Introduction

Frogger - one of the undisputable classics of gaming first introduced back in 1981, has seen many iterations over the years. This title dubbed the 'Hyper Arcade Edition' is a celebration of the game's 30th anniversary, full of different modes, game skins and more. You’ll be pleased to know that the classic gameplay you expect from a Frogger title is present in full force. For those who aren’t familiar with the game, you’re tasked with navigating frogs to their homes, via a treacherous path through traffic and river obstacles, all the while racking up points and collecting bonuses. For the high-score hunters out there, the inclusion of online leaderboards is a massive plus point and does boost the replay time of the game significantly. For those of you who are just after a quick 100% this game certainly fits the bill, and shouldn’t give you too much hassle.

Walkthrough

Step One - Classic Frogger

The first step to 100% is to play and complete Classic mode, unlocking a third of the game's trophies in the process. ‘Nostalgia’ and ‘Frogger In Love’ will come naturally as you work towards completion of the game's five difficulty levels. Completing the five levels will unlock ‘Highway Crossing Frog’, with your aim to then progress past level five in your quest for 100,000 points, which upon achieving will unlock ‘Greasy Joystick’.

Step Two - Various Other Game Modes

With Classic mode complete, it’s time to play each of the game's other seven modes. All modes need to be played at least once in order to unlock ‘Around The World’, and most modes have a single trophy attached to them, so be sure to go for the following trophies when playing their respective game modes; ‘Tongue Tiled’ via Tile Capture, ‘Rumble in the Pond!’ via Battle Royale, ‘The Devoted Artist!’ via Paint, ‘Twin Frogs’ via Twin Frogger and lastly ‘Challenged’ for completing Challenge mode.

12 trophies ( 1  )

  • Obtained a Classic Frogger score of over 100,000!

This trophy should be attempted in conjunction with the ‘Highway Crossing Frog’ trophy. The reason being, upon completion of Classic mode's five levels, you will be very near the target score of 100,000. After level five, the stages simply recycle back round, therefore you should unlock this trophy when you are playing level six (a replica of level one). While not essential, you should be trying to collect ‘Lady Frogs’ as much as possible during Classic mode to help boost your score.

  • Every game mode played!

Frogger: Hyper Arcade Edition has a total of eight game modes and you must play each one at least once to unlock this trophy. The full list of modes can be seen below:

    • Tile Capture
    • Battle Royale
    • Lady Frog Rescue
    • Paint
    • Twin Frogger
    • Classic Frogger
    • Frogger Freak Out
    • Challenges
  • Won a single player Tile Capture match!

Tile Capture is a mode in which you capture and hold tiles on the game grid for points. Aswell as earning points for each tile captured, you can also 'lock' those tiles to your colour for 15 seconds, by returning a frog to its home. To make this as easy as possible, I suggest utilising the ‘Party-Infinite Lives’ variant of this game mode, combined with playing against only one computer opponent as opposed to three. The computer opponent is not difficult to beat at all, and you should have no trouble unlocking this on your first attempt.

  • Used both Hyper and Retro controls for Classic!

Simply make use of the two control schemes available; Hyper (Continuous frog jumps, if you hold the desired jump direction) and Retro (Each frog jump requires a single button press). It’s worth noting that this trophy won’t unlock initially, you need to complete the round of any mode you’re playing at the time.

  • Fly power up used only against CPU!

There are three ‘Fly’ power ups available to use in the various game modes on offer. The Red Fly, which teleports your opponent, the Blue Fly, which freezes your opponent, and lastly the Green Fly, which inverts your opponent's controls. Simply collect any of the three flies and make use of it via any of the shoulder buttons (,,,).

  • All the Paint patterns completed!

Each level in Paint mode presents a picture on the grid made up of coloured tiles. It’s your job to jump on each tile that makes up the picture, turning each one as you progress an alternate colour. Your ultimate aim on each level is to turn the whole picture from one colour to another. However it’s not as simple as it sounds, there are obstacles that try to hinder your progress, with these obstacles increasing in speed and frequency as you advance through the mode's 25 levels. Completing all the levels in Paint isn’t too hard, providing you play cautiously. The countdown on each level is also very generous, leaving ample time to plan strategies and routes.

  • Got a Frog Home in Classic Frogger!

This will most likely be the first trophy you unlock. Simply deliver one frog home. (Home being the other side of the river from where you initially begin play). Remember, this trophy must be unlocked via Classic mode.

  • Completed all 5 difficulty levels of Classic Frogger!

This one can be tricky if you’re not careful and may require a few attempts. Levels one, two and three are relatively straightforward, it’s when you move on to levels four and five that you'll notice a significant spike in difficulty. (Ideally you want to be reaching level four without losing a life, therefore giving you the best opportunity to make it through levels four and five). I cannot stress enough that learning the patterns of the logs and turtles is absolutely integral to your success with this trophy. Also a pitfall to watch out for is the clock - never let it reach zero as that will result in a game over, simply jump into the water and sacrifice a life if you find yourself in this situation.

  • Rescued a Lady Frog in Classic!

‘Lady Frogs’ will appear in abundance throughout your time playing Classic mode, you’ll know you have collected one as upon doing so a pink heart will surround you. After collection, proceed to deliver your frog safely home and the trophy will unlock.

  • Got a Twin Frog pair Home!

This trophy is obtained via the ‘Twin Frogger’ game mode. This mode is a replica of Classic mode, the only difference being that you’re controlling two frogs simultaneously. The trophy will unlock once you’ve safely delivered your first pair of frogs home.

  • Won a single player Battle Royale!

In order to win a Battle Royale match you need to drain your opponent's lives to zero before he drains yours. You’re tasked with collecting the ‘Lady Frog’ which will spawn somewhere on the map. Upon collection, it will grant you the ability to ‘crush’ your opponent, via jumping on top of him. A very simple game which is again easiest to win against a single computer opponent.

  • Every Challenge completed!

Challenge mode comprises of 20 stages, with each stage asking you to complete a range of different tasks, including attaining scores on a certain level, completing levels catching specific amounts of flies, or finishing paint stages within a set time for example. Naturally progress through the 20 challenges taking note of what criteria you must accomplish within each, ultimately earning yourself this trophy upon completion of challenge 20.
