Introduction:

Winter Stars is winter sports themed game that includes multiple sports in a single package. It includes: Bobsled, Snowboard Cross, Short Track, Biathlon, Freeride Skiing, Downhill Skiing, Sky Flying, Snowmobile, Curling, Paraskiing and Figure Skating. The game can be played with either a Dualshock or a Move controller, however, all controls in this guide will be that of a Dualshock.

The game does feature a lot of loading but on the positive side, it does also feature custom music so feel free to load up your favorite playlist from your PS3 Hard Drive and listen to your favorite tunes.

Walkthrough:

Step 1 - Start Career mode and win each cup and challenge.

From the Main Menu, start a career. You will have a map of events that you can play. You will need to win each cup and challenge. At this point avoid playing Family Mode, which does offer simplified controls, as you won't be able to earn event specific trophies for many of them. If you fail to win a cup, you will have to start over from the beginning of that cup. You do not have to win each event within the cup, just simply have the most points at the end of it. If you are down to the final event and need to win that final event in order to win the cup, you can return to the XMB and reload the game to be put back at the beginning of the event you exited from.

Try to earn as many event specific trophies along the way but don't worry if you are unable to get any of them as you can earn all of them from the training menu. You will need to upgrade each of your athletes abilities to pass some of the later cups and challenges.

Step 2 - Mop up

At this point you will have acquired the majority of the trophies in the game. You may need to go back and replay a few events if you missed any of the trophies during your Career. You can earn all of these in Training Mode which you can access from the Team menu. You will also need to record a time, and beat it, in Time Trial which you can access from Training Mode and changing it from Competitive to Time Trial.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/0D0.jpg (P) Platinum athlete

Win all the Trophies in Winter Stars.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/B64.jpg (B) Trick in

Perform and land a trick before sliding on a rail.

During a Snowboard Cross event, there are several opportunities to ride on a rail. You’ll need to hit the ramp in front of the rail, press  at the top of the ramp, then press the :rs: left, right, up or down to perform a simple trick and land on the rail.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/83E.jpg (B) Grabbing hands

Perform 3 grabs while sliding on a rail.

During the Snowboard Cross event, there is a rail ramp shortcut that puts you on an extremely long rail that will give you plenty of time to perform 3 grabs. To perform the grab, press and hold the :rs: left, right, up or down. Do this 3 times during a single rail to earn this trophy. The trophy will not pop until the end of this event.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/317.jpg (B) Magnetic rails

Slide on 4 rails within one race.

This is accomplished in a Snowboard Cross event. You will need to hit the ramp in front of the rail, press  at the top of the ramp and guide yourself towards the rail. Just look out for the ramps with the rail symbol and you should easily accomplish this. You will need to slide on four different rails within a single race.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/150.jpg (S) Versatile victory

Land each possible trick within one race and win.

Tricks can be performed on a few different events, and during a single event, you will need to land each possible trick. I found Freeride Skiing to be an easy event to do this on due to the high number of jumps. Tricks are performed by jumping off ramps, and pressing the trick button. There are two types of tricks: simple and difficult. Simple tricks are done by pressing the :rs: left, right, up or down. There is a different trick for each of those four. Difficult tricks are done by pressing :l1: plus :triangle:, :circle:, :cross:, or :square:. Difficult tricks will require you to have a little more height from the ground as the trick takes longer to perform. You will need to land each one for it to count.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/A38.jpg (B) Every trick in the book

Successfully perform each possible trick in the game.

You will need to perform all the tricks available for each of the events with tricks. The events with tricks are: Snowboard Cross, Freeride Skiing, Snowmobile and Paraskiing.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/1D7.jpg (B) No time to rest

After a crash, get back on track in less than 2 seconds.

The easiest way to crash is to perform a difficult trick on a small jump. This will most likely result in a crash. To get back on the track, rapidly press :cross: and if done fast enough, you will be put back on the track in under 2 seconds and this trophy will be yours.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/8FA.jpg (S) Accident-free

Win a bobsled race without collisions.

During a bobsled event, make it to the end without a collision. Collisions are caused by hitting the walls on either side. If you don’t get this during your career, go to training, select the first track and take it slow.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/100.jpg (B) Focused

Perfectly stay on the racing line in 4 bends in a bobsled race.

During the bobsled event, you will need to stay in racing line perfectly. During corners, you will see arrows that you will need to lineup with for the entire duration. If you turn the arrows green as you ride across for the entire duration, you will know you did it. Repeat this another three times during the same race.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/CFE.jpg (S) Catch up

Win a short track race without being in the lead in any but the last lap.

While playing a short track event, you must stay out of the lead the entire race until the final lap and then win the race. The hardest part is the very beginning. To avoid jumping into first place at the start, you will need to cause a penalty. When the game prompts you to hit :l2: and :r2: rapidly to build up speed, hit them, but at a slow pace to earn a penalty and this will keep you from jumping into the lead.

During the race, stay close behind and be careful not to accidentally take the lead. Build up your boost and save it until after the first corner of the final lap. This should propel you into the lead for the win and this trophy will be yours.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/8A7.jpg (B) Shadow

Completely fill the slipstream bar 4 times within one short track race.

To fill the slipstream, stay behind an opposing athlete until the green bar is full. Repeat this four times during this extremely short race for this trophy. There is an upgrade that fills slipstream quicker if you're having trouble.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/63B.jpg (S) Shooting star

Biathlon: enter the shooting range in 4th place, hit all targets, leave the shooting range as 1st.

During the Biathlon race, hang back in the rear until you get to the shooting range. From here you will need to quickly hit each of the five targets without missing. Use the :ls: to aim and hold :l2: to hold your breath to line up your shot. Shoot with :r2:. There is an upgrade available that will make aiming much easier if you’re having difficulties. You will need to be the first person to get up from the shooting range in order for this trophy to pop.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/2DF.jpg (S) Picky

Biathlon: hit only targets 1, 3 and 5 in lap 1, only targets 2 and 4 in lap 2 and win the race.

The Biathlon has two laps. During each lap you will come across a shooting range. The first lap you shoot from the prone, and from a standing position during the second lap. During the first shooting range section, hit the first, third and fifth targets and during lap two, only hit the second and fourth target. You will incur a penalty of five seconds for each missed shot. You will need to win the race for the trophy to pop. If you’re having trouble, upgrade your team member.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/EC6.jpg (B) Gateway

Cut 5 gates in a row in a downhill skiing race.

Cutting gates is done by hitting the flags while still on the track. You can’t cross the orange line. The first downhill race is the easiest to do this on. You don’t have to win the race so take it slow by braking with :l2: and cut five gates in a row.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/AE3.jpg (B) Adrenaline rush

Use adrenaline for 4 consecutive seconds in a downhill skiing race.

First you will need to build adrenaline. You build it by cutting the gates. Once your meter is full, hold :cross: to activate adrenaline. As long as your adrenaline meter is full and you hold :cross:, this trophy will pop.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/FAC.jpg (B) Crash-landing

Ski Flying: jump a distance of 220 m and crash.

This will be made easier if you upgrade your team member. You will need to jump at the end of the ramp with  and then steer your athlete with the :ls:. Steering is the key to longer distance. If you're not at the right angle, you will come up well short and you must not move in the air to get the required distance which is tough with the wind. To crash, simply don't press any buttons.

This is the one trophy that is made much easier by using a Move controller as you are able to keep your athlete still in the air and easily surpass the distance required.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/BBC.jpg (B) Immaculate inruns

Ski Flying: don't touch the sides of the track during the inrun on both attempts.

The inrun is the long ramp you speed down. You steer your athlete with the :ls: but many times you don't need to move at all. Use the red line as your guide. You will play this event many times and should easily be able to get this during your career.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/871.jpg (B) Finished symphony

Figure skating: sustain all notes within one event with perfect or super rating.

Figure Skating is nothing more than a series of quick time events. Sustains are indicated by a controller icon with a line coming from it. This will require you to hit the button at the appropriate time, and hold it for the duration of the sustain. You may have to replay this event a few times to get the timing and pattern down.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/D0B.jpg (B) No trouble without double

Figure skating: win an event without activating double mode.

Simply follow all the on ice quick time events and get perfect or super ratings on most of them and you should win this event easily. Double mode is activated by hitting :r2: so just simply avoid hitting that button and this should be easy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/63A.jpg (B) Show-off

Snowmobile: win a race crossing the finish line in reverse.

Using the :l2: will put you in reverse. As you are nearing the finish line, press both :l2: and :r2: to drift while turning your :rs: left or right. Once you have turned yourself sideways, hold :l2: to head in reverse. Be careful of the track boundaries as you will be reset back on the track heading the wrong way.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/156.jpg (B) Traction control deactivated

Snowmobile: accumulate a drifting time of 10 seconds within one race.

To drift, hold :l2: and :r2: while turning. This will put you in a drift. You do not need to drift for 10 seconds at one time but you do need drift a total of 10 seconds within one event. This should not prove difficult.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/89A.jpg (B) Last man standing

Curling: win an end without any of the opponent's stones in the house.

Simply knock out all of the opponents stones from within the circles while winning an end for this trophy. This will most likely come naturally during your career.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/1E1.jpg (B) Clean sweep

Curling: deliver a stone with low power and place it on the button by sweeping.

There is a power meter that appears when you’re pushing the stone. The white line between the two red markers is what you need to aim for when delivering the stone without needing to sweep, so just simply use less power and sweep the ice using :cross:. The more you sweep, the further your stone will travel so you may need a few attempts to get down how much power and/or sweeping you'll need to do.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/46E.jpg (B) Come around

Curling: curl a shot directly behind another stone in the house.

To do this you will need to put a spin on the stone when delivering it. Aim far right then push the :lsleft: to bend the arrow back to the center. You need to put your stone behind the opponents stone. It doesn’t need to be directly behind the opponents stone as the description will have you believe, but it does need to be behind it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/DB7.jpg (B) Double takeout

Curling: takeout 2 of the opponent's stones with one shot.

You will need to hit two opponents stones with one shot. Allow the other team to place a few stones in the house to give you a better shot of knocking out two of them. You will most likely need to acquire the upgrade that will improve your stone's ability to knock out the opponents stone before earning this. I earned this with two opponents stones lined up, one behind the other and used full power and swept the entire time to increase speed.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/7A2.jpg (B) Air ace

Paraskiing: accumulate an airtime of 90 seconds total within one race.

Use the ramps to launch yourself into the air and follow the wind. Use the :rs: to elevate yourself. This should come naturally during your many playthroughs of this event.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/B77.jpg (B) Long distance flight

Paraskiing: cover a distance of 500 consecutive meters while airborne.

This requires you to remain in the air for 500 meters. Keep your elevation up with the :rs:. During the first Paraskiing event, you should find a couple places to do this if you stick to the right side of the map about halfway through but this should happen naturally.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/0EC.jpg (B) Botanophile

Paraskiing: finish a race without touching any bushes or trees.

Just stay on track and play naturally. Make sure you don’t stay up in the air to long, come back to the snow and hit all the ramps. This will keep away from the trees and bushes.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/503.jpg (B) Gone with the wind

Paraskiing: fly through 6 gusts of wind in a row.

The key to Paraskiing, and getting good speed while up in the air, is to fly with the wind gusts. You will probably earn this one without realizing it as long as you aim for all the jumping ramps.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/F3C.jpg (B) Experienced

Accumulate 25 experience points within one event.

During a cup event, you will get 25 experience points for winning a race. This trophy is impossible to miss if you’re going for Platinum.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/6D8.jpg (B) Rivalry

Tackle your rival 5 times within one race.

You will need to jostle your rival, the Black Knights, five times within one race. They are the ones that are highlighted in the color red. To jostle, hit the :rs: in their direction when you are next to them. The best two events to earn this on is Biathlon and Short Race.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/B14.jpg (B)Beat yourself

Beat a ghost you have recorded in time trial.

From the Training Menu, change the Game Type from Competition to Time Trial. The quickest event is Short Track. Establish a really horrible time and then replay the event to easily beat your ghost and earn this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/C69.jpg (B) Yin

Earn three golden fairplay stripes.

Golden airplay stripes are earned by finishing a race without jostling. Simply don’t jostle until this trophy pops. When you earn a stripe, you will gain adrenaline faster.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/220.jpg (B)Yang

Earn three black fairplay stripes.

Black fairplay stripes are earned by jostling with the opponents. Tap the :rs: towards your opponent when you are next to them to jostle. Keep doing this during a race and you will be well on your way to earning the black stripes.

This is the final cup you play through during your career. During your career path, you will need to win all the cups to progress. If you finish second, you will need to start over. Become proficient at each of the events, upgrade your characters by spending experience points that you earned and use training to help become better at the events.

The key to most of the events is earning adrenaline. You earn adrenaline by doing different things and each of the tutorials for the games will let you know what you need to do. If you are having any issues, you can turn on Family Mode to make things much easier.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1289/858.jpg (B) Teambuilding

Win 3 Cups in the first chapter of the career.

During your career, you will notice several challenge events on the map that you can select. Challenges are nothing more than playing the same events and doing a task alongside it, such as collecting coins or doing a certain number of tricks. Simply complete all of the challenges to earn this trophy. The trickiest ones are probably the Curling ones. This will require precision in placing stones in specific spots. Just keep playing with speed and curve. You can achieve all of them without needing to sweep.

Had the same exact problem, i was at first trying to jostle every chance i got the entire race with my rival. The way i got it to pop, turned off system, loaded back up and started a short race on 2nd hardest difficulty, i jostled my rival. First 3 jostles the announcer states something which gives your 5xp i believe. 4th one he doesnt say anything, i had the upgrade to allow 4 jostles. then the 5th one i got a penalty. STOP at 5. you exceed 5, it won't pop....well not for me at least.

Tried this method, it popped 1st trey for me.

Hope it helps mate :)

Any tips on the "Untouchable" Challenge? Place the stone on the marked place without thouching any stationary stones (curl)

Can i though the green stones, or just none of them?

I just did the Untouchable challenge, and you must not touch any stones. What you need to do is to aim almost completely to the right and then while deciding strength turn it against left so it almost face in the middle. The strength should be around end of second red line. Just try and try, and you will get the hang of it eventually and then get lucky and make it in the end! :p

The next one is a bit less about luck and more about precision. What I did was to start aim a little to the right for the yellow one at the right side (see the person behind the yellow one being a bit to the right of it). When I load the strength, I first aim, and I aim at the yellow ball at the left. The second thing I do when I load the strength is to make sure it stops where I want it to stop, we want it to stop at exactly between the white and the blue. Now just repeat it mirrored on the other side. Then You got two shots left, it should be easy to make one stop at the last spot! :) With this technique it took me about three attempts.

EDIT:

Beat a ghost you have recorded in time trial.

Should probably be "Short track".

I am doing perfect runs against the biathlon boss challenge and I still lose every time. Any advise. Thanks

Purchase upgrades!

Biathlon is extremely easy to win at, but I think if you have a hard time and do perfect runs you need to upgrade your gear. It will make you faster, go faster up hills and earn more boost when sitting going downhill, even make it easier to shoot.

The same goes for every other boss. I couldn't beat most of them without full upgrade.

How do you get black stripes, Ive been jostling like a mad man and I do get a ton of deducted stripes for it but I have yet to get any black stripes.

Can you earn black stripes in competitive training?

This was my last trophy as well. What I did was to play tournament mode where short track was first level. Then just hit everyone all the time, and finished. After that I quit the tournament and started it all over. :) Might be it will take you like 6 attempts, because I think it starts at 0, then can go up to +3 (light), and u need -3 (dark). :) Anyways, these short tracks stuff took me a couple of minutes each, so perhaps 10-15 minutes to get the trophy? =P

The Roadmap states that "you can play on EASY" and i ask what does it mean? Because you can't change difficulty in the game. The game changes it for you as you progress through career mode.

lol yes that is true and I was wondering about that myself at one point but there is no way to change difficulty
