So after months of watching from the sidelines, you've finally decided to take the plunge: you're taking part in your first season of the Trophy Hunters on PlayStationTrophies.org, starting on September 1st. Congratulations! You're in for a fun and unique experience.

I took part in the first season of THL and did pretty well, coming in third in the individual rankings and singlehandedly getting my team into the top 50%. I'd like to share with you some of the tactics I used to make that happen -- and by a staggering coincidence, I have some games for sale that can help.

The most obvious thing you'll need for THL is a collection of games with quick, easy trophies. At the very least, you should be earning no less than four trophies per hour from active play. Heavy Fire: Shattered Spear, for instance, will net you 32 trophies in 5-7 hours, including the platinum.

Of course, just because a game isn't a quick 100% or platinum doesn't mean it's useless to you. Some games give out the majority of the trophies fast and furious, but require a tremendous amount of grind for one or two at the end.

Cabela's North American Adventures is easy enough for the most part, but the Shooting Gallery trophies will take a lot of time and luck to acquire. Blow through the rest of the game during THL, and leave the last couple for after the season is done.

But active play is only part of the story. Success in THL is largely a matter of time management. For best results, you should be trying to earn trophies at all times.

For example, do you ever find yourself within sight of your PS3 but focused on other tasks (homework, Internet, etc.) which require your attention instead? In a case like this, you need what I call a semi-passive game -- one which requires input only once every few minutes, and is prepared to wait for it. Semi-passive games don't need to yield as many trophies as active ones, since they are essentially bonuses.

Fit in Six and My Fitness Coach Club are the same game (US and EU, respectively) with stackable trophies. They are workout games that let you work on the honor system. Start a workout going, let it run for a few minutes while you get work done, then repeat.

Speaking of workouts, another useful THL technique is to incorporate trophy hunting into other activities. If you exercise regularly, or have been thinking of starting, Move Fitness is a prime way to make it happen during THL. For 15-20 hours of doing something you were going to do anyway, spread out over a few weeks, you can add bonus trophies to your collection.

Visual novels and point-and-click adventure games are always useful to trophy hunters, but especially so during THL. So long as you have a walkthrough to follow, the element of chance is all but eliminated. As a bonus, most visual novels can be used as semi-passive games (see above) as long as you aren't concerned with following the story. This is likely your best use for Beyond the Future: Fix the Time Arrows.

Well, I had to include something for the people sitting this season out. Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed is a blast to play, like what you'd get if the cast of Genshiken were in a Yakuza game. Can be stacked with the PS3 version, along with their counterparts in Japan and Korea.
