Default Laptop fan (can be) loud, even though not hot?

Hey guys,

So sometime last week, my laptop shut itself down for (I think) the first time since I got it. But this was because I was blocking the vent with my leg without knowing it. My bad.

Just now when I turned it on, the laptop fan decided to be pretty loud and the computer shut itself down. I had my hand checking the temp at various points, and the laptop didn't get all that hot at all. Anywhere.

Any idea why? I guess it could be a dust issue inside the comp or something, rather than a temperature issue? I also leave my laptop on sleep mode rather than shutting it down, dont know if that helps?

It's no big issue yet, but I'd like to know what I can do to prevent it from escalating
