Introduction:

The game is the sequel to the 1986 game Wonder Boy and takes place eleven years after the events in the previous game. After enjoying over a decade of peace on Wonder Land following the defeat of the evil King by Tom-Tom, later bestowed the title "Wonder Boy", a fire-breathing dragon called the MEKA dragon appeared; he and his minions conquered Wonder Land, turning it into "Monster Land". The people, helpless due to their lack of fighting skill, call for Wonder Boy, now a teenager, to destroy the monsters and defeat the MEKA dragon. Players control Wonder Boy through twelve linear levels as he makes his way through Monster Land to find and defeat the MEKA dragon. Players earn gold by defeating enemies and buy weapons, armor, footwear, magic, and other items to help along the way.

Important Notes Before Starting

Before starting the game, it's very important to map the controls to suit your play style; by default :square: and :circle: are used to jump while :cross: and :triangle: are used to attack. Personally, I used :cross: to jump and :square: to attack.

There is also another move which is not mapped to any key and that is the rapid :left::right: trick. This move is very important, because it'll help you make a lot of gold which is needed to buy all of the necessary equipment and spells. But how does the trick work? It's simple - just use these buttons before stepping on or jumping on a spot where hidden treasure appears, and instead of obtaining 5-6 gold pieces, you will receive 65-68.

Sidequests and Helpful Items

There are a couple of sidequests that you can complete which will reward you with some particularly helpful items. Although only the flute quest pertains to a trophy, you can also obtain an Emblem and either a Bell or Ruby which will make certain parts of the games easier.

Once you play the tune with the flute and obtain the Music Maker trophy (refer to the Trophy Guide on how to unlock this,) a door will open leading into the mansion further to the right. Once inside here, you will need to defeat a blue knight to make a small platform appear. Just attack the knight with your sword while he is on the ground and move under him. When he jumps, turn around and strike him again.

Once he's down, a platform will appear. Hop on and hit  on your controller, and a door will be revealed. Behind the door, an old man will give you a charm and ask you to take it to the great Eal. He can be found in Round 10. As soon as you dive, hold :left: to land on the ledge - knock on the door a couple of times and after it's barred, the Great Eal will appear to give you the Emblem.

Just before entering the Dragon's Castle in Round 10, you'll see a bunch of doors. Enter the last visible door and you'll with the seer again. She will offer to exchange the Emblem with either the Bell or the Ruby.

The Bell will help you navigate through the maze (going the right way will make it ring) while the Ruby will make the final fight a bit easier. Choose either one and the sidequest is concluded.

Finding your way through the maze can prove tricky without the bell, and the dragon can be a bigger challenge without the Ruby, so walkthroughs and tactics can be found here: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyaF3BaOgn8&feature=channel&list=UL]WonderBoy in Monsterland Arcade Playthrough 9/9 - YouTube[/ame]

There is only one step involved in this Road Map.

Step 1: Start the game and complete it whilst collecting all of the miscellaneous trophies.

The save option will be your best friend. By pressing :select: at any point in the game, you can save your current position and load it again. This is particularly useful if you failed to obtain max gold from a hidden treasure or even if you want to build up your magic and the enemy drop didn't satisfy your needs. You will definetely need to make use of it when going for Congratulations! and You have become really sturdy! as selecting continue at any point will make these unobtainable.

The trophies that you will have at the end of this step are:

(G) Congratulations!

(S) Question: Who defeated me?

(S) You are a True Hero

(B) Welcome to Monster Land

(B) Ghost Slayer

(B) You are O.K.

(B) Spell Master

(B) Music Maker

(B) You have become really sturdy!

(B) Lost and Found

(B) Gold in the Clouds

(B) Treasure Hunter

Trophy Guide

27A.jpg  Congratulations! (G)

Clear the game without using any continues.

Self Explanatory. This is a lot easier than it sounds, as it can be achieved by saving and loading your previous save file should you die. Just make sure that you don't select "Continue."

89D.jpg  Question: Who defeated me? (S)

Defeat the Sphinx.

This is the boss of Round 6. He will ask you a question; in order to engage him in battle you must answer this question incorrectly. This is one is one of the toughest bosses in the game, so make sure that you stock up on magic on your way here. You can simply spam this, or you can defeat the Sphinx by jumping towards him and striking as soon as you deflect his lightning attack (you'll know when you've done this, as you'll hear it as it strikes your shield.)

If you want to make sure that you'll get the question wrong, make a save before entering his chambers and choose a different answer should you need to.

B7A.jpg  You are a True Hero (S)

Obtain all the Legendary Equipment.

If the rapid :left::right: trick has been put to good use, then you will have enough money to purchase all of the legendary equipment but the sword before your encounter with Sphinx. Keep in mind though that legendary equipment will not appear for sale in shops unless you have already bought equipment two tiers down. Here is what you will need to obtain:

Boots:

Cloth - 50 gold

Leather - 80 gold

Ceramic - 180 gold

Legend - 380 gold

Shields:

Light - 40 gold

Knight - 120 gold

Hard - 250 gold

Legend - 360 gold

Armour:

Light - 60 gold

Knight - 150 gold

Heavy - 100 gold

Hard - 360 gold

Legend - 540 gold

Great Sword - After fighting three sandmen in the caves of Round 5, you will see an "OH!" message appear on screen. Hit  on your controller and prepare to fight a secret boss, the Giant Kong. To defeat him, just keep going towards him and attack and as soon as he jumps over you, turn around and repeat. After you defeat him, you will receive the Great Sword.

Sword of Legends - In the cave of Round 8 and on a platform on your way down, hitting  on your controller will make another door open. This will unlock another secret battle with a Demon. This boss has a circle of fireballs rotating around him, which follows a pattern of increasing and then decreasing in size. When you see a safe opening, then is your chance to strike. Defeat the Demon to receive the Sword of Legends as well as the trophy.

000.jpg  Welcome to Monster Land (B)

Read the "Welcome to Monster Land" sign.

Just take two steps right after the game starts and Wonder Boy will automatically read the wooden sign in front of him.

202.jpg  Ghost Slayer (B)

Defeat a resilient Ghost.

These would be the blue little ghosts first met in the castle in Round 7. You can also find some in the maze in Round 12 as well. Just make sure to save first, as the Ghost takes a lot of hits to die and you will be losing hearts as time passes by. Just keep hacking away at it until it dies.

52D.jpg  You are O.K. (B)

Get a PERFECT for clearing a stage.

You have to exit the round having full health, which can easily be done on Round 1. You can lose health during the round, but can still obtain a "Perfect" rating if you finish with full health. If by any chance you lost some health, then there is a small heart hidden between the two trees just before the exit. Jump to make it appear.

D5C.jpg  Spell Master (B)

Use every type of magic.

You use spells by pressing  During your playthrough, enemies will drop all kinds of magic, but it can also be purchased from a shop. There are four kinds of spells which all need to be used: Bombs, Windspouts, Fireballs and Lightning.

EE9.jpg  Music Maker (B)

Play the flute somewhere with a view.

When you enter the cave in Round 2, you will receive the message "Someone be beyond the wall" when you jump onto the second platform over the lava. When you see this, press  and a door will open. A seer will then ask you to deliver a letter to her friend Catherine. She can be found in Round 4 in the town of Baraboro. Press  on the window just above the bar and you'll receive the flute. Now that you have the flute, you will need to find the "view" and play it.

After you fall from the clouds in Round 7, don't fight the area boss but keep going right where you'll see a ladder. Climb it, and Wonder Boy will automatically play a tune with the flute.

FD0.jpg  You have become really sturdy! (B)

Increase your LIFE to a max of 10 hearts.

You will need a score of 400,000 to max out your life and you should get it whilst going for the Congratulations! trophy. You're most likely to reach the score somewhere during the middle of Round 12. If you're a bit short, then you can grind monsters in the maze by deliberately going the wrong way and finding them over and over again.

D6A.jpg  Lost and Found (B)

Obtain equipment from a defeated enemy.

Don't fight the secret boss while descending the Round 8 cave (don't knock on his door,) and you will receive the Sword of Legends from the Giant Kong in the Round 10 underwater cave. Make sure that you save before fighting him, because there's a chance that he may not drop it the first time you beat him. If this happens, then reload your save until you obtain the sword.

To defeat him, just do what you did with the boss in Round 5. Keep going towards him and attack. As soon as he jumps over you, then turn around and repeat.

You can also obtain equipment from a fallen enemy on the Knights outside the Dragon's Castle in Round 11. I got two item drops here.

6A3.jpg  Gold in the Clouds (B)

Find all the gold hidden in the clouds of Round 7.

You start Round 7 on the ground and will need to ascend to the skies. Make sure that you purchase the Wing Boots from the first shop that you enter, but take note that these will not be for sale if you already have the Legendary Boots.

Wing Boots have a limited amount of jumps, so as soon as you buy them, don't jump until you actually need to at the moving platform. If you're careful with this, then you should have enough jumps to reach all of the clouds. Thanks goes to FakePlasticGooner for this information.

After speaking to the elephant guy on the far left, a platform will appear in the middle of the trees on your right which will take you to the clouds. Each cloud contains a hidden bag of gold, so make sure that you jump on every single one and collect each bag. The trophy will unlock as soon as you collect the final bag of gold.

751.jpg  Treasure Hunter (B)

Find 20 hidden items and/or gold.

There are spots in the game whereby treasure will appear if you jump on them. To give you an idea of where to start, the first secret is located on the tree to the left of where you start your adventure. Some areas contain three secret coins, each of which count towards the total.

Unfortunately, there is no definate way to identify these spots, but you will probably stumble upon more than enough of them during your playthrough to unlock the trophy.

Some more information for the 'Gold in the Clouds' Trophy.

I recently found out that the shop does not sell Wing Boots if you don't already have the Legendary Boots, so make sure you have those.

Also, many people think the Wing Boots have a time limit. This is not the case, they have a 'jump limit'. So as soon as you buy them, don't jump until you have to at the moving platform. You should then have enough jumps remaining when up in the cloud.

You don't need to have the Legendary Boots before the Wing Boots will be sold, but you DO need to have bought the Ceramic Boots. That's how I did it just yesterday.

The Lost and Found trophy is kind of confusing. Basically you have to make an actual piece of equipment drop outside of a boss fight. I managed to do this on a quick 2nd playthrough and not buying any equipment. I got the furry yeti guys on stage 5 to drop a pair of boots. If you miss this trophy on your first playthrough, don't hoard gold coins on a 2nd playthrough and it should come pretty easy due to your lack of equipment.

I'm not exactly sure how the gold trick thing works.

You push left and right quickly and then jump? How long do you push them for? I can't seem to find more info about this trick anywhere.

EDIT: Ok, I figured it out. You can map it to a button in the options.

Can be grind the money?

save often and when you find a spot that a coin spawns reload your save and do the money trick :)

i describe it in the guide

For the lostand found trophy, I followed this method found here --> Lost and Found achievement - XboxAchievements.com

I didn't buy any equipment in the shop, but I recommend buying a shield at least. I bought nothing and ended up getting the trophy after like 6 or 7 tries in the spot with the monkeys. I got some boots and the trophy. Credit goes to the person who found about it on x-box.
