Introduction:

Swarm is a Action-Platformer that was developed by Hothead Games(Known for the Penny Arcade Adventures and the DeathSpank games) and published by Ignition Entertainment(known for publishing Deadly Premonition and Blacklight: Tango Down). Swarm was released on March 22nd, 2011 on the PlayStation Network and on March 23rd, 2011 on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

The game revolves around little blue creatures known as 'Swarmites' and their mission to collect DNA in order to save their race. At any given moment, you're allowed to control up to 50 Swarmites that will follow your movements in order to overcome obstacles, finish puzzles and collect points. The objective of the game is to accumulate enough points to reach the next level and finish the current level with at least one Swarmite. Although the player controls all the Swarmites, each Swarmite has it's own intelligence, thereby making all interactions between player and Swarmite dynamic.

Overview:

Estimated Difficulty: 6/10 (Placeholder until difficulty thread is created)

Estimated time to 100%: Anywhere from 10-20 Hours (Skill Based)

Road Map

STEP 1: Play through the Game

When you first start to play the game, just play through it. Don't worry about unlocking trophies or getting Death Medals, a majority of them will unlock just as you play through the game. Make sure to collect the requirement amount of points to move onto the next level, otherwise you will have to redo that level.

Step 1.5: Collect All DNA

Technically you should do this while you're playing through the game, but I made it it's own Step since you can then enjoy the game without having to repeat sections if you lose all your Swarmites or if you do not meet the required amount of points to pass onto the next level. Just follow

STEP 2: Complete all Death Medal requirements

Find good areas where you can accumulate the amount of specific deaths you need, and just keep going. The amount of deaths, and the best boosting areas for each Death Medal are listed below in the guide.

STEP 3: Mop Up

If there are any trophies you somehow did not get while playing through the game, collecting DNA, or finishing off the Death Medals, do them now to finish off Swarm.

Step 4: Enjoy

Enjoy your 100% in Swarm and continue to play and have fun!

Trophies:

Bronze Trophies:

Kill 50 Swarmites

Will most likely be your first trophy you earn in the game. In order to get this trophy, you need to just kill 50 Swarmites. Swarmites are the little blue creatures you control. When you first start the game and the first level, just jump all the Swarmites off the cliff to the left. Trophy Unlocked.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/630/ock.jpg The First Million http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

High scores add up to more than 1,000,000

You'll most likely achieve this either after level 2 or level 3. Just collect points, and kill Swarmites to get your multiplier up. It's accumulative and does not need to be just in one level(however it can still easily be achieved if it was just in one level).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/630/ock.jpg Medals of Honor http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Unlock Nine Death Medals

Will unlock as you progress through the game. Please refer to the Death Medal Guide on tips and boosting areas.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/630/ock.jpg Replay http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Replay levels 1, 2 and 3 after level 4 is unlocked

Once you finish the first three levels, repeat them and the trophy will unlock. You can complete them at any time and in no particular order to earn the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/630/ock.jpg In A Hurry http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Achieve a 2X time bonus

In order to be able to attempt this trophy, you will need to replay an already completed level. I suggest level 1 as it's the shortest and easiest. When you replay a level, a timer is displayed in the top right corner. It shows how much your current multiplier is. In order to get this trophy, just complete the level before it goes below 2x. You can still get this trophy if you earn anything above 2x, but it must be at least 2x.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/630/ock.jpg The Answer http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Achieve a high score of 42,000,000

You must get 42 million points in just one level to get this trophy. The best level to do this is level 4 since it already requires you to get 1.6 million. Just make you you continually keep your multiplier alive by collecting points and killing Swarmites, and try to be quick if you're replaying the level, since you can get a high multiplier which could easily save you the trouble of replaying over and over again to get the perfect score.

Bronze Trophies Continued:

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/630/ock.jpg You Are On Fire http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Light your multiplier on fire.

Best obtained on level 4. Find a good spot where you can easily bump up your multiplier very quickly. To make your multiplier on fire, you have to rapidly increase your multiplier a few levels in a matter of seconds.

Silver Trophies:

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/630/ock.jpg King of The Hill http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

Kill the 1st boss

To access level six(which is the first boss level), you must get 600,000 points in level five and also have a total of at least 15 DNA strands from the previous levels. The entire level is just to beat the boss, and although it isn't impossible, it it tricky.

The first boss, named Tam o' Shanter With Extra Cheese, is that big enemy you saw in level four(but could not fight it since it was after you completed the level). It's a big mechanical creature that has four different types of attack, saws, lasers, and fire bug things and mortar fire. The boss fight is repetitive and gets tougher each time you hurt the creature.

  • First thing is that you must avoid the saws. They move in patterns and the area that is about to be sawed in highlighted giving you just enough time to move away. After the saw finishing cutting, make sure not to go near where it sawed. Your Swarmites will burn.
  • The next part you have to overcome is the laserbeams that sprout from the creatures arms. It'll be in specific patterns that get more difficult as you continue to hurt the creature, but I was able to pass through it each time, by making my Swarmites gather on top of each other and just as the laser is about to pass my Swarmites, I jump. Even if I don't time it correctly I still only face minimal losses.
  • After the creatures first two attacks, a mark will sprout on either one of the creature's arms. Simply hold :r2:, get into position, press :cross: and then quickly press :l2:. This will make the Swarmites hit the mark and the creature to jump back.
  • Next after you hit the first mark, another mark will appear near the creature's head. Get your Swarmites into a line by holding :r2: and pressing :cross:. As they climb up, they'll hit the creature's second mark and the creature will move back further and submerge itself in the lava. As this part is occuring, the creature will be breathing fire and releasing little fire bug things. Make sure not to let these get to close to your Swarmites, otherwise they'll explode and cause massive damage.
  • The final part is when the creature will launch a mortar attack with rocks. The ground where the rocks are about to hit will get darker, so just avoid the spots. I did this by holding :l2: and just moving my Swarmites around, it caused the least amount of damage.

After those four steps are done, the creature will return and start back at the beginning. Repeat this three more times and the creature will finally die; netting you the trophy. There are no checkpoints, so if you lose at any point all Swarmites, you'll start back at the beginning of the level.

Reach a 70X multiplier

Even though they are talking about Achievements, the same guidelines apply to trophies.

Gold Trophies:

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/630/ock.jpg Death Becomes You http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_gold.png

Unlock all Death Medals and turn all Progressive Death Medals to gold.

Most of these will come naturally as you progress through the game, and repeat levels to collect DNA and earn more points. Refer to the Death Medal Guide for a complete list of all Death Medals, boosting areas and tips.

Yep, some levels can be annoying. I'm currently stuck on level 8 myself, it requires for you to get 1.5 million, but the most I've gotten was about 1 million. But, it is still fun though.

Multiplier will be a bitch though. Closest I got was to 35...only half way :(.

Overall though, the game is quite fun to play, and sometimes its just funny how the Swarmites can die.

Interested in playing this, is it worth the price?

I mean, I'll be honest...I only got it on the PlayStation instead of the Xbox because it was 3 dollars cheaper(PS+ Member :D)

But from what I've played, it seems like it could have been $9.99 rather than $14.99. It's fun, but it is repetitive. That's not to say I don't enjoy it though.

If you have an extra 5 bucks laying around, and there's nothing coming out that you want for a while, I'd say go for it! It is fun, especially when I pretend they're all soldiers that have to spread out or stick together and I get to see how my numbers slowly start to dwindle after a while until I come up to the egg sacs for reinforcements!

Ok cool, thanks for the heads up on that! There isn't anything else that I plan on getting right now so maybe I'll go ahead and buy this one, it will hopefully be cheaper still since I'm a PS+ member too.

not much traffic going on in the swarm forums.. anyway got the game.. couldnt resist anymore, and the ps plus discount helped my decision..

anyway game is a lot of fun but really HARD.. ive just beaten stage 4 and it was such a struggle.. on with the first boss.. the swarmites are too cute.. mastering the controls is a must for 100 %

have you worked out a strategy for the 70 x mulitiplier?? i think could be done in level 4 but you have to be lucky and good at the game..

Yep, Level 4 seems to be the best place to get those two trophies. Had a go at it last night but I was too tired to get it just right.

So far I'd say the game is worth the price (especially if you're a PS+ subscriber). I'll be reviewing the game next week (won't mention the site so the message isn't erased... I learn!) and I would definitely recommend a purchase.

mine unlocked like it supposed to.. played till i unlocked level 4, then played the first 3 levels again and voila trophy..

if it doesnt unlock, i guess you could finish getting all trophies but this and then erase game data and retry, first 3 levels are easy anyway..

after having a hard time at first i am really getting the hang of this now, and in some levels im ranked top 20 in the leaderboards(never happened before) just finished level 10.. 1 more level to go and then final boss..

for those that are struggling my advice is to learn the level and try improving on the score each time.. on every level i struggled the first few times and was way short of the points needed but once i knew the levels i had great runs and was surpassing the points total needed by alot..

As a heads up, great places for boosting deaths:

Vaporized is at the start of level 3 since you have a set of 4 "pop-out" plates that destroy your 50 swarmites FAST. 4 minutes and you get your gold death medal.

Implaed can be boosted on level 11 when the last boss pops in at the background and shoots arrows at you. Since it's RIGHT AFTER a checkpoint you can get 1-2 swarmites under cover, get the other 48-49 killed, hit the respawn sackss, repeat twice, and get 100+ per try in about 20 seconds each time.

Trapped can be boosted in Level 5 (I think that's the level but could be wrong) since there's a corridor right after a checkpoint that has pop-out switchbales at the sides AND is filled with 50 traps in the middle so 3-5 minutes gets you the gold medal without a problem.

Ooo ... that 'WAS' quick to get a guide up so soon! Just bought this title myself and reached level 4 but after watching your video I now have a better idea of how to go about that silly multiplier trophy - I kept turning the game off through frustration LOL!!

Thanks for the video .. it helps :)
