Game description

One night, eight teenagers gather in a remote mountain cabin on the anniversary of their friend's mysterious death. The power's out, there's no phone reception and you're trying to hook up with the cheerleader.

What could possibly go wrong?

  • Slasher Film Horror - Written by Hollywood Horror cult screenwriter, Until Dawn features all the elements you'd expect from your favorite teen horror movies.
  • Determine who Lives or Dies - Interact with the storyline by making decisions that can affect character relationships and determine who lives or dies leading up to 30 different endings.
  • Pass the Flashlight, Share the Fear - There's a killer on the loose and you're trapped with nothing but a flashlight. Face your fears alone or take a cue from the on-screen cast and pass the flashlight to a friend.
  • Experience Multiple Perspectives of Fear - Play multiple characters and experience the story unfold from their unique points of view.

Exploration (and all interactions in general) is currently relegated entirely to the PlayStation 3′s Move controller (just the wand). You experience everything from a first-person perspective, and the Move wand doubles as the flashlight that your character holds in his or her hand. You can’t jump between the different characters at will, but you’ll jump to new perspectives frequently as the story unfolds, a switch that is cleverly realized in game when the flashlight is handed off to another potential victim.

The Move’s trigger button makes you walk/run (depending on the circumstances) in whichever direction the light is pointing, and the top-mounted Move button is used for interacting with objects in the environment. There’s no gamepad support planned for Until Dawn at this time, but the game isn’t due until 2013 and even Supermassive admits that plans may change. It certainly couldn’t hurt to include gamepad controls as well; not every PS3 owner has a Move but they all have at least one SIXAXIS or DualShock 3. Just saying.

Exploration yields information, which in turn helps to up each character’s chances of survival. There’s no in-game indication of this, no meter or percentage rating to inform you of how you’re doing. The world is more immersive than that. You’re examining found clues — using the Move to twist objects around in your hand — and solving puzzles involving lever-pulling and the like. Story is the focus in Until Dawn, but there’s definitely a game to be played here as well.

I really like the way this game looks, but I don't know much of anything else. This game doesn't look like the regular horror game, but then again, it has some of the familiar stuff we've seen in horror games before. Although I do like the cover art for the game. It really adds to the isolation in the winter theme.

This game looks amazing. It's Quantum Dream, right? Same developers as Heavy Rain? At least it looks sorta like it :p. First day purchase for me regardless. :D

The trailer is broken btw, OP.

I get that Saw vibe from this game, I like it hopefully its decent.

Haha, I thought the same.

This game does look as close to amazing as horror can get

Weirdly I'm more hyped for this than Silent Hills, it seems like a great idea and they've obviously put a lot of heart and soul into it

Also the guy who writes scripts with Ti West is one of the writers behind this and I love House of The devil and The Innkeepers so fingers crossed

9 hours? :o_O:

Think I heard him say that in the interview. But who knows pending on if that counts exploring or not. The video I posted has an interview over the gameplay.

Interview made me want the game a lot more.. so many choices. People mentioned 30 endings as well.

I'm sure the platinum will include seeing all the different branching paths, so expect at least 30+ hours to get that....

That depends on if there's a chapter select function, or a save function. Wonder when the trophy list will finally come online.

If not, and all endings are required.. at ~9 hours a run ( regardless of who lives or dies according to the interview ) x 30 possible endings ( assuming that each is individual, otherwise it would drop significantly )... you'd be looking at ~270 hours of playtime.

I do like the story alters to who's dead/alive as well.
