As the description indicates, you need to deal 99,999 damage with a single attack. The number 99,999 itself needs to appear on the screen; the total damage from a multiple-hit skill such as Omega Javelin (ie. 25,000 damage x 4 hits) will not count.
Use Noel as the character controlled in battle, and make sure he has 800+ Attack Power (I earned this trophy when he was at 825 Attack Power). A maxed out Noel w/ Odinblade (Fragment Weapon obtained from Hope in exchange for the "Chaos Crystal" Fragment that can be bought from Serendipity) and 3x Power Wrists can easily break 1000+ Attack Power.
You also need to ensure that Noel has learned Impact Break and Break Burst skills from the Crystarium. These latent skills allow him to deal a massive amount of damage in a single hit as a Commando, but the timing is a bit tricky; Noel needs to be attacking the monster (with the command "Attack") at the time when the monster recovers from being Staggered.
Once Noel is in the area of 800-1100 Attack Power and has learned Impact Break and Break Burst, you need to find an enemy with A LOT of HP. A couple candidates recommended are final form of the last boss (refer to Chronosavior ) or alternatively, Long Gui in Archylte Steppe. Stagger the enemy until it's at 999%, hit it with Deprotect for good measure to lower its defense, then initiate a series of 5x Attack commands with Noel 2-3 seconds before the enemy recovers from Stagger. If the enemy has Deprotect on it, Noel has enough Attack Power under his belt and also knows Impact Break and Break Burst, and if the timing of his attacks coincide correctly with the moment the enemy recovers from Stagger, you'll be delighted to see a 99,999 damage hit and a Gold Trophy at the end of the battle. If it didn't work, Retry the battle and/or grind more for even higher Attack Power.
It's also possible that you'll obtain this trophy the way I did - on complete accident. As I mentioned earlier, Noel had 825 Attack Power and both Impact Break and Break Burst, and I happened to deal 99,999 damage randomly in a battle against Odin Dusk, a boss in Vile Peaks, while I was collecting all the Fragments.
I got this while fighting the Twilight Odin for the second time. I had somewhere near 400-500 str with noel. Build up Odin's stagger to near max, had bravery/faith on. After that just auto-attacked, when he was near his stagger end, I performed the land ending stagger attack(not smite) and got 99,999. :D
This can also be done with pets. If your too strong and taking out Long Qui faster than the stagger is ending. Just send your pet for me it was Chichu's meteorite. I was about to kill Long Qui before his stager stage was not even half way done yet. I got 99999 with him, Chichu 1078 Str., and Role Resonance passive ability.
I got this with my Chichu pet which was level capped and had bonus abilities from a LV.26 Tonberry. Get the Long Gui down onto its knees, power-up your team and debuff Long Gui, at this point, stagger it till 999% and use Chichu's Feral Link, it will easily cause 99999 damage in one attack. Still trying to farm those damn Adamantites...
Got this while fighting Fomoire in Archlyte Steppe (the huge C'ieth) while the weather was stormy.
The monsters I used were a Pulse Gladiator (SEN) and Microchu (SYN). He hits like a truck, so I started out with COM/RAV/SEN and built up his stagger meter. Once he got close to stagger, I switched to SAB/SAB/SEN and threw Deprotect and Deshell on him while my Microchu buffed everyone up.
The debuffs I kept putting on him pushed him over the stagger threshold, and I switched to COM/RAV/SYN. At this point, you have to manual-select your commands because the auto-select will spam Ruin. Keep selecting Attack to launch him into the air, and keep hammering away... switch to a COM/RAV/RAV if you have extended durations on your SYN buffs.
Make sure Noel has Bravery, Fomoire has Deprotect, t
Got this fighting Garuda at Vile Peaks 200AF. I had bravery cast on Noel, strength at about 1000 or so and the Garuda at 750% stagger with deprotect but its easy to play around with those "settings" and any monster with a high enough amount of HP will do. Just 4 trophies away from platinum now :)
