Tearaway Collectibles Guide - Papercraft Plans, Presents, Extra Things To Do

Introduction:

Tearaway is Media Molecule's latest game, exclusive to the PlayStation Vita, and one of the first games to truly utilise all of the Vita's utilities to their full extent. You play as either iota or atoi, depending on your preferences, and your goal is simple: deliver a message. Trophy-wise, this game is very easy and poses little to no difficulty. The hardest thing about the game is collecting the many collectibles, but even that isn't too bad.

fcMQTHW.png

Step 1: Complete the game, collecting as many presents, papercraft plans and confetti as possible.

Our first step is to simply complete the game. You can collect as many of the collectibles as you like, or you can simply ignore them and collect them at a later stage. If you're following a collectible guide however, it is recommended you collect them all as you play, as that way you likely won't need to replay more than a handful of levels after you finish the game. Beyond that, there really isn't anything to look out for here, except for opportunities for Lunch Break and Good Old Days, though of course these aren't necessary in this step.

Upon completing Step 1, you will earn:

Step 2: Replay chapters for 100% and miscellaneous trophies.

Once you've completed the game, all that's left to do is finish collecting the collectibles if you haven't done so already, as well as getting any of the remaining miscellaneous trophies.

Upon completing Step 2, you will earn:

Dispatch 10 Scraps while riding the Pig

At the beginning of the third chapter, Maypole Fields, you'll get to ride a Pig through a section. There are more than 10 Scraps in this section, so if you defeat all enemies here you'll get the trophy. If not, you can simply replay the chapter, as only one other chapter has the Pig but no Scraps.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1674/314.jpg Free Hug (B)

Throw a Gopher at a Scrap

Gophers are the little brown animals that run around. There are several places you can get this, but the best place is near the beginning of the first chapter, The Standing Stones. When you encounter a Scrap caught in the curtains that you need to open, you need to defeat it by throwing something at it. Walk over to one of the many Gophers in this area and pick it up with :square:, then throw it at the Scrap with :square:.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1674/F60.jpg Dangerous Digit (B)

Dispatch 40 Scraps with your finger

For this, you must defeat 40 Scraps by breaking through the ground with the :touchpad:. There are plenty of opportunities to do this throughout the game, but if you want to get it out of the way early, you can simply repeat the first chapter (The Standing Stones), as you'll get about 10-15 kills each time you complete it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1674/5CE.jpg Tower of Doom (B)

Tumble a pile of 6 Scraps

This is only possible in the sixth chapter, Crash Site. Here you'll be introduced to Red Scraps who can stack onto each other. Partway through the level a Squirrel will tell you to dispatch of all the Scraps in the area. 3 Red Scraps and a Scrap will spawn near you, then another 3 Red Scraps, a Scrap and a Stilts Scrap will spawn on the other side of the area when you approach. Defeat all the non-Red Scraps first, then let the Red Scraps stack on top of each other. As soon as the 6th Red Scrap jumps to the pile, start rolling with :circle: and knock them over before one jumps off. Be aware that if a stack of Red Scraps walk into the large leaf between where the two groups spawn, one will die and stop you from being able to attempt it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1674/916.jpg Shredder (S)

Dispatch 200 Scraps

Simply defeat 200 Scraps by any means necessary. I unlocked this during The Lab.

For more details, please see Scrapped.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1674/554.jpg Scrapped (G)

Dispatch all the Scraps

Glitched.

For this, you must defeat every Scrap in every chapter at least once. You can check your progress by checking the respective chapter's Bookmark. Chances are you'll kill every Scrap on your first playthrough, assuming you actively defeat those you see and don't just avoid them. There are a total of 389 Scraps through the game. This is slightly glitched, but it is very minor. Once you defeat all Scraps (which if you're doing chapter-by-chapter, you should do in The Caverns), the trophy won't pop. In order to unlock it, you'll need to replay any chapter and defeat any Scrap.

There also appears to be what may be a glitch in the form of players finishing a chapter with all but 1 Scrap being defeated. This seems to occur the most on The Caverns (154/155 defeated), and it isn't known what causes it. If this happens to you, your best bet is to simply restart the application for Tearaway and redo the level a few times.

Below is a list of all Scraps per level, along with locations for hard-to-find Scraps, if applicable.

  • The Standing Stones: 37 Scraps
  • Wassail Orchard: 12 Scraps
  • Maypole Fields: 14 Scraps
  • The Barn: 25 Scraps
  • Gibbet Hill: 26 Scraps
    • Near the top of Gibbet Hill, next to the Mummer with the blue present, is a portacabin. Approaching this will release an often missed Scrap.

    [*]Crash Site: 74 Scraps

    [*]The Lab: 46 Scraps

    [*]The Caverns: 155 Scraps

    • After falling down the hole and hitting every ring of Confetti, 2 Scraps will spawn behind you.
    • In the area with two pinwheels above two pipes you can jump in, there's a Scrap that is jumping between these pipes. Sometimes it won't spawn at all.
    • In the fights with Wendigos, enemies killed by the Wendigos may not count sometimes.

Create 10 Decorations with the Cutting Mat

At the end of the first chapter, The Standing Stones, you will need to create a crown for the Squirrel King. Once you do, you can freely create Decorations whenever you wish. Hold the :touchscreen: on your Messenger to enter the Decorations menu, then press the third icon on the left, the scissors and paper. Then press the top icon on the right to make one. Create any 10 Decorations for the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1674/A93.jpg Too Much Swag (B)

Put more than 10 Decorations on your Messenger

In the middle of the first chapter, The Standing Stones, you'll be taught how to place Decorations on your character. Simply place 10 on yourself at once for the trophy to unlock. You can place the same Decoration 10 times if you wish, it will still count.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1674/C7D.jpg Paperazzi (B)

Take 15 photos of the paper world

Simply take 15 photos in-game. You'll easily get this when collecting all the papercraft plans.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1674/74D.jpg Doppleganger (B)

Take a photo of the other Messenger

In the chapter The Tear, you'll come across many Messengers standing around on floating rocks as you progress. Simply take a photo of any Messenger to receive this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1674/143.jpg Lunch Break (S)

Take a sepia photo of a Squirrel eating an acorn

In the second chapter, Wassail Orchard, you'll eventually come to a fork in the path. Head left here and you'll be able to jump over to a room you can open with the :touchscreen:. In here you'll find a bunch of Squirrels and the Squirrel King. Near the Squirrel King are a few acorns. If you pick one up near a Squirrel or throw one at a Squirrel, they will start eating it. Do this, then pull out your camera with :triangle: and take a photo of the Squirrel quickly with the Sepia filter (costs 100 Confetti, second filter on the right side). You only have a few seconds to take the photo, as the Squirrel will eat it quickly.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640x480q90/209/4wtc.jpg

Alternatively, you can get this immediately after boarding the gondola near the end of Wassail Orchard.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1674/F2C.jpg Globe Trotter (S)

Take a photo in each Chapter

Glitched.

Simply take a photo in every Chapter. You'll take a photo in every chapter when collecting papercraft plans, with the exception of The You, which has none. Make sure to take a photo here as it is required. This has glitched for some people and won't unlock even after taking several photos in each chapter. These isn't much to say other than to restart the application for Tearaway and try taking the photos again.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1674/3CA.jpg Good Old Days (S)

Take a black and white photo of a Gopher riding an Elk

This is best done in the chapter The Lab. At the start you'll find several Elk and Gophers roaming. Pick up the Gopher and throw him onto the Elk's back, then take a photo of it with the Black and White filter (costs 100 Confetti, first filter on the right side). This can be done as early as Maypole Fields, but given this area is very hilly it is very difficult to successfully throw the Gopher onto the Elk's back, thus isn't recommended.

Take a photo of Yellow Head

At the end of The Desert chapter, after talking to the cactus, you can fold a bridge to left and then climb two sticky walls. Up here is the last present and papercraft plan for this chapter, and from here you can see Yellow Head sitting on a ledge.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1674/E17.jpg Wendigo Fissure (S)

Finish the Wendigo Fissure without losing your Stamp

In order to lose your Stamp, you must respawn at the latest checkpoint. This can happen either when you fall off the map, or if you get hit twice in quick succession by Wendigos. It is highly recommended you ignore this trophy until you have completed the level at least once, and preferrably acquired all items in the level first. This way you won't have any distractions and can solely focus on surviving. There isn't much that can be said about this other than that, simply avoid the Wendigos!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1674/583.jpg Between the Pages (S)

Finish Between the Pages without losing your Stamp

In order to lose your Stamp, you must respawn at the latest checkpoint. For this chapter, the only way you can lose your stamp is by falling off the map. It is highly recommended you ignore this trophy until you have completed the level at least once, and preferrably acquired all items in the level first. This way you won't have any distractions and can solely focus on surviving. Don't rush yourself and make sure your jumps are right and you should get this without hassle.

Do note that the trophy won't unlock as soon as you finish Between the Pages. For it to unlock, you must reach the bookmark for The Desert, thus triggering a checkpoint.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1674/088.jpg Grand Tear (S)

Finish the Tear without losing your Stamp

In order to lose your Stamp, you must respawn at the latest checkpoint. For this chapter, the only way you can lose your stamp is by falling off the map. It is highly recommended you ignore this trophy until you have completed the level at least once, and preferrably acquired all items in the level first. This way you won't have any distractions and can solely focus on surviving. Don't rush yourself and make sure your jumps are right and you should get this without hassle. When you're rolling down the pink paper, make sure to take the widest path, as the skinny path is very dangerous.

Collect all the papercraft plans in the world

Papercraft plans are white objects scattered throughout the chapters that you can photograph. When you take a photo of them, their colour will return and you'll be able to print off the plan to be able to build that object in real life (if you so desire). There are a total of 53 papercraft plans throughout the game. There are 5 special papercraft plans, but only one of these is required for the trophy, The Sun. For this, simply take a photo of it in any chapter. The remaining four special papercraft plans (iota, atoi, Mini iota, Mini atoi) however are not required for this trophy or Completist.

For a complete collectible guide, please see this link: Tearaway Collectibles Guide - Papercraft Plans, Presents, Extra Things To Do.

  • The Standing Stones: 4 Papercraft Plans
  • Wassail Orchard: 5 Papercraft Plans
  • Maypole Fields: 4 Papercraft Plans
  • The Barn: 4 Papercraft Plans
  • Gibbet Hill: 4 Papercraft Plans
  • Crash Site: 3 Papercraft Plans
  • The Harbour: 3 Papercraft Plans
  • Wendigo Fissure: 4 Papercraft Plans
  • The Lab: 4 Papercraft Plans
  • The Caverns: 4 Papercraft Plans
  • Between the Pages: 3 Papercraft Plans
  • The Desert: 4 Papercraft Plans
  • The Traveller: 3 Papercraft Plans
  • The Tear: 4 Papercraft Plans
  • Any Chapter: 1 Special Papercraft Plan (The Sun)

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1674/8F0.jpg Completist (G)

100% complete the game

In order to achieve 100%, you must fulfill all criteria in every chapter. This includes papercraft plans (Papercraft Wizard), "extra things to do" (Do-Gooder), Presents (Gifted), Scraps (Scrapped) and Confetti. The first four criteria are covered in the aforementioned trophies, however Confetti is tied to no other trophy. For the most part the Confetti throughout the chapters are extremely easy to find, though a few will be hard to find. If you're replaying a chapter, you can tell which Confetti you have or haven't collected, as already-collected Confetti will appear as white dots, as opposed to coloured symbols.

Whilst most of the Confetti in the chapters are simple to locate, there are some hard-to-find Confetti pieces that have caused trouble for some people:

  • Maypole Fields: 170 Confetti
    • 2 Confetti located underneath the water wheel behind the Barn.

    [*]Crash Site: 170 Confetti

    • 5 Confetti behind the waterfall at the start of the chapter.
    • 3 Confetti inside the house you must take a photo of for the first "extra thing to do".

    [*]Wendigo Fissure: 360 Confetti

    • 2 Confetti on the first 2 platforms when Wendigos are throwing rocks at you. These won't spawn for a few seconds, normally as you're jumping towards the 3rd platform. They will also spawn if you die in this area.

    [*]The Caverns: 330 Confetti

    • 4 rings of 8 Confetti as you fall at the start of the chapter, some of the Confetti pieces can be easily missed.
    • 6 Confetti on top of a box where you're first attacked by a jump pad Scrap. Use the jump pad Scrap to reach them before you kill it.
    • 4 Confetti above the drum jump pad that appears when you hold :cross:. Make sure to get them before jumping across.
    • 2 Confetti at the peak of the jump of two jump pads before and after you help the scientists down.

Right, well that's the guide itself. I'll have a collectible guide up within the next 24 hours, but I haven't slept in a while so I'll just get this up for now :p I'll also add in a bunch of screenshots for some of the trophies.

thanks for this looking forward to the collectible guide hope it tells you how to get 100% on all chapters

It will show all Presents, Papercraft Plans and Extra Things To Do. If there's enough demand, I may go through the game again and list all the Confetti, but that's a huge job so would take a while.

Was looking forward to the collectible guide. I'm sad :(
Heh, I needed some sleep! I'm back now, so gimme a few hours ;)

No problem. Great guide for everything else so far. Found everything except a single enemy in Gibbet Hill :(

Edit: There are 3 areas, and I'm killing 8-8-9 for a total of 25/26. Everytime I kill these, the next area opens.

It's basically at the very end of the level, you need to take a picture of the papercraft near the guy who wants to talk to a squirrel. As soon as you take the picture, a scrap will appear.

Man, you're gonna have a lot of hits in this thread as some of the collectibles can be a pain to find.

Eveytime I remember how dumb I was for not notice the obvious, like the butterfly papercraft right after the fall in The Tear. It was just standing there flying over the flower all the time and I all passed through never noticing XD

Actually I think the collectible guide will have all the hits, most of the non-collectible trophies don't need a guide :p

I saved 1 picture for every chapter. I have 15.

That's the only trophy I miss

Hmm, maybe it can glitch then. I've not heard it happening to anyone else, so it may be a once-off. Have you tried completing the levels after taking a photo as opposed to quitting out after taking a photo?

Nope, that would mean doing the whole game again but I suppose this is my only chance.

It had to be me.

Finally, I found the hidden present I was missing in the The Tear but it'll be a freacking pain to get -.-'

I'll have to go throug 2 paper planet rings to get it, the first paper planet ring is green and lets you stand in it so its good but the second is pink and you will automatically roll all the tine and there's no room for anything in that ring :S

Nevermind that, you will be able to stand in the pink ring too, but sometimes your character will roll for some reason.

Got the present, got the 2 golds missing and the platinum =))

Are you getting the one at the end of the level in the outhouse? Once you photo it to collect the paper craft then throw a stone at it to make the scrap appear.

Great looking guides so far. I was working on one, but am just too slow :p

One minor observation, you can get Papercraft Enthusiast during The Harbour if you have collected everything up until that point. :applause:

I'll have to go throug 2 paper planet rings to get it, the first paper planet ring is green and lets you stand in it so its good but the second is pink and you will automatically roll all the tine and there's no room for anything in that ring :S

I just added them in the collectible guide ;) Didn't even realise the second ring was a rolling one as I got across both without hassle. The skinny pink ramp before it though with all the confetti on it... that took like 50+ attempts to ride the whole thing

One minor observation, you can get Papercraft Enthusiast during The Harbour if you have collected everything up until that point. :applause:

Fixed, cheers.

For my problem with Globe Trotter trophy, I decided to start from the beginning via chapter select and not by starting a new game.

The trophy popped when I took a picture in Maypole Fields just in front of the barn.

Weird but I got my platinum trophy, that's all that matters.
