Introduction:

Strike Suit Zero didn't enthral me early on with its slow start but by the end and after obtaining some ship upgrades, I was having a blast blowing up enemy ships in this space combat simulator. The story is ok but the primary strength is in the atmosphere and combat.

The year is 2299 and a war is raging in space and you (yes, you!) are going to play a vital role in the battles to come! Take control of a new type of ship as the mysterious A.I "Control" guides you through epic space battles on a mission to save the Earth.

Walkthrough:

Step 1 - Main Campaign

The first thing you'll want to do is to complete the main campaign on Easy. There are no difficulty-related trophies, so keep it on easy to breeze through. Try to complete as many challenges as possible along the way (see Completist for the guide on challenges).

Completing this Step will earn you the following:

  • Transformer (B)
  • Strike Suit Evolved (B)
  • Save Earth (G)

Step 2 - Clean Up Main Campaign Challenges

Use this Step to get any of the challenges you missed in the first Step out of the way to unlock all of the ship upgrades (again, see Completist for the guide on challenges).

Completing this Step will earn you the following:

  • Completist (B)

Step 3 - Clean Up Main Campaign Medals, get Good Ending

In order to get the "Good Ending", you will need to get high scores on every level in the main campaign. See Save Earth's Future for details.

Completing this Step will earn you the following:

  • Save Earth's Future (B)

Step 4 - Heroes of the Fleet Campaign

Simply complete the 5 missions in the Heroes of the Fleet campaign. While doing the 5th and last level, be sure to kill yourself by ramming into the hull of a ship as directed by Control for Obey Control.

Completing this step will earn you the following:

  • Obey Control (B)
  • Exit Simulation (S)

Step 5 - Miscellaneous Cleanup

In this step you will re-visit missions to clean up any of the miscellaneous trophies you may not have gotten in the previous steps. View the individual trophies in the Guide for details.

Completing this step will earn you the following:

  • Shoot The Moon (B)
  • Strike Suit Combo (B)
  • Strike Fast (B)
  • Strike Three (B)
  • Take One For The Team (B)
  • Lucky Strike (B)

Trophy Guide:

Transform into the Strike Suit for the first time.

Story related - Unmissable

This trophy will appear in stage 2, shortly after having received the Strike Suit ship.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1147/d03.jpg Strike Suit Evolved (B)

Unlock an upgrade.

There is an upgrade obtainable in each story mission, of which there are 13 total. This can be unlocked at any time and is for obtaining your first upgrade. See Completist for more info on each individual unlock.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1147/748.jpg Strike Suit Combo (B)

Destroy 5 targets at once in Strike Mode.

Strike mode becomes available in stage 2 and this trophy can be unlocked shortly after you gain access to the Strike Mode's missile systems. You will be ambushed by enemy ships. When you are ambushed, find the cluster of 5(+) enemy ships, hold :r1: then hover over each of the ships in a cluster. This will target multiple enemies, and as long as you hit all of them at roughly the same time, the trophy will unlock. See the video below:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9n2j_k0aqE]Strike Suit Zero - Strike Suit Combo Trophy - YouTube[/ame]

There are a great many opportunities throughout the game to get this trophy and the odds are it will come naturally.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1147/267.jpg Lucky Strike (B)

Destroy a Black Fleet interceptor with rockets.

Interceptors are small attack fighters. The best place to get this trophy is at the very beginning of Mission 10 of the main campaign. When you start the level, a large group of enemies will be headed your way and many of them are Interceptors. Use :square: to find a group of them, then fire your rockets into the group until one dies and the trophy pops.

You will need to equip the "Rocket Pod – BFRPCM Titan" weapon in the Mission Setup screen prior to starting the mission, use those with :r1: for the trophy.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1147/f68.jpg Strike Three (B)

Kill 3 or more targets with a single blast of the Raptor's cannon.

This trophy requires the Raptor ship, which unlocks for certain missions after beating the game. The three targets can be any sort of target and I found it easiest to take out a cluster of turrets on one of the larger ships for the trophy, like so:

http://i.imgur.com/bb5fhp0.jpg

I personally used Mission 3 – Aftermath to unlock the trophy.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1147/055.jpg Shoot The Moon (B)

You can shoot the moon, we're just not telling you how.

This can be obtained easily on the first level. After you have been given access to your ship's missile systems, aim towards the moon in the background and fire some missiles at it. Note that you must use missiles with :r1:, regular fire (:r2:) will not work.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1147/7ea.jpg Strike Fast (B)

Complete the last mission in less than 7 minutes.

This trophy may sound daunting at the offset, but the last level is the simplest level in the game, and is quite short. Simply boost through the cavernous level using :l2: and :r3: the entire time (save for sharp turns) and this will come easily. Once you get to the core at the end, instead of taking the optional route to destroy the Limiters, blow up the core straight away and you'll finish up at around the six minute mark.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1147/643.jpg Save Earth (G)

Reach the end of the game.

Story related – Unmissable

You will earn this trophy upon beating the last level of the main campaign "Mission 13 – Relic".

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1147/993.jpg Save Earth's Future (B)

Get a better ending.

There is some debate on other forums across the web in regards to how to obtain the "Good" ending, but the primary key that I have determined is a combination of score and medals. Some have said on the Steam and Xbox forums that 1.85 million points across all main campaign missions is the way to unlock the trophy. I personally had a 2.2 million point overall score going into the last mission and it did not unlock for me.

Only after completing each mission with at least a gold medal (most missions I had platinum) was I able to unlock the trophy. I had a gold or platinum on every mission save for one, which had a bronze, and I completed the last level without trophy success. I then beat the level on which I had a bronze, upgrading it to a platinum and tried again. This time the trophy popped.

I personally believe that there may be some random element to it, but the key does still seem to be a combination of high score and medals. The best advice I can give is to clear out any levels that don't have at least a gold medal on them, then try beating the last level again.

Unlock everything.

This trophy involves unlocking all upgrades for your ship. Upgrades are tied to challenges and there is one challenge per level in the main campaign, of which there are 13. Some levels unlock multiple upgrades (for 15 total), but there is only one challenge per level.

An important feature of the game for completing these challenges is the focus selector, which you can toggle through to select what your ship should be focussed on. When you hit :circle:, it will target the nearest occurrence of your current target which by default will be set to "Objective". Sometimes you will want it to target "Wreckage" or |Corvettes", for instance. In order to accomplish this, hold :circle: then hit :right: and :left: to toggle through the currently available targets. In the Guide below, when I say to change your target or focus to something, this is what I'm referring to.

The following Guide should help you beat each challenge:

Mission 1 – Before the Storm

Destroy all wreckage in the weapons range

During the first mission, you will be tasked with learning how to use your weapons, by practising on some wreckage. Before you start, set your focus (see above) to "Wreckage". After having set your focus, blow up wreckage until "Wreckage" on your screen goes grey, and hitting :circle: no longer targets wreckage. There will be debris left over but only actual "wreckage" counts. After destroying all the wreckage, finish up the level for your upgrade.

Mission 2 – Outpost

Destroy 2 or more Corvettes

Corvettes are large ships which launch torpedoes (in later levels). Pay attention to the cutscenes, and you will be told that Corvettes have arrived. After the cutscene, set your focus to "Corvettes" and proceed to clean them up. More than two show up in the level, but they are optional to defeat so it's best to destroy the first two that arrive with the rest of the enemies in the first wave.

Mission 3 – Aftermath

Take down all the torpedoes fired at the carrier

This one can be pretty tough, but with some serious focus, it shouldn’t prove too difficult (playing on Easy helps). Throughout the level, there will be Torpedoes shot at the Carrier that you are protecting. Set your focus to Torpedoes, and keep it there for the whole level. As you progress through the level, keep hitting :circle: every so often and keep an eye on the "Torpedoes" at the bottom-left of the screen. When "Torpedoes" is white, that means that there are torpedoes heading towards the carrier (when grey, there are not).

Whenever torpedoes appear, stop what you are doing and focus them down. I suggest using your normal guns :r1: to handle the torpedoes, and save your bombs for Corvettes (the primary source of the torpedoes).

The last phase of the level will have you up against a very large fleet of enemies, with a number of torpedoes (up to 8 at a time) being hurled towards the carrier. This part can seem hectic but remember to focus purely on the torpedoes here. The in-game "A.I" named Control will instruct you to wait a few minutes. This is because something is coming that will clear out the enemy frigates for you so don't bother attacking anything but torpedoes during this last phase.

If a torpedo hits the Carrier, restarting the last checkpoint should reset the counter so you can try again.

Mission 4 – Bait

Save all the allied freighters

This mission is an escort mission, where you must protect 4 Freighters. Simply focus down any enemies that you see and this shouldn’t prove to be too bad. If you get close to losing a Freighter, you can restart the last checkpoint to give the Freighters full health and try again.

Mission 5 – Hit and Run

Save the Auster

Another escort mission. The same rule applies here as in Mission 4. Protect the Auster and when the large enemy ship comes into play, take down its turrets first, as these will be the primary cause for damage to the Auster. Once the turrets are down, take out the rest of the ship's weak spots to destroy it and progress.

Mission 6 – Minefield

Take down 18 of the mines

Pay attention to the cutscenes and wait for the one where they tell you about the mines (early on). Once mines start to appear, set your focus to "Mines" and hit :circle: to see the nearest one. Continue to do this for the remainder of the mission and you should end up with around 22-25 mine kills. Mines in this level are closer to torpedoes as they don't sit still but rather they move towards the ship you're protecting so make sure to focus on them and nothing else.

Mission 7 – Taranto

Kill 10 Fighters with the Bomber

This one is pretty simple, you will be given a bomber for this level and you just have to kill 10 Fighters. That said, there are not very many Fighters in the level, so be sure to get this out of the way as soon as you can. There will be a few clusters of Fighters early on, while your objective is to go and destroy a larger ship. Ignore the main objective and just focus the Fighters then you should be fine.

Mission 8 – Distress Call

Destroy the enemy Cruiser

Another pretty simple challenge. By now you should know how to target the weak points of larger enemy ships, so when you get the chance to take down the Cruiser (once again, pay attention to cutscenes and NPC speech), do so as quickly as possible (lest it escape). If you end up not getting it down the first time through, I suggest coming back later after picking up some more upgrades then that should make this much easier.

Mission 9 – Break In

Complete this mission with the Interceptor

You will have to replay this mission to complete the given challenge, as the Interceptor is not unlocked right away. You can beat the level once then do it again right away but I suggest coming back after you have more upgrades, because the Interceptor is a very weak ship and the last section of the level has you up against a fairly large number of Fighters. It's not hard but can be time consuming, because your Interceptor is still not well upgraded.

Mission 10 – Black Fleet

Ensure the Arcadia takes less than 70% damage

Another escort mission and the same applies as before. If you see the Arcadia taking too much damage then simply restart the checkpoint and it will go back to full health (entirely full, not the amount it had at the beginning of the checkpoint).

Mission 11 – Raid

Complete the mission in 15 minutes

Definitely one of the harder missions to do quickly but if you know ahead of time that you need to be fast, it can certainly help. A well-upgraded ship is a must, as you will be downing a few large ships. I completed this mission in 14:42 on my first attempt while going as quickly as I could.

As you go through the level your primary targets will be the large ships. There will be smaller Fighters and the like, and they will be main objectives, but you can actually ignore them and take out the larger ships to trigger cutscenes. This is KEY to a speed run of the level. Take in a bomber with seeker missiles if you want to get this done on your first run. If you fail to hit the deadline after your first attempt, I suggest coming back after beating the rest of the game and using the Marauder (which is a souped up strike suit with slow movement and heavy damage) and is ideal for large ship destruction.

Mission 12 – Gauntlet

Save the Titan

This is the last escort mission you will have to worry about and fortunately is quite easy. You are tasked with defending a number of ships in this mission, but the Titan is the only one you have to keep safe for the challenge (I personally had another major ship blow up with no negative repercussions).

Mission 13 – Relic

Destroy the Limiters

Destroying the Limiters is a very simple task and the primary objective of the level. There are two ways to finish the level and this is one of them. When you reach the core, you will be given the option to either destroy the core straight away or to take the alternate route (don't worry, it's laid out quite clearly with a way-marker) and destroy the Limiters. Follow the way-marker to the path with the Limiters and follow the instructions given to complete this simple challenge.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1147/ad5.jpg Obey Control (B)

No Win Scenario. Die by ramming into a torpedo or hull of a ship.

This trophy is at the ending of the final bonus mission (Mission 5) of the Heroes of the Fleet campaign. Control will task you with ramming yourself into the hull of a ship, do as instructed and the trophy will pop.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1147/b1d.jpg Exit Simulation (S)

Beat the Heroes Of The Fleet campaign.

Simply beat the Heroes of the Fleet campaign and this trophy will unlock after the 5th mission "No Win Scenario".

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1147/93a.jpg Take One For The Team (B)

Survive a direct torpedo hit in the Marauder.

The Marauder ship will unlock for certain missions after you've beaten the main campaign. Just as the trophy says, you need to survive a direct hit from the now all-too-familiar torpedo projectiles found in many missions. I suggest Missions 8 as the very first group of enemies that you encounter includes an enemy Carrier, which fires torpedoes at the Mercury you are tasked with defending. I found Strike Mode easier to use to navigate into the path of a torpedo.

It's strange as tbh i usually love these type of games ace combat, project sylpheed etc. I think It's the combat that i just don't enjoy. Didn't care much for the story or music either.

I just feel like i'm forcing myself to play it when i do lol. Though i'm glad that the game is out there and that people enjoy it. It is by no means a bad game. Just didn't do it for me.

In the end i enjoyed it a lot more, especially running through the missions with the raptor/marauder and once i had learned how to take down capitals via weak points etc.

I would actually buy a sequel now and feel bad about not giving the game a better chance when i first purchased it. Story is still weak, voice acting is fine. Graphics are fine (as it's effectively an indie title) and art design is great. Gameplay is actually pretty good though the control scheme needs work.

70/100 imo

Mission 3 – Aftermath

Take down all the torpedoes fired at the carrier

This one can be pretty tough, but with some serious focus, it shouldn’t prove too difficult (playing on Easy helps). This bit's doing my fucking head in now. Four runs through the level thinking I'd nailed it and nope, still apparently not. Is there any way of knowing if your carrier's actually been hit by a torpedo?

If I recall correctly, there are health indicators on the screen. Is that not the case?

I recall this being a bit of a pain.

As is often the case when I post to whinge about something, I get it done on my next attempt - shield upgrade unlocked! I can get back to enjoying this awesome little game again :). There was a health bar on-screen for the Arcadia ship yeah, but there's no way of knowing whether a torpedo has chipped away at it, or whether some other fire is responsible.

Great guide by the way Noid :)

Ah right. Well glad to hear you got it! Yeah I believe I mentioned in the guide that this one can be tough. You really do have to give it ALL of your attention.

And thanks! I really enjoyed this game; good to see you're having fun with it. :)

Thanks again for the guide Noid, it was top notch and very useful.

Got my 100% yesterday, I really loved the game! Apart from the bit I posted about before.... :p

Thanks; I'm happy the guide helped, and grats on the 100%!

This is one of those games that when I wrote the guide I felt that it'd get very little use, so it's nice to hear feedback about it. :)
