Introduction: The Lord of the Rings: The War in the North is a hack-and-slash RPG set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings universe. Telling the tale of Eradan, Andriel and Farin, The War in the North takes place parallel to the events of the books and movies.

Step 1: Completing campaign on Normal difficulty.

As this game will require 3 playthroughs, this is the default starting difficulty. You will get the bulk of the trophies done on this playthrough, most without trying for them.

Step 2: Complete campaign on ‘Heroic’ difficulty.

After beating the game on Normal, you will unlock Heroic. You will keep all of your items and levels for this run though, and it will most likely be your easiest.

Step 3: Complete campaign on ‘Legendary’ difficulty.

Once again, you will unlock Legendary after beating Heroic. Same rules apply.

Step 4: Online Trophy

There is one trophy, Strength of our Alliance, that requires 2 other players. This can be done at any time through the ‘Multi-player’ option on the home screen.

Revive a fallen ally.

When one of your allies takes too much damage, they will fall to the ground and need to be revived.

Stand over them and press the :cross: button to revive them.

Perform 3 critical hits within 10 seconds.

When an enemy is weakened, a white/yellow arrow will appear over their heads. Press the :triangle: button to perform a critical hit. Do this three times in 10 seconds to get the trophy.

Slay one enemy together with 2 other players.

The only ‘online’ trophy in this game. This trophy requires you to get a ‘Fellowship’ or ‘Group’ Kill on a single enemy. When an enemy is dazed (has a white or yellow arrow above their head), all three players will need to use their :triangle: attack at the same time to perform a finishing move.

Check out the Co-op Partners thread to find a boosting partner.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/02.jpgSeekerhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Discover 25 secrets in a single playthrough.

You discover secrets by breaking through a wall, following ranger footsteps. It is best to play each playthrough on a separate character to find more secrets and this should unlock on the start of your second playthrough. You can also choose to go back through a level with another character to get this in only one playthrough if you want.

Note that by a single playthrough the game means on a single save file, so you will have three playthroughs to get this if you are going for the platinum.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/02.jpgGem-studdedhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Slot an elfstone into an item.

Elfstones are enhancements picked up from chests, barrels and enemies that increase the stats of items that have slots. Go into your usable item inventory (:r1: after pressing :select:), find and elfstone and click the :cross: button to ‘use’ the item. You will then need to put it into an item that has a slot for this to unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/02.jpgRelentlesshttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

While in Hero Mode, perform a streak of 50 hits.

‘Hero Mode’ is activated after killing a dazed enemy (one with a yellow or white triangle above their head) with a :triangle: finishing attack.

Once you’re in the mode, you will need to perform a hit streak of 50. Taking too long between hits or getting hit too much will cause the counter to reset.

This can be done in any area with lots of enemies, but here are a couple of suggestions:

1) The ‘Fornost’ mission: Upon falling through the floor, you will enter a sewer area. A gate will open and a flood of goblins will rush you. Initiate hero mode on one of the first goblins and they will keep swarming you.

2) The ‘Lorien’ challenge mission: This is the preferred challenge mission to get this as there are no sappers, and there are a lot of enemies each wave.

3) The ‘Barrow-Downs’: After clearing out the first two tombs, you will defeat a Barrow-Wight and move into the third and final tomb. There are a lot of enemies here and you should be able to string together a 50 streak.

Note that you can use your arrows to hit enemies in between hits if they are not close enough to you.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/02.jpgNow for wrath, now for ruin!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Kill 4 enemies simultaneously.

Simply kill 4 enemies with one attack to unlock this. Each hero will have an area effect attack, usually :r2: + :square:. Use this on a group of weakened or weaker enemies, such as hordes of goblins to unlock this.

Note that it may be better to do this on your second or third playthrough as you will do more damage and be able to kill the goblins in one hit.

See Relentless for good places to get this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/02.jpgTroll's Banehttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Slay the wild snow trolls.

Story related and cannot be missed.

When scaling Mount Gundaband, a wild snow troll will burst through the wall, and you will have to kill it along with 2 others before continuing.

Unlock every active-cast ability in one character’s skill tree.

Active-cast abilities are abilities that are used with the :l1: modifier (i.e. :l1:+:triangle:). However, this trophy also requires you to unlock each of the (r2) abilities as well. Unlock each of these skills with any character to unlock this trophy.

For Eradan you would upgrade the following:

Left: Evasion

Middle: Ranger Strike, Dual Wield (x3), Dual Strike (x2), Cleave (x1), Assail (x1)

Right:Heavy Shot, Bow Master (x2), Stunning Shot (x2), Volley (x1), Piercing Shot (x1)

If you are still stumped, watch this:

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/12.jpgWar-hardened(B)

Achieve at least 1 rank in a tier 3 skill.

Upon gaining enough experience, you will level up. Along with 3 attribute points to put into Strength, Dexterity, Stamina or Will, you will receive 1 skill point. There are 3 branches of skills, and you simply need to fill out one branch, one tier at a time until you can put 1 of your attribute points into the 3rd tier of skills.

The AI may unlock this for you as they will upgrade their character's abilities as they level.

Thanks to DarqueDragon for this info.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/13.jpgLike a Thunderbolt(S)

Deal 3000 damage with a single ranged strike.

Use a ranged attack (:l2:) to deal 3000 damage on one hit. You will most likely get this as you upgrade your stats on your first play through, but if not, it will be much easier on your second and third playthroughs. It works best to use Eradan for this trophy with high dexterity.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/13.jpgFell-handed(S)

Deal 1500 damage in a single melee strike.

Use a melee attack to deal 1500 damage on one hit. You will most likely get this as you upgrade your stats on your first play through, but if not, it will be much easier on your second and third playthroughs. It works best to use Farin for this trophy with high strength.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/13.jpgLiving Shield(S)

Absorb 25,000 total damage during the course of 1 level.

This trophy requires you to take, or absorb, 25,000 points of damage in 1 level. You will have to go out of your way to get this by getting hit a lot and then healing or using health potions, then rinse and repeat. It is best to do this on your second and third playthroughs, but it can be done on your first it will just take longer.

See Relentless for good places to do this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/16.jpgMany deeds, great and small(B)

Complete 15 quests in a single playthrough.

Aside from the main quests, there are several other side quests in the game. There are 3 attainable in Bree, another at Sarn Ford (note that this Athelas quest can be failed if you don’t turn it in after you complete the Barrow-downs), 4 at Rivendell, and several others that will start along the way. Complete the listed objectives and return to the NPC’s to receive an award and get closer to the 15. This can be done on your first playthrough.

There are certain glitches in the game that may result when you turn your system off. Sometimes, the quests will disappear, and in certain occasions even talking to the NPC’s will not get the quest back. Try to play through a chapter at a time and turn in the quests either as soon as you complete them or right after you complete the chapter to make sure you avoid this.

Note that by a single playthrough the game means on a single save file, so you will have three playthroughs to get this if you are going for the platinum.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/16.jpgWar-machinist(B)

Kill 150 enemies with war machines in a single playthrough.

War machines are mounted crossbows that you will need to use several times throughout the main story, as early as Fornost. While you will most likely get this just by playing through the game, perhaps the best time to go for this is when you are protecting the dwarves at Mount Guldaband.

Note that by a single playthrough the game means on a single save file, so you will have three playthroughs to get this if you are going for the platinum.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/16.jpgWell-arrayed(B)

Equip all parts of an armor set.

Certain pieces of armor belong to ‘sets’ in the game, such as ‘Fell-hunter’, ‘Marskman’, or ‘Alliance’. In order to get this trophy, you must equip a helmet, gloves, breastplate, legs and feet of the same set.

It’s very possible to get this through your playthroughs as long as you only sell your duplicate armor pieces, but if you are having trouble, try traveling between Bree, Sarn Ford and Rivendell and shopping at the vendors. Each time you visit these places they will have new items, and it is very possible to find that one item you are missing to unlock this.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/19.jpgKeen-eyed Marksman (B)

Kill 50 enemies with headshots in a single playthrough.

Using ranged attacks, try to aim for the head of your enemies. The system is fairly generous, but I found it helpful to aim a little higher than you might in a first person shooter. You’ll know you got a headshot when you see ‘Bullseye’ or ‘Headshot’ on the right side of the screen.

Note that by a single playthrough the game means on a single save file, so you will have three playthroughs to get this if you are going for the platinum.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/19.jpgSwift-winged Warrior(B)

Summon Beleram 10 times in a single playthrough.

After rescuing Beleram at Fornost, there will be times when you are out in the open that you can summon Beleram by hitting :l2: + :cross: while aiming at a target. You will need to have a Feather in your inventory to do this, and you can get these from chests and barrels. There are several times you are required to do this, and to get this trophy you need to do it 10 times.

Note that by a single playthrough the game means on a single save file, so you will have three playthroughs to get this if you are going for the platinum.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/19.jpgWarrior Exemplar (B)

For one character unlock every skill that provides a modification to War Cry, Sanctuary or Evasion.

This is another attribute trophy. When you are leveling up, focus on putting your skill points into every skill that you see that modifies Farin’s War Cry, Andriel’s Sanctuary or Eradan’s Evasion (their :r2: + :circle: skills).

You can also use a respec token, which is purchaseable from a vendor, to re-allocate your attribute points just for the sake of this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/19.jpgDefender of the North (B)

Achieve level 10.

Straightforward. Simply gain enough experience to reach level 10. You’ll get this halfway through your first playthrough.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/23.jpgChampion of the North (S)

Achieve level 20.

This is definitely an attainable trophy on your first playthrough, but don’t fear if you don’t get it. You’ll have two more playthroughs to go and levels carry over between playthroughs. You’ll most likely reach level 40 midway in your final playthrough.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/19.jpgHerb-master (B)

Create 15 potions in a single playthrough.

While all characters have the ability to make potions, only Andriel has the ability to forage the ingredients to make these potions. Mirkwood is a good location to collect herbs, but they are attainable at Fornost and onwards. To make potions, go into your inventory to the items section and you will see a crafting icon (hammer and anvil) on certain elements. When you hit :cross: to use them, you will then need to select another item on the list to combine ingredients. There are several herbs than can be combined to make health potions, and underneath the combine menu it will tell you what result will be achieved my mixing the herbs.

Note that by a single playthrough the game means on a single save file, so you will have three playthroughs to get this if you are going for the platinum.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/23.jpgBane of Mordor (S)

Kill 600 enemies in a single playthrough.

Kill 600 total enemies in the game to unlock this trophy. By simply playing through your first time on Normal you will unlock this.

Note that by a single playthrough the game means on a single save file, so you will have three playthroughs to get this if you are going for the platinum.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/27.jpgDragon-hoard (B)

Amass 25,000 coins.

Simply collect 25,000 currency by looting barrels and chests and selling items and this trophy will unlock.

You need to have 25,000 coins in your wallet at one time.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/23.jpgExpert Treasure-hunter (S)

Locate 5 gilded treasure chests in a single playthrough.

Gilded treasure chests look like regular treasure chests but are colored and often found in secret locations. These chests can often be found by using the special abilities of Eradan (following the glowing Dunedain footprints), Farin (smashing through walls) and Andriel (using magic to uncover doors in walls).

Note that by a single playthrough the game means on a single save file, so you will have three playthroughs to get this if you are going for the platinum.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/23.jpgVictorious in Battle(S)

Complete a playthrough on at least Normal difficulty.

The default difficulty is Normal. Simply beat the game and this is yours.

Note that playthroughs are cumulative and you will keep your levels and items upon game completion.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/30.jpgAgainst All Odds (S)

Complete a playthrough on Legendary difficulty.

Beat the game on ‘Normal’ to unlock ‘Heroic.’ Beat the game on ‘Heroic’ to unlock ‘Legendary.’ Beat the game on ‘Legendary’ to unlock this trophy!

Note that playthroughs are cumulative and you will keep your levels and items upon game completion.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/30.jpgThe Lidless Eye (S)

Complete the investigation of the Cult of the Lidless Eye.

*Missable*

The ‘Cult of the Lidless Eye’ is a side quest that starts in Fornost. Before you push the first of the two catapults off the side of the cliff, this scroll will be found on the enemy sorcerer. Pick it up, and upon arriving in Rivendell, talk to Elrond to activate this side quest.

The locations of the scrolls can be found on our sister site at:

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=340721

Note that while you can go back to the same levels and get these scrolls repeatedly, going back and collecting the same scroll again will not result in a quest completion. Elrond requires 7 DISTINCT scrolls, and you may bug this quest and you will have to complete it on another playthrough.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/465/30.jpgHero of Legend (S)

Complete a playthrough on Heroic difficulty.

Beat the game on ‘Normal’ to unlock ‘Heroic.’ Beat the game on ‘Heroic’ to unlock ‘Legendary’ as well as this trophy.

Note that playthroughs are cumulative and you will keep your levels and items upon game completion.

Well, that answers my question. Great guide! Also, a note about headshots that you probably already know: you can get them on the spiders as well. You have to aim at the face, obviously, but it seems to be pretty lenient with the shot placement. Once I was just firing with the repeater into a small swarm and got all but one as a Headshot kill.

Unfortunately I do not understand how to get the Battle-Master trohpy. Does if mean that I need to pick all spells (i.e. R2+Square), or is it just concerning the L1 spells? Because there are only 3 L1+button spells for female character, yet no trophy. Hopefully someone can clarify this for me.

edit: thanks biller88 for clarifying the trophy guide description, I understand it better.

hej my qeustion,

is de 25.000 absorb a trophy that you get without trying (in play trough 2-3)?

if not how can i best get/try it??

Not likely, I had to go out of my way to get it. I got it on legendary, by letting my AI companions die and then letting myself get shot up with arrows while I chugged potions when I was low health.

I will update the guide as I was very unclear:

For Andriel:

Left: Sanctuary, Healing Light, Shielding Light, and Heal

Middle: Word of Command, Tempest, Smite, and Sundering Command.

Right:Charge Staff, Wrath of the Eldar, 2 bottom skills.

Thanks biller88 much easier to understand now.

Also does anyone know it the Seeker trophy count only towards new secrets? Like if I play Farin all 3 playthroughs do I get counted for finding the same secret or do I need to use all characters.

edit: nvm, i got the trophy

just got the strength of our alliance trophy with a friend online, and a friend sitting right next to me (local) what you have to do, is make your local friend join your game, then go to multiplayer and send an invite to the online friend and your good to go... GO GET THEM TIGER GRRRR

The Lidless Eye is also easily missable, right? Because:

1) If it glitches, you will have to try again on a subsequent playthrough (like you said in the guide)

2) If you overlook one of the locations (ex. the 2 chests)

Note that by a single playthrough the game means on a single save file, so you will have three playthroughs to get this if you are going for the platinum.

Technically you can take as many playthroughs as you need to get certain trophies, but yes try to get everything within the 3.

I think it's level/stage/place/area/chapter, not character level. But either way, you can earn it very quickly on Legendary by hitting the red mine when you first meet the Sappers; damage scales with difficulty.

Yeah but first I'd have to reply normal and heroic :(

I will test it later

For the armour set trophy I understand it's a set but all the individual armours have their own name does the set have to have the same name example Guard leggings, guard helmet and so on or can it be mixed within the set name example Marksman?

You need to update your guide for Armour trophy shoulder armour also require.

Oh I see you got the trophy already ^^ But yeah, they must be from the same set.

When starting new game plus for heroic, do you just start new game?

Yup, the game automatically changes the difficulty for you; likewise, it will happen for Legendary. You cannot switch back.
