Roadmap

Step 1 - Easy/Skraeling Playthrough

For your first playthrough, focus on getting to grips with the control system, learning the tactics against the bosses and upgrading Thor, both through collectibles and the Valor upgrade system.

The game is broken into five distinct worlds, and each world has Feats that Thor can complete to obtain Valor, which he can use to upgrade his abilities. Feats range from completing a certain section of the game in a specific time limit, to smashing a specific number of objects. See the Feat-Related Trophies section for more details.

During this playthrough, attempt to get most of the Missable trophies which are not related to Feats. You will also obtain the story related trophies in this playthrough.

When searching for collectibles, some of them can only be collected on Hard or Very Hard; they will appear, but will be see-through and accompanied by a message telling you that you cannot collect them. Focus on collecting the others, since you will be back to collect these in a subsequent playthrough.

You must play through the game once on any difficulty in order to unlock Valhallan difficulty, which is needed for a later trophy, so this step is unavoidable.

New Game +: Once you have completed Thor, you will be given the option to save your data and then start the game anew, carrying over all of your upgrades, collectibles and Feat progress. This makes subsequent playthroughs much easier. This also seems like the best time to mention that there is no chapter select for Thor. If you miss something, you must start an entirely new playthrough to try and collect it again.

Step 2 - Very Hard/Valhallan Playthrough

This playthrough should be used to collect all of the Hard Only collectibles and finishing off any smashable Feats that you did not complete on the first time through. You should obtain the Legend of Valhalla trophy on completion of this playthrough.

Step 3 - Clean Up

If you have still not completed all of the Feats, obtained all of the missable trophies, received enough Valor to purchase all of the upgrades, or collected all of the collectibles, you should start another New Game + on either Easy or Hard (depending on if you need Hard Only collectibles or not) and finish these last few off.

Tips and Tricks

Whirling Throws are your friend!

One of the most devastating moves in Thor's arsenal is the Whirling Throw. Press :r3: and he will begin to whirl his hammer above his head. Press :r2: and he will throw it at any targeted enemy. This move uses Odinforce, but is very powerful, and should be your weapon of choice against bosses or difficult foes. If you want to use it faster than normal, jump and throw, then as soon as you land, jump again and you can throw straight away, whereas standing on the ground has a longer cool down time. Even on Valhallan, this move is still very, very useful.

Collectibles!

Make sure you go for as many collectibles as possible. The Health and Odinforce upgrades will be very useful, especially on Valhallan when all enemies do more damage.

Use the Videos!

There are a number of video guides offered by Shoe478 placed strategically through the guide, so use those if you're stuck! Thanks very much to Shoe478!

Feat-Related Trophies

In each world there will be a certain number of Feats that you must complete. You can access the Feats menu from the Pause menu, and use it to keep track of your progress in completing them.

In each of the following trophies, you'll find all of the Feats that are potentially missable. There are some Feats that you will achieve just for completing the level, acting as in-level objectives, so I've omitted them from each list.

As a final note, any of the "Destroy/Smash/Extinguish X amount of objects" Feats all carry over into subsequent playthroughs, so if you only get 25/30 in one go, you can get the other 5 in the second playthrough, smashing ones you already smashed previously.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/16.jpgFavored Princehttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

Complete all Feats in Asgard.
• Save the Einherjar
 • Grapple 10 different foes
 • Destroy 50 Jotun Invaders
 • Collect all 8 Collectibles in Asgard

The only difficult one here is the first. When you're clearing enemies off of the side of a building with Hammer Throws, there will be one warrior hanging off the building. Clear the Jotun off quickly, and he should climb back up. Take too long, and he'll fall off and die.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/21.jpgCold Warriorhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

Complete all Feats in Niflheim.
• Extinguish 5 Frostfire Clouds
 • Destroy 3 Jade Accelerators within the Storm Spire
 • Destroy 10 Jade Turrets
 • Exit the cavern without being hit by frigid winds
 • Avoid being hit by Ymir's ice spike traps
 • Reach the top of the Storm Spire without falling
 • Smash Ymir's face at his fortress entrance in under 20 seconds
 • Prevent Ymir from reforming 3 times outisde the Cave of Ages
 • Collect all 15 collectibles in Niflheim

To avoid Ymir's Spike Traps, this is when they're coming down the river at you. First, use the ledge on the right to hide from the first set. Then stand on the only platform in the river to dodge the second, and the third set requires careful timing when climbing the wall. To prevent Ymir reforming, you have to open the Cave of Ages quickly! If you're going for the Spelunker trophy too, this will be no problem. The rest are fairly straight forward.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lG-DRa3jAVA]Spiked Feat Video[/ame]

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/26.jpgJungle Runnerhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

Complete all Feats in Vanaheim.
• Destroy 20 Spore Pods
 • Destroy 25 Leechweeds
 • Destroy 25 Skraeling Skiffs
 • Destroy 40 Vanir Energy Cells
 • Destroy 90 enemies via Hammer Throw whilst on the barge
 • Ram your barge into 10 river obstacles
 • Listen to the Vanir historical records
 • Collect all 15 collectibles on Vanaheim

For the Historical Records, in one of the rooms with the elevator, there will be devices around the edge of the top floor of the room. Activate them all in turn to hear some history, and then drop back down to the first floor. A final white tube should be just underneath one of the pathways, which you can listen to for the final one.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/32.jpgFire Fighterhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

Complete all Feats in Muspelheim.
• Destroy 200 Lava Plants
 • Destroy 30 Infernir Geodes
 • Destroy 30 Infernir Ore Carriers
 • Destroy 6 Infernir Shield Generators
 • Extinguish 20 Incendiary Clouds
 • Destroy 9 Infernir Drills
 • Collect all 15 collectibles in Muspelheim

All very straight forward here. The geodes are the red orbs, the drills are the large drills you have to activate with Mjolnir, and the Ore Carriers are the smaller ones.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/36.jpgProdigal Sonhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

Complete all Feats in Asgard Besieged.
• Destroy 4 Jade Accelerators
 • Destroy 30 Jotun Invaders on the Ramparts
 • Shoot down 20 Infernir Assault Drills
 • Save 12 Einherjar
 • Prevent the Gjallarhorn from being destroyed
 • Collect all 11 collectibles in Asgard Besieged

Saving the Einherjar depends on how many you rescue in certain parts, but again these stack between playthroughs. Protecting the Gjallarhorn is quite difficult, but lots of Hammer Throws or Lightning Storms should help you fill the Fury Meter quickly.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/04.jpgFeat Fetishhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_gold.png

Complete all Feats in the game.

You must have completed all of the Feats for all 5 worlds, as well as the General and Combat Feats to unlock this.
• Defeat 100 enemies with Lightning Strikes or Lightning Storm
 • Destroy 100 pieces of armour with Thunder Trench or Earthquake
 • Use Wind Blast or Cyclone to knockback 100 enemies
 • Defeat 200 enemies with Hammer Throws
 • Destroy 150 enemies with Grapple Attacks
 • Counter or Reflected 75 enemy attacks
 • Energize 100 Runic Diagrams
 • Destroy 50 enemies with upgraded Combo attacks

 • Perform 5 Lightning Shields
 • Perform 5 Charged Lightning Shield*
 • Perform 5 Thunder Breakers
 • Perform 5 Charged Thunder Breakers*
 • Perform 5 Wind Sweeps
 • Perform 5 Charged Wind Sweeps*
 • Perform 5 Mjolnir Smashes
 • Perform 5 Charged Mjolnir Smashes*
 • Perform 5 Overhand Throws*
 • Perform 5 Buzzsaw Throws*
 • Perform 5 Drill Throws
 • Perform 5 Slam Throws
 • Perform 5 Launchback Throws
 • Perform 5 Meteor Throws*
 • Perform 5 Ground Pounds
 • Perform 5 Hammer Slams
 • Perform 5 Mjolnir Rushes
 • Perform 5 Mjolnir Launches
 • Perform 5 Mjolnir Drops
 • Perform 5 Thunderclaps
 • Perform 5 Lanyard Swings
 • Perform 5 Prone Attacks
 • Perform 5 Lightning Strikes
 • Perform 5 Lightning Storms
 • Perform 5 Thunder Trenches
 • Perform 5 Earthquakes
 • Perform 5 Wind Blasts
 • Perform 5 Cyclones
 • Perform 5 Heroic Recoveries

All of these are fairly straight forward too. Save points, Valor/Odinforce/Health Runestones, doors, switches, etc. all count as Runic Diagrams, and stack between playthroughs.

When performing all of the moves, they don't have to actually connect with enemies, so you can practise most of them anywhere, except the Prone Attack which must be performed on an enemy that has fallen over. Those with a * by them must be purchased from the Valor Upgrade screen before they can be performed.

If you have trouble with any of the moves, there's an in-game Moves List on the Pause Menu.

Upgrade-Related Trophies

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/07.jpgValoroushttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Acquired an upgrade.

You gain the ability to do purchase upgrades during Chapter 1, and the tutorial should show you how to do this. Purchasing any Valor upgrade will cause this to unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/05.jpgThe Mighty Thorhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_gold.png

Acquire all Valor Upgrades.

Purchasing all of the Valor Upgrades will cause this to unlock. You can tell if you have bought an upgrade if it has a blue aura around it, rather than a white one. You will likely need at least one and a half playthroughs of the game to collect enough Valor for them all.

Miscellaneous Trophies

Most of these trophies are easiest to do on Easy difficulty, so try to complete as many as possible on your first playthrough.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/06.jpgWarrior's Madnesshttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Kill 4 or more enemies with a single melee attack.

You will likely get this by accident once you have purchased a few upgrades. If you're having trouble, there are plenty of small enemies that swarm you on Muspelheim, so use either the Charged Wind Sweep (:square::square::square:, hold :triangle:) or Hammer Slam (hold :triangle:+:circle:) when surrounded.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/14.jpgRage of Battlehttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Kill 10 Jötun Invaders within 30 seconds.

This must be done in Asgard. The easiest place to get this is when you are first awarded the Lightning Storm (hold :triangle:) power. Grab the Call of Valhalla power-up in front of you for infinite magic, and the Lightning Storm repeatedly on the swarms of small enemies that appear from the frost wall behind you. If you don't get it, immediately pause and quit, then continue from the main menu for a second chance.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/18.jpgSlayerhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Quickly obliterate 30 Frost Giants during the first battle on Niflheim.

After the tutorial in Niflheim about the Fury Meter, the battlefield will be struck by lightning repeatedly and many frost giants will swarm you. There's a Call of Valhalla power-up near here, so grab this and use either the Lightning Storm (hold :triangle:) or Whirling Throws to dispatch lots of enemies quickly. This has to be done during this point, and if you don't get it, immediately pause and quit, then continue from the main menu to try again.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/19.jpgSharpshooterhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Destroy the Jötun Ice Bridge.

This should be unmissable. As you progress through Niflheim, you'll come to a point where you cannot continue, and the camera will zoom across a chasm to some Iceborn standing on a bridge. Either defeat them all, or use Hammer Throws to destroy the supports on their bridge, and the bridge will fall, unlocking the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/20.jpgSpelunkerhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Open the Cave of Ages within 4 minutes.
After defeating Ymir for the first time, you'll fall into a cavern with the Cave of Ages. You have to keep Ymir away from you whilst you attempt to open the Cave using Mjolnir. If you battle Ymir, you can cause him to disintegrate for a while, which gives you a reprieve in order to open the cave a little. Simply get the Cave open in under 4 minutes and you'll get this one. If you don't get it, immediately pause and quit, then continue from the main menu to try again.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/23.jpgBarge Haulerhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Complete River Barge area with Mire Giant at 40% Health or better.

In Vanaheim, you'll be on a barge pulled by a Mire Giant. Don't worry too much about his health to start with, since there are health pick-ups for him as you progress. Once Thor mentions destroying four Mortars, the window for this trophy starts. Follow the path and travel to each of the four Mortars, getting your Fury Meter up and using it to smash the mortars. Smash them all before they damage the Giant too much and you'll get this one as soon as you get back on the barge. If you don't get it, immediately pause and quit, then continue from the main menu for a second chance.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/25.jpgVolleyhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Reflect 3 of the War Beast projectiles.

During Vanaheim, the War Beast will be sent to kill you. You'll know it when you see it, since it will have a large cannon on it's head. This will be near the end of the level, with Ulik standing atop a door, shouting at you. He will announce the arrival of the War Beast, so don't waste time with the smaller beasties. Use :l2: to reflect it's projectiles back at it. Do this three times, and you'll get this one.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/28.jpgResonatorhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Stop the Resonator Beams in the Smelting Room without getting hit by them.

In Muspelheim, there's a room in which lasers fly towards you, horizontally. On either side of the room there are 4 pillars with a moving power core inside. You have to smash all 8 of these without being hit by a laser to unlock this. If you do get hit, immediately pause and quit, then continue from the main menu.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/29.jpgCrash Landinghttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Crash the Core Drill within 4 minutes of landing on it.

During Muspelheim, you will pull out two anchors and then travel to the big Drill in the sky. From here, run around the outside and look for the three rooms with levers which you can energize with Mjolnir in order to open the gate. In between rooms, you may have to take down some enemies before the doors will open, so dispatch them as soon as possible. Once you've activated all three levers, continue around the Drill and into the door. Take down the Fire Giant boss in here, and if you've done it in time, you'll get this trophy. Note: Unlike the others, there's an autosave between the Drill exterior and the Fire Giant boss inside. If you don't get the trophy, you can quit and continue from the boss, but not the exterior.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/30.jpgInto the Void!http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Knock 30 enemies into abysses on Muspelheim.

You'll probably get this by accident by hitting some of the flying enemies so that they fall down the holes. You can also use the Grapple move (:circle:) on the smaller enemies and then press :circle: in order to throw them off of cliffs. Do this to 30 enemies and this will pop.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/31.jpgSnuff Jobhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Extinguish 10 Warlord flames with Wind Powers.

This is another one you'll likely get by accident if you use lots of Wind powers during Muspelheim. If you're having trouble, use your Wind powers on the tall enemies with swords that seem to have flames coursing across their bodies to extinguish them. Do this to ten, and this will pop.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/34.jpgThe Bombhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Prevent the Scabrite Bomb from detonating without using any tap or charged Elemental Powers.

During Asgard Besieged, you will have to defend a large bomb from small Infernir enemies that explode. Use Hammer Throws or normal Melee combos to keep them away from the bomb, but do not use any elemental powers at all. Simply don't press :triangle: at all during this section, and this should drop as soon as you progress to the next section, in which you have to destroy the supports of the bomb before the drill detonates it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/35.jpgFlawless Defensehttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

Complete the defense of Asgard with 75% Morale.

During Asgard Besieged, you will have a Morale meter that continually drops. You must complete this section and get to the Scabrite bomb with 75% Morale when you finish. There are 5 sections to complete with the Morale meter:

 • Defend the Ramparts
 • Reclaim the Gjallarhorn
 • Defend the Gjallarhorn
 • Fight off the Frost Giant
 • Destroy the Infernir Drills

Play through this section once to get a feel for each section, then load an earlier save and give it another go if you don't manage it. This isn't too hard, especially on Easy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/12.jpgIf He Be Worthyhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

Defeat a giant enemy without taking any damage.

This can be done on any giant enemy during the game, but I'd recommend the first Frost Goliath in Niflheim. Play through on Easy, pummel him with Whirling Throws, and grapple as soon as possible to strip down his health. Win the fight without being hit, and you'll get this. This is another one where if you do get hit, you can exit and continue from the main menu to retry.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/15.jpgEjectedhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png(H)

Rip the Jötun warrior out of the Frost Goliath's chest.

This will almost certainly drop during your first playthrough, though it can be missed if you try hard. When fighting a Frost Goliath, grapple him whenever possible and destroy his arms. The next time you grapple him, you'll only be able to reach his chest, which you should hit with :square:. If you do this enough times, the chest cavity will crack, and you will pull the Jotun out of the Goliath and kill him, unlocking this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/24.jpgGentle Gianthttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png(H)

Spare a Mire Giant.

After completing the barge section in Vanaheim, the Mire Giant that was pulling your barge will climb up and challenge you to a fight. Instead of attacking him, look for the two diagrams on the floor you can activate with Mjolnir. Do this without killing the Giant and he'll climb back into the water and walk away, giving you this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/670/03.jpgLegend of Valhallahttp://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/../images/site/icons/trophy_gold.png

Complete the game on Valhallan Difficulty (hardest).

You have to complete the game once on any other difficulty to unlock Valhallan. Play through the game on this difficulty and complete it to get this. This will likely be the last trophy you unlock before the Platinum. The hardest part of this will almost definitely be Mangog, the final boss.

Looks good, I've just noticed this so far:

The Bomb

Prevent the Scabrite Bomb from detonating without using any tap or charged Elemental Powers.

During Asgard Besieged, you will have to defend a large bomb from small Infernir enemies that explode. Use Hammer Throws or normal Melee combos to keep them away from the bomb, but do not use any elemental powers at all. Simply don't press at all during this section, and this should drop as soon as you progress to the next section, in which you have to destroy the supports of the bomb before the drill detonates it.

You have don't press CIRCLE but don't you mean TRIANGLE?

Also, you can use my videos at YouTube - shoe478's Channel if you feel like they are necessary. I have a couple more besides the collectibles.

I do indeed mean that. Thanks for catching it!

I'll insert your videos where they're appropriate, I'm sure they'll be a lot of help.

Trust me, stay well away from this crap. I've almost fiished my first playthrough and it's like sticking needles into my eye's!

Sadly, I agree :( (Thor had such potential, cool variety of weapons and moves and a good storyline.)

Well done on the guide :)

Thanks for making the guide. I finally got my plat over the weekend. Valhallan difficulty was so hard, especially the bosses, but perseverance and learning the patterns helped me overcome them eventually. For the difficulty rating, I would have to say it is about a 9/10 overall. If you want to improve on your guide, you can include tips for boss fights on Valhallan difficulty. I had trouble with all of them!

Most reviews gave this game an awful rating. I disagree. Being a fan of the hack'n'slash genre, I thought Thor was pretty decent. Sure, it is not Devil May Cry, God of War, Ninja Gaiden Sigma or even Bayonetta, but the combat, boss fights and overall gameplay won me over. I did try playing in 3D, but that was poorly implemented, being jerky and a headache to watch, so I turned it off after a chapter.

I gotta give kudos to the developers for making a lot of the trophies missable. That makes you really need to work for it! Many games these days give you a "given" trophy just for finishing a chapter. Except for the 5 trophies for completing each world in Thor, you will most likely have to work for most of the others. Now that's a challenge!

Lastly, I have some gripes about your description for the "Volley" trophy. You said:

"During Vanaheim, the War Beast will be sent to kill you. You'll know it when you see it, since it will have a large cannon on it's head..."

I wasted some time here, since before the actual War Beast appeared, I mistook the smaller beasts, also with canons on their heads, as the war beast on my first playthrough. You will first see these smaller ones while taking out the 3rd mortar, just after the river barge section, as well as just before the actual War Beast comes out. I wasted time here trying to reflect their projectiles. I think you should change your description to say something like the following:

"Near the end of Vaneheim, Ulik stands atop a door. To continue, you need to build up your fury meter with smaller beasts, and press R1 to unleash it to continue. After which, Ulik will say aloud that he has sent the War Beast upon you. Then you will see this giant beast crash through with a canon on his head. He will shoot yellow fireballs at you. Just reflect any 3 of them to get the trophy. Do this before grappling the beast and knocking his canon off."

I really appreciate the hard work on the guide. Good job.

I would make one recommendation to put a list in the road map that shows the trophies in chronological order. That way we know exactly what trophy is available next and don't miss any. Could save someone serious time considering there is no chapter select.

Taking this a step further, I think this should be a requirement for ANY trophy guide relating to ANY game without a chapter select, BEFORE it's stickied.

Some of the collectible descriptions were vague (I missed one on the second to last level due to misinterpreting the timing and location and had to reload and spend another hour redoing my work), but overall nice guide.

I'd like to point out that getting the "Ejected" trophy is actually more easily missable than hard to miss... as if you use the Triangle move on his chest instead of the Square move, Thor will attack the head part instead... which is why I never got it myself, as I was trying to do more damage to it and instead, the head was attacked via the Triangle button.

As for the game so far... it's okay I guess, still not up there with the likes of Wolverine, Green Lantern (which I enjoyed) and Captain America, that's for sure.
