Veteran Fisher Trophy in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

  • Veteran Fisher

    Fish 1,000 times.

    How to unlock Veteran Fisher

In order to begin fishing, you will need to gain the ability to switch classes. This is unlocked at level 10 via class quest for your specific job.

The class you specifically need to be is a Fisher. Fisher can be unlocked in Limsa Lominsa at the Fisherman's Guild on the docks in Lower Limsa Lominsa from a quest entitled "My First Fishing Rod."

In order to begin fishing you will need a Fishing Rod, which is obtained from the aforementioned quest.

You may also purchase a "Weathered Fishing Rod" under "Fisher Primary Weapon" from the Market Board.

Unlock the other gathering classes, fish also requires you to use different baits for different types of water. The baits are divided into freshwater, salt water, dunefishing, and skyfishing. Further sub-categories may be mentioned on the bait item itself, such as "this bait works best in lakes and rivers." Make sure you're bringing the proper bait to your fishing spot or you wont catch anything.

Once you obtain and equip the fishing rod and the appropriate bait, you may begin fishing.

In order to have a cast count towards the trophy, you must catch a fish. In the event that you use the level 25 ability called "Mooch," note that this only counts as one cast. You must catch a fish for it to count.

You may check the current amount of catches you have in your Fishing Guide.

To reach your fishing guide push
    Start >
    Logs >
    Fishing Guide

The number of current catches you possess will appear where the red circle is highlighted in the picture above.

A very important tip for fishing is that you should turn vibration on your controller. What this does for you is it causes the controller to vibrate when a fish is on the line and ready to reel in. Without vibration on, you will only know a fish is on the line from various splashing sounds and the fishing rod bending slightly in a hard-to-see animation.

In order to turn on vibration push
    Start >
    System >
    System Configuration >
    Controller Settings >
    Gamepad Settings >
    Enable vibration >
    click Apply

When you first enable vibration, you will feel a vibration test to let you know it's working.

The trophy should unlock after your 1,000th successful catch, however there are some reports that the trophy may not unlock at 1,000. If this happens, simply keep fishing. All reports indicate that continuing to fish unlocks the trophy.

Note* - Areas that have been effected and changed by expansion content do not count for this trophy. Check your achievements page and look for areas with fishing achievements directly tied to them. These are the areas you will want to fish in for this trophy.

  • This trophy glitched for me. Fished 1000 times and the trophy didn't pop :(
  • Pretty sure that for this to work, you need to fish in The Black Shroud, Thanalan or La Noscea. Seems to be keyed to the in-game achievements, which are all tied to those regions. In my case, the single fish trophy didn't pop for me after hundreds of fishing attempts in Coerthas or Mor Dhona. But it happened on the first one in The Black Shroud. Haven't tested, but I'm guessing this applies to all of the gathering trophies because of how they're structured.
  • the game dont keep track of the fish you fished in your 2 week free trial.
  • it keep track but they dont count for the trophy*
