Overview

-Estimated trophy difficulty: 7/10.

-Offline: 37 ((B)21 ,(S)11 ,(G)4 , (P)1).

-Online: 0.

-Time to Platinum: 20 hours, longer if screwed by the AI.

-Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 2.

-Number of missable trophies: 6: Mission Complete, Veteran, Immune, Samaritan, Phantom Strike and Five-SeveN.

-Glitched trophies: None, but see end of guide for warning.

-Does Difficulty affect trophies: Yes, Veteran & Mission Complete.

Roadmap:

The game has six trophies that require you to complete the game from start to finish in order to unlock them but five can be gotten with one play while the sixth is a non stacking difficulty trophy.

I'd recommend starting your first play on normal and attempt to unlock Immune, Phantom Strike, Samaritan (unlocks Ghosts Don't Die), Five-SeveN and Mission Complete.

Veteran will be much easier if you aren't worried about unlocking trophies making second play much easier. Live on the Edge, Inhouse Medic and One Shot will stop you from earning the missable trophies as these have the opposite requirements so do not attempt until you've cleared the game. Surprise and Boot-Call I wouldn't attempt first time because if you are going for the missable trophies because these two just draw attention to yourself.

Other than these six trophies and the platinum, it's very possible to unlock the other 32 in a single game but I'd suggest 30 and ignore Surprise and Boot-Call as they could get you killed. Your best plan of action is to start the game on normal, go for the missable gold trophies and then clean up the bronze once you beat normal leaving Veteran as the only trophy to unlock. If you miss out on a gold trophy clean up bronze before you start hard and get gold during Veteran.

Unlock all trophies.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/02.jpgVeteran (G)

Complete the game in Hard difficulty.

Difference between normal and hard is pretty much just damage. I'm not sure if the game adjusts how smart the AI is, but there were times when I'd be in the dark and couldn't get behind the enemy for grabs because they'd be following me. Very annoying walking in circles trying to get behind someone who is following you. Main concern, staying out of gun fights especially if you're attempting Five-SeveN.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/03.jpgPhantom Strike (G)

Maintain complete stealth throughout the game.

On screen, you should see an alarm count of 0/1, 0/2 or 0/3 depending on mission. You want to keep your count at 0/* the entire time. If you are seen and get into a fight, doesn't matter. What matters is that alarm count staying at zero. Some enemies will try killing, some will try alerting, so don't take risks.

If you get caught and an alert goes off, you can cancel it out by using Load Game. You can not use Quick Save or Quick Load as it will not work, so manually save your game often and consider using all the saves (Save0 to 3 if I remember correctly) during various stages of the mission. Should you screw up late in mission you have earlier saves to stop you restarting.

To generally avoid alerts switch to laser sight and don't waste time in perfecting the shot or else they will notice the laser pointing at them so kill from behind. At times you may want to rush, you may want to try grinding other trophies, but the best thing to do is leave them for clean up after beating the story. Don't risk getting caught. Don't shoot if anyone is near you. Even silenced weapons make noise so for the most part, use the pistol for silent kills as the SC-20k is louder.

Thanks to KillScreen, CoolDust & PurpleHaze234 for confirming.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/04.jpgSamaritan (G)

Complete the game without dying.

When you die the game will automatically record this death in your save data so even if you load up a previously made save, your death still counts. In order to maximise your chances of clearing the game without dying you should back your save up to a USB drive every time you make some progress.

Play game -> Save game -> Quit game and copy save to USB drive -> Continue game. If you happen to die, Quit game -> Copy save from USB to PS3 -> Continue playing.

The only places I can imagine you'd die is the submarine fight, the escort Ingrid fight and climbing on top of the elevator towards the end of LAX (more of poor animation/design) but the saving to USB method works great for all the Splinter Cell games. In this game, I found that saving to USB was the best way to avoid alarms, deaths and screwing myself over in a huge way should I do something stupid that drains my health (such as falling or getting into a gunfight without it triggering an alarm).

If you decide to back your save data to USB drive to better unlock all gold trophies (especially if you do them at the same time), then I suggest two USB drives. One to be used only for storing saves after you complete/start a mission, and another for storing saves during missions.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/05.jpgImmune (G)

Complete the game without using medkit.

Only trouble should be scripted battles, usually towards the end of missions so not that hard. You'll probably lose health after the submarine, after you go down the elevator in Jerusalem and escorting Ingrid but after these fights, you won't really need health, just take your time and carry on normally.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/06.jpgEmissary (S)

Complete the US Embassy, Dili mission.

Story related and unmissable.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/07.jpgEncephalon Exchange (S)

Complete the Saulnier Cryogenic, Paris mission.

Story related and unmissable. First scripted gun fight here is avoidable. Rush to other side of room beside entrance and three guys will come in expecting a fight. They won't see you, so just sneak past them once all three have entered or moved further into room.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/08.jpgThe Great Train Insertion (S)

Complete the Paris to Nice mission.

Story related and unmissable. Clear in under 15 minutes for an additional trophy. After you've listened in on the call you need to make your way into the final car for roof extraction where a guard will shortly follow you. You can try rushing to the roof or you can wait for him to return and kill him.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/09.jpgShaliah (S)

Complete the Jerusalem mission.

Story related and unmissable. If you allow Dahlia Tal to live she will place snipers in the final area of the mission. Kill her and you get a few cops who you're not allowed to kill. Her life/death triggers two trophies so check out Accomplice towards the bottom of the trophy list.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/10.jpgRefined Communications (S)

Complete the Kundang Camp mission.

Story related and unmissable. Watch for hidden traps in the long grass by using thermal to see them. One guy will kill himself so you know when to start looking. The last one needs to be deactivated, don't jump over it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/11.jpgUnder Metal Cover (S)

Complete the Komodo mission.

Story related and unmissable. Watch out for the hidden laser alarm after you disable the turret. Thermal vision will highlight the beams. Avoid fighting to the submarine by walking out of the moving box/elevator and you'll slide across wires to the platform much faster.

Unavoidable gunfight after you leave the submarine. One guy may rush the stairs so just shock him, the others are camping and can be killed by shooting the drums. Remember to back up your save after the fight, in case the remaining fires kill you when going for the extraction point.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/12.jpgTechnical Difficulties(S)

Complete the Jakarta mission.

Story related and unmissable. When you exit the sewer and are behind the huge satellite dish, turn on thermal vision and look for mines.

Make sure you have a decent amount of health after protecting Ingrid during the unavoidable gun battle after she unlocks the first retinal door. I grabbed Sadono with a tiny bit of health and was shot. It should have registered it as a death but I didn't die. I suspect this caused me to miss Samaritan but it could have been a normal trophy glitch. See bottom of guide for advice.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/13.jpgDuty Calls (S)

Complete the LAX INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT mission.

Story related and unmissable. If going for Five-SeveN keep 3 shockers for the final part, but remember to kill them with the pistol after you shock them or the timer won't stop when you approach bomb.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/14.jpgFive-SeveN (S)

Complete the Game using only the Five-7 and alternate fire of SC-20K gun.

Don't use the primary fire :r1: of the SC-20k and it should unlock. Grenades/Wallmines shouldn't affect this but you won't need to use any ordinance at all.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/15.jpgMission Complete (S)

Complete the game in Normal difficulty.

Difficulty trophies do not stack so you'll need to beat the game on normal.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/16.jpgGhosts don't die (S)

Complete the game without dying more than 3 times.

See Samaritan above. Once you get that trophy, this will automatically pop with it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/17.jpgBoot-Call (B)

Whistle and knock out 50 people.

Using :l2: to whistle in the proximity of enemies will cause them to investigate the sound. While they are investigating, knock them out with :r1:. Not something you want to try while going for no alerts in case multiple enemies pick up on the noise but you can get quick and easy stuns that count towards this by sneaking up on stationary guards and quickly hitting :l2: then :r1: so they hear it, then get knocked out.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/18.jpgAthletic Tendencies (B)

Perform 5 split jumps.

You can get this during mission 1. When you come to the point where you need to do a split jump and then push yourself higher to catch the ledge, do the split jump and then drop down. Continue to do the split jump and dropping until it unlocks.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/19.jpgSleep Overs (B)

Complete a mission without having a single incapacitated enemy being discovered.

You'll get this during the first mission as you should be going for no alerts during the entire game. Just make sure to hide bodies well and you shouldn't have any issues.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/20.jpgExecution (B)

Put down 10 enemies without dying.

This one should be impossible to miss. I got it during mission 4 while killing the enemies underground but it does stack with kills from previous missions so you may get it earlier depending on how many people you find yourself killing during mission 1 and 2. Even if you purposely avoid killing people during the game, you have to kill the terrorists during the LAX mission anyway so will get it by the end of the game (which is even more likely if you're going for 'Samaritan').

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/21.jpgDark instance (B)

Destroy 50 lights.

Simple enough, just shoot out lights. If you're playing on hard and going for Five-SeveN you shouldn't shoot out every light but allow it to come over time while you conserve ammo. If you've beaten the game and still not gotten it, load up mission 2 and just shoot every light you come across. You should have no trouble with this regardless as I got it during mission 2 playing normally.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/22.jpgLive on the Edge (B)

Sound 2 alarms and then complete the mission objective.

This is perhaps best done on Hard difficulty once you've unlocked Veteran trophy. I've noticed that Normal difficulty will give you reset points at during specific points in each mission including towards the end. If you play a mission on hard you should get less reset points. The Paris Cryogenics mission (mission 2) is perhaps the best choice for it as the final reset point (when you enter the Brain room) is removed.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/23.jpgInhouse Medic (B)

Activate 10 Medkits in the game.

If you need health, standing at a medkit you'll give you the option of Restore Part or Restore Full. Using the Restore Part option will allow you to use a single Medkit up to five times and each part counts towards the trophy. You should be able to get this during the second mission as I remember it having three medkits (definitely has at least two). Allow a guard to spot you, drain your health and then kill him before you die. Then sneak through mission until you reach health.

You should not attempt this trophy until you've beaten the game at least once and are using Mission Select to clean up as it will cancel out several gold trophies.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/24.jpgSurprise! (B)

Grab 10 guards as as soon as they switch on the lights.

If you're going for no alerts, I'd probably leave this until you've beaten the game. Mission 2 is a decent place to grind it as you can get 4 grabs in that mission (in the room with the first guard after shooting water pipes, two in the next room and one later with the bright flashing light aimed at the door). The Submarine stage has three potentials (guard at desk, guard inside control room and the technician). The rest can be done with general pissing about. Just turn off a light, camp nearby and when an enemy turns the light back on, grab them. Simple as that, but at times I found myself doing something stupid or the guard didn't act properly.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/25.jpgSafe and Secure (B)

Scout in all 3 vision modes for 13 different doors that can be opened.

Use your scope to look under every door you come across. Assuming you start in normal vision turn on night vision, switch to thermal, then back to normal. It should be possible to get this by looking under the both sides of the same door, then moving to the next door.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/26.jpgNeutral Outlook (B)

Neutralize Norman Soth.

Story related and unmissable as you'll kill him during the final battle.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/27.jpgYou can't see me (B)

Bypass 5 security cameras by jamming them.

You'll easily get this during the second mission. After you've disabled the bomb, you'll come to a set of stairs. At the top of the stairs three guys will be shooting up the place and two will walk off. It's at this point you need to lock pick a door (or use the disposable pick) and access a computer. The room with the computer should have five cameras, one in each corner and one in the middle. Use your Jammer on each camera for a few seconds and the trophy will unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/28.jpgWarranty Period (B)

Save Francois Coldeboeuf.

At the very end of mission 2 you'll find yourself in a roof crawl space after making it through the freezer section (watch out for a wallmine just after you get past the two guards). Below you will see three guards and you need to take them out before they blow down the door leading to Francois.

DeathEater101 has provided an excellent tip. Go through the crawl space and talk to Francois. When finished a timer will appear on screen so climb back into the vent, look for this box on the wall and shoot it. This will cause the guards to become incapacitated thus saving Francois.

When the timer appears on screen you should make a quick save in order to unlock the trophy for letting him die. Under no circumstances must you attempt to shoot the box until you've talked to Francois and the timer is on screen as you'll just get yourself killed.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/29.jpgRecall Rejected (B)

Leave Francois to fend for himself.

Same scenario as saving Francois (above trophy), but when the timer appears on screen do nothing to help him. Climb into the vent and exit on the other side (your original entry point) until the timer goes off so you don't risk being killed by the explosion to come.

For both trophies, saving and letting him die, they should unlock once you exit the vent after the rescue/death and the van pulls up for extraction.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/30.jpgOne Shot... (B)

Take out 10 guards in Sniper mode.

Simple enough. While using the SC-20k press :r3: to enter scope mode, then :l1: to hold your breath. Aim and then shoot an enemy in the head. It doesn't need to be single shot headshots but any kill while using the scope will count but headshots are just easier.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/31.jpgOne kill (B)

Kill 25 enemies with a single headshot, whenever fatality is allowed.

You should get this during your first play. Just sneak close to enemies and use the pistol's laser sight (:l1:, :up:/:down:) to guarantee a single shot kill. The SC-20k scope will work too but this will ruin your chances of getting Five-SeveN during your first playthrough and could alert others to your presence.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/32.jpgFisher Express (B)

Complete the train mission in 15 minutes.

The train mission is fairly straight forward. If you are unable to do it first time around for any reason (avoid alerts, deaths or don't know what to do) then don't worry. You can always leave this until you've beaten the game or during your second difficulty run.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/33.jpgExponential Heat (B)

De-activate 5 turrets.

The five easiest I remember which won't cause you to risk alerts or dying;

1. Mission 1. It's in the courtyard with the spotlights. You can get it before or after you've taken care of the guard with thermals so the choice is yours. Once you've made it across the courtyard and are no longer in the spotlight, turning right you will face a door. Turn left and follow the path to find the turret controls.

2. Mission 2. Once you see the small cutscene with the brains on the floor, it's just ahead (pardon any pun) in the next room. You'll more than likely be using thermal vision in this section so you shouldn't miss it and I believe you need to deactivate it or else it will cut you in half trying to exit the room.

3. Mission 5. This one you can't miss either because you need to go past it in order to reach Sadono's house. You'll eventually come to a guy kicking a boxing bag and have to take the exit behind him which leads to a large garden area. It's across the garden next to the door you need to enter to exit the garden.

4. Mission 6, another one hard to miss as you'll walk past it just before you come to a hidden laser trap inside a building. You'll encounter one guy watching TV and another outside firing his gun. It's outside with the guy firing his gun, next to the entrance that contains the hidden laser trap.

5. Mission 7, when escorting Ingrid. She'll walk out and distract two guards. When they are talking to her, sneak out and disable the turret on your left (watch out for the camera above the door but it shouldn't see you). This turret protects the left side hallway.

If you missed any previous turret, you can disable the right side hallway turret but you'll need to disable the camera and potentially both guards and a third potential guard who patrols the halls, usually appearing after you've disabled the first turret. This is risky and can lead to an alert if you aren't fast enough.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/34.jpgGo FUBAR (B)

Kill all terrorists in the LAX mission.

Unlocks during the final mission. Use thermal vision to find them as you'll notice who they are easily as they appear bright red compared to everyone else. This should be an unmissable story related trophy because at one point (just after the screenshot) during a replay I couldn't open the door to the next area. Lambert told me someone was still alive even though I am 100% sure I killed them all up until that point. So not completely certain you will automatically unlock the trophy but I believe you will.

  • 1. Guard in booth after you get out of the back of the truck, you'll be facing it.
  • 2. Worker in room after the vent. Use first left exit and wait. He'll stand underneath you, so shoot him from above.
  • 3. Room after 2, sitting in the chair under the spotlight. Wait until others walk away then grab.
  • 4. Guy facing the person in the chair, should be lightly coloured clothing on right side.
  • 5. Security guard on the walkway, white shirt on left at top of the steps.
  • 6. After you get clear of the load point, when you open the door it's the security guard in front of you.
  • 7. Another security guard. In the room after the keypad/camera. He'll walk to the door on your left.
  • 8. Final boss, team mate of Soth.
  • 9. Final boss, team mate of Soth.
  • 10. Final boss, Soth

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/35.jpgAmorality (B)

Neutralize Dahlia Tal.

See 'Accomplice' below.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/36.jpgAccomplice (B)

Dahlia Tal survives.

After you follow Tal during the fourth mission, she will have led you to an elevator. Before you enter, create a quick save. Enter the elevator, walk up to her and as you start going down, Lambert will give a kill order. Ignore it and as the elevator continues to go down the trophy will pop.

Use quick load, enter the elevator again and this time follow the kill order. Her death will unlock Amorality plus make what comes next easier (no snipers).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/864/37.jpgBiological Warfare (B)

Retrieve ND133.

Story related and unmissable. Unlocks during fourth mission.

Glitched Trophy Advice: When I first played I went for all four gold trophies but I only got three, I missed Samaritan. I passed this off as a gameplay glitch not a trophy glitch because I clearly remember being shot as I grabbed Sadono in mission 7 but didn't die. I looked past it and decided to play on.

Interestingly enough, Splinter Cell 1 HD has it's own version of Samaritan called 'Urban Legend' but involves less than five deaths (as opposed to this games zero death requirement) which is known to glitch As such, kewlguitarist's excellent Splinter Cell 1 HD guide has useful tips to help avoiding such glitches that people have responded well to.

  1. Start a new game (do not delete saves or install the game again.)
  2. Always use normal saving and reloading (No quick saves.)
  3. Never quit to the XMB via the PS Button IN GAME EVER! After each mission is done and it auto saves on the new mission, "quit to main menu" and then, and ONLY then, quit to the XMB to back up save.
  4. When you're about to die, hit pause and reload save (NOT QUICK RELOAD!)
  5. Remember this game saves in the background
  6. Mission Fails Don't Count
  7. Never resume game. Always load last save.

Credits to FelixFB for originally discovering this.

Special thanks to Visual Walkthroughs. Their screenshots have been of good use to me in writing this guide as they help make things much easier than describing. Their guides help me out a lot in playing this game (as I had forgotten most of it) but if others decide to use their guides as well, I wouldn't recommend their tactics as they aren't trophy friendly.

you'll have to change the trophy icons on your guide to the tiles provided by the site. heres a link for where to find them

they are not all available yet tho.

if you have the platinum and would like to submit the tiles, do it here.

an introduction to the game is always good too.

also, in the section of the guide where you want images like :l2: be sure to use the :colons: at either side, not (brackets)

Will you be adding a roadmap too?

Great guide SaberBlade :applause:

I've already submitted a link to this thread for the staff to see, save and hopefully upload the trophy icons to the site's trophy list.

I'll fix the icons for L2 and such shortly when I rewrite some sections as I was rushed and sorted of dragged on. I'll also be working on a better roadmap today.

Just a quick note:

You don't need to roll back your saves from a usb drive for the Phantom Strike trophy to unlock. If you load a previous save, the save game data file dosen't get flagged.

Rolling back from a usb drive is only required for the samaritan trophy.

Do you -or anyone- know if Phantom Strike just refers to alarms? If a guard sees me but I shoot his face off before an alarm sounds or a guard investigates a noise I make am I still "maintaining complete stealth"?

Thanks for the guide, its great.

For the warranty period trophy you can just shoot the valves on the pipes next to the enemies to gas them out and KO them, instead of using a grenade. ;)

Just finishing off Chaos Theory so I'll look into that and update guide accordingly when I finish.

You still maintain stealth. It has to appear on screen above weapon selection. Keep it 0/1-2-3 and you're fine.

  • 3 weeks later...

I can confirm that loading using the in-game saves does undo the alerts, even when it comes up "Mission Failure" (1 Alert levels) I backed up my save after every level but the only place i died was on Mission 7 rooftop. (Dam those mines!) But i had a ton of alerts in my playthrough and when i got them i pressed :start: and loaded my last save. After completion of the last level 8 trophies popped up! :D

Nice guide. Just one question. What does "Maintain complete stealth throughout the game" for the Phantom Strike trophy mean exactly? I don't believe you said in the guide. Does that mean don't set off any alarms? Don't ever let the guards even see you?

Its just alarms, it doesn't matter if they see you. :) Also if you do get an alert reloading a save will erase them. (The only thing a reload wont erase is the deaths like in SC1.) So you might want to copy your save onto a USB drive/Profile every now and then. Although theres not many places to die on this on Medium difficulty. (I only had one in my first playthrough.) So yeah dont worry about being spotted.

Thanks a lot man. I have Splinter Cell HD Plat so if this is more of the same it should be fine. I'm probably going to start this one in the next day or two and like to be prepared :) The guards just spotting you would be a harsh trophy to get :p.

I've updated the guide to be a bit specific. I was surprised at times being able to get into a fight and they seemed more interested in killing me than setting off an alarm. But it's sort of a grey area, at times they'll fire at you, at times they'll try to cause an alarm, if there is more than one they'll try both at same time.

But it's sort of a grey area, at times they'll fire at you, at times they'll try to cause an alarm, if there is more than one they'll try both at same time.

Yeah the AI in these games is very random to say the least. :D

80% of the time the A.I cant shoot for toffee, there was times i got caught and they shot everywhere but at me... I just need 3 more trophies, i have some questions about one of them though:

Boot-Call - Whats the best mission to farm this? Also can you farm the trophies the same as SC? Like play a mission via mission select then play until the end and play the same level again? The reason i ask is all my stats got wiped when starting my Hard playthrough. I deactivated 4 turrets on my first playthrough but had to do 5 on my Hard run. (Kills were also back to 0, had to 10 sniper kills and 25 headshots.) Maybe worth adding into the guide as everything carried over in SC.

They can be annoying as hell. I once got caught trying to sneak up on a guy who was stuck in an animation glitch (he was going to turn on a light and I'd grab). I thought he's stuck so I'll stun but then the AI got smart and caught me. Wasn't stuck at all.

It's isn't they can't shoot, but more like they can't actually see you so just do wide sprays.

As for Boot-Call, you can farm missions playing the same level over and over, as I did this for Boot-Call and also one or two other bronze. I'd go for the first mission, enemies are spread out, it's not a difficult level, several easy targets to draw out.

I can't really add a note about changing difficult because you said swapping difficulty resets, PurpleHaze234 says they still stack.

It's also my understanding that none of the SC games will carry over stats if you start a new game on a new difficulty. It didn't work for me on SC1 which pissed me off when collecting data sticks and grabbing people. That's why my roadmap says to start on normal and try leaving Veteran as the only single trophy remaining for platinum before you start hard.
