Introduction:
The best sports game on the market returns for another round of intense hockey fun. You can play as any one of the teams from the National Hockey League, or even play as international teams in quick exhibition matches, or the Battle for the Cup mode, where you play to win the Stanley Cup. Create your own pro in the famed Be A Pro mode, get drafted, and weave your own legendary hockey career. Likewise, in the new Be A GM mode, you can control every aspect of a team from salaries and trades, to draftees and free agents.
You can then test your skills online in ranked versus matches, online leagues, and the critically acclaimed EA Sports Hockey League, where the competition from teams around the world is fierce but rewarding. Really, there is so much to do in this game, both online and offline, that it should give you months of good fun with lots of replayability.
The trophies in this game are mostly somewhat easy to obtain, especially the offline ones. Once you get down to the last few online trophies though, it can get pretty tricky.
The only real “glitchy” trophy you should worry about is “Grade A” where your Be A Pro character has to receive an overall grade of A in a game. It hasn’t happened to a lot of people, but if this doesn’t unlock after the first few games, then you need to create a new save file.
Step 1: Tutorial, Battle for the Cup, and Be A Pro
When you first start up the game, you will play through a tutorial that teaches you the basics of the game. This should get you “Eager To Learn” your first trophy. After this, you will be taken the main screen, where you should the select Battle For The Cup mode, in which you play in the Stanley Cup Final in a 7-game series. Make sure you choose to play as an Elite League team (one from the German Leagues) so you can get the trophy. Since you have to win 4 games to win the series, you will get a lot of the easy single-player trophies along the way. You can adjust the sliders if things get a little too hard. Make sure you change the controls during one of the games to NHL 94 controls so you don’t miss the “New Beginnings” trophy. You should try to go for the “Hardcore Superstar” trophy during this time as well, but since it can get really hard if you don’t boost it with a 2nd controller, you don’t have to. Please refer to the trophy guide to see how many trophies you want to go for during this mode. These should be trophies like “Dump It”, “Line Juggler”, “Board Play”, etc.
After finishing up Battle for The Cup, you should have a pretty good amount of trophies. Now you should play Be A Pro mode, which is probably the most fun single-player mode in the game. Create your own player and make him a sniper with his position being Wing or Center ( this will ensure that he will have the most opportunities to score goals). Make sure to adjust the sliders to make it VERY easy for you to score goals and make assists during games. If done right, you can average 5-7 goals per game, or even more! As you progress through Be A Pro, you will unlock various equipment for your Pro, which will in turn, unlock the”Unlock Gloves” and “Unlock Skates” trophies. Most of the other Be A Pro trophies are pretty easy, but some may take a little time. Remember to be on the lookout if “Grade A” glitches for you. Please refer to the trophy guide for information on all the other various Be A Pro trophies.
Step 2: Online Trophies
There’s a lot of online trophies to get in this game, and there’s a few of them that can be pretty tough to get on your own. In order to make this as painless as possible, you will definitely need a boosting partner for many of these trophies. Please refer to the boosting thread to find a boosting partner.
You should first get both of the Online Shootout trophies out of the way; this shouldn’t take long at all with a boosting partner. After that you need to focus on Online Verus Play. There are many trophies to get here and again, with boosting, it shouldn’t take you too long to get trophies like “No Offsides”, “No Icing”, and “Fighting Major”. The only real challenge here is grinding out 100 goals for “Century Play”. This trophy only took me 2 games to get though, because my boosting partner just pulled his goalie after every face off, which let me have an easy open-net shot. I was able to score 50 goals exactly for each game. Just follow this strategy when going for this trophy and shouldn’t take long. Lastly, remember that you need to have 4 controllers for the “All Play” trophy, so borrow some if you can or use Rock Band Instruments; I have heard people say though that pretty much any usb controller will work for this.
Next up is the Online League trophies. There are many leagues being set up in the boosting thread, so refer to that thread to join one. These shouldn’t take you too long, since everybody takes turns winning and quitting out of a game will still have it count. When I did this, all 4 of us were able to get both trophies in the matter of 2 hours, we just took turns on who would win the league until everyone had it. As a side note, make sure you DO NOT quit out of the final playoff game, or else you will not get “It’s The Playoffs”.
Finally to acquire in the online trophy-hunt are the EASHL trophies, which happen to contain the hardest trophies in the game. Fortunately, Pesico has made an amazing thread that will help you get most of the EASHL with little trouble. Please refer to that thread and sign up for the team, the link to it can be found at the bottom of this paragraph. After joining, games will be set up where you will get “Party Animal” and “It’s A Challenge”. For “Trophy Case” make sure you go to the awards section for it to unlock. You will have to refer to Pesico’s “Gold Team for Free!” thread to look for a team that will help you with this trophy. This might take a while, so be patient. When one opens up, just kindly ask to temporarily join. When you join, just go to the awards section and go to the medals section to get all 3 of the“Gold/Silver/Bronze Team” trophies.

Step 3: Be A GM and Trophy Clean Up
After you have gotten the online trophies, go back to the main screen and start up a Be A GM profile. Beforehand, make sure you pick a good team (like the Penguins or the Red Wings) and stack their team with all good 90+ players by adding them to the roster from the main menu. Then just start Be A GM, choose that same stacked team, and sim through the whole season doing small things to gain xp like trades and scouting. You will then reach the playoffs, which you should just sim through until you reach the Stanley Cup. I suggest you just play through the Cup so it’s guaranteed you win. After winning the Cup, your 3rd phone should unlock.
After this, check your trophy list to see which trophies you still have left to unlock. There shouldn’t be too many left, and they should mostly just be easier single player trophies. Check the trophy guide and ask questions if you need any help. Luckily, you can still boost most of these trophies online, or with a 2nd controller. After cleaning up these last few straggler trophies, you should have yourself a shiny Platinum trophy!
Conclusion:
So that’s pretty much all there is to NHL 10. This game is pretty fun to platinum, and there’s only a few online trophies that should really pose you any real problem. Just keep at it though and before you know it, you will have the coveted Platinum trophy in your collection and more than likely, you will still keep wanting to play even after you get all the trophies. Good Luck! Now go out there and prove you’re tough enough!
