Major THL Update, Apology, and how we're moving forward

I’ll start this off straight. Our announcement earlier was a mistake. We thought we explained everything, and made it clear how the rules as they stand function. It’s clear we failed, both to ourselves with conflicting communication and the community with how it was presented. It’s our job as Events Directors to make sure that the community is having fun with our site events, not biting each others throats because of a site award. We’re sorry we didn’t just come out and present ourselves immediately, in our attempts to keep everything quiet as possible and prevent something like today, we fucked up in the way that everything has been communicated and made it a complete mess that we’ll never be able to entirely clean up. Things need to change, and they’re changing now.

Starting off with the elephant in the room, Game Sharing. The current rule is simply too vague, and it oversteps our boundaries. We admit the mistakes of this rule, and it has continually grown off a precedent that we're definitively putting to rest now. Starting now, we will no longer be banning for any physical game trading. Any discussion or organization simply needs to stay off the site. Digital Account Sharing will remain an instant ban offense, because it breaks PST and Sony Terms of Service.

Current:

Organized game trading and account sharing is considered cheating and absolutely not permitted. This includes sending physical copies of games to team mates. While we cannot enforce rules or behaviors off-site we can regulate whether you can enter competitions on PST that would be affected by these types of activities. There is no way of knowing who is using whose account or whether trophies are being earned properly by the individual associated with said account. Furthermore digital game trading and more importantly account sharing is against Sony's TOS and against PST's TOS. The Event Directors want to run a clean and fair competition and these activities aren't going to be tolerated. Any teams or members found to be game trading or account sharing will be immediately removed from the competition and all future competitions.

Revised:

Organized trades of physical games are not allowed to be discussed or organized on the site. Any discussion on the subject will be deleted, and infractions handed out. Selling needs to stay to the Bargain Bin. Account Sharing/Digital Game Trading is strictly forbidden by both PST and Sony ToS, and those proven to be doing so will be immediately removed from the competition and all future seasons for an indefinite period. Keep it clean, keep it fair.

Additionally, the PS4 will have been available for over a year when THL 8 rolls around. As such, it's time for the new account grace period to end.

Current:

New PSN accounts are not allowed to be created for use in the THL. Additionally, you cannot switch between multiple accounts for use in subsequent THL seasons. The only exception to this rule is for those who wish to create a new account to begin anew on their next gen system, please make the EDs aware of this prior to the competition to avoid any confusion down the line. As such, only PS4 trophies earned on these accounts will count towards the THL scores. Additionally, if you opt to use a new account for THL, that will be your account for any future THL seasons and you will be unable to switch back to your previous account. This is to ensure that competitors cannot create a new account and replay the same games each THL season. Any specific account questions should be sent directly to the EDs.

Revised:

No new Accounts are allowed to be created to earn a fresh start for THL. Once a member has participated in a THL, that is their permanent THL account. Anyone caught on a new profile will be considered to be using that account to gain an unfair advantage, and immediately removed from competition.

Finally, changes to the way we handle the general discussion thread, and punishments. We've been very lax, and have only began cracking down in the last two seasons. But the fact of the matter is, the General Discussion Thread tends to get out of hand with back and forth chit chat about nothing. We've in our history never given a deduction, instead, mods have come in and handed infractions out when deemed appropriate. Because we don't believe in double punishments, this means the deduction rule currently in place is never enforced. As such, we're dropping it, and all punishments for off topic spamming, flaming, whining, etc, will be handled just like it would on the rest of the site.

Current:

  • No complaining, whining, or flaming other members. This is a friendly competition. There will be point penalties for any complaining, whining or flaming. The deduction will be 100 points per incident. No questions asked and no warnings. This is a no bullshit competition.
  • In the event that there is an issue, concern etc then that correspondence MUST BE sent via PM only, to an Event Director. Remember only the Team Captains are to contact the Event Directors. There should be ZERO complaining, arguing, flaming or accusations posted in the forums. If this happens your team will receive a 100 point deduction per incident.

Revised:

  • No complaining, whining, or flaming other members. This is a friendly competition. All punishments will be handled just like the rest of the site. This means punishments can and will include infractions.
  • In the event that there is an issue requiring direct response, concern, etc then that correspondence MUST BE sent via PM only, to an Event Director. Only your Team Captains should need to contact the Event Directors. There should be ZERO complaining, arguing, flaming or accusations posted in the forums.

and now the most important announcement for all of you;

In addition to the various rule updates, we’re dropping the MVP and THL Winners awards effective immediately, which also includes the removal of the playoff period. These awards have been a strong drive for the extremely competitive community, but it’s clear that they simply aren’t right for THL. Teams are burning themselves out faster and faster each season, bitter relations are continually being developed, and we simply aren’t going to have that anymore. In effect, we’re asserting quality over quantity from here on, with future awards focused on objective and communal hunting, something that Bingo has proven to be a massive success of.

We're also dropping THL to 1 season per year to reduce stress and fatigue, and to focus on other large scale site events. You can expect to hear more about those large scale events, and THL 8 in the future.
