Is an Online Pass required?: The game ships with one, but necessity to use it removed by Ubisoft.
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is a 2013 historical action-adventure open world video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It is the sixth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series, a sequel to 2012's Assassin's Creed III modern story and a prequel to its historical storyline.
A new aspect in the game is the ship the player will captain, the Jackdaw. The Jackdaw is upgradeable throughout the game, as well as being on hand for easy access when needed. In addition, a new underwater component has been added. An updated form of the recruit system introduced in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood has returned, allowing Edward to recruit crew members. While Kenway's crew will remain loyal to him and can be promoted to captain acquired ships, they cannot assist in combat or perform long-range assassinations as in previous games.
In the present day, at the Abstergo Entertainment offices in Montreal, Quebec, players will engage in modern day pirating through the exploring of Abstergo's offices, including activities such as hacking and puzzle-solving all without combat.
It's an easy platinum, with an amazing single player that is enjoyable and shouldn't give you any trouble with getting all the trophies. It is the multiplayer that will require lots of hours to reach level 55, which can become quite boring if you're boosting.
Step 1: Complete the Story Mode
During this step you should play through the story while trying to complete all the optional constraints of the main missions. You should also try to get the miscellaneous trophies, namely Hungover , Silence, Fool! , Owned , Killer Killer , Help A Brother Out , Help A Brother Out , Sea Legs , King Of The Castle , Employee Of The Month , Business And Pleasure ,Mer-man , Thug Life , Cannon fodder , Roped In , Sharing Is Caring , All Aboard! .
You also shouldn't ignore many ships because you will need lots of money later. For this, you should board every ship you come across, at least the ones with lots of Metal, Sugar and Rum.
You will definitely have these trophies by the time you finish this step:
Heroes Aren't Born
Good While It Later
A Pirate's Life For Me
Death Of A Salesman
Mixing Up The Medicines
The Hammer Falls
A New Hope
My Elusive Fortune
Been Down So Long...
Just Like Starting Over
Saw That One Coming...
Getting Weird Around Here
It's All Good
Step 2: Clean Up and Miscellaneous Trophies
By the time you finish the Story you should have most if not all of the miscellaneous trophies. But if you don't, now is the time to complete all the side missions you need, find all collectibles and get all those misc trophies.
The only collectibles needed to get the platinum are the 16 Mayan Stelae. You will also need to complete all 15 Naval Contracts side quests, as well as complete at least one Templar Hunt.
You will get the following trophies during this step:
Help A Brother Out
King Of The Castle
Employee Of The Month
Business And Pleasure
Devil Of The Caribbean
Seven Deadly Seas
Ghost In The Machine
Sharing Is Caring
Wild West Indies
Step 3: Getting 100% in every Main Mission
If you haven't got this trophy yet, now is the time. With so much game experience and with everything fully upgraded you shouldn't have any problem.
After this step you should have the following trophy:
By The Book
Step 4: Multiplayer
This is the final step to get your shiny new platinum.
As you play to level 55 I would recommend you keep track of the abilities and ranged weapons you have been using for "All Rounder" to avoid extra work afterwards.
In my opinion the best way to level up fast is doing private sessions of Wolfpack. See "Committed to The Cause" for more info and tips. If you would like to boost it instead, here is the link to the boosting thread.
After this step you will have the following trophies:
Committed to The Cause
Personal Bag Of Tricks
Master Of The Caribbean
Prizes, Plunder, and Adventure!
[PST would like to thank jvaferreira for this Roadmap]
Approximate amount of time to platinum: 1 hour (boosting), 2 hours (without)
Minimum number of playthroughs: 2 Wolfpack, 1 Domination (maybe 1 more for Elevator to the Gallows)
Number of missable trophies: 0
Glitched trophies: 0
Do cheat codes disable trophies?: No cheats available
Is an Online Pass required?: The game ships with one, but Ubisoft removed the need for it
The Blackbeard's Wrath DLC is the first piece of DLC available for Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag and is available on both PS3 and PS4, Xbox also if that is your thing. It can be bought from the PS Store for €2.99/£2.79/$2.99 or downloaded for free if you have the Season Pass (€19.99/£17.99/$19.99). The DLC gives you access to three new characters, the infamous pirate Blackbeard, The Jaguar, an Aztec Templar and The Orchid, the stone-hearted pirate queen.
The four trophies available in this DLC are 1 bronze trophy and 3 silver trophies that were part of the trophy list initially released with the game. Unfortunately all trophies cannot be boosted in private matches so therefore it is more difficult to boost some of the trophies as a result. Queen Anne's Revenge and Preemptive Strike can be done in solo Wolfpack, Elevator to the Gallows can be done in private matches but the trophy that may prove the most difficult, Sacred Land has to be done in public matches. However you can try and boost the latter two in clan matches which are easier to organise. If you wish to find a boosting partner click here for PS3 and click here for PS4
Note: This game was played on the PS4 version
Step 1: "Queen Anne's Revenge" and "Preemptive Strike"
These two trophies can be done in solo Wolfpack mode on any map (I recommend Saba Island). Firstly you will need to be on the required level to unlock these abilities, lvl 28 for sabotage and lvl 38 for guns, you will need to make to 2 different ability classes for this since the gun and sabotage both take up the same slot in the loadouts and it will take at at least 2 games to get these trophies since you have to do them as different characters. It may take less since you can quit the game once you earn the trophy. Preemptive Strike may take more games depending on how successful you are. These trophies can also be done in public matches but will most likely prove more difficult against real players instead of AI. I personally did it in solo Wolfpack.
Queen Anne's Revenge Preemptive Strike
Step 2: "Elevator to the Gallows" and "Sacred Land"
For these two trophies you can do them in public matches. For Elevator to the Gallows you will need to be lvl 26 to unlock the Booby Trap, you can do this in private matches but it is easy to do in public matches like manhunt whereas Sacred Land has to be done in a public Domination match. I did both in public matches but if you would like you can find people to boost with in the Boosting threads for your respected platform, >PS3< and >PS4<
Elevator to the Gallows Sacred Land
[PST Would Like to Thank mullinavat for this Roadmap]
Freedom Cry DLC:
Estimated trophy difficulty: 3/10
Offline trophies: 6 (3, 2, 1)
Online trophies: 0
Approximate amount of time to platinum: 4-6 hours
Minimum number of playthroughs: 1
Number of missable trophies: 0 (Mission replay and free roam)
Glitched trophies: 0
Does difficulty affect trophies?: No difficultly
Do cheat codes disable trophies?: No cheats
The Freedom City DLC is the second piece of DLC and the first Single-player DLC available for Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag and is available on both PS3 and PS4, Xbox also if that is your thing. It can be bought from the PS Store for €9.99/£7.99/$9.99 or downloaded for free if you have the Season Pass (€19.99/£17.99/$19.99). The DLC adds a new SP story centred around Adéwale, the former first-mate of Edward Kenway’s Jackdaw. It takes place 15 years after the events of Black Flag. Adéwale, now a fully trained assassin, is shipwrecked on the island of St. Dominque (modern day Haiti). A former slave himself, Adéwale is confronted with a brutal and thriving slave trade of the area.
The DLC follows Adéwale as he attempts to escape the island. The more he interacts with the locals though, the more he is drawn into a budding revolution. You also get two new weapons to play with, Adéwale’s machete and blunderbuss, a new ship to sail, the Experto Credo and some new side activities such as freeing slaves from plantation, slave ships etc. all for the betterment of Adéwale's people. Also as a result of freeing slaves you can unlock new upgrades to use.
The five trophies available in this DLC are 3 bronze trophy, 2 silver trophies and 1 gold that were part of the trophy list initially released with the game. All these trophies should cause no problems and generally consist of doing all the objectives during the main missions, freeing slaves and one combat related trophy.
Note: This game was played on the PS4 version
Step 1: Complete the main story and 100% sync on main missions
Here you should focus on doing all the main story missions and getting 100% sync in them. You will most definitely get Liberation Day along the way and His Word Was “Perhaps” for completing all main missions. Most of the secondary objectives are pretty easy and should cause no trouble but if you mess up you can always restart checkpoint to try again. If you aim to get 100% in all main missions here then you should get His Own Medicine since this is an optional objective for the final mission and His Full Attention since you only need to get 100% in the main missions for the trophy.
If you’d like to you can try for the and go for all the other trophies like Seeds of independence since you will come across many opportunities to free slaves and freeing slaves is needed to progress in the game. You will most likely come across a situation for Firepower during your play time.
By the end of this step you should have: Liberation Day His own medicine His Word Was “Perhaps” His Full Attention
Step 2: Clean up
Here you can focus on freeing extra slaves you may need and working on Firepower if you haven't got it If you haven’t already you can replay main missions to get 100% sync since you only need to get 100% sync in the main missions for the trophy.
At the end of this step you should have these trophies and your 100% for this DLC. Firepower Seeds of independence
[PST Would Like to Thank mullinavat for this Roadmap]
You don't have to get 100% completion to get this trophy, you only need to get 100% completion on the 13 Sequences that are story related. This means that you are not only aiming to complete the mission but to complete all the optional objectives as well. Most of the objectives are pretty simple, sometimes the hardest part is noticing objectives popping on-screen. To make sure you don't miss any I would recommend you press any time you enter a new stage of the mission to see if there any new objectives.
Do not worry if you miss some objectives though, every mission is repayable. Just keep in mind that you will have to complete the whole mission for the objective to count. If you leave a mission halfway through, the objectives you done on that playthrough will reset. Unlike previous games, objectives stack so if you complete an objective once you won't have to do it again on subsequent replays.
There are some missions that can cause a bit of trouble, especially the stealth missions and early naval missions where the Jackdaw isn't upgraded yet.
This can be done wherever a warehouse is. Warehouses are at farms and have a restricted area around them (shown with red color on the map).
Once you enter the restricted area you should see the alarm bell on your HUD. Get noticed by an enemy and wait for him to ring the bell. Quickly kill him with a melee attack after he starts ringing the bell to unlock this trophy. You can also do this at warehouses that have already been looted.
Completing most locations is not that difficult, you just need to collect all chests, song sheets, animus fragments, secrets and Mayan Artifacts in an area.
If you don't want to waste time completing a big location, the easiest would be an island called "Florida" at coordinates 409,815. Florida has very few of them. Synchronize the viewpoint, collect the two animus fragments, open the treasure chest, and pick up the bottle message to unlock this trophy.
To unlock the door you need to collect all 16 Mayan Stones, all of them are located on locations that you need to visit to get the Cartographer trophy so you just need to make sure to pick them up every time you visit one. After you reach a location and synchronize a view point every collectible will appear on the location's map. To get the Stone you'll need to complete a mini game.
There are two locations on the game where you can find Killer Whales, (120,496) and (449,440). But first you should liberate the fort to see the symbol on the map. To improve your surviving chances you should first upgrade your harpooning.
Templar Hunts are shown by an Assassin symbol on the map. These missions become available after you meet the Assassins on sequence 4. There are four Templar Hunts but you only need to complete one. Their locations are:
Forts appear on the world map as red castles and to capture them you'll need to shoot down its defenses, dock your ship, enter the fort and kill your targets. Forts act as a viewpoint and will make parts of the map visible, they also reveal the location of every collectible in that area.
This trophy is pretty easy and you should get it by just playing the game. The full list of challenges can be found under "Abstergo challenges" on the pause menu. I got the trophy before reaching sequence 3.
This one should come naturally. Plundering ships is the fastest way to earn money and you'll need tons of it to buy all the upgrades for the Jackdaw so you'll probably have more than 30 just going for it.
If you don't, the best place would be in the north plundering Schooners and Briggs. To plunder a ship you'll have to weaken it first until you hit the red zone, approach it and hold .
To fully upgrade the Jackdaw you'll need tons of money, metal and wood. I would recommend to plunder every ship you see that has these materials, especially metal. On top of these you'll also need the elite plans. Below is a list of the locations of the plans, but you can't dig the treasure without a map.
All the maps can be found at the locations you need for Cartographer, except one, the Elite Fire Barrel Storage, which can only be obtained by playing Kenway's Fleet mini-game.
Elite swivel guns: underwater shipwreck (488,353)
Elite set of cannons: The Blue Hole (471,170)
Elite fire barrels: San Juan (479, 487)
Elite harpoon: Andreas Island (579, 720)
Elite heavy shot storage: Petite Cavern (901, 263)
Elite heavy shot: Misteriosa (307, 195)
Elite fire Barrel Storage 4: Isla Providencia (502, 44)
There are a total of 8 taverns that need to be unlocked. You simply walk up to the barkeeper, watch a short cutscene and beat up the bandits. You can see the taverns on your map if you synchronize the viewpoints for the respective area.
The tavern locations and their coordinates are as follows:
I would save this trophy for last since the hideout is kind of useless and you'll need loads of money to buy all the upgrade. This trophy is similar to upgrading the city if Monterigioni in Assassin's Creed II.
The upgrades are:
Harbour master's office
You'll need around 90,000 Reales to buy everything.
There are 52 locations that count for this trophy, they are the ones that have their own name and icon. For the location to count you must, at least, visit enough viewpoint to see the notification "Fast Travel Unlocked".
You will need to reach at least Sequence 10 to be able to get this trophy.
This trophy is extremely luck based, it can be one of your first trophies or you'll have to put tremendous amounts of time towards it.
There are three types of discovery: Chest, Royal Convoy and White Whale.
To get this trophy you must be logged in to PSN, as well as Uplay and connected to Ubisoft's servers. You can tell if you're all connected by having a white "WiFi signal" icon in the bottom left of the screen.
When you discover events, a notification pops up saying it has shared the location with friends. This is done automatically and you don't have to interact with the event, that means you don't have to kill, plunder or loot any of them.
The spawn locations are set (see map below) but the places where they respawn are apparently random. You can increase your chances of finding one by having someone on your friends list playing the game, however some people have been able to get the trophy without friends playing too. You can find people here.
Please note that the discoveries don't spawn on the same people for everyone, there are different sets running in different servers. For example, when you are checking places where other people successfully found something but there is nothing there for you. It might mean you are on a different server/set.
There's no way of knowing which server you're logged on IMO. So my best guess is:
1. Head over to the location of a social discovery.
2. If you don't find the said finding, exit single player (SP) and log-in to multi player (MP).
3. Exit MP and log-in back to SP.
4. Rinse repeat step 1, 2 and 3.
Also worth pointing out, if you find a social discovery, do not leave that server. You're more likely to find other social discoveries while logged in to that server.
This is a luck-based trophy since your crew can die quite easily.
To get the trophy you must board the ship, you can't take all the crew with the swivel guns.
To get this trophy you have to board a ship with at least 10 crew members, so you should go for a Brigg. Start the boarding and kill the enemy crew until there are only 1 or 2 left, then quickly use a rope to get on the other ship before your crew does and quickly kill the enemy using your pistols.
This trophy should be done as soon as possible while you still need crew members because once you get the maximum number of crew members, these events will stop appearing.
If you already have the maximum number of crew members, I would recommend boarding a Man o' War and just stand there watching while your crew gets butchered.
Now go to a big town like Kingston or Havana and look for some captured pirates, once you find them hire a group of dancers and press for them to distract the guards.
Here is a video of this trophy from PowerPyx:
In addition to this you can repeat "Now Hiring" (Sequence 3, Mission 1). There are also at least 2 set places where you can distract guards who are guarding hostages and those locations reset after a bit of time as well in case you screw it up. You can just replay it whenever you want and don't have to worry about having a full crew. Credit goes to CaptainNick for this tip.
For this trophy you'll first need to completely upgrade Kenway's holsters. You can hunt the required animals or buy the items required for crafting at any general store. You should also buy the "cannon-barrel pistol" to get one-shot kills.
Now all you need is to find a group of at least four or board a ship, select your weapons and press four times without aiming. If you're lucky enough each shot should kill an enemy, if not there are plenty of opportunities.
This should be your very first trophy. During the first mission you will find Stede Bonnet, before getting on the ship and leaving the island there is a corpse with a treasure map near where he was being held. Interact with the body and use the map, the treasure is in an alcove with an underground river.
Warning! There have been people that somehow skipped level 55 directly to Prestige, this might happen if you get XP outside a match, since you get the trophies when in-game, it may also happen if you receive a bonus, such as the Daily Bonus/First Match of the Day. If this happens all you can do is go for Prestige 1 level 55, and hopefully it will unlock then.
This is the most boring and time-consuming trophy, unless you love to play the multiplayer part of the game. To reach level 55 you'll need 526,000 XP.
To best way to level up is to play the Wolfpack Mode. To successfully reach the highest level you have to go slow and get the maximum points for each kill. Each sequence has a point target which you must reach in order to get to the next one. So if you go slow and manage to get 1000 points that gets you to the next sequence, it is much better than running to your target and getting 10 x 100 points kills, which is much slower.
To get the maximum points you should always go for Perfect approach(450) + Focus(150) + Hidden(x2). This should give you around 1000-1200 pts per kill.
You also should try and complete challenges since they give a big boost to the XP earned, such as "kill X enemies with Y ability", or "kill X enemies in Y way". Once you get Killstreaks you should also use them because even they don't give any particular help on this mode, they also have challenges tied to them. The challenges can be checked by pressing twice and going to the "Challenges" tab.
You should first complete all standard maps to get a challenge and then you should make the leap to "Difficult" setting, I found Santa Lucia and Sabo Island to be the easiest maps because of the location of the chests on the Defense sequence.
Note: You can purchase the Copycat perk and copy the abilities of the person who kills you and the ability copied counts towards the trophy so, you don't have to buy them all. However you never know which ability you are going to get from random players, the best option is to get a boosting partner and buy half the abilities each, then use Copycat to trade the other half with your partner using Copycat.
Domination is the best option as you can end the match early by capturing all the areas as opposed to having to wait for the time limit to go down. Thanks to Darth_Krid for these tips.
To get this trophy you will first need to find a Tavern; see Barfly for their locations. To get the trophy you will need to walk to the bar and interact with the bottle, and keep drinking until Edward passes out.
This can prove to be a troublesome trophy but if you know what to do it can be made easy. To get this trophy you need to be the highest scoring player on the winning team while playing as The Jaguar in a Domination game. If you don’t get The Jaguar character you can just quit the game and search again. Once you get into a game you can try for the trophy. Domination is a game mode where you earn points by capturing and holding points to win the game and killing and stunning enemies also helps. What I found as the best tactic is to be aggressive, head to every point that is not captured and once they are captured try and kill any enemies in the area. It tends to be the kills and stuns that will get you the points to better your teammates. Abilities like Morph and Bodyguard are helpful when capturing points since you can't kill enemies when in their captured points so hiding is your best bet. At the end of the game if you have won and have the most points you shall get your trophy.
There is a method that may make this easier, it is to have 4 people and make two clans with 2 people in each and then search for domination in clan matches, since not many people play clan matches the odds of you coming across your boosting partners is increased making the trophy easier for you. Of course you can do this with up to 8 people having 4 in each clan. Credits to UnleashTheCASEY and Deza for finding this method.
This is what the Jaguar character looks like incase you have difficulty finding him:
Firstly you will need to be level 38 to unlock the gun ability, once you have it equip it to a loadout. Enter a solo Wolfpack match on Saba Island with the Blackbeard character. Once your first “Defend the chest” wave occurs head to chest A and hang from the wall near it. Once an enemy goes to loot the chest kill him via your acrobatic position and then head to chest B and there should be an easy gun kill for you with another enemy looting chest B. Do this in 10 seconds and you should have the trophy.
If there is no ledge to hang from for an acrobatic kill then you can use a wall or any sort of vertical surface nearby. Target the enemy with , run up the wall by him, and then as you're in the air, immediately pull the analog stick in his direction and press . Credit to Eternal21 for finding this alternate method for an acrobatic kill
You will need to use the Orchid character and the sabotage ability, unlocked at level 28. Enter into a solo Wolfpack mode, the map isn't important but Saba Island is always good. In order to fulfil the requirements for this trophy you must use the sabotage ability on an enemy before they use an ability.
The best place to do this is during the “Defend the Chests” waves where the enemies who loot the chest use an ability to become invisible, glimmer. Use the sabotage ability on them by pressing and when you get close to them where they would usually go invisible they won’t since you blocked their abilities. It won’t work if you do it after they use their abilities. If you did that action successfully then you should her an "eeeeeee" sound.
You can also do this on enemies during the infected rounds, the enemies are typically aggressive and tend to use the animus ability once they notice you so you could also make the infected enemies notice you and then use the sabotage ability before they use their ability. Any enemies in red also can use abilities and tend to use them once they notice you so using sabotage before that will also work.
In theory you could do this in one game but you will most likely mess up the timing so more games will be needed to get the full 10.
You can also get the sabotages in Discovery Mission 6, it works the same as the "Defend the Chests" waves in Wolfpack.
This is what the Orchid character looks like incase you have difficulty finding her:
This can be boosted in private matches but if you wish to do this in public you can. Firstly you must have the Booby Trap ability unlocked at level 26. Enter into a public Manhunt match and if you are the prey head to a lift and place a booby trap on it by pressing /, use the lift and stand at the top, eventually some poor soul will try to kill you by using the lift and will meet their demise.
For this trophy you need to liberate 500 slaves which can be gotten from the second memory onwards. From there you can run around towns liberating 3-5 slaves in random encounters similar to the main game however plantation are your best bet. Each plantation gives you up to 30 or 40 slaves depending on how far you have progressed into the story. There are three plantations on the first island and then another couple throughout the map. The biggest groups are from slave ships, unlocked after the 4th mission. They have ninety slaves on them, focusing your efforts on them can get you this trophy rather quickly. You will need to free a certain number of slaves to progress in the game anyway. It would be to your advantage to save slaves anyway since it unlocks upgrades for you to purchase Once you save your 500th slave the trophy should pop.
You get the blunderbuss in the mission 3. Go into Port Au Prince, get a group of guards after you (at least 5) and run away. Lure the guards around the corner of a building, turn around and as they all come into view free aim with and fire with at the group.
Also if you get a group to chase you, you can run into a slave auction where all the enemies there will attack you as well. Once they are all in a group throw a smoke bomb and fire at the group. You could also lead them to the main gate of the gouverneur’s mansion since the gate has a narrow opening the enemies will all funnel through there making them group together easily.
There is also two good opportunities during the last story mission:
Get to the gouverneur’s mansion and watch the quick little cut scene, there will be a checkpoint after it. Four guards will be at the main entrance and as soon as you enter combat a bunch more will come running out. It may take a few tries but you should be able to get a good shot off taking out 5 guards.
There is also another chance in this mission, when you chase the gouverneur and he eventually stops there will be 7 other guards in a group waiting to be shot by your blunderbuss.
To achieve 100% sync you need to get 100% in all the main missions, that is fulfilling all the optional objectives. The missions are:
Memory I - The Calm Before The Storm
Memory II - A Common Enemy
Memory III - Laying The First Brick
Memory IV - A Ship of His Own
Memory V - Lifting The Veil
Memory VI - A Scientific Inquiry
Memory VII - Plant The Seeds
Memory VIII - Down with the ship
Mission IX - de Fayet's Last Stand
A 100% mission guide can be found below or you can click here
This trophy can be earned in the final mission and is an optional objective to get 100% sync in that mission. Details in spoilers:
During the final mission a chase sequence will occur with Gouverneur, run after him but do not tackle him. Eventually he will stop and fight, here you must equip your fists, when he attacks counter and disarm him (counter with O and disarm with X) which will give you the branding iron and you can then proceed to beat him with it
