INTRODUCTION

The sport of pétanque can best be understood as a combination of shot put and curling. Players toss boules (metal balls) toward the jack (a small pink ball), trying to get theirs as close as possible (“Pointer” shot) and/or knock their opponent's away (“Tirer” shot). The full rules can be read here, but you'll pick up the basics within the first hour or so of play anyway.

WALKTHROUGH:

Step 1: Create a team.

See My Very Own Team. Make sure you like the team you make, as you'll be looking at it for the next 20-odd hours. Use this team from this point on.

Step 2: Win International League on Hard Difficulty in Career.

Set the difficulty to Hard in the Options menu, then start playing. Don't worry if you fail the Local League once or twice while getting the hang of the controls, as you'll be grinding out games later anyway. You should earn most (if not all) of the score and shot trophies within the first three hours or so just through normal gameplay. Use the shopping points you earn to upgrade your players' attributes (see The Ultimate Team). Once their stats are maxed out, feel free to switch from 13-point games to 5-point games to speed things up.

(Note: since difficulties do not stack, you could theoretically do steps 2-4 in any order. However, the game's AI is not especially tough even on Hard, and you earn twice as many shopping points as you will on Easy, allowing you to switch to 5-point games much earlier.)

Step 3: Win International League on Medium Difficulty in Career.

Now that you've beaten International League once, that's where you'll stay. You will not need to beat the earlier three again. By now, you should have maxed-out players and all the Shop items, so stick to five-point games.

Step 4: Win International League on Easy Difficulty in Career.

From this point on, you will be playing on Easy. You should stomp all over the AI with little trouble by now. Again, stick to 5-point games.

Step 5: Mop-Up and Grind

If you have missed any of the Shot or Point trophies, grab them now. Otherwise, just keep playing 5-point games in Career mode until you reach 100 victories.

  • Win an end 2-0

Self-explanatory. You will accomplish this many, many times over the course of your Career.

  • Win an end 3-0

Self-explanatory. You will accomplish this many, many times over the course of your Career.

  • See Winning Spree!

  • Win a game by a margin of 7 points or greater

See Tell Fanny I Said Hello.

  • Win a game 13-0

In fact, you will get this for any victory by a margin of 13 points (e.g. 14-1, 15-2, etc.). Even at the International level on Hard difficulty, this is perfectly doable. You will accomplish this many times over the course of your Career.

  • Create a custom team

This should be the very first thing you do in the game. Select Career from the main menu, then click any of the New Team boxes. Enter your team's name at the prompt, then create all three of your players in any way you see fit. Once you've started editing the third player, the trophy should pop.

  • Max out stats for a player on a team

    See The Ultimate Team.

  • Max out stats for all players on a team

Between games, you will be given a chance to spend the shopping points you have earned. Select “Edit Team” from the menu, then spend points to increase the attributes of your players. Focus on Tirer and Pointer Skill first, then Aim and Power Skill. Leave Spin Skill for last, as you will likely never use it anyway. Try to keep all three players more-or-less equal. Assuming you are playing 13-point games on Hard difficulty and not bothering with the Shop, you should max out all three players partway through the National League tournament.

  • Buy something from the shop

    See Shopaholic!

  • Buy everything from the shop

Between games, you will be given a chance to spend the shopping points you have earned. Select “Shop” from the menu to buy items. Focus on buying boules first (and remember to equip them) before bothering with clothing. The last shop items will unlock once you have won the International League for the first time, and you should have more than enough points to buy them by then.

  • Awarded for promotion to the regional league

Once you have won the Local League tournament on any skill level and select Play Next Game, you will receive a notification of your victory and your promotion to the Regional League. The trophy should pop at this point.

  • Awarded for promotion to the national league

  • Awarded for winning the international league on easy

Once you have won the International League tournament on the Easy skill level and select Play Next Game, you will receive a notification of your victory and that you will be repeating the International League. The trophy should pop at this point.

  • Awarded for winning the international league on medium

Once you have won the International League tournament on the Medium skill level and select Play Next Game, you will receive a notification of your victory and that you will be repeating the International League. The trophy should pop at this point.

  • Awarded for winning the international league on hard

Once you have won the International League tournament on the Hard skill level and select Play Next Game, you will receive a notification of your victory and that you will be repeating the International League. The trophy should pop at this point.

  • Carreau an opponent’s ball

    See Carreau Hero!

  • Carreau an opponent’s ball 5 times in 1 game

A “carreau” is when you knock an opponent's boule out of the way, and have yours land more-or-less where his boule was. In practice, the game awards this for just about any Tirer shot where your boule doesn't bounce away too far. Consequently, this is easy to accomplish in any 13-point game where you use a lot of Tirer shots.

  • Land a pointer shot within 20cm of the jack

    See Eagle Eye!

  • Land a pointer shot within 10cm of the jack

The boule will need to be on the inner ring of the scoring measurements shown after each shot. This will come with time, skill, and luck. If you find it elusive, try tossing the jack straight ahead, then tossing your first boule with just enough power to be slightly below the bottom bracket.

  • Go from losing to winning with the last throw of the end

You can do this in three ways on the 12th boule of the end if your opponent is winning after the 11th: landing the boule closer to the jack than your opponent's, knocking your opponent's boule away from the jack, or knocking the jack itself closer to one of your boules. This should happen many times over the course of your Career.

  • Come back from 7 points down to win

This will probably be the last point-based trophy you earn. Allow your opponent to rack up 7 or 8 points, then start trying for real. For best results, do this on Easy difficulty.

  • Go from winning to losing with your last throw of the end

You can do this in three ways on the 12th boule of the end if you are winning after the 11th: knocking your opponent's boule closer to the jack than yours is, knocking your boule away from the jack, or knocking the jack itself closer to your opponent's boule. While considerably more rare than The Hand of God, this should still happen a few times over your Career.

  • Win an end by knocking the jack out of play

For this, your opponent must have thrown all six boules and you must have at least two left. Target the jack with a Tirer shot and try to knock it out of bounds. If you have at least one boule left once the jack goes out, you win the end.

  • Win 3 games in a row

Once you get the hang of the controls and rules, this is a breeze. You will accomplish this many, many times over the course of your Career.

  • Play 100 games

    See Veteran.

  • Win 100 games

This will most likely be the last trophy you need for platinum. Once you have won the International League on all three skill levels, you should have around 40-50 victories under your belt. After that, keep playing 5-point games on Easy difficulty in Career until you grind out the 100 victories you need. Unless you lose a truly stunning number of games in the early part of your Career, you should earn this somewhere around Season 14.

  • Knock 2 opponents balls out of play in one end

This should happen many, many times over the course of your Career. In the unlikely event that it doesn't, toss the jack as far as you can and target it with a Tirer shot to knock it to the far end of the play area. This will force your opponent to land boules in that area, and you can hammer them out of bounds with Tirer shots.
