stickghost
I just bought a new (well to me at least) PS3 Slim and I notice everytime I shut it off, it... I'll use the term 'creaks'? You know, like when wood just randomly settles? I don't recall my fat system (or any) doing that, or at least not as loud. I think I'd have noticed. Is it just different acoustics or maybe I just never noticed since I wasn't paranoid about it dying? So yeah, is this normal? Or at least perhaps normal for a system that hasn't been 'broken in' yet? Am I just being WAY TOO paranoid?
Terminator
If you've been playing graphically intense games for hours on end then that's completely normal, mine does it every so often when I've been playing something graphically intense like Heavy Rain or GT5 . c1ned1ne
It's normal for all electric devices. Once powered on the current will heat up certain components which then will heat up their surrounding and so forth. And with heat comes expansion, the creaking occurs once all is cooling down and the strain relieves.
stickghost
I figured it was normal; it's just I never heard a system creak THAT loud. Maybe it is different acoustics of the model or maybe I'm just more aware of the sounds now that I've had to replace my system. Then again, it IS also currently sitting on a wooden piano bench (it's my temporary downstairs shelf for summer gaming) that might in fact be the creaker (due to contact), although I'm 99% certain the noise is coming from the system seeing how I never was bothered by this noise before. But hey, had to ask before my 30 day return warranty's up.
