TORO! Let's Party! All SSS Guide

For the all SSS trophy, you will need to earn SSS Rank in every single minigame. For the japanese version this also includes the game 新春カルタ大会.

Flap your wings! Chick! (はばたけ!ひよこ)
Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player - 61 Points
Difficulty: Easy
Tips: Despite the game telling you to hold the controller with both hands, it's easiest to just hold in it one hand and shake up and down like a madman. You should get this one first try.


Goblin Toro (小悪魔トロ)
Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player - 300 Points
Difficulty: Easy
Tips: Methodwise there's not much to say. Avoid big groups of stars and go for the biggest groups of hearts. Big ones give three points, medium ones give two points, and small hearts give one point.


Yabusame (やぶさめ)
Score required to SSS Rank: Yabusame mode - 26 Points, Trial mode - ?
Difficulty: Medium
Tips: For reasons I don't quite understand, the arrows will go through the targets if shot too early or too late, even if they're on target. The distance between Toro and the target should be about the same as the distance between two pickets in the foreground when you shoot. Also, make sure you're holding the analog stick to the left to shoot the middle targets, even though that is the neutral position.


Ninja Star Training (しゅりけん修行の巻)
Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player - 464 Points (?)
Difficulty: Medium
Tips: Make sure you hold down the button(s) before pushing the controller, and don't rush. Chances are you will run out of lives before you run out of time, so don't risk hitting Kuro!


Stretchy Snake (のびのびスネーク)
Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player - 72 Points
Difficulty: Hard
Tips: The best technique to stop yourself from hitting your own tail is to sliver up and down in a restricted area until your tail falls behind you. This will allow you plenty of free space to get apples.
Needless to say, try to avoid going for the apples right at the edge of the map. There are 4 apples at any one time, so go for the most open ones before trying anything risky.


Whack-A-Mole (もぐらたたき)
Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player - 230 Points (?), Imitate - ?
Difficulty: Medium
Tips: I recommend Single Player mode for this. Hit whatever you see. No need to worry about avoiding anything. Bonus points are given for hitting Toro if you still have all 3 misses available. Otherwise, hitting Toro will give you an extra miss.


Ball Lifting (ボールリフティング)
Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player (Hard) - 60 Points (?)
Difficulty: Medium - Hard
Tips: The trick here is to hold the controller with both hands and move with small, weak, repetitive movements, so that Toro only just reacts. This will keep it just above your head at all times.


Free throw (フリースロー)
Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player - All 11 Baskets Clear
Difficulty: Medium - Hard
Tips: For the first few baskets, I find it's best to hold the controller close and just jolt it a little, instead of doing a full swinging motion. As you clear each basket, swing slightly more dynamically. The later baskets are actually slightly easier, and you should be throwing the ball almost like you normally would with an underarm throw. Learn from your mistakes, if you swing the ball a little too short, apply a little more force as you swing the controller the next time.


Dancing Toro (ダンシングトロ)
Score required to SSS Rank: 90 Points
Difficulty: Medium - Hard
Tips: Be sure to make no mistakes early on as this will waste valuable time later when the inputs are coming thick and fast, and will not allow you sufficient time to score an SSS Rank. Try to get atleast the first 40 without making a mistake.


Pulling Tablecloths (テーブルクロス引き)
Unlocked from: Garcon (ギャルソン) on Page 3 of the Memory Diary
Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player AND Cooperate with Toro - All 20 Rounds Clear
Difficulty: Hard
Tips: The motion control in this game is very poor. No matter which way you pull back the controller (even if you don't pull it at all!), it will result almost the same way. For this reason it can just take a lot of repeats until you get it. One method I used in the harder stages was to make a good start before the timer was even over, so that the tablecloth didn't have to move so far. Also if you're lucky when doing this, it can glitch and the table cloth will move slowly off the table without even moving anything on top.

Target Shooting (まとあて)
Unlocked from: The Festival Ogre (お祭りでがおー) on Page 3 of the Memory Diary
Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player - 85 Points (?)
Difficulty: Medium
Tips: You have to hit him in the center of the target on his stomach, try to get as many straight perfect 10 point shots at the start (aim for the first 5 or 6) as the last few are a lot harder. The target will speed up a level after 4 shots and again after 8 shots.


Carp flying up-river (コイの川のぼり)
Unlocked from: Flying Carp (こいのぼり) on Page 3 of the Memory Diary
Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player (Hard) - 163 Points (?)
Difficulty: Easy
Tips: Shake your controller up and down as fast as you can, and jump over the waves. In the later stages you'll be moving faster, so as soon as you see a wave on the edge of the screen be ready to jump, as there could be another wave directly following it.


Toro Coming At You! (どすこいトロ)

Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player vs. Ricky - 15 Seconds (?)
Difficulty: Easy
Tips: This one just takes a bit of luck. Keep pushing him and running back until he falls over.


Speed (スピード)
Unlocked from: Gambler (ギャンブラー) on Page 4 of the Memory Diary
Score required to SSS Rank: VS. - ?, Time Attack - 20.00 (?)
Difficulty: Medium (+ Luck)
Tips: I did this one in time attack as I found it to be easier and quicker. The idea is to pick a card which is either one higher or one lower than the card displayed. The order is the usual A-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-J-Q-K order. If you don't have a card that matches this description, you should pass, and you'll be given another random card from your hand. Make sure you're using the button to pass and or buttons to play a card as this is much faster than using the button and selecting the place, and is completely necessary to get the time required for the SSS Rank.


Where is your home? (おうちはどっち?)

Score required to SSS Rank: All 10 Rounds Clear
Difficulty: Easy
Tips: It's a basic sliding puzzle game. You're given plenty of time for this one, so you shouldn't have a problem even if you're inexperienced with them. Each map gives you 10 minutes to complete, and there are 10 maps. You can walk off the edge of pieces and Toro will just turn around. You can also lift the controller upwards to turn around. This is vital to avoid walking into a hole as falling into a hole will immediately end your run and you will need to start all 10 maps again. You need to collect all of the flowers to make the bridge fall, allowing you access to the goal.

Inaba White Rabbit (いなばの白うさぎ)

Difficulty: Easy
Tips: Remember to jump as you hit each one to get a further distance. As it progresses, Jun will throw rabbits faster so you'll have to deal with 2 or 3 at a time, but it still shouldn't be difficult to reach SSS rank.


Splitting Watermelons (スイカわり)

Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player - 51 Seconds Remaining (?)
Difficulty: Medium (+ Luck)
Tips: The general rule for this one is to go straight down the middle; going around the sides will waste too much time. Don't bombard Toro with directions. Only call Toro once he has stopped spinning. If Toro is going towards the right general direction and just needs to move slightly to one direction, try to leave calling him until just before he walks into something in order to save the most time.


Let's Sandlot Baseball (もえる!草野球)

Score required to SSS Rank: 11 Points (?)
Difficulty: Medium
Tips: This game works like most baseball games. The later you swing, the further to the right the ball will go. Likewise, swinging early will cause the ball to go to the left. For this reason, in order to score a homerun, you want to hit the ball ever so slightly earlier or later than the ideal timing to avoid the catcher. If you're struggling and need just a few more points, you can try hitting the ball as early or late as possible and nabbing 1 point at a time by sending the ball off to the far left or far right. If you hit the ball too late, you'll use up one chance, and won't get out until you do this 3 times in a row, so it is a relatively safer way to pick up small points.


Ukulele (ウクレレ)

Score required to SSS Rank: Hard mode - 91%
Difficulty: Hard
Tips: The key to this one is finding a comfortable way to hold the controller. Since you have to use the analog stick instead of the controller pad you have to be precise when moving the stick up or down. Once you've found the most comfortable way for you to do this, it should only be a matter of time.


Bon Dance (ぼんおどり)

Score required to SSS Rank: Hard mode - 90% (?)
Difficulty: Medium
Tips: Exaggerate your movements as much as possible, and make sure you're always holding the controller straight even when moving it to the sides.


Racer Toro (トロレーサー)
Unlocked from: Racer (レーサー) on Page 6 of the Memory Diary
Score required to SSS Rank: Race with Everyone - 1:23 (?), Time Attack - 1:22 (?)
Difficulty: Hard
Tips: I did this one in time attack. The speedy car is an absolute must. I tried a lot with the normal/cornering type cars and couldn't make it under the target time.
Don't use the brakes, when you're approaching a corner just let go of the acceleration a bit in advance, and cut any little corners you can, preferably without hitting anything. Another trick I found, is by hitting the starting arch on laps 1 and 2 at the right angle, you're given a very valuable boost!


Rolling the Big Ball (大玉ころがし)

Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player - 36.00 (?)
Difficulty: Medium
Tips: If you have problems trying to keep the ball going straight, roll it towards the bottom of the screen on the way to the pole so that it can't go any further down and then just push it forwards. Do the same towards the top of the screen on the way back.


Ball Toss (玉いれ)

Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player vs. Ricky and Suzuki's Team - +4 Points
Difficulty: Medium - Hard
Tips: For this one, try to go after the balls on the outside as these are less likely to miss, and block off your opponents from taking balls wherever possible by standing in their paths while picking up balls. This is pretty much essential to getting SSS here.


Punk Toro (トロパンク)
Unlocked from: Punk (パンク) on Page 7 of the Memory Diary
Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player - 1200 (?), Score Attack - 600 (?)
Difficulty: Medium - Hard
Tips: The idea is to simply miss as few as possible. You'll get bonus points for hitting the commands quickly. The first 2 rounds are relatively easy and you should be aiming ideally to miss around 5 or less commands between both rounds. In the 3rd round you'll find the commands may come too fast for you to react, at which point I recommend pausing to read the commands. If you do miss a few, you should still be on track for an SSS so long as you don't miss them too early on. Do not try to rush yourself, going for them fast for the bonus points is not worth it if it causes you to miss one.


Mochi Pounding (もちつき)

Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player as Kneader - 300 Points (?), Single Player as Pounder - ?
Difficulty: Easy - Medium
Tips: The trick is to play as Kuro the kneader. Toro will speed up with each knead, thus allowing you to get SSS rank easier. Stay in the rhythm as it speeds up, but keep an eye on the bar at the side. Just as it's about to become full, Toro will suddenly slow down, so prepare to slow down the moment the bar is full. It takes about 3 full bars to get SSS rank.

Putter Golf (パターゴルフ)

Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player - -4 Points (4 under total par)
Difficulty: Hard
Tips: For this one, the easiest holes are 1 and 2. For this reason I recommend aiming for a birdie in hole 1, and a birdie or eagle in hole 2 before carrying on to give yourself the best chance.
Hole 1: You should be aiming for a birdie on this one. Face slightly to the left and hit the ball with a fairly powerful shot. This should put you just below the slope from the hole, you can then face slightly to the right and finish up with a medium power putt. Refer to Video at 0:04
Hole 2: With a power shot, hit the house on the far left side. Chances are, this will place the ball right next to the hole, so you can easily finish this up in the next stroke. You may even manage a hole in one with this method. Refer to Video at 0:41
Hole 3: Aim far to the left, aiming towards the left side of the bunker and hit with a fairly powerful shot. This will take some luck but hopefully you should be up the slope towards the flag and can finish off from there. If you want to play this one safer, you can try purposely aiming for the middle of the bunker and finishing off from the flat ground for a par.
Hole 4: I recommend a power shot just down the line narrowly avoiding the rough. With some luck this will place you close enough to the hole to putt it in for an eagle. Otherwise a birdie should be easily available here. Refer to Video at 1:47
Hole 5: This one takes some precision. Hit with a mid power shot just to the right of the hole. This can net you a birdie or eagle. If you're just trying to play it safe, you can hit it hard so it goes off the other side, then just finish it off from straight ground for a par.
Hole 6: Hit the ball with fairly high power towards where the slope where the flag stands peters out. This should put the ball just on the other side of this slope from the hole. You can then hit the ball towards the left side of the flag with a medium power shot to get it up the slope. Putt it in for a birdie. Refer to Video at 3:04
Hole 7: Face slightly to the left with a power shot so you're hitting the ball towards the rough slightly. With a bit of luck this should go straight between the pond and the rough and land near the flag. Refer to Video at 3:38
Hole 8: Hit the ball into the wooden triangular structure. This will roll the ball out on the other side of the bunker. From here you should face to the left slightly and hit the ball with a medium power shot, then one more putt to finish it off. Refer to Video at 4:10


Bowling (ボウリング)

Difficulty: Medium - Hard
Tips: As with every bowling game, the idea to get strikes is to hit between the frontmost and second to front pins on either side. If you get a split, hit the closest pin on the side furthest from the other pin(s).


Merry Christmas Everyone! (みんあにメリークリスマス)

Score required to SSS Rank: 1000 Points (?)
Difficulty: Medium
Tips: The trick here is to get a huge combo straight from the start. About 40-42 is needed for the SSS rank. Since it's easiest at the start as there is less snow, I recommend you keep retrying until you get this huge combo straight from the start.
When dropping a present, tap backwards on the analog stick just before you press circle. This will make the present drop straight down instead of carrying on with the momentum of your sleigh.
If you are blocked off by snow and absolutely must, then use the reindeer as a shield and make sure Toro doesn't get hit. This way you will not break your combo and will only lose time (of which you have a little to spare if you get a big combo).
Stay as low as possible throughout to make aiming for the chimneys as easy as possible. Make dodging snow your priority. Passing a chimney without dropping a present does not ruin a chain, so only drop them when you're sure you can get it in.


Shooting Angels (天使シュウティング)

Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player - 400 Points (?)
Difficulty: Easy
Tips: Go close to the bottom right corner and keep shooting off to the right. You should get many points this way as you get 3 points for hitting hearts early on. You do not need to worry about shooting skulls as they do not give you a penalty, just be sure to avoid them with Toro. Starting at 100 points you'll get an extra 15 seconds bonus every 40 points. You'll need these speed bonuses to get SSS rank so be sure to fire as much as possible.


Tennis (テニス)

Score required to SSS Rank: Single Player - All opponents beat, up to 3 games lost
Difficulty: Easy - Medium
Tips: On serves, move all the way to the furthest side of the field and swing while holding the joystick hard to the opposite side of the field, as this will often catch the opponent out immediately, allowing you to win most of the games where you're the server. Other than that, try to stay close to the middle and be prepared for each shot, pull the opponent to one side then hit the ball hard down the other side of the field with spin.



Billionaire Card Game (大富豪)

Score required to SSS Rank: 6
Difficulty: Medium
Tips: Incase you're not that familiar with the game, the order the cards go in is:
Lowest -> 3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-J-Q-K-A-2-Joker <- Highest
With this in mind, put out the lowest card in your hand that is above whatever is on the table, but try to save any doubles/triples you have as you can get rid of these all at once when there is nothing on the table or if an opponent has played a double/triple. When asked to exchange cards at the start of a new round, remove the lowest, most useless cards. If you come 2nd in a round after being the richest character overall, you'll go into 'exile,' where you'll automatically come last for that round, but to get an SSS rank you'll need to come first in all 3 rounds anyway.


Parlor Tricks (かくし芸)

Score required to SSS Rank: Parlor Tricks mode - All 10 Rounds Complete, Trial mode - ?
Difficulty: Easy
Tips: I recommend doing this in parlor tricks mode as it's a lot easier. You only have to balance each object for 5 seconds. This shouldn't take too many tries.

Fan-tan (7ならべ)
Unlocked from: Fan-tan on Page 10 of the Memory Diary (Unlocked from the beginning in the japanese version)
Score required to SSS Rank: Very hard mode - 25 Points
Difficulty: Medium - Hard (+ Luck)
Tips: You need to either win twice and come second, or else win all three rounds to get an SSS Rank.
First of all, my advice is to keep restarting the game until you have atleast 2 7s at the start of the first round (if you have the 7 of diamonds you'll get to go first too).
This game is 99% luck, 1% strategy, for the 1% strategy here is my advice:
Play cards which help you out and hinder the opponent; for example, if, at the start of the game you have a 6 of clubs, a 5 of clubs, and a 6 of hearts available to play, but you don't have the 5 of hearts, then play the 6 of clubs as you know you're not opening any opportunites for the opponent in doing so, since you have the next card in that row. If you have no helpful cards, then play cards that fill up solo spaces on the board (in between two cards or else a king/ace) where possible.
When someone plays a king or ace for a set, you can only play the opposing card for that set; for example, if someone plays a king of hearts, the only hearts card you can play is an ace of hearts, no matter what other options would usually be available for that set. You must then play on from this ace in the order A-2-3~ etc. instead of playing outwards from the 7.
When a player is out by passing 4 turns, their remaining cards are set out on the field semi-transparent. When you play a consecutive number card, those cards are automatically filled in. Keep this in mind when deciding which cards to play.
Bear in mind, no matter how well you play, you can lose just by having a bad hand in this game. Especially if, at the start of a game, one of your opponents has 3 or 4 7s to begin with.

Difficulty: Medium
Tips: You have to pick the cards which are relevant to the speech and dialogue. Even if you can't read japanese, you should be able to memorize these off by heart after a bit as there aren't that many. The matching cards will also have the first character of the dialogue on them. With a bit of practice and memorizing, you'll beat them. Here's a little selection of phrases that might come up. It may help to pause and go through these.
カモさん カモさん どこに行くの? (Duck, Duck, where have you gone?) - White card with Toro (か)
スーパースタアも夢じゃない!? (Isn't being a superstar a dream!) - Pink card with Jun (す)

Okay, I can't believe this wasn't mentioned in the guide, but here's a tip that renders the Speed game incredibly easy...

pause it!

Press the start button, pause the game and the timer freezes. Weigh your options, decide your move and then unpause and go for it. Rinse and repeat. Without this method, I wouldn't have been able to get a SSS ranking.
