Road Map

Introduction: WET is a game about a woman named Rubi and her exploits as an assassin. She is tenacious, sarcastic, angry and almost always drunk. You play as Ruby and carry out her blood-thirsty quest for money and/or vengeance. Sounds cool, right? Well, unfortunately, the execution (pun intended) leaves much to be desired. The game-play in WET is a limited and very monotonous combination of platforming and “matrix-style” gunplay. If you go for this platinum, you will endure the endless drone of constant gunshots that is accompanied by background music that sounds like it was made from a garage band of 12-year-olds. Add to the mix some pretty crappy controls and a mediocre story and you’ll find yourself very frustrated very quickly. Ironically, all this adds up to you relating more with your in game character as you progress through the game. Now, this game is not without any redeeming value. There are sections that handle well enough and occasionally you’ll enjoy a funny/interesting cut-scene. Moreover, by the end of your platinum run, you’ll have mastered the quirks of the game and it won’t seem that frustrating. Sadly, this seems more like a consolation prize than an honest reward. No matter how you cut it, this game will take some time to plat. Below I’ve organized how I think the best way to go about doing this is.

Step 1: Play through Story Mode on Fixer (Hard) difficulty. There is not much more to say here. I personally followed the Monkey Toy collectible guide for this play-through so I wouldn’t have to worry about it ever again. Honestly, that can wait, since this run will primarily be a massive crash course in how to play this game. Here are some things that you should keep in mind for this run:

  • Remember to upgrade your pistol damage and fire rate as you go along. Since this weapon is the only one with unlimited ammo, you will often find yourself relying heavily on it. Therefore, it makes sense to have it as strong as possible. This is particularly important with respect to Chapter 11. Unless you conserve all your SMG ammo from Chapter 10 or have your pistol damage fully upgraded, you're in for a hellacious ride (literally).
  • Related to the tip above, do not bother trying to accumulate enough credits for the "Keep Your Balance!" trophy, since you'll want to spend your credits on upgrading yourself and your weapons.
  • You should try to rack up as many kills with each weapon type as possible to build up your count towards the various kill trophies.
  • Do not waste your time trying to get a gold medal during the various weapon orientation sequences, since these times do not get recorded in your challenge mode stats. (Unfortunately, I learned the hard way. :()

Step 2: Play through Story Mode on Femme Fatale (Ultra Hard) difficulty. This difficulty is only unlocked once you’ve beaten the game on Fixer difficulty. The only thing the difficulty changes is how much damage you take and how much damage the enemies take. Having played the game once and having had your ass handed to you many times over, you’ll be more than prepared for this. I honestly thought that this difficulty was a lot easier than Fixer difficulty, but this is again most likely due to the fact that I knew exactly what to expect at each stage. I would still hold off on collecting the Monkey Toys and just get through this mode as quickly as possible. That said, you should still be working towards hammering out those kill trophies. Again, don't waste your time trying to accumulate enough credits for the "Keep Your Balance" trophy. That can wait for the next step.

Step 3: Play through Story Mode on Golden Bullets difficulty. This difficulty is only unlocked once you’ve beaten the game on Fixer difficulty. I thought this was the easiest mode by far. Enemies die with a single shot. The down side is that you also take much more damage, but as long as you stay in the “matrix bullet-time” then you should be fine. It is during this run that I recommend doing the following:

  • Collect all the Monkey Toys. See the “Monkey Obsessed!” trophy for details and guides.
  • Accumulate 50,000 skill points in your “bankroll”. See the “Keep Your Balance” trophy for details.
  • Fully upgrade Rubi’s abilities and weapons. See the “Hey Big Spender!” trophy for more details.

And, of course, you should still be working on those kill trophies.

Step 4: Play through each chapter in Points Count Mode and beat the target scores. You unlock this once you’ve beaten the game (on any difficulty). See the “Target Score Junkie!” trophy for details about this mode.

Step 5: Go to the Boneyard. Another mode that is only unlocked once you’ve beaten the game (on any difficulty). Here you will want to kill all the scorpions. See the “Scorpio” trophy for a guide. The bulk of your time in this mode, however, will be spent on getting gold medals for all the challenges. See the “Total Bone-Head” trophy for more details and guides.

Step 6: Clean up. There should only be a handful (if any) trophies left for you to get at this point in your progress and they should all be kill trophies (and the platinum). All of these can be farmed via chapter select in Points Count mode. If you did not fully upgrade Rubi and her weapons or if you did not get 50,000 skill points accumulated, you will have to start a new game for just those trophies.

Conclusion: If you’re looking for an easy platinum (or a really fun game), you’ve come to the wrong place. But if you’ve found yourself in the world of WET and you are compelled to get the plat, then I hope this guide helps you.

Finish Story Mode on Cake Walk (Easy) difficulty.

This trophy cannot be missed provided you complete the game. Since this trophy stacks, it is highly recommended that you play on “Fixer (Hard)” difficulty for your first play-through, to minimize the number of play-throughs.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/203/15.jpg Business as Usual (S)

Finish Story Mode on Hired Gun (Normal) difficulty.

You will have to start a new game on Normal difficulty and complete it, as there is no option to change difficulties once you’ve started the game. Since this trophy stacks, it is highly recommended that you play on Fixer (Hard) difficulty for your first play-through, to minimize the number of play-throughs.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/203/16.jpg Hard Time (G)

Finish Story Mode on Fixer (Hard) difficulty.

It is recommended that you play on this difficulty for your first play-through. The game can be pretty frustrating at times but once you get a hold of the game-play mechanics and figure out the enemies patterns, it will become easier. While you shouldn't need it, here is a link to a youtube walkthrough: WET Walkthrough. (I didn't use this guide, so I can’t vouch for its quality).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/203/17.jpg Blood, Sweat, and Tears (G)

Finish Story Mode on Femme Fatale (Ultra Hard) difficulty.

You need to complete the game on Fixer (Hard) difficulty before being able to unlock and play Femme Fatale. I actually found this mode easier than Fixer, since I knew what to expect. If you need, help see the “Hard Time” trophy for a link to a video guide.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/203/18.jpg Quick Kills (S)

Finish Story Mode on Golden Bullets difficulty.

I found this to be incredibly easy, since the vast majority of enemies die with a single hit (only machine gunners take a little more effort, but they’re still a breeze). Moreover, since enemies die with a single hit, this is perfect time to work on the various kill trophies, the “Hey Big Spender!” trophy and the “Keep Your Balance” trophy. See those trophies for more details.

Collectible & Upgrade Trophies

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/203/21.jpg Monkey Obsessed! (S)

Collect every Monkey Toy in the game.

Note that you can collect a Monkey Toy in any game mode and once you collect that monkey toy, the game auto saves and you never have to worry about that toy again. When Points Count Mode is available to you, you can hunt for these chapter by chapter if you like. The game will tell you how many Monkeys you've collected for a given chapter at the chapter select screen which is available through Points Count mode. Unfortunately, the monkeys are not numbered. For this reason you may want to consider having a checklist out so you can scratch off Monkeys as you find them. At any rate, here is a video guide (credit to RavenVanHelsing for the Playlist):

Kill every Scorpion in Rubi's Boneyard.

The same rules for autosaving applies here as with the Monkey Toys. It is possible to get all of these the very first time you are in the Boneyard. However, since you have to do the Boneyard challenges anyhow, I recommend waiting until you start those so you can free roam the Boneyard with no restrictions. Here is a video and written guide (credit to Fizzmatix for this Guide): WET Scorpion Video & Written Guide.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/203/27.jpg Hey Big Spender! (S)

Purchase all Upgrades.

I believe you will need 66,000 total points to fully upgrade Rubi. You can upgrade as you go along. This is pretty easy get in any play-through, but I recommend getting this on your “Golden Bullets” play-through. In this case, you should also be working on the “Keep Your Balance” trophy that requires that you have 50,000 skill points at once. If you go this route, you will want wait to fully upgrade until after you’ve acquired the 50,000 skill points.

Challenge Mode Trophies

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/203/30.jpg Total Bone-Head (G)

Earn a Gold Medal in every Challenge (Boneyard Challenges).

The majority of these are really easy to get. However, there are a few that are a giant pain. Unfortunately, as of the writing of this guide, there aren't many videos available and what's out there doesn't really provide much help but I have included a video of the hardest boneyard challenge, Crack Shot 2. Here are some general tips to help you out:

  • For the various gun related challenges (i.e. the checkpoint challenges), be sure to hit all of the targets to reduce your time. Some of the targets are not in plain sight, so you may have to do a little searching.
  • For the time trial type challenges, there is always a fairly direct route to the target. Just be sure to do a little exploration on you first couple of runs.

Below is a youtube video of the hardest challenge, Crack Shot 2. You want to take particular note of the wall jump at 1:07. As you can see, you want to do this at last possible moment (credit to Kheapathic for the video):

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuQED8CWR5k]Crack Shot 2 Boneyard Challenge[/ame]

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/203/31.jpg Target Score Sampler! (B)

Beat the target score in any Chapter (Points Count Mode).

See the “Target Score Junkie!” trophy.

Beat the target score in 3 Chapters (Points Count Mode).

See the “Target Score Junkie!” trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/203/33.jpg Target Score Junkie! (G)

Beat the target score in every Chapter (Points Count Mode).

As the name implies, the objective in Points Count Mode is to get as high of a score as possible. Getting the required point total for levels where there are arena fights is easy. Here are the basic strategies needed:

  • Don’t close the doors until the enemies stop spawning. The enemies do not spawn infinitely, but there are plenty of them to get your points up.
  • Get your multiplier up from the beginning. There almost always multiplier boost in arena fights. Get these first to get your multiplier up to 5X right away. This way kills will give you 5 times the points (obviously).
  • String together acrobatic combos. The combo I used to rack up points really quickly is the wall-run to jump to slide combo. If you do it properly and while in a 5X multiplier boost, you will get between 120 and 175 points per kill.

For levels with non-arena fights (i.e. driving levels and the airplane level), you will have to nearly kill all the enemies available. Among these, the freefall airplane level is the hardest. Just make sure to look around to find more enemies to kill.

Kill Trophies

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/203/34.jpg Revolver Onslaught! (B)

Kill a total of 200 Enemies using Rubi's Pistols during acrobatic slo-mo.

See the “Crossbow Blitz!” trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/203/35.jpg Shotgun Wallop! (B)

Kill a total of 200 Enemies using Rubi's Shotguns during acrobatic slo-mo.

See the “Crossbow Blitz!” trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/203/36.jpg Full-Auto Frenzy! (B)

Kill a total of 200 Enemies using Rubi's Sub-machineguns during acrobatic slo-mo.

See the “Crossbow Blitz!” trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/203/38.jpg Cutting Edge Combat (B)

Kill 200 Enemies with acrobatic Sword attacks.

See the “Crossbow Blitz!” trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/203/37.jpg Crossbow Blitz! (B)

Kill a total of 200 Enemies using Rubi's Dart Bows during acrobatic slo-mo.

These are cumulative over all play-through and all modes. However, if you die, your kills reset to the last amount you had at the last checkpoint. For efficiency sake, you should upgrade your various guns’ ammo capacity and shot damage. Also, it is worth noting that if you have full ammo, you will still “pick up” ammo packs that you come across. So, it is best to use up all the ammo right away.

There is a major exception to this rule: In Chapter 10, you come across a full ammo cache right before you enter the elevator and go to the “rage sequence”. I highly recommend not using the SMG during this fight so you have full ammo for Chapter 11, which is a car sequence. Chapter 11 is a nightmare if you only have a pistol.

The pistols and sword should come naturally, but since you don’t get the other weapons till later in the game, the others may take some time. If you don’t have all of these by the time you’re finished with your Golden Bullets play-through, you can farm these in the Points Count Mode. A good chapter to farm is Chapter 10.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/203/39.jpg Guns don't kill people... (B)

Kill 30 Enemies with environmental objects or explodables.

There are various exploding containers spread throughout the game. These are cumulative over all play-through and all modes. However, if you die, your kills reset to the last amount you had at the last checkpoint. Just be sure to shoot these as you encounter them and you should have this by the time you finish your Golden Bullets run. If not, you can always go to Points Count Mode. Again, Chapter 10 is a good place to farm.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/203/40.jpg Group Therapy (B)

Kill 3 Enemies at the same time.

I honestly can’t tell you where a good place to get this is because I have no idea when I got mine. That said, it most likely popped when I was using a turret-gun and blew up an explosive container that was next to a mob of enemies. This situation happens a various occasions in the game, so you’re bound to unlock the trophy at one of those instances.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/203/41.jpg Turret-Syndrome (B)

Kill a total of 100 Enemies while using stationary gun.

There is only one occasion where you can choose to use a turret. Most of the time, you will be forced to use it and you have a set number of enemies to kill while you’re using it. Since the kills are cumulative, you will get this during your Golden Bullets run, provided you haven’t deviated to play some Points Count Mode.

Miscellaneous Trophies

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/203/22.jpg Keep Your Balance (S)

Get a balance of 50,000 Style Points (Story Mode).

I found this easiest to get during the Golden Bullets run. During that run, I followed the same “arena strategy” found under the “Target Score Junkie!” trophy, whenever there was an arena battle. However, since health is limited on this run, I upgraded my life (and only my life) right away. Even doing this, I was still able to get 50,000 points well before the game was close to ending. I also recommend going for the “Hey Big Spender!” trophy after you’ve gotten this one.

I'm about to start this game, and hopefully go for plat if it isn't too soul crushing. I can see that your guide is going to be really helpful, thanks!

I guess for my first run I'll play on Hard as you suggest and just try to enjoy and finish it, not worry about anything else. I used a treasure guide on my first run of Wolverine and playing that way kind of ruined the game for me.

Don't worry, this game is not "soul crushing", but it can be very frustrating and annoying. Good luck.

So if I collect a monkey toy on playthrough one, will that one be gone for playthrough 2, do you have to collect all of those toys in a single playthrough or do they carry over across multiple playthroughs like the kill trophies? Just curious, I plan to follow your advice and ignore them til Golden Bullets.

I just edited the Monkey Toy and Scorpion specific guide. Your question should be answered therein.

Wow. After struggling through repeated frustration and deaths getting to the boneyard on Hard, and then thoroughly hating and failing the time trials they put you through there, I've given up on Wet platinum. What I'm going to do is start over on Normal, play the game, enjoy it, earn whatever trophies I happen to earn, and be done with it. Thanks for the guide, I'm impressed anyone was able to plat this.

Trust me the learning curve is steep, very steep, BUT once you get over the hump (i.e. once you beat the game on Fixer), it gets a LOT easier to manage. That said, I know exactly how you feel. If I wasn't totally OCD, I'd given up on this game as well.

So far i am missing only the boneyard challenges trophies and the target score junkie which i am pretty close and i do not believe to be a problem.

I'm also missing Crossbow Blitz because of all the weapons this is the hardest to get kills since the ammo is not that much.

If i do not plat this it, will certainly be due to the boneyard challenges. But with practice we'll see....

The hardest thing for me was the Boneyard Challenges, but stick with them and you'll get them after a few (or 30) tries. Some of them are really easy. The hardest for me where the pistol ones. I don't know if you have played Batman or Prototype, but for me these challenges were much less frustrating than either of those games.

And for the Crossbow Blitz, just use the crossbow until you run out of ammo on every Chapter Challenge. I probably didn't kill 30 people with this in my first playthrough, but was able to get it during the chapter challenges.

  • 1 month later...

ok, here are my impressions of this game.

i rented it 2 days ago and platinumed it just right now.

all in all it was a rough time, but i never felt like kicking the game in the corner ( like i felt on gta and mirrors edge, and motorstorm right now)

4 playthroughs are a bit too much, but i enjoyed it. maybe it was cool for me to shoot like hell, because the last game i played was dead space ;=) where ammo is a problem.

some trophies were a bit close, like the crossbow trophy came on the last 3 enemies. and the big spender trophy was also close.

on the first playthrough on fixer i had very big problems, because i didnt red this guide and tried to get the 50000 on my first playthrough and spend nothing on upgrades till chapter 9. that was very hard. but then with the upgrades the rest was easy as hell.

only a few tries in the challenges came up.

in the end i would say its not the best game and not the worst. it was fun, but never again ;)

Yesterday I had to restart my playthrough on Femme Fatale because I didnt spent nothing on weapon updgrades. On chapter 6 (Falling for Kafka) I was stuck because its impossible to survive without the pistol upgrades.

i think that you should write it in the guide that you shouldnt waste ur time tryin to get the big spender and 50000 credits on the fixer or femme fatale difficulty. because its impossible. i wasted a lot of time with tryin.

Well, in the road map, I did recommend going for the 50,000 credits during the points count mode. But I suppose that if people don't take my advice they could run the risk of making the same mistake that you did. :( OK then, I'll emphasize this point.

Thanks very much for this! I didn't think for a sec that I could keep killing people in the arenas until they stopped spawning (I kept locking them down in as quick a time as poss trying to get a bigger bonus - stopped me getting the 'Hey Big Spender' trophy by a couple hundred points!). Hopefully I'll have the plat soon :)
