About the Game:

Spider-Man: Edge of Time is an action & adventure game developed by Beenox and its narrative written by acclaimed Marvel writer Peter David. In this Spider-Man installment, players play the roles as both Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099 as both web-slingers must work together to save the world and to prevent the death of Amazing Spider-Man. This game is all about cause and effect moments as the two spideys fight across the span of a century, changing each other’s timelines that will immediately have an effect on the other Spider-Man's future and surrounding environments. Time is ultimately at stake in this thrilling packed adventure of race against time!

Playthrough 1: Normal Difficulty

Story Mode:

When you begin your journey to platinum this game, you'll immediately be in control of Amazing Spider-Man who's fighting Anti-Venom. Ultimately, Amazing Spider-Man will be killed by Anti-Venom. Regardless of the opening fighting events you'll want to immediately verify that your game is on Normal Difficulty by pressing the :start: button and scrolling over to "Options" and selecting "Difficulty". Your game should automatically be on Normal difficulty when you first start the game. The reason that you want to do this is because Normal difficulty is needed to unlock Hard difficulty, plus the Normal Difficulty playthrough is the only difficulty that will enable players to achieve some of the "Web Of Challenges" while playing. This will reduce some of your work needed to be done for some of the challenges after you've completed the game.

The first playthrough of the game is where you'll be unlocking the vast majority of almost all the trophies. The storyline is linear and you should have no real problems completing the game for the first time on Normal. You'll be switching sessions from present and the future between both Spider-Mans. In fact, all the gameplay will be similar from fighting robots to fighting mutants, as you repeatedly repeat the same button mashing moves over and over again to defeat them. You'll also be doing the same things in the environments over and over from saving the other Spider-Man's life, to button mashing for security keys, to destroying a power cell generator, to speed web-swinging past a locked security door. Gameplay wise, the story mode should take you no more than an average of 8-10 hours to complete.

In the story mode you'll encounter Golden Spiders as well as Web of Challenges. Golden Spiders are hidden in the environment and there are a total of 92 Golden Spiders for you to obtain in the story mode. Thankfully the Spider Tracker blinks yellow when you're near one of the Golden Spiders locations. Other Golden Spiders are earned through combat. When the Spider Tracker blinks red, then it means that the current fight you're in will reward you with a Golden Spider just by simply defeating every enemy in the fight, so I advise you to defeat every enemy you encounter or face while you're playing through the story mode for the first time. This will net you all the Golden Spiders earned through combat only. As for the hidden Golden Spiders, I advise you to use the Golden Spider Locations in order to collect them all as you're playing. Don't worry about missing a Golden Spider because once you've completed the game once, Chapter Select will be unlocked and it'll show you what chapters you're missing a Golden Spider on.

In addition, during this playthrough there are a few things you should take note of. While playing through the game, you should focus on collecting all collectible items found throughout the environment. Below is a short briefing of things that you should keep in mind:

Special Items:

  • Throughout the environment you'll find special items along the way that both Spider-Mans can gather and collect for upgrading combat abilities, etc.
    • Portal Energy is used to buy and upgrade combat abilities.
    • Healing Energy replenishes health.
    • Golden Spiders are for upgrading Health, Shield and Stamina.

Golden Spiders:

  • Golden Spiders can be found while exploring your surroundings, after you defeat groups of enemies in specific locations or when you’ve earned a gold medal in the Web of Challenges. When you are near a Golden Spider hidden in the environment a tracker will start blinking. The closer Spider-Man gets, the faster it goes.

Web of Challenges:

  • Here, you can keep track of the numerous challenges the Spider-Mans can complete to unlock rewards such as Alternative Suits keys and Concept Art. They also earn you Portal Energy and Golden Spiders. As you play more challenges will become available. There are essentially two types of challenges:
    • Combat challenges test each Spider-Man’s abilities to efficiently defeat his enemies.
    • Obstacle challenges test each Spider-Man’s ability to be agile in navigating through spaces.

Spider-Sense:

  • Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099 can use Spider-Sense to detect Enemies through structures or identify those holding Security Keys and know by instinct the way to its next Objective.

Upgrades:

  • Here you can buy upgrades using the Portal Energy and Golden Spiders found while exploring, earned through combat or completing challenges.
Upgrades unlock or enhance special abilities and combat moves for each Spider-Man or both of them.

Newspapers:

  • Newspapers are automatically gained throughout the adventure, and articles are collected as effects to the timeline are caused.

Playthrough 2: Hard Difficulty

Things to Do:

Once you've completed the game for the first time. It's time you complete all the chapters on hard difficulty. I strongly suggest that you go into "Options" and select "Difficulty" and change your settings from Normal to Hard and then press the :cross: button to confirm the difficulty change. Now exit out of "Options" and scroll over to "Chapter Select" and take note of all the chapters that you're missing a Golden Spider on. You'll want your hard difficulty to actually be a speed-run as well as a cleanup playthrough. This will save you more time instead of having to repeatedly go back and use chapter select to revisit levels for a particular Golden Spider.

Story Mode:

Once you've completed the game on Normal, go into "Options" and select "Difficulty" and change your settings from Normal to Hard and then press the :cross: button to ensure that you unlock the Master Of All You Survey (S) trophy on this playthrough. The only real difference in hard difficulty is that enemies are tougher and there are no collectables (orb fragments and no health orbs). Plus, you won’t be able to complete any challenges in this mode. Since you're now familiar to the game, this playthrough will be a breeze and you'll be flying through it much faster than your first playthrough because you'll carry over all your current upgraded special abilities and combat moves for each Spider-Man. In fact, this time you can speed-run through it all by going only for the objects, such as killing the enemies with the security keys and simply ignoring everyone else so you can leave the area through the locked security door. Remember to continue collecting any Golden Spiders that you missed during your previous playthrough. This will eliminate having to do a cleanup. If you're having a difficult time with Master Of All You Survey, then please refer to its trophy description in the guide. All in all, you'll complete your hard difficulty playthrough in about 7-8 hours.

Web of Challenges: Obtain All Gold Medals

Now that you've gone through the game twice, you'll be very experienced in terms of your combat and web-swinging skills. By this point in the game you should have all Combat Upgrades and a decent amount of Character Upgrades since the Web of Challenges has the last remaining amount of Golden Spiders that will fully max out the rest of your Spider-Man's upgrades. This is perhaps the hardest part for obtaining your platinum. The Web of Challenges requires you to have skill, accuracy, and patience. Thankfully, hard mode should have beefed you up if you flew through it like a speed-run as mentioned previously in Playthrough 2: Hard Difficulty.

You can find the Web of Challenges listed in the game's main menu screen. Difficulty won't have any effect on your challenges if you select it from the main menu screen. Difficulty only had an effect on the challenges during the story mode, so changing the difficulty on easy or anything else won't help you here. There are a total of 68 challenges for you to complete and if you were lucky enough to complete some of them during your Normal Difficulty playthrough, then maybe you eliminated about 5-10 challenges already for this step. Essentially, there are only two types of challenges of Combat Based and Obstacle Based. One will basically test your Spider-Man's abilities to defeat enemies and the other is basically testing your abilities to navigate the environment. All challenges can be done in any order you wish, but it's best to keep replaying and trying the same one you failed over again. Why? It's because you'll end up memorizing the proper paths to take to get all the orbs or you'll end up learning how to freefall without getting hit at all thanks to trial and error. So keep at it and trust me that these challenges will come off naturally easy just by failing and retrying them again. Remember that patience is "KEY" here in order to be successful.

That pretty much sums this step up. It's all self-explanatory and the game even gives you the proper tips to complete the challenges. Completing this step is necessary for unlocking all the Character upgrades, Alternate Suits, and Golden Spiders. Below is just a listing of trophies that you'll unlock:

  • Gorgeous Gold Grabber
    (B)
  • Mighty Medal Master
    (S)
  • Consumate Completist
    (G)
  • Spider Snagger Supreme
    (G)
  • Gold Standard
    (B)
  • Super-Suited Swinger
    (B)

Clean Up:

Potentially this step isn't needed but if you're missing any trophies after both your playthroughs, then please check the guide for them and go finish and complete the trophies.

06.jpg  Master Of All You Survey (S)

Complete all chapters on Hard

Hard difficulty is only unlocked after completing the game on Normal difficulty. In Hard mode, enemies are tougher and there are no collectables such as orb fragments and no health orbs. In addition, challenges aren't achievable during this playthrough. There's really nothing to fear about hard difficulty since you'll be able to carry over all your current upgraded abilities, and other collectibles. Plus, if you have an Alternate Suit unlocked from either the bonus gallery or as a DLC that gives you a bonus to status like increased health or increased damage, then feel free to use them for they will also make this difficulty even easier. The last thing to take note of is that you don't have to fight everyone this time. You can simply kill the enemy with the security key to unlock the security doors and continue advancing the story mode.

Some Tips:

  • Web Shots immobilizes enemies rendering them temporarily unable to fight
  • Hyper-Sense and Accelerated Decoy are the two best special abilities in the game
  • You can spam Hyper-Sense and Accelerated Decoy by disabling the ability when you used it.
  • The Stamina Bar automatically regenerates after being depleted and enables the Spider-Mans to use special combat techniques when the stamina bar enters an Overdrive mode
  • No need to fight every enemy in the game. Simply kill the necessary enemies and speed through time locked doors and areas etc
  • Time Paradox is extremely powerful and can freeze enemies in time as well as allowing one-hit kills on current enemies caught in it
  • The Health Bar regenerates by defeating enemies as well as regenerating over time
  • Web Jumping away from enemies while fighting is a good way to regain time for your stamina to regenerate and is also a good way to regenerate lost health by using it to avoid enemy's attacks

Defeat 100 enemies

Defeat 500 enemies

You’ll unlock this naturally while playing through the game. There are well over 500+ enemies and you shouldn't be avoiding them at all. Defeat every enemy you encounter or come across.

Execute a 200-hit combo

This isn't as difficult as it may sound. For this trophy you must execute a 200-hit combo. There are only two opportunities that will enable you to execute a 200-hit combo within the game. The first chapter that you can do a 200-hit combo on is at the end of Chapter 12: The Imperfect Storm, when you're uploading the data modules, you'll be attacked by an army of Mutants. While the data is being uploaded, fight off the Mutants by simply button smashing the :square: button and keep spamming the Accelerated Decoy to avoid getting hit as you continue to build up your hit combo meter. Getting hit once will reset your hit combo meter back down to zero.

The second chapter that you can do a 200-hit combo on is at the end of Chapter 14: Nowhere to Run. Once you completed the Freefall section, you'll once again be attacked by an army of Mutants. Simply spam the :square: button and the Accelerated Decoy to build up a 200-hit combo without getting hit. If you're going for the 200-hit combo trophy on this chapter, you'll have to be very fast and quick for the chapter will eventually end as you switch sessions with Amazing Spider-Man.

See Collector Detector for more information.

42.jpg  Excellent Emblem Enthusiast (S)

Collect 1000 Orb Fragments

See Collector Detector for more information.

43.jpg  Collector Detector (S)

Collect 2000 Orb Fragments

Throughout the environment you'll find orb fragments that are known as Portal Energy, which both the Spider-Mans can collect. Portal Energy is used to buy and upgrade combat abilities. There's well over 2000+ orb fragments in the game, so collect every orb fragment as you come across them. I'd like to remind you that this must be done on Normal Difficulty. The reason that this trophy must be done on Normal Difficulty is because Hard Difficulty doesn't allow you to collect any collectibles such as Portal Energy or Health Energy (excluding the Golden Spiders which can still be collected on Hard).

44.jpg  Survivor Supreme (B)

Complete Session 3 or later without dying

For this trophy you must complete 3 sessions or later sessions without dying. It may sound confusing at first, but this trophy is simply saying you can not die at all when you switch between the Spider-Mans. This trophy will most likely come to you naturally without even trying or knowing what you even did to unlock this trophy. If you're having trouble unlocking this trophy, you can simply speed through many enemies, only defeating the ones with the keys etc as well as spamming the Hyper-Sense and the Decoy abilities. It's also much easier to do this after you have a fully upgraded health meter and maxed regeneration. Best chapter to start this trophy is on Chapter 3: Wild Cards as you won't encounter any Freefalls when switching sessions.

46.jpg  Jack Of All Attacks (B)

Perform 3 of each type of Grab Attack on enemies

This trophy is somewhat misleading, but all three grabbing attack moves must simply be performed at least 3 times on enemies as both Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099. They can be done on either the same or different enemies. Below is the list of Grab Attacks that must be purchased from the Shared upgrades from the Upgrades menu, although you already have a default one unlocked:

  1. Grab: Knockback
    • :r1: + :square:

[*]Grab: Air Launcher

  • :r1: + :triangle:

[*]Grab: Ground Slam

  • :r1: + :circle:

Once you've performed each Grab Attack at least 3 times each on enemies, you'll unlock the trophy.

47.jpg  Airborne Assailer (B)

Perform 3 of each Air Attack on enemies

This trophy is somewhat misleading, but all three aerial attack moves must simply be performed at least 3 times on enemies as both Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099. They can be done on either the same or different enemies. If you're having trouble getting an enemy into the air, then simply use the Grab: Air Launcher :r1: + :triangle: to solve that problem. Below is the list of Air Attacks that must be purchased from the Shared upgrades from the Upgrades menu:

  1. Aerial Downward Punch
    • In Air: [hold] :square:

[*]Aerial Knock Away

  • In Air: [press] :triangle:

[*]Aerial Ground Slam

  • In Air: [press] :circle:

Once you've performed each Air Attack at least 3 times each on enemies, you'll unlock the trophy.

48.jpg  Hammer Slammer (B)

Damage enemies with Roundhouse Spin and Web Hammer 10 times each

For this trophy you must purchase the upgrades Roundhouse Spin (Spider-Man 2099) and Web Hammer (Amazing Spider-Man) from the Upgrades menu. Both moves are performed by simply using [hold] + :square:. This trophy is cumulative and all you have to do is simply damage enemies with these moves 10 times each. They can be done on different enemies you’re fighting and not the same ones. Once you've damaged enemies with Roundhouse Spin and Web Hammer 10 times each, you'll unlock the trophy.

07.jpg Anti-Venom Vanquisher (H)(B)

Defeat Anti-Venom on any difficulty level

Story related and cannot be missed. Anti-Venom is the first boss fight in the game. This fight will actually take place in multiple stages where you'll have to switch between the two Spider-Mans.

Spoiler

First showdown as Amazing Spider-Man:

Phase 1: During this phase, you'll be fighting Anti-Venom like you would against any other enemy. All his attacks can easily be dodged with the Hyper Sense ability. Simply continue attacking and dodging him until he self heals himself back to 100%. Repeat the same attacking and dodging method as before until you're prompted to press the :circle: button. Chase after him in to the next area to search for him.

Phase 2: Anti-Venom will negate Amazing Spider-Man's powers so no more Hyper Sense ability to dodge his attacks here. Still, simply continue to attack him and dodge his attacks by web jumping out of the way. Eventually, after you take about 40% of his health meter down, Amazing Spider-Man will attempt to reason with Eddie. During this reasoning attempt you'll have to press the :cross: button to dodge his attacks and continue to do so whenever it's prompted to be pressed.

Final Showdown as Spider-Man 2099:

Phase 1: As Spider-Man 2099 nothing really changes here. The only real change is Anti-Venom has a few more attacks up his sleeves now. Simply continue to attack him and dodge his attacks with the Accelerated Decoy and press the prompted :circle: button whenever it appears.

Phase 2: After removing some of his chips, the scene will change into another area and Amazing Spider-Man will be attacked by Mutants in the other world. Simply stand in front of a mutant pod and then use the Accelerated Decoy to have Anti-Venom destroy the pods.

Phase 3: This is the final phase of the long battle and nothing has changed here. Simply continue to attack him and dodge his attacks and remove his last chip for the trophy to unlock.

08.jpg  Fabulous Feline Fury (H)(B)

Defeat Black Cat on any difficulty level

Story related and cannot be missed. black Cat is the second boss fight in the game. Although you'll fight her early on as Amazing Spider-Man, you won't actually face her in a serious fight until you're in the Hydroponic Jungle again.

Spoiler

Black Cat is very easy to defeat with the over spamming use of Hyper Sense. Also this entire fight is completely open to freedom, to move around or to run away. If you get hurt badly while fighting her, then simply swing away towards another platform as she'll never chase or go after you. Take advantage of this to regenerate your lost health before returning to face her again. With that being said, this battle will take place in 3 different phases.

Phase 1: After chasing Black cat a number of times in the Hydroponic Jungle, she'll eventually be on a platform with clones of herself. It's best to ignore the clones and simply focus on the real Black Cat herself. Only defeat the clones if they're in your way. Nothing has really changed much from your first encounter with her but she'll be using projectiles more often than before and will end most of her attacks with a charged attack which can easily be dodged by simply using Hyper Sense or web jumping out of the way.

Phase 2: Is the exact same phase as phase 1. The only real difference is that she now has 1 more extra clone than before. Simply repeat the same method you used in Phase 1.

Phase 3: Once again, nothing changed at all here. The only real difference is that she now has 2 more clones and Black Cat will spam her projectile attack more often here. In other words, repeat the same method over again.

09.jpg  Monster Master Maximus (H)(B)

Defeat Atrocity on any difficulty level

Story related and cannot be missed. During this fight you'll be alternating between both Spider-Mans and Amazing Spider-Man faces off against Atrocity and Spider-Man 2099 goes against the CEO.

Spoiler

Phase 1: When the fight begins, simply use web shots by pressing the :circle: button to shoot at the tentacles from a distance. Once you have all tentacles shut closed, the Atrocity will slam the ground and electrical pillars will come out of the ground. Web swing onto the pillar and wait for the Atrocity's tentacles to come and attack you on it. Use your Hyper Sense ability to avoid getting hit and jump off the pole and the Atrocity will get stunned on that electrical pillar. Repeat this again on the 2nd electrical pillar. Once you have done that, your free to attack him with your attacks, so pound away on him until he regains his stance. Simply repeat the same method over again against him until you're prompted to press the :circle: button against him to remove his tentacle.

Phase 2: During this phase of the battle, the room is now filled with plasma energy. When using your web shots against the Atrocity, use the web jump to jump out of the plasma energy to avoid taking major damage from its effects and simply repeat the same method as before. Remember to continue to use the web jumping to avoid getting hurt from the plasma. After stunning the Atrocity and attacking him to remove the final tentacles you'll switch Spider-Mans.

Phase 3: During this final phase, all you have to do is simply knock the Atrocity into the portal. this should be no problem for you. After doing so, you'll unlock the trophy.

10.jpg  Boss Of Bosses (H)(B)

Defeat the CEO on any difficulty level

Story related and cannot be missed. During this fight you'll be alternating between both Spider-Mans and Amazing Spider-Man faces off against Atrocity and Spider-Man 2099 goes against the CEO.

Spoiler

Phase 1:The fight against the CEO is actually very easy. All of his attacks are very easy to dodge with the Accelerated Decoy ability. During the fight you'll notice portals on the ground on the battlefield, so simply stand on them and wait for the CEO to attack you with a slam attack. Simply use the Accelerated Decoy to evade the attack and the CEO will get hit by the Atrocity's tentacles from the white portal on the ground. This enables you to attack him, so pound away until he gets back up and repeat this over again.

Phase 2: During this phase of the battle, the Atrocity's tentacles will now be pillars out of the ground so web swing over to one and use a decoy next to a tentacle to have the CEO run over and attack it. When the CEO is attacking the decoy next to the tentacle, simply use the web shot with :circle: to hit the tentacle and the tentacle will stun the CEO. This enables you to attack him once again, so pound away until he gets back up. Repeat this over again.

Phase 3:During this phase simply continue to dodge his attacks and eventually he'll jump onto the portal. While he's on the portal he'll prepare to fire a cannon beam energy attack at you. Simply use the Accelerated Decoy to dodge the attack and use the web shots to knock him down off the portal. Now simply pound away once again until he gets back up. Repeat this same method over again. Eventually you'll defeat him to complete the game as well as unlocking your trophy.

For the perform all 3 x attacks, you might want to add that you have to do this for both Amazing Spiderman and 2099.

Otherwise great job on the guide, looks great!

I got both trophies with only 2099 while using chapter select. I know one of them was temperamental and I had to do the R1+Triangle move a couple more times before it unlocked.

It was the same for me. Once I had the final grab move and I spam the moves on the mutants until it unlocked while playing as Spider-Man 2099.

The Consumate Completist part of the guide is not even a guide, just copy and pasted what the game tells you you need do. Useless as is.

Explaining good routes for orb colleting and such would have been a guide.

It self-explanatory, plus no human being can explain where to go or what abilities you'll need to use to complete them. A video guide would be better but at the time this guide was written there was none and I'm not going to type one up either because that is useless. All people need to know are the objectives.
