Out of Your Depth Trophy in Grand Theft Auto V

  • Out of Your Depth

You're gonna need a bigger boat...

How to unlock Out of Your Depth

For this trophy you will need to be eaten by a shark. Sharks spawn randomly in deep water, go out into the ocean with a boat or jet-ski and watch your mini-map until the area around you turns completely dark blue. Keep navigating the boat or swim around. After a while you should see a red dot on your radar representing a shark, jump into the water and wait until it kills you. This may take some time as the shark doesn't spot you right away so keep swimming around until it eventually kills you and you earn the trophy. On rare occasions the shark will actually attack the boat/jet-ski you are on and kill you that way.

Being killed will set you back 5% of your total income up to a maximum fee of $5,000 so if you want to save your money, you should make a new save and reload after you have the trophy.

Please see the video below for a video walkthrough of this trophy:

  • Yet another that won't pop.
  • What do you have to do for this one ?
  • @2 You need to take a jetski/boat/etc out into the deep ocean (once it turns dark blue on your radar) then dive in the water and look for a shark. Get the shark's attention and get him to eat you or attack your jetski and you get it.
  • You actually don't need the shark to attack your boat. Just use any boat to go to deep water. As soon as you see a red dot in the water that means that there's a shark. Jump in the water and go near the shark. As soon as he attacks and kills you the trophy will pop. Works for both version of the game (PS3/PS4).

  • Done it twice, no trophy. Any suggestions
  • Keep trying? It should work if not maybe you need another kind of boat.
  • Can you do this online?
  • Did not pop for me. :/
  • I can not find a shark. I have spent a couple hours out in the deep even went like the width of the map away from the coast. Sharks are just not showing up on my map.....
  • @10 same issue here. No sharks anywhere.
  • I haven't done this on the PS4, but when I was still on the X360, I got this when I jumped out of a plane far from the coast, and tried to swim back. It was so far away, eventually a shark spawned and killed me.
  • Get a boat (or plane) and drive to the edge of the map until the boat sinks (or falls into the water) then keep swimming in the same direction and a shark will appear and kill you.
  • Jet-skied out for AGES until it sank, Killed by a shark, no trophy. Bullshit!
  • You'll be spending a lot of time in the Pacific Ocean collecting Nuclear Waste; just keep your eye on the radar in case a shark (red dot) shows up. After getting the Waste Management trophy, Michael's Strangers and Freaks mission "Death at Sea" becomes available at the Sonar Collections Dock, which again will take you halfway around the game map, meaning you shouldn't have to go out of your way to find a shark. The most common place for sharks to show up seemed to be on the east side of the map, among the many smaller islands directly east of the Land Act Reservoir.

  • I just went to the open ocean (dark blue on the map) and waited a couple of minutes, in Campaign Mode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOjdo708rTE
