Roadmap:

Step 1: Warrior (Normal) difficulty playthrough
This is where your journey to begins. Ignore playing through Acolyte (Easy) difficulty, that playthrough can be skipped with a simple trick thus making it 7 playthroughs for the Platinum instead of 8 (more info in the trophy guide). Warrior difficulty really shouldn’t pose much difficulty, enemies are still weak and they don't do very much damage to you. Start mastering the Ultimate Technique (UT from now on) chaining and the Izuna Drop move, these will be your "spamming" moves for most of the harder parts on higher difficulties.

Step 2: Mentor (Hard) difficulty playthrough
Mentor difficulty might start giving you trouble in certain parts, especially Momiji's and Ayane's chapters. It is essential to master the UT chaining from here, this technique is what you’ll be using for the majority of the game. It is very safe and very powerful.

Step 3: Master Ninja (Very Hard) difficulty playthrough
This is the hardest part of the Platinum, in my opinion. Every enemy instant kills you with a grab and kills you with 4-5 normal hits. Their AI is also smarter, they never hang around waiting for you to attack. UT chaining and Izuna drop are a must and you will have to master the bosses to defeat them (although there are loops available for most of them).

Step 4: Team Missions
Most people consider these missions the hardest part of the Platinum. This can be true if you lack a decent/professional co-op partner for the missions, however, if you do have one I consider this not nearly as skill dependant as the Master Ninja playthrough.

If you have trouble finding a good partner for the missions, try to get one from the co-op partners thread. There are still plenty of NGS2 pros, including myself, willing to help people beat the missions, as long as you know the basic rules of what you'll have to do. Read the guide for more info.

Step 5: Chapter Challenge playthroughs (4 playthroughs)
This step won't be anywhere near as hard as clearing MN story. The Master Ninja ranks on Chapter Challenge mode are very easy to obtain, the only requirement you will need to fulfill on every chapter is killing every single enemy. This will guarantee your MN rank. Read the guide for more info.

Note: This Step can be swapped or even mixed with Step 4, there isn't any specific order in which you would need to complete the team missions and chapter challenges. Just work on them at your own pace.

Step 6 (optional): Clean up
You most likely won't have anything left by now but if you have some 1000 kill trophies or perhaps the 100 Ultimate Ninpo/100 revives trophies left, then finish them now.

[PS3T Would Like To Thank Zongorillacska For This Roadmap]

Master of the Secret Arts
Obtain all trophies. (12)

You are a true Ultimate Ninja.

Learned the Reverse Wind.
Successfully perform the Reverse Wind technique.

You can perform all these moves from the beginning of the game (except the Ninpo spells), however, for the trophies to unlock, you'll need to pick up each technique’s respective scrolls from corpses and chests. They're all in plain sight in the first 3 Chapters. After you've picked up the Reverse Wind scroll, hold down and move the in any direction to unlock the trophy.

Learned the Furious Wind.
Successfully perform the Furious Wind technique.

After you have picked up the Furious Wind scroll, hold down and move the while blocking enemy attacks to unlock the trophy.

After you have picked up the Flying Swallow scroll, use or + (aimed jump) then press to dash towards an enemy and unlock the trophy. This is a very useful technique as it has a great delimb rate and fast recovery frames. It very often decapitates humanoid enemies and even fiends so definitely master this technique.

Learned the Flying Bird Flip.
Successfully perform the Flying Bird Flip technique.

After you have picked up the Flying Bird Flip scroll, jump up towards a wall to run up on it, then press to jump off and unlock the trophy.

Successfully perform the Ultimate Technique.

After you have picked up the Ultimate Technique scroll, hold down until your character shines blue or red and release when an enemy is at close proximity to perform an Ultimate Technique (UT further on in the guide) and unlock the trophy.

Learned the Ultimate Guidance.
Successfully perform the Ultimate Guidance technique

After you have picked up the Ultimate Guidance scroll, hold down when there are floating yellow/blue/red essences around you to absorb them into an instant UT and unlock the trophy.

This will be your favourite move in the entire game and you will absolutely want to master it. It is very safe, very powerful and as long as you kill at least 1 enemy with the previous UT (for new essence to appear) it is completely spammable. To make things even better you can jump around and time your UT at landing, thus getting a completely instant charge. This is called the On-Landing Ultimate Technique or OLUT.

Learned to the Counter Attack.
Successfully perform the Counter Attack technique.

After you have picked up the Counter Attack scroll, hold down and wait for an enemy to attack you, then immediately press or to perform a counter attack and unlock the trophy.

Learned the Izuna Drop.
Successfully perform the Izuna Drop technique.

After you have picked up the Izuna Drop scroll, perform the move with one of the following weapons:

- Dragon Sword/True Dragon Sword
- Lunar Staff
- Falcon Talons
- Vigoorian Flails
- Enma's Fang
- Double Katana/Blade of the Archfiend
- Tonfa

Note: The input move for the Lunar Staff's and Enma's Fang’s Izuna Drop is .

Learned the Art of the Flame Phoenix.
Successfully perform the Art of the Flame Phoenix Ninpo.

After you have picked up the Flame Phoenix Ninpo scroll around the beginning of Chapter 3, equip it in the weapons menu and press + near an enemy to cast the spell and unlock the trophy.

Learned the Art of the Piercing Void.
Successfully perform the Art of the Piercing Void Ninpo.

After you have picked up the Piercing Void Ninpo scroll in Chapter 6, equip it in the weapons menu and press + near an enemy to cast the spell and unlock the trophy.

Feat of a Hundred Slashes
Achieve a 100-hit combo with any weapon. (5)

This is a simple trophy. Everything counts as a hit, including Shurikens or Rachel's machine gun hits so there are a lot of ways to get well above 100 hits. I recommend doing it on the mini skeleton enemies before the Bone Dragon boss fight on Chapter 7. You can spam Shurikens on them and easily get even a 999 hits combo. Check out RYUUJIN's video below for different methods:

Feat of a Thousand Obliterations
Defeat 1000 enemies using Obliteration Techniques.

You perform an Obliteration Technique by pressing next to a delimbed enemy. Defeat 1000 enemies in story mode, chapter challenge or team missions with any character using Obliteration Techniques to unlock the trophy.

Feat of Ultimate Destruction
Defeat 1000 enemies using Ultimate Techniques. (2)

You perform an Ultimate Technique by holding down until your character shines blue or red and release it when an enemy is at close proximity. Defeat 1000 enemies in story mode, chapter challenge or team missions with any character using Ultimate Techniques to unlock the trophy.

Izuna Drop Master
Successfully use the Izuna Drop on 1000 enemies. (2)

Refer to the Learned the Izuna Drop trophy to know how to perform an Izuna Drop. Defeat 1000 enemies in story mode, chapter challenge or team missions with Ryu, Momiji or Ayane using Izuna Drops to unlock the trophy.

Guillotine Throw Master
Successfully use the Guillotine Throw on 1000 enemies.

You perform a Guillotine Throw by pressing + for an aimed jump towards an enemy, then pressing + again when you're over the opponent's head to throw them. Defeat 1000 enemies in story mode, chapter challenge or team missions with Ryu, Momiji or Ayane using Guillotine Throws to unlock the trophy.

Dragon Sword Master

Note: The Dual Katana refers to both the Dual Katana you obtain in Chapter 6 and the Blade of the Archfiend you obtain in Chapter 17 after defeating Fiend Genshin. Both of them count towards this trophy.

Kusari-gama master
Defeat 1000 enemies with the Kusari-gama.

See Enma's Fang Master

Eclipse Scythe Master
Defeat 1000 enemies with the Eclipse Scythe.

See Enma's Fang Master

Note: Ultimate Techniques performed with Eclipse Scythe do NOT count towards its kills.

Tonfa Master
Defeat 1000 enemies with the Tonfa.

See Enma's Fang Master

Vigoorian Flail Master
Defeat 1000 enemies with the Vigoorian Flail.

See Enma's Fang Master

Enma's Fang Master
Defeat 1000 enemies with the Enma's Fang.

All of the "1000 kills with X weapon" trophies can be ground out in story mode, chapter challenge and team missions equally. However, I wouldn’t aim for these at all until you are done with everything else, as it is very, very likely that you will obtain them all by the natural progress of the Platinum.

If you decide to grind or these are your last trophies, you can earn kills quickly in the beginning of Chapter 7. There's a ton of ghost fish in this area, you can simply kill them all then quit the chapter, rinse and repeat. You don't have to reach saves for kills to count.

Notes:

  • Performing kills with Izuna Drops and Guillotine Throws do not count towards these trophies.
  • Ultimate Techniques performed with Enma's Fang do not count towards its kills.
Ultimate Ninpo Master
Chant 100 Ultimate Ninpo spells.

You can only perform Ultimate Ninpo in team missions. Both you and your partner need to cast a Ninpo spell together to turn it into an Ultimate Ninpo. When playing with the offline A.I it will automatically join your Ninpo and perform an Ultimate Ninpo, therefore, it is easy to grind this offline too. However, this is completely unnecessary if you are aiming for clearing all team missions, as you will more than likely perform 100 Ultimate Ninpos on the way.

Rescued 100 ninja.
Rescue 100 people in need. (1)

When playing team missions, you can revive your dead partner by running to their body and pressing . This can be ground out offline just like the 100 Ultimate Ninpo trophy, however, it is unnecessary if you are aiming to clear all the team missions as you will guaranteed have way over 100 revives along the way.

All missions successfully completed.
Successfully complete all missions. (13)

This and Clearing the Path of the Master Ninja are the hardest trophies in the game. For the team missions, you will need an online co-op partner as the missions after Mentor 04 are impossible to finish with the offline A.I partner, because the A.I is terrible after this point. You can find a co-op partner in this thread.

There are 2 ways to approach these missions. One being the hard way, becoming a Ninja Gaiden veteran and killing everything yourself, learning the game inside and out. The other one being the easier way, which in my opinion, makes this trophy much easier than clearing the Master Ninja story. More precisely, there's a move in the game that makes you completely invulnerable to any kind of attacks while you are performing it called the Rachel Twirl.

Now since a trophy guide is made to teach you the easiest way to obtain the trophies, I'll be explaining the easier way. Here's a video guide for Rachel's Twirl (credit to FusionZX for the video):

I advise using the first method, the circle twirling because the other 2 methods require timing and are therefore ruined if you encounter online lag. If you have learned the Rachel Twirl, you'll be able to use it on every single MN and UN mission except for MN4; on MN4 your task will be to spam Rachel’s machine gun and move away when enemies get close to you.

All you need now is a good partner who can kill the enemies for you while you are baiting other enemies. It will also help if you are good at killing Elizabeth with Rachel's Ultimate Technique as she's tough to defeat in close combat. It's a great relief for the boss killer in UN1 if the twirling partner can defeat Elizabeth on their own.

If you are really having trouble beating UN2 normally/using the twirl, there's a glitch to get out of the hall using a combo of Momiji and spam Rachel/Scythe UT's to beat the entire mission. I advise you use this as a last resort as it is very long, boring and unnatural. Video demonstration (credit to hades68 for the video):

The combo input for Momiji to get through the wall: Double jump, run up the wall, , , hold while pointing left stick towards the wall in the corner.

Cleared the PATH OF THE ACOLYTE
Clear the game on the PATH OF THE ACOLYTE.

This trophy can be made easier with a simple trick. You can skip the entire Acolyte playthrough by playing through Warrior first, then playing through Chapter 17 on Acolyte difficulty in Chapter Challenge mode. This will net you the trophy for clearing the Path of the Acolyte.

Cleared the PATH OF THE WARRIOR.
Clear the game on the PATH OF THE WARRIOR.

Simply finish the game on Warrior difficulty. The difficulty trophies do not stack so this will not unlock Cleared the PATH OF THE ACOLYTE trophy, however, there's a trick to unlock that trophy very easily after clearing Warrior difficulty; refer to that trophy for details.

See Cleared the PATH OF THE MASTER NINJA for a general strategy.

Ayane mastered.
Defeat 1000 enemies in Ayane.

See Rachel mastered

Rachel mastered.
Defeat 1000 enemies in Rachel.

You will guaranteed get all 3 trophies for the kills with the girl characters during your 7 story playthroughs. If you somehow manage not to or you want to grind them early, play the Acolyte or Warrior team missions with the girl characters to grind out their respective trophies.

Momiji mastered.
Defeat 1000 enemies in Momiji. (1)

See Rachel mastered

Mastered the PATH OF THE ACOLYTE.
Master the PATH OF THE ACOLYTE. (2)

Obtain a Master Ninja rank on every chapter challenge on Acolyte difficulty. See Mastered the PATH OF THE MASTER NINJA for a strategy.

Clear the PATH OF THE MENTOR.
Clear the game on the PATH OF THE MENTOR.

Mentor difficulty unlocks once you cleared the game on Warrior difficulty. This will be much tougher than Warrior already, but it is far from impossible. Master the Ultimate Technique chaining and the Izuna Drop move, and you will be doing well.

See Cleared the PATH OF THE MASTER NINJA for a general strategy.

Clear the PATH OF THE MASTER NINJA.
Clear the game on the PATH OF THE MASTER NINJA.

This is the hardest trophy in the game, in my opinion. Enemies instant kill you with 1 grab, they kill you with 4-5 normal hits and their AI is smarter, meaning they will not be hanging around much waiting for you to attack.

My general advice for the entire game is completely mastering the UT chaining technique, the Izuna Drop, The Guillotine Throw and the Flying Swallow. These are all the moves you will need for killing everything (with the exception of bosses).

UT chaining is by far the most powerful one from the list, I recommend chaining UTs in every fight as long as there is essence around. You will get enough yellow essence from chests, don't worry about absorbing them during fights. The most powerful UTs are the Lunar Staff's 360UT (spin the 360 degrees before holding ), Enma's Fang’s UT and when you get your hands on the weapon, the Tonfa UT. I advise upgrading these weapons to level 3 as soon as you can, they’re extremely useful.

The hardest chapters in the game are 5 and 11 where you control Momiji and Ayane. Momiji and Ayane are weak characters, their UTs don't do nearly as much damage as Ryu's weapons and they're very weak overall. Your best bet is still UT chaining, spamming Guillotine Throws and performing Counter Attacks.

Good luck!

Mastered the PATH OF THE MASTER NINJA
Master the PATH OF THE MASTER NINJA. (3)

The chapter challenge trophies do not stack, meaning you will have to finish all 17 chapters of the game on each difficulty for their respective trophies (68 chapters in total).

This trophy is technically harder than Clear the PATH OF THE MASTER NINJA as you need to clear Master Ninja in order to even unlock the Master Ninja Chapter Challenge mode, however, for the sheer requirements of each playthrough this is far easier than clearing it the first time. The reason is that all your weapons are available on every Chapter and they're all maxed out.

For this trophy you'll need to obtain a Master Ninja rank on every chapter challenge on Master Ninja difficulty. The Master Ninja rank requirements are not nearly as intimidating as you might think. In NGS 1 these were based on time, enemies killed, Ninpos saved, overall karma. In NGS 2 this is much easier as there's only one important factor that matters when trying to get a MN rank, i.e the number of enemies killed. What this means is that all you need to concentrate on is killing every single enemy you come by during the chapter. You can take even 40mins, even an hour to finish a chapter, lose all your Ninpo, die as many times as you want, just kill every enemy.

The only Chapter challenge where you might have trouble with this is Chapter 17, you will need to kill all fish in the blood river before entering the hall to Fiend Genshin and kill at least 5-6 Van Gelves (the big purple fiends) during the Dagra Dai boss fight. If you get lucky with the chest in the hall before entering the Dagra Dai boss fight though, you will spawn a group of ghost fish and killing those will 100% guarantee your MN rank for the chapter.

Good luck!
