one sitting.

  • Keep at least 3 balls on the screen at the same time for more than 8 seconds.

Chances are you'll get this without even trying. Certain power-ups (and some special blocks), namely 3 Way Ball Split, 8 Way Ball Split and Ball Generator Ball will all allow you to get multiple balls on screen. Once you've got at least 3 balls on screen, simply keep them airborne for 8 seconds - there's no trick to this, just stay near the balls and use and to boost if necessary.

  • Earned when the player has caught 25 power-ups in the game.

As with "Brick Shooter" this is cumulative and can be gotten over multiple sessions. Simply pick up power-ups as you see them and you'll have this trophy well before you finish all the planets.

  • No power-ups collected for 10 levels in a row. This can carry over between planets.

    Glitched.

While playing through the planets, avoid all power-ups that drop and complete 10 levels. To make things easier do it in Single player, so you won't have to manoeuvre two players away from power-ups. This is very simple on Planet 2: Barrakis, however, this trophy is also glitched and may not unlock after 10 levels. Just keep going until it unlocks, it shouldn't be too much past 10 levels when it does.

When I did this it unlocked after completing 12 levels without a power-up.

  • 8 levels in a row player on the same planet without dying once. Cannot be earned on Easy or Kids difficulty settings.

This is best done on Planet 2: Barrakis on Normal difficulty.

Unfortunately the Second Player safety net does not seem to work for this trophy, so you must do so without losing a single Ion Sphere. All I can say is avoid dangerous power-ups (indicated by a red background as opposed to green, yellow or blue) like the plague and to take caution with where you shoot.

  • 30 levels in a row played without dying once. This carries over from one Planet to the next. Cannot be earned on Easy or Kids difficulty settings.

This is best done across the first three planets: Morana, Barrakis and Europa on Normal difficulty.

Using a second controller in Cooperative mode you can have Player Two be a back-up ball if you lose your own, as with two players, both balls will need to be lost in order for it to count as dying. Whenever you lose your own ball either use Player Two for a second chance or simply restart the level, so you won't have to start from scratch. Avoid all dangerous power-ups (indicated by a red background as opposed to green, yellow or blue), use and to boost your ship if you need to reach the ball quickly and think ahead - don't rush in without thinking about how to complete the level first.

  • Beat 10 different levels on the Insane difficulty setting in a single game on the same planet.

    Glitched.

As with "Longevity" this is best done on Planet 2: Barrakis but it must be on Insane difficulty. On Insane difficulty, your ball will be small by default, you won't have a Safety Bumper, you'll have less Ion Spheres (lives) and power-ups will be infrequent. Using the Second Player technique you can stay alive relatively well, as long as you know what you're doing. Once again avoid dangerous power-ups (indicated by a red background as opposed to green, yellow or blue) and use and to boost where necessary. Unlike "Longevity" and "Amazing Breath of Life" you can die during this trophy, you just cannot lose all your lives and get a Game Over. This trophy is glitched and may not unlock upon completing the necessary levels.

This unlocked for me on Normal difficulty after doing 10 levels on Insane without it unlocking. If you finish 10 levels on Insane without it unlocking, try doing it on Normal to see if it will register.

  • Awarded for finishing all Ricochet HD planets.

    Glitched.

In order to unlock this you need to finish all 10 levels on all 15 planets on any mode I recommend doing this in conjunction with "Co-op Cup" to avoid having to do an extra playthrough. This trophy is glitched and may not unlock upon completing all levels, though it should unlock upon getting all 750 Gold Rings. It may also unlock by replaying the last level on Single player. Read the Glitched Trophies section in the Road Map for more details.

For me this trophy unlocked upon finishing the last level after reaching 700 Gold Rings. Due to this there may be a minimum number of rings (that being 700) for the game to consider it finished.

  • Beat 20 levels with two players at the same time in any multi-player mode.

In order to unlock this, you must complete 20 consecutive levels in one session in either Cooperative mode or Tail Gunner mode. Essentially a precursor to "Co-op Cup", except all levels must be done in one go.

  • Collect all 5 of the golden rings on all 10 levels of the same planet in a single game.

As you are playing through the levels, there'll be 5 Gold Rings hidden throughout every level. To unlock this trophy you must collect all 50 Gold Rings on one planet in one go, so you cannot miss any. You may get this through natural progression but if not, one of the earlier planets are best. Focus on getting the Gold Rings and make sure you have them all before you destroy the last block.

Secret trophies

  • Awarded for completing all level sets in Cooperative mode.

    Glitched.

Choose Cooperative mode from the menu (cycle through modes with ) and complete all 10 levels on all 15 planets with two players. You don't need a second player per se, just a second controller - you can easily leave the second ship sitting there, or control both yourself. The trophy is glitched and it may not unlock upon completing all levels, though it should unlock upon getting all 750 Gold Rings (assuming you collect the Gold Rings in Cooperative mode). You may have to do it all in one session due to the glitch. Read the Glitched Trophies section in the Road Map for more details.

  • Awarded for collecting all of the gold rings in all Ricochet HD planets.

There are 5 Gold Rings per level, with 50 Gold Rings per planet for a grand total of 750 Gold Rings. Simply collect all of them in any order, on any difficulty in any mode to unlock this. Do note that some rings on certain levels will require a certain power-up to gain access to, whilst some will require you to be on Hard/Insane difficulty to gain access to. If you see a ring that is seemingly impossible to gain access to, chances are you need to be on Hard/Insane to get a small ball to access the ring.
