The budget series Heavy Fire is back with another on-rails military shooter. Heavy Fire: Shattered Spear is the follow up to 2011’s Heavy Fire: Afghanistan (HF:A). Both games are pretty much identical to each other. Just like with HF:A you can expect a short and modern military shooter. Returning are the sandy locals, authentic weapons, cover mechanics, action set pieces, and corny American Military lingo. Thankfully, Shattered Spear chose not to eliminate epic voice overs, you can count on this game to provide you with the cheesiest voice overs in recent history.
Shattered Spear is a offline only game although it does have online leader boards. Shattered Spear does feature local cooperative play as the game allows for up to four players simultaneously. Separate PSN profiles can sign into the game and their stats will carry over to their own profiles (locally saved profiles on the same PS3) but trophies earned will not carry over.
Note: This guide was written using the default settings for the normal Dualshock 3 controller. Shattered Spear has full Playstation Move support and it works pretty well with this game. Using both the Move and its optional navigation controllers works extremely well as these controls are both intuitive and accurate. That being said regardless of what control scheme you use, note that it will take you a couple missions before you feel truly conformable with the cover mechanics.
Glitch Notice: The radio collection trophies are semi-glitched. All 16 of the radios must be destroyed in one single sitting or the trophies will not unlock. See the Radio Silence trophy description in the trophy guide for more information.
Step 1 (Play through the campaign on Rookie and destroy all the radios):
The game has two difficulty settings; rookie and veteran. Play though the game on rookie as you must complete the game on rookie before you can play on veteran. The game is both short and simple. The game consists of 12 missions with none of them lasting more than 10 minutes long (they all average about 8 minutes each). After you complete all 12 missions on rookie you will unlock veteran mode.
While playing though the game on rookie, you should also destroy all radios (even though you will need to destroy the same radios twice). The radios act as collectibles and there are a total of eight (8) radios throughout the campaign. The radios can be found on missions 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, and 12. Important: Because of a glitch you will have to pick up all 16 radios in one sitting. See the Radio Silence trophy description in the trophy guide for more information and the radio locations.
You should also aim for headshots as much as possible to avoid any possible grinding later on.
During this step you will unlock the following trophies:
- Multi-kill
- Crowd Crusher
- Big Flood
- Chain Alpha
- Slaughter
- Ranger
- Top Secret
- Good Aim
- Sharpshooter
- Eagle Eye
- Fragile World
- Hawk Eye
- War Hero
- Base Defender
- Apache Hero
- John R.
- Package Secured
- Radio Breaker (Glitch warning – See trophy description in guide)
- World Peace
- Half Cleared
Step 2 (Play through the campaign again on Veteran and destroy all the same radios…again):
Play though the campaign again, but this time on veteran mode. Veteran Mode isn’t much more difficult than the rookie setting. Most normal enemies still die from a single bullet and all vehicle enemies still take the same amount of damage to destroy.
During this playthrough, you will also need to find and destroy all of the same radios you did in the in your first playthrough.
During this step you will unlock:
- Marksman
- Collateral Damage
- Ordering Disruptions! (Glitch warning – See trophy description in guide)
- Headhunter
- Radio Silence (Glitch warning – See trophy description in guide)
- All Cleared
Step 3 (Clean up):
Use this step to clean up any trophies you may have missed, skipped or need to mini-grind. All trophies can be obtained via mission select, but for your progress to save, you will need to reach the next checkpoint before you quit to the main menu. These trophies probably include:
- Chain Beta
- Chain Gamma
- Waste
- Demolition Addict
- Trigger Happy
See their respective trophy descriptions for tips and strategies.
